Force RIM Annoyances - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

After updating to 2.2, some random changes were made to the ROM and they weren't listed in the changeling, or else I wouldn't have flashed. The device seems to have changed the status bar icons to be low-resolution, hideous green icons. How can I replace them with the original, stock Images?

Well for starters, your post comes off like you have a bone to pick...so maybe a little appreciation for the dev of that ROM and every other ROM for that matter as they put a lot of their own personal time into putting these ROMs together for very little in return.
In the end I'd say if you don't like it, then flash a nand to go back to a previous version. If you went smart enough to make a nand...Well you prob shouldn't be flashing ROMs then.

Maybe if you actually read the thread, you would see that he actually did mention it in the changelog.
AND, if you read a little bit more, you would see he posted a zip to revert back to the original look.
Maybe before you start bashing a developer and making complaints, you do some reading yourself and figure it out. Scratch that, you shouldn't even be bashing any developer or making any "complaints", the developers don't owe you anything and they're providing content for free for the public, if you don't like don't use it.

Message to all HD2/Android Devs

Congrats to all of the very talented devs out there who are making these mind blowing Android builds.
Now I only ask for one thing, a custom bootscreen to tell them apart!
I like to try all of the different android builds out there, but sometimes I boot into them and I cant remember which one I just booted.
Why not each dev just come up with their own Custom bootscreen, Kind of like cyanogen mod. Or it could be more simple like showing the build and developers info on a splash screen.
Not only would it give them the credit they deserve, but it would help big time in telling them apart.
So how about it devs? Custom boot screen?
So you want different splash screens just because you think 1+1=3
Ok wiseguy,
How about just to give them the credit they deserve when your booting into their custom operating system.
Two thoughts here :
(1) To help them, why dont you or someone else design the splash screens for them
(2) To credit them, donate or help them in their threads as much as you can answering to people who have queries for which you know the answer to.
I am not being sarcastic here. Since I myself am a WM Chef so I know the time and trouble that goes along in cooking. Trust me its not pretty for someone who has family, life, school, office, kids, college, .... you get the point
If you can't remember what ROM your booting then rename the folder to the name of the build and alter the startup.text to go with the changes. I have never once booted into a build accidentally.
You can also change the boot animation yourself very easily.
I have an idea for the different boot screens, why don't you buy a different hd2 for each of your boots, so you will surely know witch is witch.......

No need to be so evil..guy just gave an idea...
I have another great idea, why dont you buy multiple sd cards and label them to know which is which.
Even better, if you need a reminder of what you using, you can also use a background image that reflects the build, or even use a text widget for main, or secondary screens!

Comon guys, the idea isn't so bad....
Imagine how elegant it would look like if for example, Darkstone had a logo wich is shown while android is loading...or some cool backgroudnd image is shown, or a widget with direct donate option....
I have Photoshop experience...can do it for someone
Thanks to everyone thats supporting the idea. To wise crackers, I can only wish SOD on all of you.
Geez, an Idea just happens to pop up on the forums, and just because you cant say "USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION!!" your all upset. Get over it.
If you dont have time to do it, then fine.
But thats the idea - just like CyanogenMod, he has a custom bootscreen. Why not have the same for each android build.
A lot of builds - both Android and WM - use custom boot animations. Why jump down this guy's throat for suggesting it? Its not like its outlandish.
(note - I don't like custom boot screens and would prefer they not use his suggestion. I just don't understand the need to attack him for it.)
Hey what do you know? One of the builds i'm using almost exclusively just decided to give himself a custom bootscreen...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=820696&page=37
Nope, I just wont believe this thread had anything to do with it.
Thank you cmylxgo!
Yay for Custom boot animations
I Love the idea bud!! Yeah custom boot animations would be sick!

I'm sure those with grumpy responses must have forgot you started off with praise for the hard work of devs. Never mind.
I do have several roms on my SD card. What I presently do is change the name of the folder named Android to the name of the Rom, then edit the startup textfile path line to reflect the name of the rom instead of the Android path. When I start windows, from file explorer I go to the particular rom folder I want to use. Im sure someone will come up with a bootloader app reflecting your idea some time or later.

Bootloaders will recognize it. As long as the word android is in there. Like for coredroid, mine is labeled as AndroidCoreDroid

Ya know whats interesting about that though, we need to remember that although some of the devs can hack and mod their phones - that doesn't mean they have a great eye for art.
I've seen some greatly skinned HD2 builds out there, and others have been - well - a bit ugly.
But - If there is someone out out there with some serious artistic skills and can use Photoshop and whatever other booting animation programs to come up with some sick bootscreen animations for the developers - that would be awesome.
Kinda like everyone knows of certain developers only for Kernels, and others for wrappers, how about someone that designs sick bootscreens?!?
That could be you!
Guys please it's not your it's you're...

Update regarding ultimate rom

Ok so I got about 4 pages of hate from loads of trolls gathering on one thread just because I forgot to add credits which I know is something unacceptable but still after adding them I still got hate (i think their blind as well), so I removed the rom forgetting some people really liked it and want it. After removing I got 4 PMS to bring the rom back so I will start a new thread tomorrow morning for the rom, trolls not allowed

There was no hate, you used the work of minimum 10 people, who spent a lot of time in things "your rom" is based on. Maybe you should read your posts again and rethink. You are full of anger at the moment, please calm down and accept your fault. Yes, you spent time by yourself. But if everybody behaves like you at the moment, we can carry xda to it's grave. Consider that.
And finally, keep working, keep learning, keep mention other devs.
It wasn't about trolls&hate.. it was about you wanting credit for making a nice rom but not giving any credit to the people who facilitated what you made.
Doc's rom wasn't just something that just magically appeared through thin air, it took him time and effort, same with hardcore's kernel, sztupy's ultk, supercurio's colour and brightness fix, tayutama's extended menu.. and whoever else you 'borrowed' stuff from.
Next time i hope you are clear about what you have done i.e. themed doc's rom and added some stuff (be specific). The good thing about Doc's rom is that he makes it so it's highly customisable, nice and clean, so people can add what they want.
I can understand that you thought it was good to make it easier for people to use your themes, no one can fault you for that. I think it would have been better for you to make your changes to a stock rom and then learn about all the changes that those other guys made and add them bit by bit much in the same way as other roms developed.. but you took the easy way and borrowed their work without asking if you could or even crediting them for their hard work.
I guess you will know better next time.

Agreed.
All everyone is saying is that you should have credited the devs who created the main stuff, cause i looked at your thread and i know you mean good for the community, but it looked like a mashup of Axura's ROM with others on the board.
Just mention names next time, non of this emotional XDA stuff will happen
Hi. Downloaded ultimate rom. really like it, but I am having one problem. The accelerometer is off. Left tilt is down, down tilt is left. Really messing up my games, and the screen rotate is frustrating. Tried searching, but couldn't find anything. Am I missing something?
Edit: I an also unable to get any games or videos and music to play sounds....
Okay. Got it figured out. Dl'd the captivate ported version. Works great now.

[ROM Q] What is the latest or best (in your opinion) MIUI Rom for the EVO?

Just as the Title asks. I've looked but some threads are really old. So what do you guys think?
Also, what is THIS lock screen!? It's awesome and I love it!!!!!
Thanks in advanced guys and gals!!! Another thing i was looking for was those backgrounds with those sexy girls wearing headphones and it looks all artsy and ****. cant find the plain backgrounds anywhere....
Well the most important thing to know: a new build gets released every Friday form the Chinese team, then a English team ports it to EVO usually over the weekend for a weekend release. So every week there's a new build.
Latest _English_Port_ is 1.14 ... but 1.21 just got released today (revs are by date) BUT the Chinese team found a bug and is supposed to be releasing a patch tomorrow. The MIUI team responsible for porting the weekly builds apparently already ported the 1.21 but isn't posting it as a official build yet as they are waiting to see what the original dev team is releasing as a patch first.
I would say the current 1.14 is easily the most stable build, the new 1.21 coming out has some UI changes, so it could actually introduce bugs, but only time will tell. Honestly though MIUI has come a long long way.
I really like MIUI rom but not having multitouch on the gingerbread keyboard kills it for me. Hopefully they can get it working soon.

This 1.7 seemed to run the best for me with the included kernel 1.14 had a lot of reboots. I loved the UI and the built in extras like the traffic monitor and the blacklist options but found it too unstable for me. I went to evervolv 2.3a15 and love it so far. Gps doesnt track as well as miui but its an apples oranges comparison. Basically if you can get a stable daily driver miui going on your evo then enjoy olit. The thread in the general section has a lot of believers for sure.
so far 1.14 has been the most stable for me, but myself and many others have been experiencing a problem where whoever we are talking to hears an echo of their voice. The devs are gonna try to work that out for the next build which should be awesome. I'd wait till the final of 1.21 is released.

Okay, so after looking over MIUI and the themes and lockscreen mods I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY RREEAALLLLYY WANT IT!!!!!
But...there's just one problem...
After looking over the directions, and the HBOOT S-OFF thing, nothing seems certain. So many different sites and threads say that some this way doesn't work, this way breaks your 4G, and I can not for the life of my find out how to simply just get MIUI on my flipping Evo! To be honest, from everything I've looked up so far it looks like a ****ing death trap. No joke.
And whats up with partial English? From what I've seen things look like they're in English. How much is still in Chinese?
Is there anyone out there that can show me (or tell me) a very direct way and not an "iffy" way of flashing MIUI. I have Clockwork and I don't know how to check to see if I have S-OFF. I got my Evo 4G the day it came out, so does that mean the way I rooted it back then turned S-OFF for me?
I thought S-OFF was only for people who got the new OTAs and couldn't root their Evos.
I'm sorry but MIUI ust confused the HELL out of me and I'm so willing to take a leap of faith because I want it so bad, but bricking or messing up my Evo ust isnt worth it. Help anyone?
My whole ROM is in english. I'm using the current stable release and it's the best ROM I've used after UD.
The one thing I noticed is that my 3G speeds seem to be slower. I'm on wifi a lot so it isn't too big if a deal but still annoying.

Well, if you have flashed a custom recovery(Clockwork), then I think you must have s-off. The easiest way to check your s-off status is to turn your phone off, then reboot by holding down power+volume-down. The phone will boot into the h-boot screen. At the top will be several pieces of info including your s-off or s-on status. Make sure you do not have any custom roms or other .zip files in the main directory on your sd card before you do this as the hboot will try to flash it when it detects it.
The very first post in the general forum has a lot of really good info as well. Another excellent helpful resource is the IRC channel for the Evo. The link is in the post.
S-off just means security off, by the way. You can't flash custom roms or other stuff until you have s-off.

Wow. That cleared up quite a bit! I'm pretty sure I have a few custom ROMs in the main directory of my SD but when I flashed HBOOT it didn't automatically do/flash anything. I checked and I had S-OFF, I guess it was obvious.
So MIUIs flash ust lke any other ROM...?
comment to ur comment earlier- the most up-to-date "stable" rom is always going to be the that they have stickied.

yes they just flash like a normal rom. But since they do release an update almost weekly, it would be hard to do a complete wipe everytime and titatium back up everything. so miui already has a Miui Backup program in it that will make changing to the next release go smoothly without much of a hassle.
I flashed the MIUI ROM last night and my phone rebooted on its own like a handful of times when I was sleeping. I kept hearing the vibrate sound and seeing the white "HTC EVO 4G" screen like when you first turn on the phone. NOT happy!!
I had the same thing happen to me I love the rom but that's why I went back to my warm rom

ROM/acer questions (a500 noob)

My sister has informed me I will be getting an a500 for Christmas. This will affect Since then I've been rescearching and learning everything I can about it. I know I will want it rooted, and stripped of all bloatware, but there's something I've heard mention of I can't seem to get a real answer to.
What's the difference between AOSP honeycomb and whatever acer's done to it? I know there are modifications, I just don't know what. This will affect what ROM I use, or if I use one (though that'll also be influenced by stability of ROMs - unless there's a super stable 3.2 I'll probably just stay rooted stock, unless there's something better than stock out there. I'd appriciate ROM suggestions.
Also, how do I go back to stock once I ROM? Haven't seen a clear answer to that either. Probably easy, but there are no ROMs available for my phone so that's not something I have much (if any) experience with.
In laymans terms, AOSP is just the basic android code before the manufactures get hold of it. By agreement, they have to release the code to the community.
Sometimes it's good, sometimes not so good. Depends. The good thing, is that it's pretty much free of anything the manufacturers may add to it.
The bad thing, is that sometimes the device drivers might not be so refined. It just depends on how "smart" the devs are that put together a rom.
But, the good thing, is that we have a choice to run whatever we want.
Acer hasn't done much to Honeycomb it is pretty vanilla so you already are running an AOSP version of Honeycomb. There is none of the heavy overlays like HTC Sense, Motorola's, or Samsungs overlays. Its easy to remove the bloatware after its rooted. Enjoy it, its a fun tablet.
Yea the only "Bloat" that acer really puts on it are some applications. Thinks like Acer Sync and stuff like that. Its not a huge deal, but I find that a lot of the custom ROMs are quicker and smoother, likely because of the overclocking.
Thanks for clearing that up guys. I'll probably just stick w/ rooted stock 3.2 for a while. I'm looking for the most stable and most functional experience I can get out of this thing.
Another question - is there any way to change the software buttons on the a500m I know there's a way the transformer can do it, but I can't find it for the a500. (Haven't scoured the web tho- on my god awful phone till the weekend)
the only actual downside to rooting at this point is that when i bought mine (last week) it came with 3.2.1 currently there are only 3.2 roms not sure what fixes to the os 3.2.1 introduced, but do to the rooting process currently available to the Iconia you will have to Flash a custom rom in order to get root (you have to flash back to 3.0.1 then go through the steps at which point your stock rom is gone)

You can change these by a couple of methods.
1. By applying a theme package. You can get info in the themes forum.
2. By changing the icons in the rom.zip before flashing.
All of this is covered in the themes forum. I believe the guy who does the honeylicous rom has a thread there covering this.
Note though, you have to be careful about doing this, as if you don't follow instructions, you can semi-brick your device. It's happened to a few n00bs.
Hint. If you install a launcher app, you'll get rid of that Google search and apps button at the top of the display. Also, there are a couple of apps, that will hide the launcher at the bottom, and you can make it reappear when needed. Nice for watching a full screen film. (but it uses resources)

Looking to get the G2

Hello,
So I'm looking at getting the G2 for T-Mobile.
How is the Root and ROM scene coming along? It looks like there is a pretty simple and solid way to root, although it seems like only stock ROMs for now. Also I didn't see to seem a recovery thread for the TMO phone?
How soon does it look like we will start seeing the flagship ROMs? Like AOSPA, AOKP, PAC, etc. Also, with those ROMs, would it be possible to carry over some of the LG features like knock on?
Thank you in advance!
Just read a few threads and you'll get your answer.

I went through the threads, saw NONE of what your talking about. Went again, repeat story.
I see FOUR ROMs and ALL of them are stock rooted. Not a single other ROM.
So I go to android development, main thread there. Zero ROMs. EDIT: Found 2 modded stock in here. Both of them were in the TMO dev section already though.
Alright, original development, I see a few ROMs, none mention if they will work on tmobile.
On stuff like the CM ROM, assuming it works, no where does it say if knock on was ported/works at all, and NOTHING about the other features.
I still have no idea where you're seeing that AOSPA thread. Not in dev, original dev, or TMO dev.
Also, if you actually read what I said instead of being an assuming jerk. You'd see I said that I say the root method, and it looks pretty easy and solid. I didn't ask if it had root, or how to do it, just saying that I did find that thread, and it looked easy and like it applied to all variants of the phone.
So, why so mean? I read the forums, I found none of the answers. Then you get mad, telling me to read the forums, and again, nothing there. So apparently there is a magical forums with all these threads you are finding, and that's why I'm asking.

I see FOUR ROMs and ALL of them are stock rooted. Not a single other ROM.

Excuse me you did say "ROM scene" so taking all the G2 ROMs collectively, I'm putting it out there that collectively we have all these Roms already. Check the Verizon thread as well. Those Roms I was talking about are there. You wanted an answer to your "ROM scene" you got the answer. Next time choose your words more carefully. Sorry if I misunderstood you on your question here.
He did ask about T-mobile though in his op.
I believe it's just stock roms at the moment.
Rooting is solid and easy.
Great way to get rid of bloatware.
I think we just have to give it time for "other" roms to come.

This plus a couple devs just got and or are about to get the T-Mobile G2...get the phone first. Stock is a beast anyway.
You're not going to need to do much tweaking at all because of how fast and fluid the phone comes out the box
By the time your treaty to stretch out your wings the Roms will be there waiting

Thanks. Yeah I assumed as much but was hoping for otherwise.
Yes I was talking about T-Mobile. I thought that made sense but I could see how the other guys read it as just a general question.
I already see some decent looking stock ROMs that should hold me over until a real AOSP or CM base ROM comes out. I assume we have no ETAs on that. The optimus g (on sprint) still has pretty much ONE person porting 95% of all the ROMs. He's great at it, and updates all the ROMs weekly, but still, if he fell of the face of the earth, that phone would probably almost never get an updated ROM besides the CM builds and the one official ROM, PACman.
I got the phone yesterday....and dear god. The screen, form factor, buttons on the back....all of it is amazing. At 67% battery life and it's been running since noon yesterday. My old optimus G is at 75%....and it's been running for only 3 hours. Such an insane battery, I love it.
I am waiting to hear back from Sprint, in a battle to cancel my contract and get some discount on the ETF. I actually have a decent poor service case so we'll see how that goes. Worst case I'll just cancel the TMO plan and keep the phone until I can cancel Sprint.
I'll probably wait on rooting and using a ROM for a bit. Although I can't STAND the high DPI (on any phone really, I always have most of my apps on my other phones at 240 DPI or so) or the notification bar. Is there any non root way to change that? If not I may root today just so I can at least change the DPI and look in to the notification bar. Quick settings aren't even that bad. It's that brightness and ringer slider that I can't seem to turn off. I can't imagine why they though all this, plus qslide on by default, would be a nice experience for the user.
Most of the rest of the ROM they got right though, with some pretty nice features.
Thanks for the help, all of you!
