You may not know the root certificate needed for your webOS device is going to expire 23 July, 2013...
This certificate is needed for setting up a profile, backup/restore, App Catalog access and any other HP cloud services that webOS devices depend on.
The fix is announced and is coming today!!!!!
http://www.webosnation.com/hp-issue...-ensure-continued-access-webos-cloud-services
Pro Tips:
If your device has been dormant, make sure you update the date and time before attempting the App Catalog Update. This is valid up until July 22, 2013.
JULY 23, 2013 & LATER: You will need to set your date back to July 22, 2013 to connect to HP's servers and get the update.
The update is available through Software Manager as an update to the HP App Catalog application. I found it easier to open the App Catalog and search for new apps. There is an Update available for download/install under the name App Catalog Update with HP listed as the publisher/developer. It seems to install better this way. I tried 3 different devices: TouchPad, Veer and Pre 2. In the end, the method I describe (set date/use App Catalog and not Software Manager) was the one that woked on Pre 2 which was the most stubborn of the 3.
If you get stuck: reboot, make sure your date and time are current (up to 22-07-13) or is set to July 22nd (use from 23-07-13 and beyond). Then get the Update from the App Catalog itself.
New activations from 23-07-13 onward are supposed to be able to get through First Use and then auto-update the certificate...

Didn't receive the update notification on both my Pre+ and my Pre3 (o2 germany), so I had to install the update manually via "HP Catalog Update" App in the App Catalog.
On my Touchpad, when I try to install "HP Catalog Update", I get an error...

Manually check your certificate (as shown above). Some are reporting that they have the new cert even after the fail message...
I use an unlocked UK Pre3 which recently received the update. I also have a spare AT&T Pre3 activated only once previously to network unlock. Due to the silly Palm/HP single-profile-device policy and some minor application incompatibilities, when I activated the AT&T Pre3 using the same webOS profile and then returned to the UK model, some apps were screwed etc. and I had to re-setup a few. Although not a major headache, I assume the same would happen if I reactivate the AT&T Pre3 to get the certificate update.
Is there a better way?
Can my AT&T model get the update from the HP server without it trying to restore the config from my UK model?
If not, on reactivating my UK model, can I use Save/Restore to revert with ease and let it re-upload that config to the HP servers?
Any other suggestions? I would appreciate your advice.

Either use the Bypass Activation method and get the update via App Catalog after some further manipulations under Impostah... http://www.webosnation.com/bypass-activation-webos-2-x
-OR-
Just create/use a second email account to use as a backup profile for your spare Pre 3.
Of the two, a second profile is by far the easiest and best method for a backup. If it moves up to being your daily driver, you can always switch it over to your primary profile.
HP TouchPad Root Certificate fix for WebOS cloud services
Hey thanks for putting together the thread. I made a little video to help users become aware of the problem and fix it. We may also need a thread about this in the TouchPad General section so more people will hear about it.
HP TouchPad Root Certificate fix for WebOS cloud services
HP TouchPad Root Certificate fix for WebOS cloud services(Important)
The Problem:
A vital "root certificate" on webOS devices is due to expire on July 23, 2013. This certificate gives Touchpad users access to HPs cloud services for the App catalogue and Backing up the device. When the "root certificate" expires users will no longer have access to the App catalogue and backed up data. Furthermore HPs online WebOS support is expected to disappear altogether by the end of the year. So it’s recommended to backup your personal data and essential Touchpad software to your PC now.
Read the full WebOS Survival Kit Guide Here:
The solution:
Getting a free App catalog update will fix the "root certificate" problem as long as you downloaded it before July,23,2013. If you are hearing about this after July,23,2013, then you will need to first set the date to June,23,2013. To do this boot into WebOS and go to settings/Date & Time, toggle off the "Network Time". Now adjust the date accordingly and download the Update, once complete comeback and Toggle on the "Network Time" button back to on.
To get the update in WebOS go to Downloads/HP App Catalog. Open the app Catalog and select the categories tab at the bottom. Next click on the “new” tab at the top and Scroll down the page till you see “App Catalog Update”. Now install the update and your Touchpad support will continue to work in a post WebOS world.
Note*This update requires webOS 2.1+ to be installed. Devices with older versions will need to run the WebOS Doctor first, the latest version is 3.0.5.

Remember: if it seems like it failed, this might be a false negative which has been happening to many users.
Don't Panic. Just verify the certificate.
If you have the Internalz Pro file manager (http://forums.webosnation.com/canuck-coding/256518-internalz-pro-v1-5-0-a.html) you can use it to navigate to the certificate and open it to read the expiry date...

I'm having a heck of a time getting this done, hopefully someone can help me out here. I have tried running the install from HP App Catalog but it fails. When I try browsing to the cert location with Internalz Pro I don't even have the directory that I need to look in. I get as far as \etc and that's it. There is no ssl directory in there.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
*UPDATE*
I got it! Apparently the date you set the Touchpad to makes a difference. I figured anything before the end date would work so I just clicked the year and set it to 2012. The update just kept failing, it wouldn't even download. I kept looking around for a fix and I found the official HP document and it recommends setting the date to 7/1/13. I did that and the update from the app store worked. Go figure.
This still doesn't explain why I can't find the directory with the certificate file but the updated succeeded so that's all I care about.
EDIT: Never mind. After 3 reboots, it took. Thanks for the info, guys.
I had a hell of a time trying to fix this problem. i ended up fixing it by connecting with wosqi in the command line, copied the package form /media/internal/downloads/ pulled it from the phone and installed it with wosqi.
I get "Install Failed" every single time I try this. Multiple reboots, erasing data, nothing helps. Change date, download app catalog, update failed. I've tried different dates too. Has anyone had this problem and found a fix?

You didn't mention turning off network time before rolling back the date???
Have you tried manually verifying the certificate? Many users are getting a false "Fail" message...

If your certificate did not update, go to the HP help page and follow the instructions again. I believe that setting the date exactly to July 1st 2013 is critical due to reports on other threads. That specific date might be a trigger to HP servers. Another user reported that after changing the date to July 1st, 2013 he turned network time back on and that allowed a successful update (TouchPad).

I just received my Galaxy Tab, but the Samsung Apps do not seem to work. When I launch the app, I just receive the message "No updates available", and I do not get acces to any apps or games. I have a "clean" Tab, not infected by any carriers
Anyone with solutions? I have tried both with 3G and Wi-Fi and I have tried to clear all app related data.

Where did you get the tab? If its from the states then you wont see any apps. Its only if change your country code to like France or uk that you will see apps. There's nothing worth getting from the app store anyway. Trust me your not missing out.

I bought it in Denmark in a electronics shop. We should be able to get access in Denmark. I guess I will have to settle if there is no solution but I would have liked some games fitting the screen size - especially since I saw a golf game
At least compatibility mode works

i'm also hoping it will bring us much of apps/games fit for the tab, and meanwhile there is only one app appears, it's no doubt now the repository is depending on the location, like any other software store
is.

I have discovered that you can get great games directly from Gameloft and they fit the screen perfectly. Unfortunately the games I bought for my Nexus One cannot be transferred to the tab, but I have just contacted their support by mail, hoping they can help All games are available in trial versions as well.

Clean tab in Hungary, same problem, apps is empty
I managed to get "Samsung Apps" to work properly for my local area (yeah, it's location/product -specific). Because I flashed unofficial firmware early-on in my ownership of the Galaxy Tab, I quickly "lost" the default Product Code for the UK, which is CPW. Instead, I had multi-CSC installed (which offers CPW) but initialized with KOR, the wrong country code ! (for both the 3e Recovery mode and the normal boot)
Fortunately, "SGS Toolbox" revealed that an automatic backup of the original product code was available in /efs/, so I wouldn't have to perform a full IMEI initialization (*#272*....#). All I had to do was to make a backup of the /efs/ folder to my external SD CARD (better safe than sorry !), as well as a full Titanium Backup (yeah, I'm paranoid ), followed by deleting nv_data.bin (and its .md5 peer), and renaming .nv_data.bak (and its .md5 peer) to nv_data.bin. I also edited the contents of /efs/imei/mps_code.dat to replace KOR with CPW. Easy. Reboot, check "Samsung Apps", and there is a few more apps in the list ! (not many though, like less than 10)
Cheers, Dan
How did you know there was a backup using SGS Tools? I seem to missing this information.

or:

Beware: each time this function is called, some 2MB data backup is created in this folder:
/sdcard/ProductCodeCheck/
That's odd, I don't see this option anywhere.

Sweet thanks, for some reason I downloaded sgs tools instead of toolbox :/
Great success, thanks daniel.weck. Quick question though: Now that I have a backup of my own, I remembered that I only had like one samsungapp. Since you mentioned that you had around 10 and some other had around 14, I'm kinda liking that and wondering if I can just use your or someone elses nv_data file instead? Would you tell if there would be any issues with that?
CPW
I just switched from EUR(Which I switched from KOR using the IMEI/Reset method), this time using the renaming/editing method and rebooted. My product code is now CPW according to SGSToolbox but the store now just shows the single app (radio companion).
It showed 2 apps on "EUR" (+= blinkxbeat)
Anyone got suggestions on the cause and solution?
P.S. I assume CPW == Carphone Warehouse? My tab actually came from PCWorld. Shame i didn't backup the original ROM before flashing, It had Nova and showed several apps and a couple extra things that i can't seem to find anymore.

I think the nv_data is IMEI-dependent.
I still don't understand what's going on. My Tab that's on JJ7 abduction set to CPW doesn't show anything, the other is untouched on JJ3, also CPW but it world fine? Does the build.prop also play a part?

Yeah I'm having same result, I followed daniel's method of restoring without resetting and it does now show BMC but still no apps there. Used to have at least one.

I tried doing this the full way and it seems CPW doesn't exist in the list, I think this is the problem, and the reason the manual method does not work.
we will need to find the right files for CPW I think.
i have a problem with my samsung apps..my samsung apps cannot download if i dowload the persen only 0%...have a solution?
Hi *,
as daniel.weck I also lost my product code after flashing the JM6 ROM. I followed the instructions to revert back to my original product code (DBT for Germany) but I still only see "blinkx" as app in the Samsung Store.
With the stock ROM, there was NFS:Shift, Asphalt 5 and a couple more apps.
Any ideas what to do next to get all apps back in the store? I already cleared the cache and data of Samsung Apps but it didn't help
Edit: just ignore me people. I did the factory reset using *#272*IMEI# so I could select DBT and now it's working fine
I am brand new to XDA and therefore can't post to the development thread. I have done Super One Click to my bravo and I believe it successfully rooted it. I am trying to add the wifi tether app but because it's non-market it won't let me load the application. The SOC said that it successfully added the non-market app coding but it doesn't seem to have worked. Any suggestions?
Enable att non-market app
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* I am not responsible if you brick your phone, but this is the easiest way, besides ADB shell comand.
** this step also work on At&t flipout
1. Root your bravo.
2. Install "RootExplorer".
3. Install "SQLite Editor".
4. Use "RootExplorer" take you to
/data/data/com.motorola.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db/settings
5. click on the "Value" colum of "force_only_market_apps"
6. Press "menu" button and select "Edit Field"
7. Change "1" to "0", then save.
Now you have "Unknown sources" option available for you at "Application Settings". ( check it to enable non-market install directly from web or your microsd card )
So you're saying using the SQL editor on the phone to change the value right? Also is there a free editor available? I've seen this online and have a free root explorer but so far ahven't found a free editor.

There is a discussion about pulling the file out of the phone, edit it and re-install back in. ( somehow I found that method little more risky, if you didn't keep the file in proper format, you might end up w/ infinite loop )
enable non market app on Motorola bravo
First i want to thank No Clue for the final part of this post , because without him i could not have made it possible .
Here is a step by step method to remove (non-market App ) block from your
Motorola BRAVO with AT&T:
First you need to make sure your Bravo is Rooted.
Here is what you need to do for that:
1- you plug your Motorola Bravo to your computer, using the USB cord provided
and as prompted, install the driver (motorola portal) needed to sync your
phone to your PC.Make sure you Check on : Settings/Applications/Development/
USB Debugging.(debug mode when USB connected)
2- Once phone connected to PC successfully. Download this zip file (added below):
AC-SWM.zip
Unzip on your desktop.
( the content of this zip file has everything to perform what is commonly called :
"side load" non-market applications.)
* How to use AC-SWM:
- drop your non-market application into the "payload" folder
- doubleclick "loader.bat" to run application
- If phone successfully connected to computer. a DOS window
will come up and will read "daemon started successfully"
and will show a serial number of the device attached.
the rest is pretty much self guided.
- You push enter and it will show the process of installing wathever
app you have on your "payload" folder. If installed successfully it will
display message "Success".
3- Knowing this. The first step to successfully control internal data on your phone
is to "root" it.
Thats where you are going to need the "side load" method to install :
Superuser.apk (added below)
This will give the following applications access to your phone ROM
z4root.1.3.0.apk (added below).
That little application is the easyest way to root your phone.
just install it and run it. On screen your will have a button that says "ROOT"
press on it and let the magic happen! It will root the phone and will reboot by
itself.
Once the phone back on you should be rooted.
4- Now that it is rooted. There is an option that was removed from your phone
by AT&T that enables "non-market" applications to install.
You need to get to the settings database on your phone to restore that option.
ON Motorola bravos the two database files that controls this option are :
etc/motorola/com.motorola.android.providers.settings/setting.mkitso
and
etc/motorola/com.android.providers.settings/secure.mkitso.
But without some sort of file explorer app you can't access those files.
We are going to use the same "side load" process to install these apps:
- root explorer.apk (added below)
- sqleditor.v1.4.apk (added below)
* what are their functions?
- root explorer, will allow you to show on a list all the files on your phone
including the "root directory" files among witch will be listed the two files
we talked about above. but at this point we can only see them, but we can't
change the codings on them (edit).
- To be able to "edit" data files on your phone you need SQLite editor. It will
also give you the ability to change the codings to it .
5- So after installing those two applications . Run root explorer, it'll take a
little time to find and list all the files on your phone . Then get into these files:
data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
(*thats when sql editor will take over and allow you to see settings.db contents)
you go to "secure"
locate the line listed as : Install_non_market_apps press "menu" button to edit
Records and change value to "1".
and save change.
data/data/com.motorola.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
(*thats when sql editor will take over and allow you to see settings.db contents)
you go to "settings"
locate the line listed as : force_only_market_apps press "menu" button to edit
Records and change value to "0".
and save change.
6- go back to home screen and open settings on home screen menu
Applications, and voila!
you should have now an "unknown sources" check field available to you.
PS: if Field is not showing try to download a non-market app directly to Phone
and install.
phone will show a message asking if you are sure you want to authorize this app.
and a setting button.
once you say yes the first time. This field will be available to you then .
Now that worked for me and i am currently able to install non-market app
straight to my phone .

What did not work for you exactly .
i would want this post to remain up to date?!
cause previous user was able to make it work!
Is it one of the files i attached that is not working for you?!
give me details please?!
When I installed your root explorer and sqlite file the sq wouldn't autostart. I have been modding for a while so I rushed and just pulled the db files edited and replaced. Which caused a boot cycle. So I hard reset and installed my purchased root and sq apps. It worked flawlessly that way. I will be dumping my system into the kitchen over the weekend.
With how smooth this phone is I would have figured another dev would have started working with this phone. I will be working on the Bravo while working on my X10. Wish me luck.

Yeah! You right, noone even gave it the time of the day... I guess it's because of all those restrictions with AT&T.
But you know where to find me if you get the cooked ROM to work on this!!!
GOOOOOODDDD LUUUUCCKKKK!!!!
I would say the first step to this is to change the bootloader , but can't find a clockwork that works on Bravo.
same problem plagued the X10 for the longest of times. Now they have about 8 roms including MIUI and CM7 with a locked bootloader. So patients and time will be the key.
just set up WIFI tether. Worked great Thank you.

you need to master reset after changing those 2 files on most bravo's, that is probably the problem. I did your procedure a while back on my gf's bravo using info i pieced together from other phones, i tried everything but it would not work till i master reset after making the changes, period.

Sideloader worked great.
The explorer and the sql editor worked. I only changed the 2nd value "force_only_market_apps" and then i was good to go. I couldnt find the Install_non_market_apps value. But after everything i didnt need it.
Didnt have to reset.
Tether works (2.06 not the 3.0) but its rather slow on my nook color. anyone have any ideas how to speed it up?

it may be because i assume ur using the adhoc mod for ur nook color? i hear the supplicant used is problematic. Unfortunately i doubt the bravo wifi supports ap mode but has anyone tried? dl wifi tether 3.0 from the google code site and see if it will let you set hostapd mode. it works great on the dx but the dx has an ap mode wifi firmware included from motorola for the vzw app.
I use abd install extremely easy for installing third party apps, simple and very painless.

Great advice Lec. Was looking all over for that little sucker. Thanks!
It is frustrating to be constantly reminded that an update is available (Acer_1.139.05_Com_Gen1) while the update process fails because of a damaged or missing file.
In my case this is Maps.apk
The log file reminds me that not only is the Maps.apk not correct (hash sum is wrong), but there is no record of a cached version in a file called saved.file
So, can one of the bright sparks here help with a Step by Step guide for n00b to remedy this for me and others in a similar pickle.
The hardware is fine; this is a software issue.
I do have Better Terminal Pro installed and a SD card.
Please post suggestions/solutions here and/or DM me.
I think this is a flaw in their update process. They allow Google Maps to be updated via market. After you allow the market to update the apk, the file hash is no longer the same. Now, Acer is expecting you to be on the original Maps.apk in order to process their differential update. It would seem that this could even happen to non-rooted tablets, so this is not a good idea for Acer to be doing it this way. Until we know for sure, I would advise folks to not allow Google Maps to update via market unless they have a backup copy of their original .apk.
You will need to obtain the original maps.apk that came with 1.016.05_COM_GEN1 and replace the .apk and matching .odex (if their is one) in /system/apps. You will need to use mount the /system in r/w mode in order to do with with root explorer etc. After you have done, the updater should get past this issue. Their are device dump system images posted in a dev thread that you can extract to get the .apk. There is a tool (can't think of the name at the moment) that allows you to extract these dd images.

That is absolutely absurd and ridiculous practice by Acer !!
it also confirmed my finding ( regarding FLASH )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14181655&postcount=100
legal market apps updates all the time... Do they (Acer) expected us to stay put with the originals at all time ??
If I read you correctly, I have to have root in order to put these file(s) back ?
What if I don't want to root and keep my device stock like the majority of "regular" users but I did updated (maps, flash...etc ) ?? DANGGGG !!!
getting more and more like Apple way of practice !!
ARGGHHH !
I love this device !, but the more and more I found things about Acer.... won't be a repeat customer, that's for sure !.... Thankful for XDA's members helping out though

This is NOT something that happens as a matter of course. You must have some issue with your specific device as the updates work perfectly fine with apps updated from the market.
So far, you are the ONLY one reporting this issue, therefore it must be a local problem.
Exchange your unit.

I just did a factory reset again just for the sake of seeing what files are in the "system/app" folder...
SAME, 122 files...
my stock device does not have the following 3 files...
BooksTablet.apk
LinkToAdobeFlash.apk
LinkToAdobeFlash.odex
as soon as I setup, it notified me there's update available in market ( maps )... I declined, and this unit is COMPLETELY STOCK.... no flash update either.
I wondered if it has anything to do with my device being on the kernel & build # of:
1.016.05_COM_GEN1 ( Kernel 2.6.36.3-00001-gf991e5d )
read it somewhere that my kernel/build came with flash 10.2 and earlier build ( the ones that are getting the updates now ) came with flash 10.1
just trying to tie 2 & 2 together
I can't just exchange the unit do to the fact that I cannot prove there is something wrong when going into the store....
will wait and see when the update roll out for my particular build # then...
I wondered if anyone with the same build & kernel as me seeing the same thing
Bear in mind that the updates are incremental and are designed to go FROM a specific build TO a newer build. You should not try to use an update that's for a different build number... That's why they're not appearing for everyone. Acer need to create the builds first, then stagger the releases.
Can you go into the application settings and choose uninstall updates under google maps? I'm not familiar with honeycomb. But i know 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 have this feature available for system apps

I have no idea why your Maps.apk is invalid. I have updated mine just fine from Market and I ain't getting such issues.
But well, one of the easiest ways of fixing that could be to just reinstall a stock ROM. Of course, it means you'll lose some (most) of your settings and have to redo it all, but.. well, atleast you'd have the OS back as it is supposed to be and future update should work again.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15914563#post15914563 if you decide to go that route.
Couple of months ago, we started the discussion with firmware fix on DVP. With help from active forum members, we opened discussion with Microsoft and Dell and finally got the fix, making DVP best WP7 ever.
Now it is time for Mango update! Yesterday, Toshiba released first Mango ever!

Mango is still in beta testing, dude. All the phones should get it at once, save for the carriers who delay updates for whatever reason.
Also, Microsoft is the only one that can release the update, Toshiba probably just released a phone...atleast thats what the picture looks like.

To be fair, news outlets did say this phone would be the first Mango phone to market. Considering Mango has been RTM'ed, I would guess we should see it pretty soon.

As Mango goes to carrier and manufactures already. I guess the rest of works should only be bunch of tests. And rumors said lots of people from dell are using Mango DVP already. So I guess not too much problem to see it coming out soon.
Its probably safe to say that everyone who owns a Windows Phone and has access to XDA has Mango now. We have the most-locked phone and even we got it.
Even so, Mango still has a "Release Date", and anything after that within a reasonable period of time should be blamed on the carriers for not releasing it. Possibly now since the release has been opened up to more professionals, more criticism can be achieved.

<----- this guy
I did it on my dvp works like a charm. No problems
Sent from my Venue Pro using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Got it on my DVP now too..
Had to delete and Update UpdateWP.exe and wm7update.dll
go to the x64 folder of the new Zune folder you get when you downlaod the mango update and manually install Setup-Update-Wp-x64.exe (it will be in folder c:/zune/04.08.2134.00/updatetool/x64/)
The rerun the c:/RCToRTM/ISVto7720.bat file
That seemed to finally get it..
Now that all said, this is my backup phone (my old DVP with a small crack in teh screen that was to be sent back to Dell) it was updated to 7712, but while loading music the new DVP it bricked on me.. and I can not get it to get out of the SD card error. I try to boot into the "connect to PC" icon, but it wont do it.. stuck at Dell logo. Any ideas on that one..?
So, I have a Samsung Infuse, but I just upgraded my brothers DVP to Mango, and I thought I'd give you the play by play.

warned about this by samsung members app, updating now
Can someone please capture and share the download URL or upload the OTA.zip for this build ?
I'm sure there are many beta 1 users (me included) who would be very grateful to get a chance to update their non-offiical beta builds.
If someone can create an Odin package of this build it would be even better but I guess we can use ZPK4 Odin and use Adb sideload to flash the OTA.
Thanks in advance !!
Everything feels a lot smoother, better optimised, but gallery image scrolling seems a little stuttery still
Samsung Pass new feature doesn't seem to work yet, tried logging in, asked for password twice, then told me it wasn't available and asked for the password again

Google the following: capture ota url (Sorry I can't post URLs)
There's a guide from Andriodsage (How to Capture OTA Update URL For Your Android Device [OTA Capture Guide])
If this method fails, may try searching for the large .zip file (using ES File Explorer) downloaded by the ota update (after downloading but before installing)
Thanks in advance

That's the issue, we can't get the OTA zip without root in order to share with you, and if we already have root, we can't get the OTA
This has been the same problem since the 2nd release
We would have to download the OTA, then root, then capture the zip and copy to PC, but rooting after OTA would also be a problem as the phone reboots and likely clears caches, which will delete the OTA
There may be another method to capture the zip, but so far we haven't discovered it

Where there's will there's a way.. but it's a little complicated.
Setup a caching proxy on a PC and use that proxy in the GS7 WiFi settings. Then when you download the OTA.. the PC would have the download in its cache.
If someone wants to give this a try I can help setting up such a proxy and get the file uploaded.

Yea that could work possibly, if the PC caches it and doesn't just route it direct
I think capturing the link using wireshark or something could be another method, but would the samsung servers allow a non Samsung registered device, such as a PC, to download the zip?
No doubt there is a way, but seems to be a PITA atm

It will be useful if you add a manual HOW TO DO IT
Yea I think people are going to prefer to set up their own proxies rather than use someone else's, as all traffic including sensitive data will be routed through the proxy, not just the OTA zip
Anyone make a flash able zip

After reading some of comments here I realize it's not as simple as I initially thought so here's how I'd try to do it ..
This is not sure to work because it cannot cache encrypted (SSL) traffic but it may be worth a shot.
Obviously, you will need to have your Phone either on Stock 6.0.1 or Beta 1 (ZPK4) to get the correct OTA image.
Phase 1 - Install a local proxy server on a computer in your network
======
Note: you need a Windows PC on to use the same WiFi network as your phone to reduce the number of possible issues
1. Download and install FreeProxy (I can't publish URLs but you can get at www[remove this space].handcraftedsoftware.org/index.php?page=download&op=getFile&id=2&title=FreeProxy-Internet-Suite
2. Find the FreeProxy in your start menu, right click to Run as Administrator
3. Create a local folder to store the proxy cache (e.g. C:\cache)
4. In FreeProxy go the "Define" --> Define Cache, provide the path to the folder you created and activate cache.
5. Go to "Start / Stop" and start the service - we have a runnig proxy which will save files to C:\cache (in this example)
6. Before we can connect to the proxy from the phone we need to allow this connection in the windows firewall
(if you are using a 3rd party security software like Symantec, Kaspersky, Bitdefender, ESET, etc.. refer to its documentation on how to allow a specific port.)
7. Go to Windows Start Menu and write "Firewall" , open the Windows Firewall
8. Select "Advanced Settings"
9. In the "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security" go to "Inbound Rules"
10. create a new Rule, select Port, TCP, in the specific port write 8080, then next
11. Allow the connection , keep all three options checked, and name it Proxy and finish'
Now we need to note that PC's IP address (if you are familiar with command prompt you can simply use ipconfig)
12. On your PC, go to start and write network, open the "Network Connections"
13. Locate the adapter (WiFi, or Wired) that you are using
14. Rignt click it, select "status", then the details button, note the IPv4 address
Phase 2 - Configure your phone to use the proxy
======
1. on the phone go to settings, WiFi
2. long press the WiFi network you're connected to (should be the same network as your Windows PC), and select "Manage Network Settings"
3. Check the "show advanced options"
4. on the PC, check Proxy, select "Maunal"
5. in pproxy hostname enter the IP address of the PC that you noted in the previous section
6. in the port use 8080
7. click save
8. restart your phone
9. run the OTA update to get the update and install normally
Finally, check your C:\cache folder, if this worked you should have the OTA zip file there (may be a different file name but you should identify by its size)
Once this is done (even if it failed) make sure you remove the proxy settings from your phone WiFi, and you can stop the FreeProxy on your windows PC.
If it does work you may want to keep FreeProxy on your system for any future captured.. if it doesn't just uninstall it..
One question: do you have OTA updates 1 and 2? If don't then it doesn't make a sense to grab OTA 3 because it expects that you have previous OTAs installed already. Without it the installation will crash or you can corrupt your system.

I actually noted that in the original post but I used bold text now to make sure people don't miss it
Ideally, a registered beta tester would go back to the latest official 6.0.1.. then the OTA should be a full ZPL3 update (at least I'm hoping it would be)
Like I said, there's no guarantee it would work.. it's a possibility.
Obviously, a better solution would have been to use a transparent proxy with the router redirecting all traffic and using ssl decryption but it's way too complicated to setup..
Alternatively, if your router supports packet capture or tcpdump that data can show the OTA URL.
It seems that the Android System battery bug is gone in the latest beta build.
Look at my screenshot. It's never been that good since beta 1!
I can't do any ota and I have the beta 1. Is this normal? I'd like to update to beta 3 but ota is saying I have the latest firmware '...zpk1'
Any help would greatly be appriciated. Btw I'm not a 'beta user' I flashed this firmware via Odin
