I use android, how calibrate g-sensor?
Try "GPS Status" app. It can be found in the Play Market (trial): https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5lY2xpcHNpbS5ncHNzdGF0dXMyIl0 . This program chechks all sensors in HD2. Also check your compass, because I found out that G-Sensor cannot work in Android, if the compass is blocked by some reason. The same time it works fine even with stuck compass in the WM. I got the same problem with Android when I used leather case with a magnet lock.

So, this is your reason. The most possible issue is that your compass sensor has magnetized. Try to demagnetize sensor using a standard procedure described in the manual (move your device ten times drawing "8" symbol). Than check again.

You are wrong. 3D-sensor is located directly in the mainboard and not connected by cables. That cables connects GPS and RADIO modules to the mainboard.

the GPS-Status app make with first start a calibration.
This is the CABLE for GPS
you must open your HD2 and search the problem. no other way to found this problem

-pixelfreak- GPS Status app. as same as any other software cannot demagnetize the sensor, because it is a physical process.

this is a post from a app member:
"GPS Status app has a g-sensor calibration feature. Look for it, it's there"
the app must not demagnetize.
and the latest version from GPS-Status makes with the first start a sensor calibration.
you can test this self and make a logfile from the app start and read this logfile. i have test this app in all my roms and i search and read ever the logfile from QtADB.
the GPS-Status not work with non calibration. also search the app the sensors and make self a calibration. and the app have a feuture for calibration (for external gps sensors)

-pixelfreak- I will say, when I ran GPS Status app. with frozen compass and G-sensor it was still frozen. Nothing was happen. Based on my experience. Whenever I remove magnet from the proximity of the device, 3D-sensor (both, compass and G-sensor because its the same chip) started to work properly and Android rotation appeared.

hell1986 Yes. Exactly I am talking about! Try to demagnetize compass, remove a case frrom your device and check again.
P.S. Do you know how to demagnetize compass?
P.P.S. Why you talk about GPS? This is a different part of the device not related to the 3D-sensor (compas/G-Sensor).

So the compass in Touch HD only gives you digital coordinates.
There is no visual compass like on Android-devices and Iphone 3GS, right?
I'm sorry if I'm misunderstanding your discussion - but since when does the HD have a compass??? AFAIK it doesn't!

Exactly, thats why im wonderring how this is supposed to work?
My GPS connects and i get coordinates, thats it.
I guess thats all we can expect from our Touch HD.
rumours says ... HD hardware provides a hidden compass feature.... (like TMC or graphic improve)
it needs only software (or software programmer) to work ....
But the compass software unfortunately delivers the same error to me as the topics thread says....
Well it kind of works for me, when i get a GPS-signal in Google Maps I get coordinates in the compass-software aswell. But thats it.
Our HD doesn't have build inside digital compass so unlike iPhone 3GS we cannot use it inside building instantly, must have GPS reception with coordinate. New HTC Tattoo has it, you can see it in its specification, and maybe HTC Leo will have it as well.
I have yet to get the compass turning, so it's almost useless for now. If you have GPS software, it will give you both the coordinates and direction of North.
I guess it's just a cool gimmick in the end.
like many GPS programs that are available for WM, most have a compass componenet to them a personal fave of mine is efficasoft GPS, though it will only register once your movement and direction has been determined via GPS coordinates, So unless you have like someone else said the new Iphone or some others maybe have a proper digital compass then you should get a stationary reading ?, anyway.... I think thats right....?, feel free to corect me....

you have to make sure you install, google maps to your main memory not your storage card. Then it works, but once you try to quit it causes slow down and problems until you soft reset.

The HD does not have a digital compass in it like some other phones. You can run a GPS compass on it, however.
A GPS compass can tell you which direction you are moving but it cannot tell you which direction you are pointing.

Hello
Is it possible somehow to turn the screen upside down? I get better reception on my HD2 when I hold it upside down. I sometimes use AE Button plus to rotate the screen but it cannot rotate the Manila screens. Is there another application that can rotate EVERYTHING 180 degrees?
Maybe you could try to avoid keeping your hand on the antenna which is at thew lower part of the phone? (page 10 of user manual)

That's extremely hard to do in normal use though. IMO it's a ridiculous place to put the antenna. When touching the antenna you reduce the effectiveness, so the power goes up....and thus the SAR level....
Even if you could turn the screen upside down (with Gyrator 2, for example), the microphone and loudspeaker would still remain in their positions, so it would be pointless
Well I don't use my HD2 much for phone calls. It's mostly other applications which use Internet and holding the HD2 upside down really makes a difference. Of course you don't think about it until you're at a location with poor coverage.
Another reason is that I often put my HD2 in the iPhone dock of my portable speakers and I need to put it upside down to be able to connect the audio. I think everyone can see the need now

I see your point. Again, I would try Gyrator 2.
100% weird/fail design by HTC engineers again... The built-in antenna at the bottom of the device? The manual on page 10 "advice" us not to touch the antenna zone. Unless you're using bluetooth, how to hold the phone without touching the antenna zone? Silly design.
Is this the first phone in the world ever have antenna at the bottom of the device?

Hey .. maybe I found something new.
As far as I know you can't force compass recalibration. I only saw the screen first time I run the compass app. Even magnets close to my HD2 wont show the screen.
And it seems it would be needed. My compass very often shows clearly wrong heading.
And now the trick .. the recalibration works all the time, even without the screen ! Simply do the 8 move .. and the compass will start to show correct heading !
I'm running 1.43 rom btw.
When doing 8move, do you keep phone in vertical or horizontal position? Or does it matter at all?
It's easier to show then to describe:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sP3d00Hr14o
Though I do it a bit slower.
Now I found there are more methods. Clearly nobody really understands what's going on. But this method above works for me.
got it, thanks
wait what? How is this a trick? HTC compas clearly says to do this if its not calibrated. What is going on around there?
I was hoping this thread was going to be a way of starting the compass without geting that annoying calibration screen.

Then you didn't read the thread... The OP was saying that sometimes even if the compass wasn't saying calibration was needed, it would show wrong resullts, so he was looking for a way to "force" calibration.
I work with industrial electronic compasses, and calibrating them usually involves turning them in all "3D" directions so that they can register max/min values on all axes. I do the same with my HD2 and it works well.
Yes .. the 'trick' is in that you don't have to see the screen and recalibration work all the time, not only after showing the screen.
It don't work
I tried to hard resset and many other things. There's no way of Digital Compass work for me. When I move the phone as 8, the maximum I get is a blank screen. (maybe it's because flip it software) but no mather how I try, never could use digital compass.
Anyone has a tip, a cab, or anything to help me make it work ? Thank you
Compass Device Sensor
Hi llucas
There is a software call "Z-DeviceTest" in google play store , it is a free app , you can download and check what sensors are avaiable in your device. If you have compass in your device, you should get "Tick" (refer -> device1.jpg ) on the compass Icon , if not you will get a"X Cross" (refer -> device2.jpg ) on the compass icon.
Hope this helps.
Hi,
I've had my Hero on Orange UK now for about 1 month.. I have been using various compass apps and even the spirit level apps.
All was fine until last week when I tried to use the compass and it failed to work/move..
I tried the spirit level apps and they have stopped working...
Is there a way to test the compass and G sensor to make sure what is happening ?
I did wonder if the driver may have been corrupted while I was trying the various apps. I have a lot of apps now on the phone, including paid for sat nav etc. It's my work phone and don't really want to send it back to Orange (or HTC) unless it is the last resort as it is needed daily..
Is there a soft reset that will reload the drivers ?
Any help would be appreciated
Have you tried resetting your gsensor calibration in Settings --> Sound and Display?

I did have difficulty finding the calibration setting, seems a strange place to put it !
Anyway, I've now run the cal for the G sensor and it goes through the motions etc and says calibrated.
I guess if it physically didn't work it would throw up a failed to calibrate type error messge.
I just down loaded a simple spirit level prog (after taking all my similar progs off incase one of those was causing problem).
If I use the calibration setting on that it doesn't even move, that is what is making me feel more inclined (Could be a joke there !) to think that it is the drivers that are faulty and HTC's G sensor cal works at a lower level....
ddotpatel: The compass facility is (was !) very good. Some of the apps are better than others and are faster to respond. Just type in compass in market place, loads of free ones to try..
I really could do with finding a full original driver pack to re install. That may cure my problem...
Failing that, is there a proper SOFT RESET for the Hero, not just power off or take battery out. Something that forces it to reload drivers etc...
Thanks again for taking the time out to reply..
Phil-w
Ok,.... Next thing to do is to uninstall all compas applications,... Then reboot,... then calibrate gsensor again,... then reboot,... install compas app, try again.
If that still fails,... I'd run an RUU to restore back to factory set.
RUUs can be found in the sticky at the top of the development section,...
[ROM] Official HTC Hero RUU ROM + Radio Links
Well that did the trick,
4 re cals and re boots then downloaded new compass app, works a treat now.
I will have to keep checking if all is well. Try the same trick again if not....
Thanks
Phil
p.s it did come up this time with aborted calibration a couple of times but now seems stable.
Glad it helped pal.

after playing x-plane, my g-sensor is all messed up, and theres no way i can find to re-calibrate it, none of the bubble level apps work
I was playing Drive with Zombies and it pulled hard right. Restarting the app several times and the bubble level had no effect.
Finally I tried laying it flat on the table and starting the game. Problem solved.

Well, thanks for the idea, but that will not work - I checked (I have similar problem on my Nexus 7) - The GPS Status APPs does not recalibrate the G-Sensor system, it only "recalibrates" how it interprets the g-sensor output for its own purposes, so the recalibration does not affect any other applicatons
You can check that deleting stored data for GPS Status app wil also resets the way it represent the G-Sensor data...
maybe there is some other way how to fix the G-sensor?

Ok, I will try to look for other solution..., thank anyway..
EDIT: I think have just found solution: when I calibrated the sensor using App "Sensor tester" (yes, there are several apps of that name, but only one is working on my N7 and has calibration available), then ALL sensor testing apps (including GPS status) sees the G-sensor corectly calibrated, and it works even in the game that caused all my troubles. And also, it does not matter whether or not is that sensor app running - I stopped it and deleted its data and it is still working fine!

In the APP menu select "other avaliable sensor", then select "MPL Accelerometer type: ACCELEROMTER " (it is actually a bit longer sentence). Then again, open the APP menu and there will be buton labeled "Calibrate" which will take you through the rest of the process...

oh boy, it seem that the problem is baack again:
I restarted my Nexus 7 (I was experimenting with USB host, but that does not belong here), and now the G-sensor it is back in its previous (misscalibrated) state, and this time, the "Sensor tester" app is not helping I even tryed several other apps, but nothing is helping this time, and I can not find what is different this time (restart)... :crying:
EDIT: hmm... today, I tried again, and now it is working (???). I do not know why it did not worked last time... If every application that uses g-sensor would also contain calibration settings for its own use, world would be so much nicer place...
