[Q] Best permission manager app? - Oppo Find 5

Hi all,
a few days ago i received my Oppo Find 5. So I rooted it immediately and installed LBE Guard on it, so that I could manage permissions. Why I didn't go with the built-in one? It doesn't show as much permissions you can edit as LBE.
The problem is however, as soon as the service (LBE) starts, my Oppo reboots. This really sucks for I cannot use LBE now, so i can't manage what apps are allowed to do or not.
What is your recommendation? What's the best permission manager according to you? One thing I really want to be able to control is whether an app can auto-start or not. So, does anyone have a good suggestion?
Looking forward to your replies,
dbhuis

Do you use LBE from the playstore? If yes, that one isn't compatible with >=4.1 - at least that was the case. There are newer versions available in a thread on XDA, just search for it.
Still, I'd recommand using (open-)pdroid. You need to patch your ROM for this, but it's better in pretty much any regard.

Is (open)pdroid even possible for the stock rom (4.1.1 version)? Autopatcher only supports openpdroid for 4.1.2 and up.
I would LOVE (open)pdroid for the Oppo stock rom!

Don't know, so far I successfully patched PAC, while Carbon is currently failing for me.
I personally have trust issues with LBE, since it needs root and isn't opensourced, but if that's of no concern, one might as well use it.

There's a permission app for the Xposed framework, don't know how good that works, though, never tried so far.

PAC works wonderful with pdroid
@S.D.Richards I know of LBE, but don´t really trust it either (same reason as you)
I read somewhere that Oppo will be upgrading the Find 5 to 4.2, but I do not know when.
As for the Xposed framework, I haven't heard of it... Have to google it

the patcher for pdroid doesn't support custom ROMs, but if things aren't too different, it might be able to patch it properly

I found it too, some time ago, but pdroid patcher fails.. it does detect the stock Oppo rom as AOSP 4.1.1. Perhaps i have the wrong version of the patcher, I will keep looking.

Try Xprivacy.

Xprivacy works like a charm

[ROM][ICS][P7310]P7510XABLPL_P7510UELPL clean port v2[2012-08-16]

This is a clean port of the US P7510 firmware that was released very recently.
For screenshot, go here: http://blog.apedroid.com/2012/08/official-ics-from-p7510-running-on-p7310.html
Downloads
Version 2: https://hotfile.com/dl/167367272/873eb0f/P7510XABLPL_P7510UELPL_for_P7310_v2.zip.html
Version 1: https://hotfile.com/dl/167139991/1ccdcd2/P7510XABLPL_P7510UELPL_for_P7310.zip.html
Changelog
Version 2 - Fixed low power mode charging animation. Changed all P7510 to P7310 in build.prop except fingerprint. Rooted out-of-the-box.
Version 1 - First release. The only things changed is kernel, kernel modules and one line added build.prop (to fix screen rotation).
Instructions
- Flash with Clockwork recovery (I use 6.0.0.8 from the CM9 thread but most versions should work).
- Remember to wipe!
- For me the first boot is with completely black screen but I can hear the boot sound. After a while it reboots and this time the screen is on and the bootanimation can be seen. No idea if it will do the same on all devices. Do not panic, just wait it and it should reboot (at least it does for me).
- Compass does not work correctly, likely due to the different screen rotation on our device but it never worked in official 3.2 anyway so I guess we're used to it not working.
- HDMI is 90 degrees rotated.
Everything done at your own risk, as usual...

I used the ICS kernel source (GT-P7510_ICS_Opensource_Update2.zip) from Samsung and compiled it using the supplied samsung_p5wifi_defconfig without doing any changes. Seems like all the p5/p5wifi bits are in place in the p4/p4wifi kernel source.
I've tried to keep it as clean as possible. I'm sure others will root, deodex and tweak it later.
I might do one for the P7300 using the italian P7500 firmware if time allows.

Very grateful for all your work and knowledge sharing for the gt8.9 7300/10.

Stupid question: the screen shot indicates that device id is p7510. Would that confuse some apps, market, or CWM recovery, or flashable zips ?

Pdroid?

Reading about pdroid and from what I gather, you can't use it with our stock ROM even if you have root. Any devs or more knowledgeable people who can tell me how to compile a stock rooted ROM that includes pdroid?

or... for that matter, why is it that none of the roms seem to be integrating pdroid/openpdroid?
I have tried the autopatcher on several different roms, and none have patched properly.
I feel like this is a very good feature, but I am starting to feel as if I am in the minority.
Have I missed any roms with pdroid in them?
Maybe its still too buggy to be integrated into a ROM - regardless, I'm going to see if I can get something going tonight when I have a few hours. I've never compiled Roms before tho so I doubt I'll be successful. If I am I'll find a way to share it

I have patched Primerunner rom, PA rom and Steve's PUB rom with OpenPdroid and Autopatcher through ApG
Don.t think Collegedev has pushed Pdroid to 4.2.1 in Autopatcher yet but am sure openpdroid and pdroid are now interacting on how to move it forward...
Steve's Pub rom 5th Feb..fully patched no errors.....Primefrunner and PA.2.99 patched with 1 or 2 error fixes but successfully patched..
I'm running Steve's Pub rom patched with Openpdroid and this is an Antutu score for reference ...running very smooth

Above is link for rom use Krait version
Here is the patches for Steve's pub rom
You will also need Pdroid manager apk to control and monitor..
Remember YOU do this because YOU want to
It's working perfect for me
So it wouldn't be possible to patch stock rooted 4.2.1? Or the upcoming 4.2.2? Only aokp and aosp?

i looked for a few threads about pdroid and i still don't get how i make this thing work on cm10.1 or paranoid android or other roms.
I'm also interested in integrating openpdroid or pdroid, does anyone have opinion between the two projects?
Also in the same vein, the fugumod kernel on Galaxy Nexus looks really good. A similar hardened kernel would be nice to see on Nexus 4, unless one exists already?

OK, I made it and it works!
1) Download mako rom from link above.
2) Download gapps.
3) Download those 2 attached files.
4) Move all files to phone storage.
5) Make a nandroid backup.
6) Full wipe.
7) Flash by this order:
* Rom
* Gapps
* ....restore.zip (attached file)
* ...update.zip (attached file)
8) Wipe dalvik cache
9) Reboot
10) Install from play store the PDroid Manager
That's is.
hmm

THIS. very interested in 4.2.2. I am using the mysterious aokp 4.2.2 right now, and I LOVED pub, but I don't like downgrading. As frustrating as that may be sometimes... case in point, DANG I really miss AVRCP. driving around and my jvc head unit always says 'no name'
I guess my main question is why are more developers not integrating this into their roms? Seems like a valuable security enhancement.
(Please, don't get me wrong. I am not complaining, and I love and appreciate the work that goes into development. I am genuinely curious if their is some reason preventing integration.)
Finally got open pdroid to patch successfully on both mysterious aokp 4.2.2 2/19 release, and on pa 3.0. happy happy camper. Facebook messenger now says I am most definitely not at another girl's house when I message my girlfriend. jk of course.

How do I run auto patcher on Win 7 without the ApG tool
Hi,
I downloaded the latest ApG tool from here: forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31648393&postcount=690
I had already installed the latest JDK/JRE along with Cygwin on my PC (with some help from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28196231&postcount=104).
However, when I run ApG, it insists on downloading Java and Cygwin once again! The total download it wants to make is some 250 MB. While the size of the download is not an issue, I do want to know why ApG is insisting on downloading something that has already been installed. Is there some mistake with my installation? Or has the ApG team missed out on this basic error check?
Apart from this, if I want to auto patch a ROM using auto patcher on Win 7 (WITHOUT ApG), how do I go about it? Like I said, I already have Java and Cygwin installed on my machine.
Would appreciate any help or guidance on this topic.
Thanks in advance!
Does anyone know of any other thread on this topic? I've not been able to find other threads in Q&A related to openpdroid.

I think the reason the Apg tool downloads it's own copy of Java and cgwin is because it was designed to be a stand alone solution. I've been using it since it started supporting 4.2 based roms and it works great. Sorry I can't help with patching a rom without using the tool. It would probably be easier to install Ubuntu in a virtual machine than to figure it out using cgwin.
There is an openpdroid thread in the main android section of these forums. Sorry i cant get you a link right now as I'm on my phone and searching isn't really practical from the xda app.
I guess I'll just have to go ahead and let the app do its magic the way it wants . Thanks anyways for your response. I did think about the VM solution, but that seemed not worth the effort. I'll post a better solution if I find one (on installation without the tool).

Not specific to slim bean, but there are a few things you have to check:
1. Is your ROM odex or deodex. The camera here is the odex version.
2. I think you will have a lot of FC trying some of the features unless you also grab seccamera.jar from the framework.
3. Many times the camera is also tied to the gallery, so you may also need that apk (and all associated files)
If you still want to try to install this and see what happens, you need to open the zip and use a root explorer app to put the two files in the system/app folder. You may also need to fix the permissions after copying. After that, restart the phone and see if it works.
EDIT:
Even with all the extra files I can't get it to work, there are probably other modifications that need to happen before it would work on a different system.
There are quite a few libraries needed (18 libarc*.so and at least 10 others), so it's not an easy port.

The camera (as well as a number of other features such as IR Blaster, temp/humid sensors, etc.) require the touchwiz framework in order to work. This means that they will not work on ANY AOSP roms. This includes, AOKP, CM, Slimbean, etc. They will only work on roms that run a touchwiz framework.
As far as porting goes, it would require a ton of modifications require access to drivers and libraries which samsung has not made available in order to complete a port. Nothing is impossible so I won't go as far as saying it won't be done, but it will be extremely difficult and time consuming so many developers have been discouraged from even attempting this. Only time will tell if we'll ever get these things ported.
Thanks for sharing the your info on this, I won't be sitting around waiting for a port sometime soon then!

A massive pity really... I may dump Google Edition, or perhaps find a 3rd party camera that can do the Picture-In-Picture feature.... which I love.

This looks like a problem with an Xposed module. The posts I highlighted below are all from today and they all have the same problem. If that's the case the thread doesn't belong here. That's why I ask. Troubleshooting problems and not posting your phone's configuration is completely pointless. Hence your confusion as to why I'm asking a valid question followed up immediately by another user who has no problems whatsoever with the Google Play Services in question.

Interesting, I'm running an HTC M8(GPE), latest Xposed, No GEL module but the latest Gravitybox and a few other mods. Latest Google App update FCs. Downgrading allows it to function properly.
Are you running any of the same mods I am? Check screenshot.

Updated my Xposed GEL Settings from 2.3.4 to 2.3.6 Solved my problem. My modules are Ogyoutube , Gel settings, greenify and gravitybox. I had 2.3.4 Gel settings when i first updated google. I had to restore nandroid backup since things got messy for me. Then i updated google again before i had xposed sdk installed on my nexus 6. Flashed the sdk installed GEL without activating the module, everything was until i did activate it. I disabled Xposed installer through TWRP recovery, updated GEL to 2.3.6 and now everything is working perfect for me.

Negative. I and several others have been experiencing this since Wednesday and do not use Xposed. There are many posts in Chroma, Bliss, Benzo with this exact issue.

No, it doesn't seem as if it is affecting stock.
My guess is that it's bumping up against something in AOSP.

im using stock 5.1 and stock kernel and i had those FC issues. I recommend to anyone having those issues:
1. Disable Xposed via twrp using terminal command like it says right here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/xposed-lollipop-stuck-bootloop-t3055816
2. Update every module to lastest version.
3. Delete disable file at /data/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/conf/ with root explorer to able xposed to work again.
Solved my problem.

im using terminus rom, which was updated with the newest code yesterday from aosp, and im using play services v 7.5.65, and i dont have this issue. my guess is that its not aosp code doung it, but other code thats in those roms thats causing the issue.

Yeah. It's really odd. No one really wants to dig deeper into it, but it's definitely a problem with writing/reading the mobile location in memory.

new banks gapps, flash them
I wish this thread would gain more traction, it saddens me to see my current ROMs thread get saturated by posts about this issue when its been identified that it is not a ROM problem.

The worst part about this is the new play services work perfectly fine on the stock rom. The only roms that seem to have problems are AOSP based roms. The developers of all of the AOSP roms have said over and over that it's not the rom and that it's the new play services causing the issue. But if play services works fine on the stock rom and not on AOSP roms then how is it play services that's the problem? So that, to me, tells me that it's something that needs either fixed in AOSP source code or something needs changed in the rom config to work with the new play services, right?
I have flashed back and forth like 20 times between stock and AOSP based roms all weekend to test this and I never get the problem on stock. It's always just the AOSP based roms. For now I've managed to stay on chroma with play services 7.3 without it auto-updating, but I'm betting that will be short lived.

[Q] Marshmallow stock AOSP (or near-AOSP) ROM choice

Hi guys
I'm searching for an Android 6 ROM for Mako that:
Is as stock as possible
Is as bug-free as possible
Works with Xposed (I'm reading around that at this point not all of the MM ROMs do?)
Which one do you guys recommend? I'm confused, there seem to be a lot of variants out there, each one with little differences and nuances... can anyone recommend the best choice(s) for the above requirements?

Chroma is generally considered to be a close to stock stable Rom. Don't know about xposed tho, since the dev doesn't want discussion about it in his thread.

what you look for is fake nexus rom, problem you cant root it, so no xposed.
you can try others though they all have options built-in and have root, so no idea why you will use xposed on those.

I've used a heavily customized ROM for a long time (Euphoria) but now I wanted to try the stock + xposed + GravityBox combo, see if I liked it better. So I was searching for a near-stock (so it doesn't interfere with GB)
