Flash a custom recovery like CWM and try with that.
If it still doesn't work then format your cache partition using CWM, that should fix it.

If after wiping cache, your phone reboots, then its "normal".Same happens with my s4 and my nexus 4.
In order to change CSC, in now days you must be root.Sorry for misunderstanding, but your phone is under BTU or DBT?
If you are rooted try the application https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.manniakk.cscselector&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5tYW5uaWFray5jc2NzZWxlY3RvciJd
,tick the box (root enabling) and check your current CSC status (you can check it through stock recovery as well)

About the CSC i know this part need to be root for use CSC select then i can change the CSC and need to make a wipe factory/data of it
The problem is only even i install custom recovery for wipe the cache partition => he stuck.

Hello, i have got a problem with the stock recovery of the S4 i-9505 the Wipe Cache Partition dont work, always when he reboot..
Hi,
I think I have the same problem with the same ROM XXUAMDM (DBT). When I try to wipe the Cache Partition the phone shows for a while the android logo and then reboots. I had a Galaxy S3 before and after pressing the start button to wipe the cache it just showed the messages:
-- Wiping Cache
Formatting /Cache...
Cache Wipe Complete.
I personally didn't even tried to flash another ROM because I wasn't sure I could recover from a Soft Brick. I would be very interested in finding a solution. I ask if flashing a PIT file could help?

Hello,
Yeah, i got this problem just after to started to flash and root or reset counter at 0 with triangle away.
The problem can't be resolved for now i think so... i searched since 3 full days, nothing.
Even if you flashing with a PIT file he can't help you the Stock recovery is broken a bit from the Wipe cache partition.
I'm not even sure all of this is due at the PIT file who make this bug to the recovery cache partition
The cache parition don't work well. So he still have always or sometimes the old code CSC- on the Recovery. By example the XXUAME2 BTU (U-K) then i flash on the STOCK MDM DBT (GERMANY), i noticed the CSC-code don't change he stay on CSC-BTU (U-K) when i starting the phone at select language by default.
I just found a trick to wipe the cache but he don't work always, with the CSC:
I have a STOCK XXUAME2 BTU (U-K) the after I tryed to flash the Stock rom MDM DBT (GERMANY), then I gone gone on Recovery Stock and Wipe Data/Factory x1 time, then i Wipe the Cache Partition x1 time and he reboot, before he try to reboot i remove the battery behind when the screen is dark. Then I restart in Recovery Stock one more time. I Wipe Cache Partition one more time and let it reboot the phone. After this the CSC-code may change into the new rom stock flashed. It don't work always but it may fix temporaly the problem of the CSC and the Wipe Cache Partition would work. (PS: he don't work each time... but it's the way i found, waiting for people found the problem)
Edit: this can't solve really the problem of the Wipe cache partition... someone have idea?

I think that's the bugs on samsung stock recovery ?
one more with this problem!!

Try flashing PIT and stock firmware at the same time, using odin3.04. Don't use any pre-rooted or modified roms. Use the PURE stock roms which can be found at http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9505
After that, enter stock recovery and wipe data and cache. Phone will reboot. Flash stock rom again and see if there's anymore problems.
Edit: When and how did the cache partition problem happen? Sorry couldn't understand what happen in 1st post. Is the cache problem gone when u flash stock rom AND never perform any root process or CSC change?

There is no way to remove the apps without rooting your phone.
...
Is it behaving something like this?
(my first post so i can't link but paste this on the end of youtube)
watch?v=8Ypsm5xflVQ
Hard to find a video on someone wiping their cache partition on an s4 :silly:
Mine is behaving like the one above, and i was previosly on a pre rooted XXUBMEA but i now on stock firmware without root.
Behaving a bit diffrent if compared to the S3 who wiped the cache then you had to reboot i manualy.

try flashing jvu from samfirmware with odin3 v1.82 and pit512 with repartition
after you get PASS, restart the phone and wait until some processes will complete, the phone will automatically reboot, then take out & insert back the battery.
after that continue as usual with the flashing of custom kernel like semaphore 2.5.0.
now you'll be able to install custom roms

Hope this can halp you, but you need to root your phone and some knowlege with abd. And when root first backup /EFS folder before you try anything.
Bye and good luck.
Havent done any root yet because is only 3month old. Everytime I try to boot into recovery my little green android says no command..error on any option including 'reboot system now',but it boot normally.. If I try to wipe partition it says error.. is this a bug of the 4.2.2 ? while am still waiting the que on new firmware 4.3, is it a good suggestion or recommended to wipe cache partition and wipe data/factory reset before and after getting the new update?
These are the option on screen says:
-reboot system now
-apply update from ADB
-apply update from external storage
-wipe data/factory reset.
-wipe cache partition.
-apply update from cache

Thank you for answers.
@leandrolutz - It was one that Quarx built, from 02.12.13 CM.
@thekguy - I had to flash SBF, now I'm on Android 2.2.2. I'll follow your instructions. Just have one question, should I install CWM or TWRP? I follow guide, in which I installed update-recovery.zip from TWRP after wiping all date except those on sd-card. then After that, I couldnt get into new recovery. Is this right order to update to KitKat?

SBF, root, 2ndinit. Then you install CM10 (4.1), reboot, install CM10.2 (4.3), reboot, install update-recovery.zip, REBOOT (without any wipe), install CM11 (4.4).
DO you want to use ART or DALVIK? :highfive:

You will need to use twrp, the one included with the respective build. From 4.3, you should flash recovery zip, reboot without wiping, and from recovery you should be able to flash kk
There's a button dedicated to thanks

Thanks all for your help. I installed 4.3 and after that flashed recovery where I made a mistake and wipe dalvik cache after instaling (did this before yours answers):crying:. After restart, I couldnt enter twrp recovery (as soon as I enter defy restarts), only bootmenu and stock recovery from there. Luckily I havent wiped system so I still have 4.3 installed. Then I tried to install recovery from GooManager (didn't make it), stock recovery where I get message: "Failied to verify whole-file signature. Signature verification failed. Installation aborted".
Is there any way to install twrp without having to do all from the begining (sbf, root...)?
Hey guys, problems again. Didnt find way to install recovery so I decided to do all steps (sbf, root, 10.1...) again.
First I entered bootloader, connected usb, RSD lite and flashed same sbf as I did few days ago. Unlike last time, this time it wont flash, RSD did his job (erasing flash memory, flashing code group...) and when it comes to reboting, in RSD is written finished, but defy didnt turn on, not even motorola logo on screen. Take out battery, try to get into stock recovery and bootloader (volume down and up+power on), but still nothing. Then tried other sbf, 3 od them (retail French) but same thing happened every time, dead screen). Only thing that points that tel.is alive is white led that turns on when I connect it to PC.
I cant understand why 2 days ago when I flashed sbf, everything was fine and this time it refuses do complete. Only difference is that this time it was installed Android 4.3 and last time 4.2.2.
Any suggestions.
If your current sbf isn't working, try dfp 231 or a sbf newer than your current one. It should get you at least to stock recovery, from where you can wipe data and revive your defy.
From 4.3, just flash update recovery, don't wipe or flash anything else. Reboot, and enter recovery once again. Now install 4.4 and it should work
Although, that should not have occurred just by dalvik wipe. Make sure the 4.3 build you use is recent
FYI you could have fixed recovery by extracting and overwriting bootmenu folder from zip

Hey thekguy, thank you very much. I managed to revive my defy with 4.5.1-134 DFP-231 Retail.en.EU CEE and now I'm using Android 2.3.6. I'm reading another topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1820282 where it says that after flashing 4.5.1-134 DFP-231 Retail.en.EU CEE, it should than be flashed with rooted SBF 4.5.1-134 DFP-231 Retail.en.EU CEE Rooted SBF.
Should I also flash this second SBF or go directly to 4.3?
Thanks again.

but ive read somewhere a way to solve it and im trying it while we im writting
update: dont try this method .. it didnt work for me
you need to install twrp or cwm
you need an app to make a nandroid backup
1-make nandroid backup
2-reboot into recovery
3-restore ( only restore cache ) and this should fix it
Try this;
Install TWRP 2.8.X.X.
Go to "Wipe"
Go to "Advanced Wipe"
Check "Cache" partition
Klick "Repair or change file system"
Klick "ext4"
This should fix cache mounting issues. Have been told from TWRPs Note 3 maintainer that it's caused by secure wipe. He's disabled it on 2.8.x.x. I don't think any CWM version has this option.

Format card...and nothing happening. How fix this? Please help me!
Find the I9505 PIT file and flash it, along with a ROM, through Odin. The PIT file will wipe and then partition the internal storage. Also, if you are installing an Android 5.0.1 ROM, it will take up to 30 minutes before you're able to use it, so when it boots, don't touch it.
It's good files pit I9505XXUHOA7 5.0.1 Lollipop Germany (Leaked) ?? JFLTE_EUR_OPEN.pit ?? If not good, please give me a files PIT for I9505.
Then enter custom recovery Philz Touch v6.59.0 and wipe cache, wipe dalvik/art cache, factory reset, clean to install a new room, after flash rom
I9505XXUHOD7_I9505YBTHOD7_I9505XXUHOD7_HOME.tar.md5 (I9505YBTHOD7 5.0.1 Lollipop Germany (Black Edition) DBT) with ODIN v3.10 and JFLTE_EUR_OPEN.pit
In ODIN marked: Auto Reboot, Re-Partition and F.Reset Time. It's good ??? After flash 30 min no touch my phone, it's ok? Sorry for my english!
After 30 min...my phone restart and bootloop again ((
You live in Romania. The correct ROM for your device, based upon your location, is here. It's a Romanian Black Edition ROM. The PIT file can be found here.
When using a PIT file, it's not necessary to flash a custom recovery to wipe the internal storage, as the PIT file partitions the internal storage. To do that, it has to wipe the storage anyway. Your settings in Odin appear to be ok, so have at it.
P.S. When you do decide to install a custom recovery again, use TWRP. Both Philz and Clockworkmod are no longer being updated.
I try rom romania black edition with pit...nothing changed, phone restart and bootlop. ((
Take your phone to the service center.
Ok,, thx
