Hey guys, I am having an issue perhaps someone has encountered before. I searched but came up with a lot of results that were (seemed) unrelated.
First off, the past week or so I've been having battery issues.. charging very slow and draining very fast. I have been running CM10.1 nightlies for a long time and this issue just cropped up.
Well, about 5 days ago or so (maybe even longer, I don't connect to my computer much) I can no longer get a USB connection to my computer. I have tried on 2 different macs and a win7 PC, with the original USB cable and about 5 others with no luck. The phone charges fine when plugged into the computer, but never is a USB data connection.
My first step to resolve this was to flash back to a stock rom, which didn't help (and now I can't hear out of my earpiece on phonecalls).
I wanted to do a *complete* stock restore, but I can't get into fastboot or adb (although adb does work over the network).
Do you guys have any suggestions or possibly a link to a thread I may have missed that could help?
Thanks!
Maybe your storage mode has changed, try Drivedroid from the Playstore which also allows you to change the Mode from MTP to USB-Connection

Thank you for your response. I tried Drivedroid and was unable to make any connection (other than charging) using any of the USB Modes they provided. I am starting to wonder if this may be a hardware failure.
Yes maybe, there is connection for just charging and the one for USB is broken or something like that

try one of these cables.

i had the exact same issue and was able to successfully get a connecting using it. once i got it going, i was able to clean flash stock 4.2.2 and all is good now.
my nexus wouldn't be detected on any machine. i tried 5 or 6 different computers including 2 macs and 5 different usb cables. cables from blackberry, cameras, original nexus 4 cable, original nexus 7 cable, samsung cable.
Did you try connecting your phone in recovery or fastboot?

Download trickster mod from play store and see if fast-charge is enabled. If so, disable it, you should have MTP back again. Also reinstall the drivers from the Nexus 4 toolkit and turn USB debugging on / off or toggle it. Should wake it up.

Bricked I9000?
This phone goes only in download mode, but the pc is not recognize the phone and yes i have latest usb drivers installed. I have tried every usb port on my win 7 pc and my other windows xp pc.
I have tried everything but nothing, so this is my last try, to get help here.
Can someone tell me what to do?
Or is this just bricked and thats it.
You're saying your pc does not recognize the phone, but does Odin? Make sure to kill Kies process too.
Sent from horseback.
since your phone goes into download mode, flash a stock gingerbread rom via odin and your phone will boot again.
Hope this helps
got this problem too some days before. even Odin and dl mode did't work.
1)what rom was on the phone?
2) did you tried several cables and pc's?
3)maybe there is dirt in your USB port on your phone. so take pressure sprayer and clean it. cause that helped me. now it works again.
wish you good luck.

I can only apologise

Try turning on USB Debugging mode. USB was working with CM only when it was ON for me.
Cheers mate I had to keep turning debugging on and off whilst connected to my PC. Thank you for help

Hello everyone.
I don't know since when or how, since it has been always working for me on my win7 desktop, but when I tried to connect my phone to a new Latptop (with win8) during the holidays at home, it wouldn't detect it as an MTP device.
Well, it doesn't recognise it at all, unless I put it in debug mode, then it's under unknown devices as "Nexus 4" with a failed driver installation.
But I need to get MTP working to back some things up.
I'm running AOKP's Milestone for 4.3 and franco's kernel 193.
I checked if fastcharge was enabled: No
Switched it on and back off: Nothing
Reflashed the Kernel: Nothing
Reflashed AOKP (including the stock Kernel): Still not recognised
Of course several reboots included. Tried all slots and different cables. The cables tested all work for my N7 on Kitkat.
I had issues before with franco's kernel not really disabling fastcharge when I clicked it but I managed to fix that by rebooting or switching it back on and off again. Also this doesn't really give me any clues as I reflashed AOKP which comes with a different kernel that doesn't even support fast charge..
I'm kind of clueless now, I urgently need to back up things from my phone which I now did via Airdroid, but I also need to get MTP back working for bigger files.
Thank you very much for your help!
It would be nice if someone had a suggestion before I try going back to stock.
turn off driver signature verification(ask google how to do)
install universal naked drivers.
there you go
Will it then only be recognised in debug mode? Or normal as well? Since it doesn't even appear in device manager right now when in regular USB mode

I had this problem. Try deleting all android drivers and MTP drivers from your PC using USBDeview (google it). Also try connecting to a different PC to see if the phone can connect at all. Finally, you may need to unlock the lock screen before attaching. After that it connects no problems!

USBDeview did the trick. Thanks a lot.
Okay so i have a nexus 7 right? yes, but im fairly custom to rooting and all that stuff. Well im not a nub at this stuff but i need help once in a while XD, i just got the thing to turn on again i let it die completely and the charging bug decided that it wouldn't charge. I ended up jump starting the battery and now it turns on but now i plug it in it turns on right? yes it does but now i can get access to any data thats on it. (P.S there isnt any data on it since i had to wipe cyanogenmod 6.0.1 off it) and theres only twrp recovery on the tablet, i can access twrp and the boot loader (unlocked obviously) but i cant access fast boot or push files via adb. The charging port is still good on it i know that we had it tested on a friends tablet and it worked fine. OTG usb doesn't work either i cant seem to get data on the tablet but it turns on when i plug it in, it doesnt charge when plugged into a wall adapter or a pc it just turns on when plugged into a pc. Any and all info is appreciated. (sorry for my spelling errors if there is any, also i am on linux so i dont need drivers as far as i know, i also tried on windows and its a no go the device doesnt show up on either os)
nexus 7 2012 btw

Thanks for the help but sadly ive tried that...
As the device can go into fastboot and twrp with adb and otg without data transfer being possible I'd say most likely the port is broken.
Just to be sure no adb or fastboot commands work at all right? even those which don't transfer files. If they work then your partition layout is messed up which could be fixed

Did you try to charge the N7 via wall adpater or the pc? Did you use the genuine charger that comes with the device? What does it look like when you plug it into your pc? Did it show up as a mtp device (or any kind of device) ?
Try charging the N7 with genuine charger, or via pc. Make sure you install the driver for the N7 (go google it) before plugging in. Judging by your status, it appears that you're having a defective charging port or mainboard. Usually you'll end up sending it to the manufacturer to get them replaced (hope that it won't happen :3 ).
Have you used the push files and adb function on TWRP? To the best of my knowledge, these errors don't come about often in TWRP. If you don't know to use it, look it up on Google or the Xda threads. One more thing, losing fastboot is pretty rare with N7, so if you're not sure whether the fastboot is VANISHED, go to this link: http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...1477-guide-nexus-7-factory-image-restore.html
You can contact me for more insight if all that doesn't satisfy you: [email protected]
Glad that I could help.

I have a 6P running on android 8.1 SuperXE rom. And when i tried to run Substratum and it asked me to download the Andromeda app to make it work so I did. Then i went on my Desktop downloaded the script for that followed all the instructions. Now after running the script a couple times my phone no longer works with adb. It is not a computer problem because I have tried to plug it in on multiple computers that have the right drivers installed and none of them work. It seems to be a problem with my phone.
I have tried factory resetting my phone uninstalling and reinstalling drivers. Nothing seems to work.
Has anyone ever run into a similar situation?
Also the error that shows up is USB device not recognized, "the last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it." It says this on both my windows computers, and my Linux laptop. So I know it has nothing to do with the phone cord or the computer.

It's probably the chord try another one. And if you root your phone with magisk you won't need Andromeda and Android pay still works. I'm on SuperXe also and don't have any issues. It's pure stock with some add-ons and customization.
Check with another cable or clean flash a stock rom via fastboot to see if the issue still persists, mm,n or o, it doesn't matter.
Edit: first go to Dev options and reenable USB debbuging and set USB configuration to mtp, may a phone reboot is required.
Edit: to reset the USB debugging authorization is worth a try too.

The first time I installed 8.1 it said it required Andromeda to run, but after I wiped my phone and re installed 8.1 it worked without it. Which was weird.

I went out and got a new cord and now it is working thanks for the advice. It's weird though because nothing was wrong with the cord before this incident.
But thanks for the advice it was the cord I have a new one and no problems thus far.
Not to hijack this thread but I am having a similar issue. My nexus 6p and an old Nexus 6 will not connect to any computer. I have used different cables and still no dice. I have a Nexus 9 that connects fine. Both Nexus 6 and 6p charge on the cables but will not connect to computer. Any thoughts or suggestions. Again have tried different usb ports in same computer 3 different computers and multiple cables.

???
May start from scratch with the drivers, download usbdeview (simple Google search) and get rid of all nexus and or android installed drivers. Reset USB debugging and authorization on the phones, set to mtp, do a reboot and do a fresh connect.

Neither my Nexus 6p nor the 6 show up in usbdeview. Only the Nexus 9. Tried revoking. Have done factory reset set to mtp turned debugging off then on restarted phone different cables still doesn't show up in usbdeview.
Also the point of all this was to try to get this to work with my Mavic Pro drone. Which also does not recognize my 6p and thinking about this now my car also does not auto launch Android auto like it used to and in fact does not work at all. Phone charges from usb but does not seem to communicate.
Faulty phone maybe?
Is there a way to get off Oreo without having usb access? Not currently rooted and the apk's I have tried seem not to work.

It's strange that your n6 and n6p both don't communicate.
If you got TWRP installed you can root and flash what ever you want with flashfire. Or with TWRP itself. But never ever flash bootloader and radio with flashfire, it isn't necessary all the time anyway.
Or is your n6p completely stock ???
Uhh, I do miss my Nexus 6
