[Q] Sick of the lag, what do I need to do? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I searched a bit but didn't find much. I am unlocked and rooted, but stock ROM. I just wiped and reinstalled 4.2.2, but the lag is till there!!! Can this be fixed by flashing a different kernel? I don't mind the stock ROM, but if I can flash a different ROM and get rid of the lag then I'll do that too! Thanks in advance!!

I'm using stock; what works form me is enabling developers option by tapping build number a couple of times. And in developers option scroll down under apps. And in apps background processes limit I selected no back ground processes. Everything has gotten faster for me. If anybody has another way let me know too.

I'll give it a shot! I'm willing to try anything at this point!

OK cool, and if you figure out a different way to make it faster let me know. I use this method to make google chrome a bit faster since loading websites would drag. It made it a bit faster.

Disable Google Currents and any other apps you don't need. See what apps are running in the background and get rid of the ones you don't really need, including widgets. Have only one user account. Turn off animations.

Also set animations in developer options to 0.5. Stock lags IMO. I would back it up and try a different rom. Rasbean is pretty fast.

Liberated Aria FR007 speed?

Is anyone else having the issue of the FR007 being slow and laggy? When I scroll through all my apps, there is a huge lag. And the sliding of the home screens have some lag in it too. Is it just my aria or something that I did wrong while rooting/flashing? If there's a way to fix this, please tell. I really like FR007, but am thinking about switching back to R012. Thanks in advance.

Simply put, even with the stock kernel, no.

Did you do a full wipe before flashing the new rom
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
Yeah. I did a nandroid backup and then wipe data. And then flashed.
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
No lags here. May some service or app working in background?
their is some noticeable lag, the stock rom from att is deff faster but isn't nearly as clean ;(
OP, I had the same problem, ended up going back to R012. I was sad.
I was using CM6.1 rc2 until my apps started closing (dolphin browser hd, Rom gripper, etc.) Then I switched to liberated fr007 and haven't had one issue. The only thing that ever gave me a lag was overclocking widget, live wallpaper, and using an alternative home screen (ADW. Launcher, Home++)
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
Yeah it lags for me. Especially if I use Pandora radio
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
Try this.
Go to market and get Overclocking Widget.
Put the widget anywhere on your homescreen.
Tap it, grant it SU permissions, you will probably have to tap it again for it to display.
Now on the 2nd slider that says Maximum set it all the way to the right.
Uninstall the widget, whichever method you prefer and the lag problem will probably go away.
* uninstalling the widget makes it where it won't automatically slow your phone down when it hasn't been in use for a while, which means you have to mess with the slider every time you unlock your phone.
** this may also have a negative impact on your battery, but if your like me and charge your phone every night it shouldn't be a problem.
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
You shouldn't be using an overclocking widget or setcpu with the stock fr rom- it will result in more lag and unpleasantness than you started with. The stock kernel simply doesn't support over or underclocking.
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
It doesn't support OVER clocking or UNDER clocking, but setting the processor works just fine--there is no issues, that's what saved my battery life actually & the phone runs great.
There is no need to set the processor with a third party app if you are using the stock kernel. Hell, even cm6.1 defaults to 600 making setCPU optional. I saw on the other thread that you think developers too often blame apps for malfunctions but I think you will find that devs and contributors are just as sick of newbies spreading misinformation and not listening to sound advice and attributing their own folly to wrongly defamed software. If I were anyone reading this thread I would encourage you to be wiser than I and let this, and other new troll threads die before they begin.

until we get a decent kernal that supports OC, you're just messing things.
I just end up running slower and stuttering in many apps.

Blandroid on N1

I just noticed, blandroid rom on the rom manager menu, has anyone tried it on N1? I'm using cm7 Rc4 and I know you'll all say stick with it, but I'm still curious.

I noticed it a couple of weeks ago. It says it's a stable 2.3.3 with no bloatware. Sounds very intriguing...in fact so much so that I downloaded it, but have yet to flash it...lol.
Certainly tempting isn't it, is this a case of who goes first lmao, out of interest how big is it? I notice the cm7s are just over 80 mb.

Seems like a plain stock ROM, nice to see to be honest.
Noticed the same thing, but was wondering what all it supports, site doesn't say much. I.E. what kernel it has/supports, TB alert stuff like that.
Hopefully the dev comes and explains what all he's done.
Well, I flashed it, for like an hour then when back to cm7 using the recovery I made.
First thing, market didn't work.
Secondly it didn't have the extra apps cm7 has, which I expected, but I instantly missed theme chooser.
Thirdly it wiped my contacts list.

First. The market issue is probably a wipe issue as I had the same problem with two different MIUI GB ROMs.
Secondly. That would be the lack of bloatware mentioned above. It's like stock android, so not sure why you even flashed it if you wanted bloatware.
Thirdly. It didn't wipe your contact list you didn't sync with google, becaue all of your contacts are backed up there.
You know what, I knew that'd be the replies I got, to be honest I'm curious of any rom that 1might increase battery life, currently using 85% over 10hours!! And of course the dreaded wonk which is seemingly inherent with cm7.
I couldn't force Google to sync with my phone, all my contacts are stored with Google you're right there.
Btw how would I get the market back?

I think it is another keyboard app. When you go to change the keyboard, it lists something in all Asian symbols.
I just deleted it and I have not noticed any difference with how blandroid runs.
The wonk was almost fixed on latest release of cm7. If you don't have the latest version, try it.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
Nearly fixed isn't fixed. The problem is really dragging out and these stock ROMs are showing that its fixed with them. Wonking isn't the only issue at the moment either. There is still problems with the sound levels after docking the phone sometimes where its maximum level is halved etc.
CM is an ace project and I truly respect the guys and their efforts behind it, but CM7 is very buggy, and when it starts to affect the ability to take calls its hard to use it.
Oh! Thx for the reply. I got scared and ran back to cm7

What sort of battery life do you get and is there good support from the Dev?
I could go for no wonk
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
I like!
Went for this until the CM stable kills the wonk; now I may not go back. I haven't used it for long enough to know about stability. I think of it as pure AOSP, but already rooted (and a just a few essential CM goodies).
http://blandroid.org/about
So far, I haven't found anything missing I need.
And if you want a bit more eye candy and customization, just install launcher pro or adw.launcher from the market.
I give it thumbs-up!

Things That I Noticed In the Gingerbread Leak

1. The downloads app shows up in the app drawer.
2. When holding the power button and selecting shut down, the phone is put into hibernate mode. Pressing the power button to turn it back on yields very very short 2 second boot time. Do a battery pull to compare boot times. Option to turn this off is in Setting >> Applications
3. You must do a battery pull, hold down on the volume rocker, and then power to boot up into bootloader mode.
4. The animations are much smoother and different now.
5. When you receive a new message, a green and black number notificiation shows up on the messages icon on the homescreen.
6. The phone has just overall been going quicker.
Let me know if you guys noticed anything else?
Ihtfp69 said there should be an option in the settings to turn on/off "quick boot."

Why run this Rom when cm7s been on gb for months?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
I don't remember the original ROM having a restart option....
The "downloads" app has always been in the apps drawer on every gingerbread rom. Its a cool feature but it's useless unless you use the stock browser, I wish you could use it with any browser.
I tried CM7 a few times and it always ran like crap after about 12-24 hours and I had to take it off. I flashed OMFGB like two days ago and it runs great, except that it doesn't like to display my widgets some times (I'm using ADW EX).
I'm tempted to try out the leak, but I think I'll wait a few days until it gets tweaked more and/or has Sense >=2.0
OP, in regards to your hibernation question. There should be an option somewhere in the settings that allows you to enable/disable Fastboot. It's sort of like a hot restart.

some people like sense over ASOP. Gingerbread and sense seems like a good combination to me
well, i noticed everything you did but one other also... NETFLIX ISNT WORKING!!!! is there any way to fix this? it doesnt seem to work with any sense+gingerbread combos as im running the Kingdom rom and it still doesnt work any ideas?
Touchdown app works, the license app doesn't which sucks, no Netflix...

The leak has been great for me! Runs so much better than froyo did. Really smooth animations, and I like the fast boot option
Anyone else's Swype not working with the leak? That sucks. It does run well but I can't wait for the developers to get to work on it, and why no Sense 2.0?
sloow
I wish I knew why gingerbread/sense 3.0 is running so slow for me, Im killing off
Apps but I can barley squeeze out 100mb free memory...could this be a kernel
Holdup?
netflix seems to be having issues with other devices as well.
Something that I noticed is in froyo when I am in the messaging app and the screen times out I don't recieve notifications but I do with the update. Not sure if this is a setting I missed in 2.2 but either way I'm glad it works now.
FYI I use the stock messaging app and realize if I used Handcent it would not have been an issue but I prefer the stock app.
anyone else having an issue with Google Talk not working? It force-closes every time when trying to launch. Anybody know of a fix? Other than that, loving the Gingerbread experience so far.

Problems with every rom

I've tried many different roms such as jvo, jvh, jvp and jvq. I've tried darkys, juwes, gingerreal , f1, insanity and miui but they all have these problems after the phone has been 'up' for over a day. When I exit a game using home or back my launcher restarts.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
The same game and the same launcher always : maybe are not compatible.

You are using tw launcher ? If not, you should check your task killer program. Maybe you got the option "stAy in ram". If yes, choose it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1175514&highlight=launcher+restarts
I havent tried the stuff in this thread but it is interesting, and on the second page, there is a posted .apk that apparently solves it..
Like saphirrot said, if the launcher has a 'stay in mem' option, check it. I've done that with Launcher Pro and the launcher restart happens far far less.
It's just android freeing up ram for the game. It's a pain in the ass but better than not being able to run a game because of low memory.

I use super manager or astro manager. They have app managers and allow you to install .apk files. Super manager is great if you have root access as you can uninstall bloatware apps like aldiko, layar etc. Make sure to backup app just in case anything goes wrong.

Thanks guys I installed the apk and my launcher no longer restarts but apps still close even when I go off them using the home button so I can return to them in a minute and be where I left it. Is there any apk for this as it is frustrating when you go off an app for a minute only to find it's closed when u go back on it.

Nothing is wrong. It's running out of memory. Android shall release background tasks if foreground tasks need the memory. Since Gingerbread, you can no longer force most things to stay in memory so those features are mostly useless these days. Should have kept to one ROM and asked your question in its thread. Too many things to suggest to tune it properly really. Uninstalling system apps you don't use and trying different kernels are your last options.

This is completely unacceptable then, you can't even multitask. And after the phone has been 'up' for over 12 hours you can't even keep the dialer in memory! There must be a way around this. A smartphone should not take over 3 seconds to open the dialer.

I have never seen this problem before, and since it so several I have to assume that if other people had it, they would have posted about it.
That means that it is either due to a problem with your hardware, or due to something you are installing/configuring. I would do a full factory default then add apps back very slowly, one by one, doing some basic testing in between. That way you may be able to isolate the problem.
If it still happens right after the factory reset, take the phone to a service center.

I have seen people talk about it but the answers are since gingerbread apps get closed because of memory meaning that the dialer doesn't even stay in memory after the phone has been booted.for a while.

Nexus 7 Stuck scrolling up?

Hi, this has happened twice now.
Once on Facebook, and once on the Browser I think
What happens, is it seems like someone (a robot with really quick fingers) keeps flicking my screen up, so when I try to scroll down the page, it goes down a little bit and then goes straight back up, so it seems to "bounce" off the top of the page.
I have to keep closing things, pressing home button/back button lots, close apps etc and then it will stop.
What could be causing this? I hope I explained it well enough.
Thanks !
Anyone?
Are you rooted? If so, try restoring to stock or re-flashing the stock ROM. I don't really have any idea what could cause that scrolling issue, but if it continues, I would exchange/RMA your N7.
