Thanks ...I think its a good idea to have one location to look for updates and discuss. Thank you for making this rom for the nexus s! (Just kidding! Too soon?)

Too soon, too soon xD
good idea with this thread
haha yeah maybe your right that its to soon, but i read that drew (yes THAT drew) is getting out his update soon and miui also said that theyd have ics soon so i figuered better to soon than to late! ;D
i really want a full build!!! hardware acceleration is what i want but can't try in the sdk port ><
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
yeah, good idea mate..
hoping that this thread will not go under in discussions who has stolen the rom from who and so on.. simply updates - no discussion from who and why and how.
actually I run the ics port b12, quite good, only the market update crash-issue is ugly .. let's hope and wait for the devs to get ICS sooner mostly stable
i was using b12 as well, but then i swiched back to gb miui because of the market, whatsapp, sms (maximaum one page) and all the fcs...
but i fell madly in love with ics and i keep looking for roms for the nexus s all the time! ;D
I think drew should just upload now... he can get out the stable version later!
I have to satisfy my lust for ics! ;D

Way to go OP. I was following other threads here and, like many, I find it hard to find an update on what's happening without searching the internet up and down. Those other threads became laughable. Why would anyone send you hate mail for hopefully clarifying things with a consolidated thread. Good to see this.

Where, oh where, is our nexus s ics update? Any release date rumour?
Anyway, good thinking. Feels good to have a topic to go to.
koush's ROM seems doing fine except for camera and wifi according to him.
i hope he shares it soon eventhough it's not fully functional.

There will not be a stable ROM until the source is released. Not the source for the Galaxy Nexus but the actual source. That will happen when the OTA is released for your NS most likely. CYANOGEN will wait for real source as will the MIUI team.
You will see some adapted and modded ROMs based on the Galaxy Nexus code. Most likely they will have modified GB kernels I believe.
I would not be surprised to see OTAs for NS right after the Galaxy Nexus hits stores in the US, definitely b4 Christmas.

Say what you want about drew but at least he had no problem releasing half busted roms. Now that people are making source roms we are begging for them to at least give us a half busted rom while we wait but no one will ugh! I don't care if just the camera and wifi don't work! That's leaps and bounds above what were used to!

So you mean that google only released the source for the Galaxy nexus and not the actual source code for ICS 4.0? have they ever done that before?
Being a total Android n00b, I just finished converting my SE X10 mini pro from stock to MiniCM-2.1.9+ nAa-11 kernel, and now I want to go on taking care of my ZTE Blade, but as far as I have seen by now, development for the ZTE Blade is quite different.
The official stable CM7 seems to be stuck at 7.1.0 since autumn, somewhere it was mentioned that nightlies have been discontinued, I could not find any info on kernel development, and progress only goes on with builds called KANGs?
Has official CM7 development shifted to CM9 only?
Can someone explain please, what KANG means?
Which CM 7.2 KANG is the current recommendation (I read about targetBSP, BurgerZ, burstlam and sej7278) and what are the differences?
You can say these as unofficial nightlies built by other people with their own small modifications but with all the official CM updates.
The names you mentioned are the one who built them
The one that i found fastest was the burstlam build but they're all pretty similar....except..targetbsp's version is more like a vanilla version meaning using all official cm updates only no extra mods etc. s
CM7 is still being developed, the only thing that stopped were the nightly builds, think it was hd failure on the server or something. CyanogenMod recently took donations for new servers, so they should be back up & running soon.
KANGs are just versions built from CM7 source, but not by CyanogenMod. There isn't much real development going on with them. They're just more recent because the CM7 nightly builds stopped months ago.

Go for Burstlam's build. Has good options for UI customisation and also has lesser battery consumption.

Why is there TWO developemnt threads. Which is the one to use. Very confusing.
because this makes it easier to find which kind of development your searching for as original mean AOSP,GM9 , KERNELS, miui and other original stuffs and not only zipedited roms like touchwiz roms where the rom maker just added stuff they liked without buildning from scratch
It was done to separate real development threads from photoshop and winzip roms.
Read this: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/introducing-original-development-forums-for-more-devices/
And deal with it.
I don't like it, in my opinion. Real dev threads were naturally on the top of the development forums, its not like you had to go digging. Now its just multiple clicks to check on what ROMs are available and adds more forums to the 120341230123 amount of forums on XDA.
wanna know the difference with some funny screenshots? here you go

wrong logic mate!! both developers/cookers contribute to the community just in a different way...
Why checkrom evohd v3 is in original android dev section? It's samsung based rom!
There is only one original and that is Cyanogenmod (they build from scratch). The rest are samsung or CM9 derivates. Correct me if i am wrong

You're mostly right, but it's difficult where to draw the line. AFAIK AOKP for instance, also uses the AOSP source code, but incorporates many (if not all) CM9 features. So, is it based on CM9 or AOSP? You see what I mean?
I think it's safe to say that the original developers build their stuff from source (either pure AOSP or CM9 as a base), whereas most other developers use winzip (or extract APK's, but not using the source code). That's why I can understand why Checkrom is in the original section (using a self-made OTA tool). But it's mostly subjective and difficult to judge what goes where...
It is only confusing when it seems that certain roms should be in the opposite section and vice versa.

It would be nice if they were named . AOSP based Development, Samsung based development. The mix is all wrong at the moment.

Why is this thread in a development section?
Should be in general
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Moved to General, there is a portal post here about the issue.
Keep the discussion on topic and civilized and this thread will stay open.
Running make doesn't make (heh) your work original.
So if I went and grabbed the CM9 repo and built it my subsequent ROM wouldn't be original. If I'd made lots of changes to the source code then built it, it would be original.
How is it you lot struggle with what the word "original" means, I don't get it.
As for whichever idiot said "IT'S TOO MUNNY CLICKZ", what? It's one extra click you numpty.
CheckROM should be in Original. Why? Apart from being the first to materialize Kitchen on ROMS (Kudos to Leomar), the team do also have its own Kernel which is the DarkKnight.
Hi
I am looking for a ROM for my I9500, either in Android Development or Original Android Development,
that looks closest in look and feel to either 4.3 or 4.4 (Kitkat) without any crappy UI or theme.
I hate Samsung's TW UI.
I am looking for a pure Nexus kind of ROM, with least Bugs.
Is any such ROM available on XDA in Development OR Original Development?
Which is the most stable version of CM roms, for 4.3 and 4.4?
Thanks
Om

You really need to read through the forums to be honest. There are good 4.4 ROMS at the moment with nearly all features working but you need to read through the posts to see what everyone else is saying about the ROMS it's the only way you will find the best ROM for you.

Hello friends.
As all of us see, LG released their KitKat sources long time ago. Our great developers like @dr87 @Savoca @houstonn and others made it with Their hard work to merge them so we have two stable / nearly stable roms: Mahdi and PA. But what with other roms? Most of the roms are based on CM, so they still have bugs.. During months, CM doesn't seem to have done ANYTHING.
So my question is, how about to send a message (or spam, in any way u name it) by all of us to CM, to the maintainer? We have official support, but in fact it's "support without support" in my opinion. Maybe after these messages they would finally start to do something, because it's like they forgot about G2...
Regards.
EDIT: so we have a way to contact => https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/secure/Dashboard.jspa
now we should make a well, polite message so everyone would copy it and drop there.
Another way it would be to ask the maintainer directly https://plus.google.com/+RicardoCerqueira
EDIT2: I gave a comment to Ricardo on Google+ here https://plus.google.com/+RicardoCerqueira/posts/4dc8kVBYuTq feel free to do it as well
The best bet would be to create an improvement note at their so called "Bug Tracker" considering that they are doing this for free, this would be the most polite form.
I support this initiative, but today be entirely honest M6 for me is almost bug free, fast and battery efficient.
Up to date sources is great, but if a rom is working well, I don't care if the sources are old!

I personally had CM for some time, and it never was so stable as Mahdi R1 which i have now. Besides that, a lot of roms like Carbon or Slim can't be simply updated from CM sources, so they still have bugs.

Just to clarify, roms that are based on CM do not need CM to upgrade to 4.4.2 sources. The upgrade is done in the device tree / vendor files and kernel. The rom source does not need any changes and each rom maintainer for the G2 has the power to upgrade their rom to 4.4.2 G2 sources without CM doing anything, they just need to figure out the specific device tree bugs for each rom and fix them.
I am under the impression you think CM needs to upgrade in order for CM based roms to upgrade, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong :good:

apparently theres a bit of confusion, there was some one nightly where the rotation wasnt working with the jb baseband, (im gussing on that nightly he used the kk source ) because flashing the kk baseband on that build fixed the rotation issue, but im not quiet aware of what the situation is ince im back on stock. anyways ill be swinging it on the latest nightly just to clarify my doubts. and im pretty sure they just want the maintainer to switch to kk source , btw nice to see you here hope your cooking something great for us

Well, in the past I had some Android phones, and CyanogenMod was always first with upgrading everything, and then other developers were basing their ROMs on these updates. I mean, they updated everything, end other ROMs were updated fast. They're not giving support which they were giving in the past, that's all.
