After rooting and changing over to KT's Kernal and using WanamLite rom for GT-I9505, I seem to be using H+ now more than 4G, and haven't seen it change to LTE yet in areas I used to have 4G. I checked to make sure LTE is enabled and it is. I did a speedtest on H+ on full bars and only pulled about 2.5mb. On 4G (when available) I pulled about 20mb. But I don't see LTE anymore in the same spot I now see 4G. Maybe just the icon is changed?
Any help would be great,
Thanks
P.S. I have a galaxy s4 on at&t

Icons are changed in AOSP/AOKP Roms. 4G icon = LTE and H+ = HSPA+
On the Stock/TW ROM 4G = HSPA+ and 4GLTE = LTE
Gotcha, thanks! I thought I was using a touchwiz rom though?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
May be a problem with the ROM itself. I would post the question in that rom's specific section on the i9505 forums.
I don't know why they can't just have the indicator say LTE in the AOKP roms? LTE isn't 4G.

It's not a Touchwiz vs. AOSP thing; it's an AT&T vs. international thing.

LTE is 4G. H+ is not 4G, even though AT&T branded it as such.

So is it safe to assume that when I'm in 4G, it's at LTE speeds, just a different logo? Or should I dig a little deeper into the rom. And H+ is just a faster 3G?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
Yes, on your Rom, 4g icon = LTE, while H+ = att's "4g" non LTE

Not going to argue with you, but no carrier currently deploys TRUE 4G. True 4G is LTE Advanced. Eventually AT&T will have LTE-A.

I know it possible for you to be able to change atrix automatic custom network (which is at&t) to work with t-mobile. Youtube doesn't help cause all i see is bell, sprint and metro pcs. I know it something with the radio. But i need your help thanks.
Do you have any friends who have tmo that you can ask their apn settings? That's my suggestion.

This is true. Carrier radio frequencies do differ in the USA. Wifi is the only high speed you'll get in the USA if you are not on at&t using the at&t Atrix.

If you're not locked into a t-mobile contract I suggest going to straight talk, they have a SIM for AT&T version phones and that should get you 3g. Or go for h20 wireless which should get you full 4g speed.

Lol, despite its name Atrix 4G does not have 4G... You need a carrier working on one or two of 850/1900/2100 3g frequencies.

i'd still consider HSPA plus more 4g than Sprint's so called 4g and that wimax thing the original evo has
and I'd consider verizon's 3G more like 2g hahaha

I agree but the 3G/4G terminology is a bit screwed. The current "3G" release is 100x faster then the original 3G release. Yet the current 4G release is only 2.5x faster then the current 3G release.
Which is why Android refers to it as H. It should probably stay that way.
But I get 22Mbps on my N4 on DC-HSPA, which isn't as high as you, but I know how you feel. But I live on a continent that's completely GSM/HSPA/LTE, so I never really had the CDMA 3G problem.
Is there anyway to enable 3G/wcdma only after rebooting??

I posted this in a thread earlier but it was a few months old so I thought I might have a better chance posting here. Anyway I have a MT4G (T-Mobile) running 4.2.2 on LiquidSmooth and I cant get anything over 3g even in areas where I previously had awesome 4g service (on stock 2.3.4). I checked my md5 and it does not match any other radio/baseband's md5. I'd really like my 4g back but I also don't want to brick my phone. Currently my md5 is showing up as 60de66c8b88d27b9a3bbae385b7f71dc and have yet to find one anywhere to match it. I am fairly new to rooting androids ( I had an iPhone for like 5 years and I just got fed up with the limitations even when it was jailbroken) I read a forum about extracting the radio.img from a stock rom but I was still iffy about the md5 not matching. Absolutely any advice would be great. Thanks in advance
As far as I know, mt4g only support 3g (hsdpa) networks.

Hey everyone, does the LG G2 D802 work on T-Mobile's LTE network in the US? I found a great deal on one and thinking about purchasing today. Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks!
I got a great deal in Verizon one. I'm on t mobile $30 plan but I think its only 3g. Got 4mbps d 1.5 up.
Havnt been out yet signal weak.
Sent from my VS980 4G using xda app-developers app
d802 lte radio supports = 800/900/1800/2100/2600 MHz
tmobiles lte = band 4, 1700mhz
So no, only HSPA+
Pretty much the only non tmobile branded g2 that will get lte on tmobiles network is a canadian one iirc.

I'm curious why Verizon's VS980 does not work on T-Mobile's LTE 1700(4)? The phone has the correct bands.
Verizon - VS980
GSM 850/900/1800/1900
CDMA 850/1900
UMTS 850/900/1900/2100
LTE 1700(4)/700(13)
Does the UK D802 have LTE?

No, it has nothing to do with signal. The phone can get signal even without a sim card. All the sim card does is register you on the network. If the sim card was bad, it would most likely kick you off the network completely.
One last thing: Have you edited the APN settings at all? Are you sure they are the default supplied by your carrier?

There are different version of 4g HSPA+ is known as 4G but it is different from 4G LTE. Have u tried editing the band priorities maybe their competing against each other.

Which carrier is doing that? how confusing.
Wiki:
HSPA+, or Evolved High-Speed Packet Access, is a technical standard for wireless, broadband telecommunication. HSPA+ enhances the widely used WCDMA (UMTS) based 3G networks with higher speeds for the end user that are comparable to the newer LTE networks. HSPA+ was first defined in the technical standard 3GPP release 7 and expanded further in later releases.
In the United States, it is commonly available under AT&T Mobility and T-Mobile US.

And just to clear things up for me, you will see 4g and lte icons in the taskbar and switch between the two respectively? Oh and I see no mention of 4G relating to HSPA+ but lte yes, so I still am unclear what the OP has asked.
Edit: nevermind it doesnt matter, very confusion lol. Sorry toews didnt mean to hijack your thread dude.
You can google your apn settings from google.
Example.
Att apn settings.
And you can go into settings more networks and create a new apn. Just make sure you enter it exaxctly as it reads.
Xda folks have alot if threads on different apns for achieving higher speeds. You create the new apn hit menu and then save toggle the new apn and reboot.. alot of times if your seeing fluctuation it can be due to a node on one if the local towers in your area.
But as stated it wouldnt hurt to upgrade your modem. Of course this does involve root and custom recovery such a twrp.. hope this helps.?
