I posted this in a thread earlier but it was a few months old so I thought I might have a better chance posting here. Anyway I have a MT4G (T-Mobile) running 4.2.2 on LiquidSmooth and I cant get anything over 3g even in areas where I previously had awesome 4g service (on stock 2.3.4). I checked my md5 and it does not match any other radio/baseband's md5. I'd really like my 4g back but I also don't want to brick my phone. Currently my md5 is showing up as 60de66c8b88d27b9a3bbae385b7f71dc and have yet to find one anywhere to match it. I am fairly new to rooting androids ( I had an iPhone for like 5 years and I just got fed up with the limitations even when it was jailbroken) I read a forum about extracting the radio.img from a stock rom but I was still iffy about the md5 not matching. Absolutely any advice would be great. Thanks in advance
As far as I know, mt4g only support 3g (hsdpa) networks.

you're right the mt4g doesn't support 4g :good:
I posted a reply to your question in the other thread, OP.
The 3G/4G arguement is old and mostly opinion based. That would best be skipped

As i understand it, MIUI doesn't support 4G.. but a lot of people here seem to like it.
For those of you using MIUI with otherwise decent 4G coverage from t-mo, is it a big sacrifice to give it up?

MiUi doesn't give up HSPA+. Who ever told you that is lying. The radio files are not a member of the ROM. If the radio file you have supports HSPA+ then you will get HSPA+ on MiUi.

Don't know why the OP would think such a thing....A rom won't remove 3G or 4G from your phone, unless you physically remove the radio parts from the device. You will get 3G & HSPA+[4G] on miui, only if you are in the coverage area.

I have no idea either. I've never seen a post that leads one to believe that any ROM will take away HSPA+.
I've seen where people say that "4G" or "H" no longer appears but you are still getting the service regardless of what the phones.
Ok thanks, this is helpful. I guess I am confusing with HSPA+ and perhaps LTE.
There's many posts that mention MIUI doesn't support "4G" and probably won't until China gets "4G". I'm guessing this is LTE they are talking about?

Hspa+ is only one radio. So you will always have 4g. MIUI doesn't support wimax radio. Which is sprint band which has one radio for 3g and another for 4g.

I have been using Miui on my HTC sensation and I can't get 2g, 3g or 4G. I only get regular cell. I can't even connecct to the marketplace as it says no connection. And I've tried about everything.
The evo has no wimax (4G) support on any MIUI ports. That is another example of the no 4G support. Easy mistake for someone to make, I suppose. Now they know.

Try wiping everything. After backing up that is; and doing a clean install. I've seen your issue with some people who were just installing over.

Can't say for sure since I have a Tmo NS but having had Sprint I can tell you my wife and I had those issues with all Sprint phones. Their 3g speeds SUCK.

Having the correct radio will give you better reception, which will give you a more reliable connection. As a result you may see increased speeds. Keyword is may. You can decrease your ping by setting a local server ip your phone first connects to. Search for lowering pings. For radios, flash using fastboot. Please be sure to read up on radio flashing as a mistake could be catastrophic. Good luck

I am also new to the NS4G, having switched from evo 4g. Sprint 3G has always sucked the big one and I don't notice any appreciable difference between nexus and evo speeds.
The phone reception IS quite a bit weaker than the Evo however.

Ok so why call something 4g service when it's really just 3g service. That's lying to customers! We Won't see 4g until 2013 it seems! Kinda makes me want to leave Tmobile!

Another challenge will be in the confusion brought on by its own definition of 4G. Since 2010, T-Mobile renamed its HSPA+ network--widely considered a 3G technology--its 4G network. With the widespread availability of HSPA+, T-Mobile was able to boast of having the nation's largest 4G network.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
But yet they call it 4g and throttle you when you go over the really 3g service! Stupid!
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Semantics... It is what it is - doesn't matter what you call it.
If you're going to leave a good provider that has good rates for something as petty as that, you've got bigger issues than T-Mobile calling their service 4g...
That's just my opinion though... No offense intended.

not sure if you know or don't know, but even LTE is not considered 4G
true 4G is still far away from any service
all the service providers are advertising 4G but they are all fake, as non of them really meets the 4G specifications
First of all know your facts . Now the person who said late isn't really 4g is right. But on another note in certain areas T-Mobile is just as fast as Verizon and sprint . I get speeds of 15 - 20 mbps. Its all about area that you are in.

True 4g is atleast 100mbps and guess what nobody hits that. Its all bull but yes lte is def faster then hspa+. Only the uneducated think that these bs services are real 4g and sadly not to many people know really just how fast 4g is supposed to be if they did these companys would have a problem
im from phoenix and i get "4G" almost anywhere in the valley, not so much when indoors , but it is kinda fast ...
Ill takes my fake 4G battery life ove LTE!

lol.... really?
The whole "4g" is just a marketing gimmick, but i don't really care as long as im getting 11500kbps download most of the time, sometime i even get 15000kbps.
It was a big deal before about this basically any company with new technology is consider 4g now. Hspa+ can be 4g if it reached 100 mbs. The network must reach over 100mbs not any phone. Lte isn't consider 4g either but lte-A is considered 4g.
i dont want to be mean or anything but this is really really old news and probably has been posted a million and a half times. no carrier in the world has true LTE Advanced which is set to be "real" 4G. All the current "4G" monikers are just stopgaps until they can implement LTE Advanced or a 4G compliant WiMAX.
I wouldnt quit just because tmo is advertising 4G when it really does not, because you'll be stuck looking for a 4G compliant carrier with nothing to switch to.

I agree but the 3G/4G terminology is a bit screwed. The current "3G" release is 100x faster then the original 3G release. Yet the current 4G release is only 2.5x faster then the current 3G release.
Which is why Android refers to it as H. It should probably stay that way.
But I get 22Mbps on my N4 on DC-HSPA, which isn't as high as you, but I know how you feel. But I live on a continent that's completely GSM/HSPA/LTE, so I never really had the CDMA 3G problem.
Is there anyway to enable 3G/wcdma only after rebooting??

So I read in most forums and it seems to me that you can get 4g but at the cost of Google now not working. I'm just a bit confused. I've had my nexus 4 for about 2 weeks now. 3g only. Currently on T-Mobile what I was wondering is that how come my box says 4g but I'm only getting 3g and I checked best buys website and they're selling nexus 4 and in the description it says it has 4g.

they call hspa+ 4G. while its technically 3G(or 3.5G), it can be very fast too, so they call it 4G. ive gotten data speed as fast as 30mbps for download on hspa+ in my area. i think that you are thinking lte, which is also considered 4G. they are just different technology.

In fact it's got a LTE modem inside so it was possible to connect but no specific amplifiers for 4G signal, also the newest update from Google rendered it unusable.
HSPA+ 21/42 is fast enough, as said above, I guess.
What everyone above me said. For what it's worth, for most people, hspa+ is more than fast enough. There is nothing you'd do on a phone than warrants needing faster internet than your at home cable internet lol
