So I'm trying to decide between purchasing a note 8 or a Nexus 10. I'm coming from a Kindle Fire 8.9 rooted with cm10.1 installed on it. That said, I've had TONS of tablets. Original galaxy tab 7, hp touchpad, galaxy tab 10.1, nexus 7, original transformer, xoom 2, xoom 1, and the transformer pad. I'm a tech junkie(as a profession) so I know my stuff. The problem I'm facing between the two is that I love the 8" screen, the quad core processor, sd expandability, and the ability to use hspa+. However the nexus 10 offers much more developer support, had that amazing high res screen, really good speakers, and stock android. Ish if anybody has had both and has preferences...or any arguments either way? If so it would be a HUGE help. THANKS!
Additionally I would make use of the spen because I do a lot of note taking on my tablet. But currently I just type everything out. That said, the Motorola xoom 2 uses a pointed stylus I believe the nexus could use if I wanted to.
Do you have a link to that stylus?
It all comes down to pen or no pen, is what it is. Do you want to draw and/or handwrite on it? If so, go for Note. If not, then keep what you have.

I was looking at the Note 8, especially because of that 3G radio, but that WXGA 189 ppi screen resolution killed it for me. Let me explain. I picked up a Zenbook Prime ultrabook with a 1080p 165 ppi screen last summer and was blown away by how great it looked, particularly with the matte screen. Then I got my first tablet, a Nexus 10, in January and its screen soon made me look down on the Zenbook's screen by comparison, that's how great the WQXGA 300 ppi screen is. :highfive: Once you step up to retina-level ppi, it's tough to go back.
That said, you've pretty much summed up the strengths of each tablet. It really depends on how mobile you need your tablet to be and how much you'd use the stylus, I only use my Nexus 10 around the house so it works better for me. That beautiful screen is also its weakness, as it sucks power like crazy. I always keep it on the low end of the brightness scale (lowest brightness setting allowed, which is still surprisingly bright, in a dark room, maybe 35% setting during the day) and the screen still consistently eats 60-70% of the power for me, according to the battery stats. It goes about 6-6.5 hours of continuous use on a single charge, best case (holds charge fantastic, kept using it sporadically for almost two weeks on a single charge one time).
I estimate that the Exynos 5 Dual in the Nexus 10 pulls about 5 W on average, up to 9-10 W max, which is a lot, even with a 33.75 Wh battery. I'd check the Note 8's reviews to see if it does any better, here's one you could read. The Nexus 10 can get pretty hot up top where the logic board is, though not as bad as some of the hottest devices, and you're not going to hold it up there anyway. I was surprised at how heavy 603 grams felt in my hands, I suggest you try holding one before you decide. At 338 grams, the Note 8 is almost half the weight.
The front-facing speakers are good on the Nexus 10, but the maximum volume is not as high as I'd like. You never know how high the volume is going to be on various videos and not being able to compensate by turning the volume up enough can be annoying. The camera may be the weakest link, just mediocre. I'd expect the Note 8 to have a better one on the back, though the front camera on the Nexus 10 has 50% more megapixels.
If I were you, I'd wait for the next Nexus 7, which is supposed to launch with a Full HD screen in a month or so. If you really need a good stylus, the Note 8 has a Wacom digitizer built in, so it can't be beat. If you want the gorgeous screen and don't mind the stuff I pointed out, Nexus 10. For all the flaws I've listed in the Nexus 10, I'm very happy with it, only big complaint is with Android web browsers generally, but that's a whole different Android software issue.
The other thing...is that I can get the nexus 10 for $260 (16gb model...used of course but in new condition), and the note 8 for $300. Makes it a bit of a tougher choice seeing as how I can get either relatively inexpensive lol. I'd wait for the next Nexus 7 but I had it right before I got my Kindle fire 8.9" and 7" just doesn't do it for me. Thing is...idk if that 8" will do it for me either(that sounds iffy LOL!) thats why I don't want the next Nexus 7

Have you considered the Galaxy Note 10? It's pretty much the same thing, just stretched out to 10" with a battery that holds 50% more juice. Other specs might be slightly worse since it's older, for example, the same CPU but at a lower frequency, but it has a 3G radio and the stylus/digitizer that you wanted. I suggest you go to a store and handle these tablets before deciding, if you're not sure if 7-8" will do it for you.

I for one find comparing 10" screen tablets with 7" ones simply absurd..
You either need a 10" screen or a 7" one.
I myself think that 10" is the bare minimum size for a "general purpose" tablet's display, ideally I would want a bigger one if it wasn't heavier and had the same battery runtime. 7" is good only as an e-book reader.

Tab 10.1 is a great device.
Keeping it because I really do want a 10" screen.... And ordered a Nexus 7 too. I'm not sure about the 7" size, in some ways it will bother me for sure, but in other ways it may turn out to be more useful, lighter, more pocketable, I guess I will find out in a few weeks. My tab 10.1 has gotten super laggy, while my galaxy nexus has worked really, really, really well, so for a couple of hundred, I'm willing to try something new. I know I could flash a custom rom, maybe one of these days I will, but I need the camera to function for video calls, so I haven't looked into it much.
Personally I'll keep my tablet until it dies.
Maybe selling mine. The Tab is awesome and there's no doubt the xda peeps will get Jelly bean on it soon. But the Nexus 7 format factor is just right for me. Like the Kindle Fire I always wanted.

Count me in on getting both. I've had my GT10 for about 9 months now, but during that time I had a Nook Color, and just in the last three weeks I got a Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus. Both are great devices, and both are now on craigslist.
I agree with the post above that comparing 7" and 10" tablets is ridiculous. They serve different purposes. But I will point out that many people are making the same point that they don't need a 7" device because it's halfway between a phone and a 10". That's silly and based on the fact that 10" has become a standard for tablets simply because that was the screens that the factories could build. But think about it: 7" is the most obvious size for a truly portable tablet: It fits in a pocket. 10" is not actually that great a size. It's too small for productivity and too large to take with you without a bag (unless you hold it in your hand the whole time). If I could have my way, I'd have a 3.5-4" phone, a 7" tablet (though I'd love to have less bezel since you can hold it in one hand with just the edges), and a 12-15" tablet with a docking station for productivity.
Don't get me wrong; I love my GT10, but once bigger tablets become the norm I'll gladly drop it (and my laptop) in favor of a true laptop replacement. One device for communication; one for entertainment, and one for productivity (and probably entertainment too!).
That's why both markets exist; whereas some would rather have the smaller size that it's pocketable others such as myself have no problems carrying the larger tablets in hand wherever we go.
I'm strongly considering getting one simply for the fact that it has ICS on it at a dirt cheap price, but I still see no permanent replacement for my Verizon LTE GT 10.1. Until there is another 10 inch tablet with ICS on it and a faster processor on Verizon LTE I'm sticking with my tab and its dated 3.2 OS.

Like Natalie Imbruglia, I'm torn. I went from the original Galaxy Tab 7" to the 10.1" and thought I could never go back to a 7" tablet after that, but it is a really nice bit of kit.
Two phrases spring to mind. Horses for courses, and swings and roundabouts.
I have just bought the 16gb nexus 7. I plan to use it in conjunction with my tab 10.1. Like for college I will use the 10.1 to type down notes as my hand writing is appalling but I can touch type fast on the tablet. I will also use the 10.1 for college text books (there all free on the college web site) which need a big screen. I will then use the nexus 7 for more gaming, lite reading and lite video watching. As some games just look better on a bigger than the 4.8inch screen on my s3, but playing games on the tab 10.1 is uncomfortable as it is too big for it, not to mention the 10.1's crappy GPU Also, I used the archos 70it for a year, which is a 7 inch tab, so I do like the 7 inch form factor although I do like the 10.1 inch screen as well
Well, for those saying they are going to carry it around: why don't you get a phone-enabled 7" tablet and carry only one device then?
I would do it myself and in fact I tried for a couple of days the original Galaxy Tab 7" but it was unfortunately just a tad too big for the fanny packs I always use... Half an inch smaller and that would have been my "smartphone" (BTW, since 7 months I am the enthusiastic owner of a Galaxy Note and I am hoping that the next iteration will have a bigger screen).
So, I still maintain that 7" tablets are useless but as ebook readers.
Or maybe it's just that I like to keep and carry around as few devices as possible (for example, iPods-like music players are worse than useless, to me, I keep all the music and videos I want on my Note and it also has FM radio and internet radio).
P.S. when I am out and about I use the Note as I would the Galaxy Tab 10.1" at home but of course once at home it's G.Tab only (unless, of course, I am using the phone capabilities or I need some data on the Note). The smaller screen (and that was the case also with the Galaxy Tab 7") is simply too limiting. Even as an ebook reader (one of the main uses I have for the G.Tab) screen real estate is a plus (and that was also one of the main reasons to choose the G.Tab, it was and still is one of the lighest 10" tablets around, possibly THE lighest).
I havent decided just yet. If I do decide to buy one I have a feeling that I would be using the tab 10.1 at home and the n7 while out to read books and browsing the web and what not.
Although if I find myself using the N7 more often then yea ill probably sell the tab 10.1 and at the least it should cover the cost of the tablet.
I'm getting the Nexus 7 and selling my GTab 10.1. I rather have an android tablet that is more open and more quick to get upgrades. I have an ipad 3rd gen, so I don't need another large screen tablet.
My old nook color was my intro to tablets but the screen was just too small. Immediately after getting the 10.1 I was never you g back to anything smaller.

Same here. My nook color has been collecting dust for the past year. Works fine as an e-reader but feels cramped for web browsing.
Media playback on a 7-inch tablet would be fine for me though but here again with the lack of microSD and HDMI support the Nexus 7 falls short of what's needed. Sacrifices have to be made for the price point . . obviously the Nexus 7 is meant to compete with the nook tablet and kindle fire. It does well there with the quad core processor and higher resolution screen. Too bad . . I'd pay a bit more to get a microSD card slot in that thing (or be willing to pay $250 for the 8gb model w/ uSD).
I sold my TF101 today on ebay for 245 no dock 8gb and a leather case. My baby was in good condition. I will be getting a Nexus 7 for now. Until they come up with something higher than 1080p and quad core.
It's funny I'm going from 10.1 to a 7inch. I hate 7 inch tablets but since it's a Google tablet. I'm giving it a try.
I'm going to miss this community. We have so many talented devs here. I hope the Nexus 7 forum is the same.

Nexus 7 is great I have TF101 and N7. Just watch out for screen lift in your device and you might want to wait for a new batch of N7 for them to fix it.
i was going to get a higher res one and/or faster one but now that jellybean is out this thing is so damn fast... i'm pretty picky and i'm actually happy with it. i wish the bezel was smaller though.
looking at the windows 8 tabs since i'm enjoying my samsung focus flash.
It would be interesting to hear a long term (after the honeymoon) report from you six months down the road. Specifically looking to hear what your experience was going from a 10 to a 7.
I waited for the Infinity and now I'm waiting for the Amazon Fire 2. By Sep 6 I will know for sure if the F2 will beat the N7 then decision time!
BTW, I'm keeping my 101s. The 1280x800 res will be here for a long time and the Tegra 2 is not a slouch either.
What do you think the Kindle Fire will have that will make it so compelling? Stock Google love with Tegra 3 and a 216ppi display is pretty hard to beat.

I was considering doing the same, but I thought that the portrait orientation and smaller screen size would outweigh the benefits of the Nexus 7. I'm very happy with my TF101, and if I'm going to get a new tablet it would have to be of a similar size.

Had the original galaxy tab and as my first major android device I thought it was wicked. Only issue for me is that it genuinely felt like an over sized smart phone at times so when I got the tf with the dock it just felt like a proper tablet experience.
However, I've heard the nexus7 is a great performer and video and games run real sweet. I sometimes miss that pocket size portability of the gtab...... but then I guess that's why I got my s2.
Thinking about the tf300 but may wait for the infinity and the big price drop that I've been informed about.

My primary reason for getting a 7 is portability and if the F2 can match the N7 with better memory and battery life then I may go for it. Just have to wait and see what Amazon has to offer.

I initially didn't want a 7 but as the resolution improved so did the legibility, N7 is definitely one of my choices but Amazon's next tab is about to be announced so holding my breath.
I was considering the N7, but since I have a Galaxy S2 (which, while not GNote-sized, is pretty big already), I don't need a portable tablet. I might switch up or get the Surface tablet though... that keyboard cover looks interesting. But I mean, that's what I thought about the keyboard dock too.
I have both the TF and the N7, and ever since I picked up the N7 about a month ago, that's all I use. The speed is incredible. I've run RaymanFX's JB ROM and CM9, and while both were improvements over stock, it doesn't hold a candle to the smoothness of the N7. Most of my tablet use is browsing in Chrome, and that's also where there's the biggest difference. The performance improvement in other areas isn't as dramatic.
The other major plus is the portability. It fits in my suit pocket, my jacket pocket, and even in the pockets of my shorts. As a result, I'm more likely to carry it around with me. I never bothered tethering before, but since I have the N7 with me often, it comes in handy.
If a keyboard is somewhat important, there are a number of folio cases with BT keyboards available for about $30-40. Sure, it's not as elegant as the TF solution, but it works. Since you're coming from HC/ICS on the TF, I would strongly recommend switching your N7 to the tablet UI. The phone UI just doesn't do it justice.
The N7 will probably be my last Android tablet for a while. I'm looking to pick up the Transformer Book. I'm a Windows consultant, so the idea of a Windows 8 tablet/laptop is pretty appealing. Plus I can run StarCraft .

You took the words out of my mouth, a 7incher is definitely more convenient to carry around. AFA Amazon's K2, if it comes with free 3G like their KDX it could blow away the competition. With GPS and 3G, navigation will be an attractive feature.
So what would you guys suggest, a 10 inch or 7 inch tablet? I'm really torn in the decision to keep my TF101 or "upgrade" to a 7 in Nexus 7. I know it is easier to carry around but is the 3 inch difference in screen size a major difference. I need your opinions!

7 inch on the road, 10 inch or more at home or office. But format is only part of the story, the other consideration is specs like wifi, gps, camera and bluetooth. I intend to have both.
I was going to but the N7 at staples on Tuesday but ima wait for amazon offer (s) first before I spend money. I still need a tablet.i hate using my vita at my college.

for me it´s a simple choice, i´m always with a backpack so 10 or 7 it really doesn´t matter...
but from experience, i found the tf101 a little "tall" for portrait reading... the balance is just not right to do that naturally..
What do you think?
The TF700 is a terrible scam.. sorry, but this thing doesn't even work beyond something from the early naughties. It's seriously underpowered, and for an expensive tab it has some bloody cheap internals - Tegra 3 is 2 years old, it was never meant to power a 1080p screen for much more than movies. If you want proof, 1080p is one of the things they're touting with the Tegra 3+. So just grab a Nexus. It has a better screen, anyway.
My first phone was this Samsung brick thing back in 2007, and it could play music. The Infinity can't even do that without it dropping out or stuttering all the time thanks to its terrible NAND.
I think Kookas went of the deep end. TF700 isn't that bad. I think it has been the best 10 inch Android tablet until the Nexus 10 arrives. And the first Tegra 3 device (Transformer Prime I think) came out early this year, so the Tegra 3 isn't that old.
However, unless you NEED a keyboard, I see no reason to buy an Infinity now. Nexus 10 has much better specs and a stock Nexus software experience.

Best Android tab until now isn't really saying much, and actually in terms of specs the Note 10.1 completely surpasses it aside from the screen resolution.
Trust me, it is an absolutely horrific device. It's laggy as all hell while the Nexus 10 does that awesome resolution like a pro. Asus doesn't deserve a penny.

"I decided to return my TF700 today, and await the Nexus 10 release. Sure, some people are saying its "ugly" but it's a beast internally.
I don't use the keyboard dock, nor do I really care to own one. I have a laptop to do any content creation, which I don't do on the go anyway. I'll be using it as a pure consumption device around the house, and it seems like a better fit for me. I even plan to pick up the 16GB model and save a few dollars.
That said, anyone comparing the two devices "Apples to Apples" is just wrong. They appeal to two VERY different types of users, and in my opinion don't even really fall into the same category other than "Android Tablets". The TF700 isn't a bad tablet, and overall I enjoyed using it (CleanROM 2.3 + Data2SD changed my life). No reason for everyone to bash it, it may be the most versatile Android Tablet around for some time and it keeps getting better."

anyway, I have never even tried an android tablet in the store or seen anyone else with one so I am starting really from square 0 here.
My main questions are:
1) Is the nexus 10 the best 10" (or 7" for the 7) tablet on the market right now?
and if 1 is true:
2) how long has it been out, i.e. how close are we for a due upgrade?
I can be patient here as i do not use the tablet that often but i'd like to have it around for my board exam im taking in august to study on that month.

1) Depends on usage. If you want to tinker with custom Androids and Kernels, yes, it is. Any Nexus tablet is. If other things are important, sometimes other tablets win out instead. Samsung has excellent displays and the S-Pen on the Notes, for example. The Nexus 10 is the best for me (I reflash it almost weekly when its not out on repair >.<)
2) December 18th. It probably won't get an upgrade until Decemberish, and honestly, despite being dual-core, is really daggone fast.
Both the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 are great. I own both. I actually prefer the 7 better. It's not as powerful but it's easier to hold and navigate in general. It's a lot more portable as well. But it's just personal preference. Both are top tier tablets. I hope you enjoy whichever you choose.
Owned the Nexus 7 for 4 months then sold it to upgrade to a Nexus 10. The wife has a retina iPad. I can say that the Nexus 10 is the best 10" tablet for ME.
Size wise i love the Nexus 7. Very portable and easy to travel with. Handling the device isnt cumbersome as some 10" tablets. However, the successor is due soon.. I would hold of buying this. The only alternative to the N7 is the Asus Memo Pad. Same size and form factor with an even lower price but the specs is underwhelming. Then comes the Note 8.0 (which i think is pretty awesome) but its priced at $399.
Nexus 10 will have the same general feel of a 10" tablet. Feels a bit lighter and easier to hold than my wifes retina iPad. The screen sharpness is in its own league.. If it didnt have such a high res screen i would have opted for the Note 10.1. I dont think we'll see a successor to this tablet until the end of 2013. This tablet is fast! No slowdowns unlike the Nexus 7 (due to the poor/slow memory Asus used in it). Its cpu is a generation ahead of most quad core cpus currently available.
Thanks for all the opinions so far, really helpful! I strongly considered the 7" variant because I am a physician and it could fit easily in my white coat, but since I use the galaxy note 2 as my phone, or would seem a bit redundant. Well I think I'll go get the nexus 10, thanks!
I'm about to sell my Nexus 10 to buy a smaller tablet. The Nexus 10 is great but it's too big to use comfortably daily. Playing games is almost impossible and holding the tablet in portrait it's too uncomfortable.
I've narrowed it down to the new Nexus 7 or the upcoming LG G Pad 8.3. I prefer the LG because 8 inches seems to be the perfect screen size for gaming, video playback, web browsing and PDF reading.
The Nexus 7 has great price, updates, great stock experience and it's already available. But I feel I would get tired of the small screen too quickly. Reading PDFs would be almost impossible, as well as web browsing.
I've been thinking about it for days and still can't decide.
Do you guys that own the Nexus 7 feel the screen is too small after a few months with it? I'll be using the new tablet at home always. I think the LG is great because it's the first 8 inch tablet with 1080P screen. The snapdragon 600 inside is also better and the battery is bigger also, but I know I wouldn't get updates. This wouldn't be too much of a problem if the tablet works for me. I think I could keep an 8 inch tablet longer than a 7.
No. In fact I think the size is perfect. Its wide enough to hold in one hand comfortably (portrait). It fits in my front jeans pocket (barely). Big enough to do whatever on.
The N7 uses an under clocked S600. It has updated cores and GPU. I don't know why they called it an S4 Pro. So speed wise you will see very little difference.
LG never supports their products. It will probably come out with 4.2.2 just as we're getting 4.4. They have horrible update schedules. You're lucky to get one OS update before EOL. Development on them are also lacking. They usually come locked without an easy way to unlock. The LG G2 is rooted by a special method but remains locked.
It will probably never see an update past 4.4
I wouldn't pick a LG device unless I gave it several months to settle and see where it ends up with updates and dev. They make some great hardware but really botch up the software and support. The G2 seems like a great phone out of the box but will be left in the dust in a few months. Take your chances with their tablet but think about one thing:
How well will you like it in a year when the N7 has the latest and greatest Android (5.0?) and cool ROMs and mods, and you're stuck on an iffy modified stock rom with no support?
I left the Nexus line once, and it was rough.
The 7" is very nice because you want to downsize for toting. It fits easier into your coat pockets and lighter. 7 and 8 inches aren't that different unless you are comparing. Standalone you won't even notice the difference.

Actually the N7's 7 inch display isn't too small for PDF and web browsing. Given its retina grade PPI, words are crisp even when they are zoomed out. I've been using it for my classes which I read PDF PowerPoint slides on daily basis, and I am happy with it. :good:
7 inch is also the largest you can get for comfortable 1 hand use with portrait mode. 8 inch tablets has to be held with 2 hands even in portrait.
You lay down, put tablet on your belly. Can be held with one hand...
So size doesn't matter.
Reading? n7 is good... No more headaches.
Oh well go with n7 and next year maybe a nexus8 will come out.
It sounds like you've answered your own question, you find 7" tablets to small. Both are excellent tablets, you can't really go wrong with either of them.
I've not used a Nexus 7 but have used a Galaxy Tab 2 7" and I thought the size was great for what it was, small, pocketable but 7" tablets are rather small for day to day use (they're fine for reading PDFs though, Kindles are even smaller).
Personally I find 10" tablets to big.
For me the iPad Mini is pretty much the perfect tablet size but Apple products interest me not. I was interested in the Galaxy Tab 3 8" but oddly for Samsung their Galaxy Tab specs are low. I understand both the Galaxy Tab 3 8" and LG G Pad 8.3 are roughly the same size and crucially aspect ratio as the iPad Mini.
It's the wider nature of 8" tablets that interest me and of course the LG G Pad 8.3 is a much better tablet than the Galaxy Tab 3 8".
Sure I doubt LG will upgrade the version of Android much (if at all), their track record is poor but you know what Android 4.2.2 is already a decent version of Android and it's not as if Android 4.3/4.4 add much.
Yes not getting Android 5.0 (possibly) would irk me but it's all about the size and aspect ratio with a tablet for me and 8" tablets are the "sweet spot". Plus I like the look of QSlide, it doesn't look as useful as Samsung's Multi-Window but is the next best thing. Being able to display two apps at once on a tablet is genuinely useful.
p.s - IMO this whole phones/tablets not getting the latest Android version is overrated, you've still bought a decent product (hopefully) and the past few Android upgrades have been minor anyway. Android 4.0 came out 2 years ago!

I had the Nexus 7(2013) and returned it because of the nonfunctional GPS and random reboot issues. From what I understand, the GPS now works, but the reboot issues persist, and some still complain of multitouch issues.
I've got the LG G2 and it's the best phone I've ever owned. With that said, I'm looking forward to the G Pad. The Q-Pair software looks really slick, in that you can tether to your phone(supposedly any Android phone) for a data connection with one click. It will also send and receive texts and phone calls from a connected phone.
As to the comments about one handed use, the G Pad is a hair under 1/2" wider than the Nexus 7, thanks to the thin bezel. LG supposedly studied average hand sizes to come up with comfortable overall dimensions.
I'd say if you want the bleeding edge latest-greatest version of Android, and can live with the smaller screen, Asus build quality, and random reboots, go with the Nexus 7.
If you don't mind slow or no software updates, but want a bigger screen, most likely superior build quality, and hopefully no random reboots, go with the G Pad 8.3. That said, I'd still wait for it to hit the market to see if any serious issues surface.
I'm in the same situation as you. I currently have the nexus 7 and love the screen quality and all. It's good for reading super small texts but I've always felt like 8 inch screen was the perfect size. I'm waiting to see when the lg comes out and the price. If it's $299, that's a bargain and I'm probably gonna sell my nexus 7 and get the LG. I'm not too worried about software with the LG because I know I'm gonna end up rooting it and installing AOSP on it eventually.
Also I feel like the nexus 7 doesn't have a great build quality. my nexus 7 most likely has a grounding issue (ie: I have touches not registering when I place it flat on my bed or table) but who knows maybe lg will have the same problem. I would say wait for lg to come out, play with it, then make your decision
LG is terrible with releasing updates for their products. I'd actually wait a bit to see if the dev community does anything for it. I had a phone from them that they basically stopped doing updates for a month after it was released, rendering it useless. I had bought it on the basis that they were going to release an update for it, and after a year, they didn't.
My Nexus 7 2013 have been great, and have neither multitouch or random reboot issues. If the Gpad can be rooted/unlocked/restored as easily as Nexus 7 and have a Dev community just as large I might consider it. Otherwise I prefer the Nexus 7.
I have an N7 2013 running PA to get the Tablet UI, which I feel works much better than Phablet mode (lots more real estate).
I do feel the N7 bezels are a waste and would much prefer an 8" tablet with much smaller bezels. I had an iPad mini before the N7 (my wife has it now!) and as much as iOS is boring, it worked much better as a tablet in terms of its size. So I'm thinking the LG would close that gap.
Like others, however, I feel it would need to be BL unlockable to make the switch. I have hope only because it's a WiFi only device, thus no carriers to be beholden to.
LG G Pad 8.3 to be available October 14th in Korea and other markets by the end of the year.
Price: 510$.

I love the new N7. I just got rid of my iPad 3, it was big and of course boring. I'm not experiencing any of those issues, I rooted and unlocked it straight outta the box, still running stock ROM. It's great for web browsing and everything else of course. I personally think this is the best tablet on the market. You can't go wrong with price, usability and support from Google and XDA.
For on the go, I like the 2013 N7. My 2012 got really laggy even after the update. There are a few bugs still with the touch response, but its better now. Ill still use an iPad 3 at home, mainly because the wife prefers Apple. The LG looks like it could be nice, but not for the rumor prices.
It's really about the tradeoff you want to make. The new N7 is great and it wins where Nexus devices win: frequent updates, freedom to flash and competitive pricing. If you're a person (like me) who likes to muck about a lot, there's no alternative. With non-Nexus devices, I think you have to ask yourself if you're potentially comfortable with that device as-is for the entire time you own it. If it never got a new feature or the newest OS base and the like, would you be satisfied with the purchase? If you feel good saying yes to that, it sounds to me like the screen size is a big feature for you, so I'd go that way. If you're putting your faith in an OEM to fix or improve software, there's history to support the conclusion that you will generally be disappointed, as a rule of thumb. Just go into the purchase with your eyes open to that likely scenario and you'll be fine.

Today I went to a store to try again the Nexus 7 and I think I'm sold. Great screen, great materials, very nice to hold with one hand, stock android, etc. Then I tried the Note 8.0 and Tab 3 8.0 and they felt heavier and my hand got tired much quickly than with the Nexus 7. Screen was not that bad, but comparing touchwiz to stock on the Nexus 7 showed me again stock is better for a tablet.
I'm not gonna wait for the LG. Will try the Nexus 7 for a week and see how that goes.
Fistly, for comparing, we must try in hand G8.
I bought a month ago N7 lte, and now thinking to try G8, and if it will be the same in tactical feelings i prefer 8 inch vs 7 inch.
10 inches is big for mobility, 7 - small for reading. 8 - best compromise.
And of course, price is one more important factor.

This tablet is great. Bought it today to replace my Nexus 10, which is a great tablet but I just can't use it comfortably holding it for hours. Too heavy and big. Playing games was impossible, as doing almost everything else.
I wasn't quite sure about 7 inches, but after a couple of hours playing with the device I can say it's great. It's AWESOME being able to hold the tablet with one hand for long periods of time without problems.
The screen is even better than the one in my Nexus 10: more bright and better colors. It just pops out.
The performance is great also. It may be slightly slightly faster and more fluid. It's great having such a good GPU: the adreno 320. I've gotalso more RAM available now, since with the Nexus 10 we were losing more and more RAM with every update Google released. They were giving more memory to the GPU and in the end I only had 500MB free. Now I have 1,2GB! This is after all apps installed and everything obviously.
It's so light and comfortable. In the end this is the most important feature.
I'm super impressed with the quality of the speakers! So loud and clear! I got the 32GB model for 249. Great price.
I can definitely see that Google has put more care in the software performance of this device than on the Nexus 10. Performance is consistent, no lags, no reboots or freezes for now. Even touch response is better than on the Nexus 10. Trust me.
I can finally play games comfortably and do everything without having to hold in my hands such a huge tablet. No more 9 inch tablets or bigger for me thanks. Even 8 inches seems big now. I actually tried the Note 8.0 and Tab 3 8.0 on the store before buying the Nexus 7 and they weren't as comfortable to hold as the Nexus 7. The plastic was horrible and it slips out of my hands. Touchwiz didn't perform half as quick and smooth as stock on the Nexus 7.
This is the best experience I've had with Android definitely. Can't imaging how Google will be able to improve this hardware anymore in the next versions. The materials are excellent, screen can't be better, loud speakers... and I'm even getting great battery life.
Now just waiting for 4.4. So happy right now. Selling my Nexus 10 this week.

That's the conversion price. you can't go off of that because the US price will be different from the won price. example: the note 8 has the same won price as the lg g pad but only costed $400 in the US. the ipad mini was 640,000 won (vs 650,000 for note 8 and lg g pad) and only costed $329 in the US. only way to tell the true cost will be to wait until they release that info for the US, which is after South Korea so next!
