Restore NC to stock - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Could someone please point me to a post with info on how to return a Nook Color to stock?
While showing some friends how easy it was to run stock on the NC I found out that somehow I managed to overwrite the stock boot with a partial install of CM10. I'm running CM10.1 off of an SD card no problems.
Thanks,
V

Stuck on CM7.2 and can't make changes

I had made a dual boot sd card running Cyanogenmod 7.1 but when my nook started giving the message that xx has stopped responding. I tried to modify my SD to upgrade to Cyanogenmod 7.2. Unfortunately I ended up flashing CM 7.2 to the emmc and lost the stock nook app. I can't figure out how to get to a recovery menu to flash a stock nook rom back to the machine so I can start back with a dual boot sd card. Any help is much appreciated. Unfortunately, I knew just enough about rooting to be dangerous.

Easiest way get stock back is to flash it with a CWM bootable card. See my tips thread linked in my signature and look at item A15.

[Q] Recovery Problem NC Color!

My system started as a 1.3 NC, that I successfully rooted using nooter, but a year ago last Oct ( 2011 ) and OTA update removed my rooting. After a couple weeks, someone posted a "fix" that restored my root access, but also bocked the OTA update.
A few weeks ago, I screwed up and mistakenly tried to install a Android Market update, and it BROKE my system. So I desided that this was a great time to update the NC to it's current OS level ( 1.4.3 ) and tried to follow the instructions on restoring the NC to "factory" fresh state... but thats where it started to go wrong!
Using the clockwork recovery sdcard I used to root the system, it FAILED to erace / format the Data area, probubly because I "fixed" it when I had the problem over a year ago with the OTA update.
Now no matter who's instructions I follow, I can't get that data section deleted so I can restore the system,
What I want to do restore/update the NC to current level, and THEN to reroot.
Currenly, the ONLY way I can use the NC is with the newest N2A image on a sdcard, but there is a huge speed penalty that way!
Can ANYONE help!
Thanks in Advance!
Tom
Yes, I can help. Go to my NC tips thread linked in my signature and make a bootable CWM SD per item A10. Then go to my item A15 and download the CWM flashable 1.4.3 and install per the directions there, wiping also per the directions.

now hanging on "n" screen

Thanks for the help... so far!
Did as suggested, created the card ( CWM-6.0.1.2-bootable_SD ) and loaded the "nookcolor_1_4_3_signed.zip" onto it.
Was successful in formatting the system , boot and cashe AND the Data directory! Restarted CWM and was able to run the 1.4.3 zip completely. Rebooted from CWM menu after removing the SD card from the NC....
...but now the NC hangs at the "N" screen.
So, what did I do wrong? What next?
Thanks in advance!

How did you format, using CWM or my format zip? You need to use my format zip. And NEVER format boot!

Just use my format zip that I talked about in item A15 of my tips thread. That should fix it.

works... but one last question
First off... a HUGE Thank You!
It looks like it's back to my pre-rooted NC.... so, if I understand this correcly, it's NOT rooted, and I still have to do that.
Any suggestions of the best rooting utility?
Again, thank your for all your help!

Hi leapinlar and tomsheeley,
Due to 10 posts rule I cannot reply to eyeballer's thread (I'll send him a pm instead). tomsheeley might try TWRP 2.3.1.0 after he root his NC as more friendly. Today I tried to upgrade to TWRP 2.4.1.0 available in #129 post. The problem I had with fixing permissions was solved by deleting the folder emmc/TWRP using a root explorer (I use Root Browser Lite free from market).
The problem is common I think with SGS+ and I found it by watching this thread.
Thanks and sorry for posting here but watching that you are posting in fattire's thread and I think my feedback might helps.

Can't seem to boot my Nook HD+ into clockwork mod

Hi guys,
I just bought a Nook HD+. It has 2.0.6 installed on it.
I'm trying to follow these instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40480897&postcount=10
I got to step 7, but it always boots into the Nook OS and never into the CWM. All the previous steps worked.
I'm using a 64 GB Sandisk Class 10 card btw. Other posts seems to indicate this card should work.

Step 7 of which list? Are you trying to root? And which CWM? That thread seems to be for the HD, not the HD+.

You are trying to flash the older stock zips with a new recovery (CWM 6.0.3.1 or the newest TWRP). The older zips are not compatible with them. Go to my NC Tips thread linked in my signature and get CWM version 5.5.0.4 on SD (item A10) and use that to flash the stock ROM. I have a link to the latest stock ROM there too (item A15).

version 5.5.0.4 CWM installed but still get error status 0 could it be the sd card?

Do you have both the stock recovery zip and the rom zip on your sd? There may not be room to expand the zip. Try deleting the ROM zip and just have the stock recovery zip on the SD. Then try flashing it.

That is why I asked if you used the SD version or emmc version, which you did not answer. The SD version takes the card down to about 200 MB.

I am lost. You are using the CWM written to the SD? And you copied my stock recovery to it by itself and tried to flash it? And it gives you error 0?

I don't think this will help, but try the SD version of CWM 6.0.1.2, also on my thread. Burn it to your 16GB SD and it should reduce to about 300 MB.

And you are burning my img file to your SD, right? With win32diskimager?

[Q] Strange ROM on my Nook Color

Hello,
I hope someone can help me.
After letting my son play with my Nook Color it came back to me with a CM7 based ROM image on it which identifies the device as a Nexus S. He does not really remember how he did this, and he is not very interested in helping me fix it.
Here is what it has: CyanogenMod-7-07112011-NIGHTLY-encore, Build number GRJ22, Android 2.3.4.
It does not have CWM on it; when one tells it to boot into recovery it tries to do some kind of restore to stock ROM (at least that's what it looks like), fails, and tells me to reboot.
If I hold the nook key while booting, I get a boot menu identified as "Encore U-Boot Menu by j4mm3r. 1.2 port + extras by fattire"
Because it identifies as a Nexus S, Rom Manager does not want to install the Nook Color CWM Recovery on it.
How can I get a current ROM based on CM10, with a current CWM Recovery on it?
I would appreciate any help in getting this device into a usable state again.
