your phone is in factory mode!
do this:
you must be rooted.
using root explorer or file explorer or what else, go to efs/imei folder, and make a file called "keystr" (without " ") (it is probably missing)
open "keystr" file and write "on" (without " "),save. set permission of the file (all ticked).
now open file "factorymode" in efs/factoryApp directory, it probabely says "off", change to "on" (yes "on" is the correct setting to turn it off), then save
reboot

Anyone else having this issue?
I have Root Explorer purchased and installed. I am trying to remove/rename the start up/start down sounds. It appears that root explorer is in r/w mode for the folder I am in (Sytem/etc) if I delete the file, it shows "file deleted succesfully". I refresh and it is still there. If I try and copy my new file from the internal sd, it says "file copied succesfully" but it does not show up. I have also tried renaming PowerOn.wav to PowerOn.wav.bak and it takes but I cannot rename it to PowerOn.wav. Then if I verify things with Linda file manager, it shows the file still named PowerOn.wav.bak. How come it's not letting me change the files? Also, hitting the button "Mount R/O" does nothing, it always says the same thing, it never changes to "Mount R/W".
I keep hearing people say it works for them but it's not working for me. I am using stock rooted firmware.
works perfect for me with root explorer... I renamed the original to "orig_PowerOn.wav" and then copy the one I wanted into the folder and named it "PowerOn.wav" (no quotes of course)
Well ****! now it's working. ????
Working well for me. I didn't delete default sounds, i moved them to backup on SD.
This same exact issue happened to me 3 nights ago while changing my shutdown animation. I had to re-boot my phone a few times before Root Explorer worked properly.
I read in the SD-development thread about editing the
"GPS1_CLEANUP_ENABLED=1
HD2 have high current drainage(60mA) in the 0812 build. I noticed in /etc/gps.conf GPS1_CLEANUP_ENABLED was set to 0. After changing the value to 1. Current usage was back to normal 8mA"
I'm currently running the AmericanAndroid SD build and would like to change this value to 1. How do I access this? Using the phone, I went into file manager/etc and found the gps.conf file but how do I edit it? When I plug the phone to my laptop I can only view files from my SD card.
Thanks in advance, and sorry if this is a noob question.
Can anyone help?
During standy the battery drain is a consistent 60-70mA. Nothing is running, background data turned off, no wi-fi, no GPS, no sync.

You need to use a file explorer with root privileges. You can d/l ES File Explorer (or something like it) from the market for free.
When you run it, you'll be prompted to give it root (SU, or superuser) permissions. There's a checkbox in the menu, for you to do this anyway.
Most importantly - since the file system is read only - you'll have to also check the box directly underneath it in the root settings section of the menu to 'Mount File System'. This will make the files writable, so you can save your edits.
In general, you can keep the 'Root Explorer' box checked at all times, but it's not a bad practice to uncheck the Mount File System box when you're done so as to ensure against file changes.
gps.conf is located in the etc directory of the system. The line you want to edit is at the end of the file. When you make your change... don't forget to press the menu button and then press SAVE.
another user had similar problems - so you can take a quick look here...

Backup EFS Upload4me i9500-i9505 work 100%
I tried this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420728
I've got my phone rooted. When I use remount it says .cust_backup/image is rewritable, but when I go to ES File Explorer I can't find the .cust_backup folder to replace the recovery.img in. I can't mount on the pink screen either. So I'm stuck
This is on B526. Google shows zero results on this issue, feels like I'm the only one with this problem?
1- First and most import question your phone must be rooted? If you have custom rom then you have root.
2- After that install root explorer from playstore and then you can see folder "cust_backup" mount "/.cust_backup" as rw.
3- And copy this recovery (you can choose either version) to that folder and tried to reboot should be working.
Sorry if I sound rude, but did you actually read my post lol?
Try this:
Open ES File Explorer and enable Root and Mount RW
Open Settings, press the Menu key then Settings
Scroll Down to Other Settings
Select Root Settings
Check the following Options
Root Explorer
Up to Root
Mount File System

Well I didn't really do what you said, but it got me to search around in the settings and I found "display "." path files" (or whatever it said).
Found the folder

haha! I know what your problem is. The .cust_backup folder is hidden! You must go into ES File Explorer's settings, and file a option that says to show hidden files. If you are on the latest version of ES File Explorer, use these steps:
Open ES File Explorer.
Press the menu button on your phone.
From the menu that opens from the left, select the settings button (located on the bottom-right of the menu that just opened.
Once you are in the settings of ES Fiile Explorer, go into "Display setting".
Then, tick the first option that says "Show hidden files"
Now, go back to the root of your phone and you should be able to see ".cust_backup"
If you have any problems then let me know, but it is very simple. Good Luck

hi iam nikhil
i have not seen persist.radio.lteon.xml file in rootbrowser in samsung s4 i9500what should i do
After you have rooted the device completely, go to Google Play and install 'ES file explorer'. Open the app, and press the menu key on the device and you will get a panel to your left on the screen. Scroll down and enable Rootexplorer (you will ask to grant permission by the SuperSU app since you have rooted, so give permission). Now use the search function and find the file with this EXACT name 'persist.radio.lteon' and delete it. Please make sure you are deleting this exact file. Don't delete anything else and end up bricking your device. After deleting restart the phone and that's it! You will have the LTE/WCDMA/GSM option in the network mode once you are booted and you will receive 4G signals if you are in an area with LTE coverage.

Get another device. The I9500 does not have LTE, and before you ask, you cannot enable it because the hardware is not present.
@chashmaa: Your advice works only if the device has a LTE radio. The I9500 nikhil has doesn't.
My post for busylittlebee(post 1).
@chashmaa: Why would you reply to a post that's nearly two years old? Besides, based upon the time stamps, it appeared you were replying to @nikhil.73.
Big sorry.
