[Q] Can't install CWM - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

I tried this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420728
I've got my phone rooted. When I use remount it says .cust_backup/image is rewritable, but when I go to ES File Explorer I can't find the .cust_backup folder to replace the recovery.img in. I can't mount on the pink screen either. So I'm stuck
This is on B526. Google shows zero results on this issue, feels like I'm the only one with this problem?

1- First and most import question your phone must be rooted? If you have custom rom then you have root.
2- After that install root explorer from playstore and then you can see folder "cust_backup" mount "/.cust_backup" as rw.
3- And copy this recovery (you can choose either version) to that folder and tried to reboot should be working.

Sorry if I sound rude, but did you actually read my post lol?

Try this:
Open ES File Explorer and enable Root and Mount RW
Open Settings, press the Menu key then Settings
Scroll Down to Other Settings
Select Root Settings
Check the following Options
Root Explorer
Up to Root
Mount File System

Well I didn't really do what you said, but it got me to search around in the settings and I found "display "." path files" (or whatever it said).
Found the folder

haha! I know what your problem is. The .cust_backup folder is hidden! You must go into ES File Explorer's settings, and file a option that says to show hidden files. If you are on the latest version of ES File Explorer, use these steps:
Open ES File Explorer.
Press the menu button on your phone.
From the menu that opens from the left, select the settings button (located on the bottom-right of the menu that just opened.
Once you are in the settings of ES Fiile Explorer, go into "Display setting".
Then, tick the first option that says "Show hidden files"
Now, go back to the root of your phone and you should be able to see ".cust_backup"
If you have any problems then let me know, but it is very simple. Good Luck

Vanilla 1.5 Web Browser.

I didn't like the Sense UI Browser because the adress bar took up so much space when the website was loading.
So if you want it follow these directions.
1. Download the browser (mediafire.com/?fn3jkw1mm2m)
2. Mount your Hero.
3. Place the Browser.apk in the root of the sdcard
4. Download and install EStrong File Explorer if you do not already have it.
5. Go to phone settings and then applications and check "Unknown Sources"
6. Then go to the settings of the EStrong file explorer and then press "Root Options"
7. Then press "Root Explorer", click OK to the pop-up, and click "always allow" for SU Permit Pop-up (if you have it, I do not know if this will work without it), and then click CyanogenMod (do not worry)
8.Click "Mount File System"
9. Go back to settings and change the home directory from "/sdcard/" to "/"
10. Go to sdcard through EStrong File Explorer
11. Find the "Browser.apk" and hold it until it gives you a menu
12. click cut
13. click the home icon at top of screen
14. navigate to /system/app/
15. press menu and then operations
16. press paste
17. click yes to pop-up (it is asking you if you want to replace the old Browser.apk, you will not still have the sense web browser)
18. Click install and ok to any pop-ups
All Done. Have Fun.

You need to change the lcd density in /system/build.prop.... Default is 240. Open that file in text editor and should look like for example, lcd density 180. Just use a file explorer with root access such as Es file explorer, or Root explorer. You need to enable read/write access or your changes will not be saved. Then reboot after you make changes.
how much should i keep it so it is exact.....

I am presuming you mean "File Expert"
Do this to allow you to delete system files:
1. Click the menu key and select More.
2. Within that menu click Settings
3. Select "File Explorer Settings"
4. Scroll down and select "Root Explorer"
5. Click "Allow" in the window that pops up
no root button in explorer
Okay let's do this another way.
1. Download ES File Explorer from the Market
2. Open it up and press the menu button and select "Settings"
3. Scroll all the way down and select "Root Explorer" and "Mount File System"
There.
thank worked can this way delet stock apps
You can, but don't get too crazy, some apps are needed for the system to function properly
directory apps system?
/system/app

How do i set up cracked google wallet?

I've tried copying the apk from downloads and pasting it into /system/app but i just get an error saying access denied at the end!

I've tried to find it, but just can't find out for the life of me!
You need Root Explorer, ES Explorer or similar. Before you paste into /system/app you must mount /system as read/write within the app, then paste your file in. Once there, tap and hold on the file and a menu will appear with an option to fix permissions. You need to set owner with read/write and group and world with read only (it looks like rw-r--r--).

Thanks a load both of you
EDIT #2: I've changed the permissions, then something forceclosed, and now i've restarted and am stuck on the google screen on boot not good i assume!
I can't do anything with the device now!

For the latest ES File Explorer v3.03:
On the left hand panel "Tools->Root Explorer->Mount R/W" then pick your preferred options.
I ended up writing the developer to get the answer after searching the Web and only finding an unanswered 7 day old post on his own forum with the exact same question.
Here is another hard to find answer. I consider WebDav on-line storage to be a cloud service but you cannot add a WebDav service under "Network->Cloud". You add your WebDav log-on/server info under "Network->FTP".
The developer could to add more documentation in a FAQ. Over time that will save him time and keep his customers happy. I hate contacting developers directly as I would rather they spend their time maintaining/improving their products but in this case I had no choice. The product if free so some rough edges can be expected.

Thank you very much. I always thought that this option must be in setting. I did not want to switch to another file explorer since ES file provide local file control and FTP file control, which are all I need, with pretty user interface. Therefore I searched for how to turn 'root access' on for weeks but fail.
The developers should properly put it in setting also.

I went looking for answer to why all the checkboxes for changing READ WRITE HIDDEN properties of ANY files are gone from the properties and I was led here. it sounded you guys are answering the questions but the settings screen showed it has already been set to Readable Writable. did anyone of you came across this ? I only noticed those properties checkboxes are gone with the latest version of ES FILE EXPLORER and with them, the ability to modify the properties of any files.

The change properties is there. All you have to do after you set Root Explorer "on" (left panel) and Mount R/W:
- browse to the directory where the file you want to change property is in
- press and hold that file till the file got selected
- press "more" command (at bottom menu bar) and choose "Properties"
- then you get the idea how to proceed
Hi all,
I'm using ES 3.1 and am unable to edit system files.
I have enabled "Root explorer" but there is no Root menu in tools.
Also SuperSU doesn't list ES as either allowed or denied: like ES has never asked root permission.
Any help?

After you set Root Explorer to "ON", tap where it says "Root Explorer", not on the On/Off button. This should bring up the Root Explorer menu. Select Mount R/W and set everything to RW. This should trigger SuperSU to ask to grant root permissions.

I've found that XPrivacy was blocking root access.
Had to disable it, allow root for ES, then re-enable XPrivacy

I found out by accident that I need to change the setting to Mount R/O and NOT Mount R/W for the File Properties tickboxes to appear and tickable. I have no idea why this is happening and I feel silly that I didn't play around the setting earlier and only found out this "solution" one fine morning.

For mine, the solution is to set it to R/O and not R/W. That's why I was stumped for months as I didn't play around the setting and thought that the setting has already been set correctly at R/W. Perhaps, some bugs or misprogramming at the root system level of the phone during the rooting process. I have absolutely no idea but for anyone facing the same problem finding those File Properties tickboxes, this is your possible solution.
What a PITA! ES has been my go-to root explorer for years, now it's a giant hot mess! My problem starts, I suppose, with the Android switch to MTP storage, which I detest with a vengence, it makes the storage a confusing mess of ambiguous mount points. From there, Titanium compounded my issue (that app has been flaky from day 1!) by mis-reporting its inability to save a backup as insufficient storage available, when it was, in fact, a permissions issue on the media mount point. It took some time to figure that out. By then I knew what the issue was and I knew I needed to mount /system to be writable, a task which in the past was simple with ES File Explorer. Not so anymore! Thanks to this thread I did eventually find it, buried in a morass of "features" that nobody will ever use.
Root explorer had been my goto file explorer app since the g1, it simple but has always worked perfect
