I'm fine with Launcher Pro's aesthetics and Sprint's bloatware so I'll probably skip rom'ing altogether. In doing so will I be missing out on anything? My phone also doesn't seem to be running any faster. Using Setcpu I have it set to OnDemand with it clocked to 1200max/600min. Can I go lower on the minimum? Is 1200 stable? Should I expect to see a little more from the battery? What settings should I have everything dialed into to get the best all around stability/speed/battery life (in this order)?
edit: it does seem a little snappier after playing with it for a bit but Fruit Ninja and Angry Birds are showing smaal signs of lag. They don't seem as smooth as when I was running stock.
On demand is buggy conservative is recommended

Gotcha. Also, since I installed Mixup using only Colockworld (without rooting I assume) is it fine to update to 2.2 without flashing it back to stock? How good is the 1.4 kernel I've seen floating around?

With a non stock Kernel I would recommend holding off on 2.2 when it comes out unless you want to flash back to stock completely with Odin. You may try it and see if it works for you, nobody will know til that day though. As for the 1.4 kernel, it is extremely unstable and is almost entirely worthless. Some people have reported it working, but every phone is slightly different so you probably won't know until you try it. You would be much better off getting Herver's 1.3 kernel which is included in Baked Snack 1.3, but this is a ROM with a kernel baked into it so you would no longer be stock. Hope the info helps!

How are you guys liking bionix? whether it be trinity or not?
I really wanna install a custom ROM but im usually faithful to CM, have always been since my G1 so change is hard?

Love it. I come from a Vibrant so got really used to their work. This rom looks just like stock but runs like a banshee. The only thing you really need to know is coming from stock or any other rom make sure you clear everything to insure you don't introduce any bugs. The Trinity kernel seems rock solid, but if you need to use bluetooth don't install until it gets repaired.
I'm really liking the bionix rom. very smooth and fast. however, I'm one of those guys that thinks quadrant scores don't mean ****.

I love the Bionix NS1 ROM for the Nexus S. It's fast, very responsive and there is NO lag to report of. Paired with the Trinity Kernel, it's smokin fast. I haven't really seen much of a battery hit either, which is surprising. It's worth a shot. Go for it.

loving bionix... 3500 baby...and 4G
How about battery life? Any significant drop?
Battery seems the same as it did at stock. I really haven't seen a huge drop as one might expect. As for quadrant scores I too believe feel is far more important than numbers and with my current setup (Bionix w/Trinity14bv3) this no longer "feels" like a phone. It feels more like a rocket covered in melted butter shooting across teflon.

N1 running CM7 nightly #7. Keep in mind the kernel that comes with the N1 version of CM7 is more optimized than the NS version and is over clocked to 1113mHz. N1 also has no SIM card so non-wifi services.
NS running CM7 nightly #5.
Each phone benchmarked several times. Highest scores below.
Quadrant Pro:
N1: 1527
NS: 2448
Same phone setup as listed above but with Smartbench:
N1:
Productivity Index: 1197
Game Index: 1288
NS:
Productivity Index: 1238
Game Index: 3196
cm7 nightly #8 and trinity14b cm7 kernel
one more. this one is also my highest score yet, getting close to the 4000 mark
Currently using CM7 nightly build 186 with stock kernel. Had umaros kernel but it gave me issues so I reinstalled 186 and restored apps with data using TB pro. Looking for an efficient kernel which gives good battery life and excellent performance/ doesn't make my phone overheat :/
So you're saying that you're having bad performance, battery, and heat problems with the stock CM7 kernel? That doesn't sound right. I think you may be having some other issues. What are you overclocking to? are you using the built in CMSettings CPU settings or a different app (SetCPU)? What governor are you using?
I would definitely recommend the stock CM7 kernel. Its a fantastic well rounded kernel that is guaranteed to work perfect with the software.
I agree - you should really use the CM7 kernel it works quiet brilliant.
IMHO all other kernels are not especially made for CM7...
I'm running Pershoots kernel with CM7 and I have it overclocked to 1.5 Ghz. My phone runs great and I'd say the battery lasts pretty much the same amount as it did when I was on stock. Of course when your gaming and stuff and actually using all those gigahertz then your battery life goes down the crapper.
Interestingly enough ... I haven't noticed the phone getting as hot as it used to when I did play games on it ... weird. You'd think overclocking it would cause it to warm it considerably.
yea I'm curious too. I'm running the stock OTA 2.3.4 pre rooted rom and everything works great, but I was wondering if I can improve wifi range or anything else?

No custom kernels for that. And if you were on a different ROM, custom kernels will help with battery or performance (they claim), but not really things like wifi signal.

CM7 and G-lite are pretty close. Considering that the G2 OTA is close to stock AOSP, and these ROMs are made from AOSP they're going to be pretty close...
Why not flash them and try them? You can always go back to a nandroid backup of your stock rooted ROM.
I said that the stock kernel is good, the UmarosKernel drained my battery.
Ok so I was running gingerstreak 2.4.4 with gkernels latest 1.5, but twice in the past 2 days its reset itself and deleted all my data, luckily I had a nandroid backup so ive installed that as im at work and have no access to a oc right now, is this a common problem ?? Is there an easy fix or should I go back to stock? Im gettin really tired of having to reinstall all my apps, and stuff ovrr and over
Which rom is most suitable for stability and good gaming? Im now.back to dsc rom but dunno if ill stick with it
Any help is appreciated

Like you, i have experimented with several ROMS/kernels over the duration of the Streaks (short) lifetime. Everytime i tried a ROM (Streakdroid included), id like it, but something would be missing...(ie. slow hardware acceleration, since i use my streak mainly for gaming).
I have pretty strict criteria for what i expect in a ROM. It must be 2.3 (gingerbread) based or above, it must be able to play 3D (gameloft) games WITHOUT lag, and it must have an OC kernel.
with Power_Rom Lite, i get everything that i want. quadrant scores are through the roof (2000+) with this 2.3.3 based ROM. No lag, quick boot, awesome ICS theme..everything i needed BUT gameloft games ran slow as hell. so then, i decided to mix & max a bit...so i flashed a new kernel over that rom: Power_Mod for GB ROMS v1. GREATEST DECISION I EVER MADE. Quadrant scores suffered a bit (down to 1400+) but now gameloft games run PERFECT with no lag
this combination of ROM/kernel works best for me....
If you really need stability, ask yourself if you really need Gingerbread. All the Gingerbread roms for the streak are still pretty experimental since it was never officially released. I've used pretty much every GB rom to date, but they have all had a few major issues (that all seem to rear their heads a week or two after their installed for some reason )
You may just want to go back to Froyo. Newest version of all the Froyo custom roms should have everything ironed out...
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk
You might also want to consider flashing the dsc 0.62b rom. I personally found it to be the best with no random reboots, no fcs whatsoever and equally good battery life.

Rebooting to factory settings is different than the random reboots. I'm getting this as well and I suspect hardware. I may try going back to froyo, but chances are I'll be buying a Note soon.
I bought my carrier-free Galaxy Tab 10.1 3G in early January, this year, upgraded to latest stock ROM just out-of-the box and after a few days of familiarization pretty frustrated at how slow and laggy it was I flashed KANG ICS and happily used it until a couple of days ago.
I always intended to flash Samsung ICS as soon as it came out because I do like and use most of Samsung apps, services and personalizations and I knew it was gonna be a looong wait BUT the other day I finally snapped and decided to give the stock Honeycomb another try... So I flashed the latest Samsung HC ROM (in the meantime a slightly updated one had come out, 3.2 KL4 instead of 3.2 KL1) and, most importantly, this time I flashed Pershoot's kernel (BTW, AGAIN THANK YOU!!) plus the latest SetCPU bought on the PlayStore, overclocked the Tab to 1400MHz and...... WOW, IT'S USABLE!!!!
Absolutely stable too (but I already knew it from my tests at both 1200 and 1400MHz on KANG ICS where OC isn't so much necessary anyway, and in fact decided to keep it at 1200 MHz).
Now, it still is nothing to write home about but I really like to have the cameras "back" and the overall much better (to me, YMMV) user experience of the Samsung stock ROM.
To be honest if this was all this tablet was ever going to be I would sell it tomorrow but for waiting this dang official ICS update I really think this combo is worth a try, I really was surprised!

Didn't notice big changes between 1000 and 1200 MHz and am not noticing big changes now between 1200 and 1400 MHz. Sorry that I can't give a more precise answer but the fact is that I have never really paid too much attention to battery life because it has simply never been an issue, practically always lasted me a whole day. In almost 5 months the times I have had to give it a quick charge mid-day have been very rare.
Of course use varies a lot from day to day, but even in some days that I have spent the whole day at home (sick, snow, whatever) and used it a lot through the day I made it to the end of the day (OK, in those occasions barely, but still..).
So, what do I use ma Tab for? 60% internet browsing, 20% Youtube, 10% book reading, 10% all the rest (mainly things I do with my Note when out and about or with the PC at home but am too lazy to get up ).
Wi-Fi is of course always on and so is the 3G module (I keep in the TAB a SIM card I use when abroad and need to be able to occasionally send and receive texts on it).
P.S. BTW, the governor has always been set to "Interactive"
On stock HC I was usually able to get 3 or 4 days of battery life. Community ICS ROMs have always left something to be desired in terms of battery life - I get about 2 days with light usage.

Personally I can't say I am seeing big differences between KANG ICS and the current stock one, I mean I am sure there are differences but they mustn't be that big or I would notice.
BTW, I absolutely hate having to recharge the Tab mid-day probably just when I do want to use it so I plug it every night (unless, of course, I have really used it for a very little time).
which kernel did you use exactly? The latest pershoot's kernel seems to be build for ICS.

pershoot is ThE man, it's definetly his kernel what makes the ROM work correctly and not going bye bye after little use like stock kernel.
Other things are addition but in this case, pershoot's work has saved Samsung with this tab. They should pay him big, BIG money.

For example, on stock I used to have the browser close and reload (one of the very reasons I went to KANG ICS). Now, no more!

Yes, to be able to OC the Tab you need root.
Root it, flash CWM recovery and then Pershoot's kernel.
(You can also flash Pershoot's kernel via Odin but once you're rooted why not do it right and get CWM too...)
Lastly, get SetCPU on the market, set the OC at 1200 MHz first (make sure "set on boot" is checked), test if it's stable then set it at 1400 MHz and be done with it (my advice is to leave the rest of the settings alone).
To go back to stock my advice is to flash the stock ROM via Odin (you can download them on samfirmware, for example) and do a full wipe/factory reset.

Yes, that's the thread I too used to root and get CWM.
Stock recovery? I don't think so and as I said once rooted there really is no reason at all to not get CWM also (being able to do nandroid backups by itself makes it worth it).
If you follow the instructions in the thread you linked, once you are rooted getting CWM is a piece of cake.
OK, I just tried it too and the tab now is noticeable faster and scrolling is smoother. I rooted it, flashed cwm recovery, installed setcpu and now it runs at 1.4ghz. The reason I want to know how to go back to stock recovery is if I have to send it to service or decide to sell it. Is the one in the link I posted compatible?
