Hi everyone,
Ill apologize in advance, i am a complete noob, and this is my first venture into rooting and such. As a result I dont know what I am doing and now my phone is stuck in boot. I was trying to perform the wifi hotspot mod on my MDL rooted GS4 using the root file manager method. Obviously I messed something up because when i transferred the files, the phone immediately rebooted itself and got stuck booting on the sprint screen. I am looking for some help on how to get my phone working again. I am thinking I will need to flash the stock rom onto the device and start from scratch. Is this correct? I am totally lost and I know I should search to figure it out but I need to get my phone up and working again.
Thanks for the help.

You can flash any version of the one-clicks, including the "No data" ones for this.
Once the ROM mods are cleaned out it should boot again.
I still havent flashed a rom yet. So I assume I would use odin to flash? Where would I find these "one-clicks"? What does the "no data" version mean? Is 3.07 the most recent version of odin? Just want to make sure I have all the settings right.
Again, thanks so much for the help.
I had this issue yesterday you need to flash stock mdc then apply the update then root using the cf auto root method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2291827

Got it working! Thanks guys for helping and dealing with my ignorance. I think I'm slowly figuring this stuff out. It was just stressful as it took about 6 hours to download the stock firmware.

Try flashing Philz Touch recovery, its the most stable recovery imo. Available for both the I9500 and I9505.Flash the .tar file with Odin in PDA.
I keep getting the message e signature verification failed. i have used auto root. i have enabled usb debugging. i have done everything in the steps of the rooting process and flashing process.
Slight progress
So I downloaded CWM recovery again and toggled off signature verification and I successfully managed to install my ROM. New porblem now, when I reboot the device it goes straight back to recovery mode every single time? Help please?
Hi - so I dont know if you guys think Im being stupid and/or lazy and havent found the right thread or if I am just asking a stupid question. If I am would someone kindly point me in the right direction and forgive my ignorance. If I am not being stupid can someone PLEASE help me with an answer. I have posted on several forums with this question and no one seems prepared to offer a solution. This is by no means a rant at forum members - I just hate being defeated by technology - and I have waited a week now for someone to offer me some much needed guidance.
I mistakenly followed QBking77's old video to enable native wifi hotspot and it ended up getting my phone stuck on the sprint boot screen.
Now I am trying to follow instructions to fix the problem in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2553668
I can't seem to find the correct tar file I need to flash using odin. Can someone please provide a link and/or instructions on how to find the file I need to fix this problem? Any additional instruction is greatly appreciated. I have learned my lesson about using old videos and reading the comments before I follow a video.
My phone is a sprint galaxy s4 (sph-L720) running android 4.3
I had just rooted the device using QBking77's rooting video prior to trying the wifi hotspot mod.
Thank you so much for any help you can provide.

Simple first thing to try would be to boot to recovery and try a Factory reset.
THEN spend some time reading, searching and reading some more. If you have a new device that came with MK2 you REALLY must do some reading as to what you can and can't do.
You also didn't say if you installed a custom recovery or not.

Sorry. I had not installed a custom recovery yet. That was next on my to do list.
As far as a factory reset. It looks like people were able to correct the problem and save all their data using the method in the post I mentioned before. However, as I said, I can not seem to find where to download the correct file from. Since I just rooted my device I had not backed up my data yet... another stupid mistake I won't make again.

Boot to stock recovery and do a factory reset.
Also, your device is of newer firmware so IF you wanted to pc Odin stock Rom you'd have to grab the mk2 one

A factory reset will not work in this case, the files that were modded are in the system/framework folder. A factory reset only resets the data partition. You have 2 choices at this point. Odin the MK2 tar file to return you phone to stock and then reroot your phone. Install a custom recovery and then flash the correct hotspot mod found below.
Or, if you have a custom recovery installed, you can try to flash the hotspot mod below to correct your errors. If you don't have a custom recovery installed then try to odin one to your phone and install the mod below.
If you tried to do a manual hotspot mod, you probably forgot to set the permissions after copying the files so you can try the fix permissions setting in a custom recovery also.
First want to say hi and that this site is full of knowledge so any help with my subject will be great.
Got a att s4 sgh-i337 phone. I rooted it before the lollipop ota update was out and everything went fine. Then the lollipop update came out and I followed one of the methods on keeping root and updating to 5.0.1 lollipop on the phone. Everything went fine with that. Still showed root status and never did the phone brick or have any issues in the updating.
At some point though, I did run triangle away because I would have the custom logo and opened padlock when the phone would boot up. I knew it wasn't a huge deal but the counter showed correct and never could just figure out how to get it to go away. Either way, I did run it and I think rebooting twice, the factory loading image came back to it. Now it shows my current status as 0 for the counter and the binary is Official.
I have not tried to load any roms or nothing like this to the phone, just followed the instructions to give it root access so I could run a few different apps and adaway for when I listen to Spotify.
One day, I was trying to install a new version of Words with Friends and it failed because I think wwf was open, but I did go back and install it. For some reason now, my phone never notifies my with a wwf notification when somebody plays me. Every now and then, it might pop up when I restart the phone but that is it. I don't think facebook notifies me everytime also but was more worried about words with friends.
Searching google, it says to go into recovery mode and flash the cache of the phone there. I have done the cache memory in the phone but that has not fixed my problem. When trying to go to recovery, it never works, it would always show, recovery booting and then load the phone up as normal.
I have download quick boot and rom manager since they all have an option to boot into recovery rather than pressing the buttons but it always does the same thing. Reading the web though, it seemed like I needed to install a different recovery than the factory I guess, so using rom manager, I tried twrp and that didn't work so I installed ClockworldMod 6.0.4.7. Rom manager shows that as the current recovery method.
When I try to boot into recovery, it still shows that recovery is booting and then goes straight to loading the phone as it should normally.
Now though, every time I restart my phone, it says recovery is trying to boot but never does.
How do I fix my phone to be able to boot into recovery and it not try to boot every time it powers on. I have tried searching google but I just just can find an answer to my direct problem. I know how to hold the buttons and go to recovery but does not work, and I also know how to get to it from the different app programs(rom manager and quick boot) but they do not work either. It would be nice to get the wwf notifications to work properly again also.
If you need any information from my phone, please ask. Thanks for any help on my matter,
Charlie
Odin stock and start over.
Apparently, you are not aware that the boot loader is locked, preventing the installation of a custom kernel. You can not use twrp, or rom manager. Rom manager itself may cause issues.
I agree you should flash back to stock and start over to get a clean install. Hopefully, this will solve the issues with notifications as well. You can use the "[GUIDE]Odin to Stock, Updating, Rooting, and Installing Safestrap" by guut13 in the general forum for files and instructions.

Thanks for the replies guys, I really don't know a whole lot about rooting other than following instructions about it. I was unaware you could not use the twrp or cwr as a recovery. My recovery did not work before so that is why I was trying to install those. I knew you could not install custom roms but I did not know that you could not use rom manager to install custom recoveries.
I appreciate the help so far and I will look into that thread you mentioned. I haven't read it but will this take me back to stock lollipop 5.0.1 and I just reinstall apps or will I have to re-root the phone.
Charlie
please delete, sorry
Charlie
You have to go back to 4.4.4, to the nb1 base, root with towelroot, and then use the keeproot method to get back to 5.0.1 rooted. The instructions are in the guide, and also a link to the keeproot thread is there.
By the way, for future reference, questions, help and troubleshooting issues should go in the Q&A forum, not the general forum.
not having any luck
Ok guys,
I am trying to follow the guide but not having much luck.
I downloaded the I337UCUFNB1_4.4_Stock_Odin_tar and put it in the AP Odin file. I'm not sure if I should be using it or the other file named I337UCUFNB1_4.4_Rootable_Stock_Odin_tar to begin with. The instructions said to use the first one so that is the one I was trying to use.
After putting the first file in the AP slot of Odin and hitting start, it begins to try to do it's thing and then says it fails!
What do I do now? Am I doing something wrong or what because I'm trying to follow instructions but not having much luck.
Please help. Sorry for posting in the wrong area also in the beginning.
Charlie
I'm screwed
Now when I turn my phone on, it says Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again?
doing better now
Pretty sure I got it going finally. I changed cords and then changed ports on my computer and it finally did go back to stock without an error. I'm currently back on Lollipop and rooted so now is the fun of reinstalling contact info and anything else. So far I have not rebooted but it was not showing the recovery booting option when it did reboot. Hoping my notifications work properly now also!
Thanks!!!
Charlie
Hello everyone! I'm brand new to the forums so if I am breaking any rule or regulation, just give me a heads up. So, some basic information about my predicament.
- own a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 from Verizon.
- I use t-mobile network. Works great with no problems.
- phone was successfully rooted via towel root.
I was looking to get cynagenmod on the phone so I started looking up guides and such. Only thing I wasn't aware of was that carrier branded versions can't have their recovery flashed. That said, I used flashify and the clockwork apk. The app did its job, killed the stock recovery, but couldn't load the new one. Now the phone says error, no recovery when trying to access it during boot.
It should be said that the phone still boots and works normally but I really want to get the recovery working so I can at least try again the right way to get cynagenmod working.
My question is, is it possible to get my hands on the stock recovery for my phone and just flash it back to how it was? Basically, how do I fix this problem I put myself in. Of course, I didn't make backups. During the whole process, I figured "if I follow this tutorial word for word, why bother with backups?" look how wrong I was
Any help would be sincerely appreciated. I'm posting this from my replacement phone, not my note 3.
Ok guys, I'm really confused. I got this phone from a friend and the backstory was that it was once rooted and running a custom rom with google play apps, but someone did a hard reset or something and it went back to stock, which is hard to believe, but that's what they're telling me. If the info is correct, that means someone successfully flashed it at some point.
I found this guide https://www.lineageosroms.org/forums/forum/samsung/galaxy-s5-china-sm-g9006v-sm-g9008v-kltechn/ and got stuck right away. I can't get TWRP to work. Odin says it's done, but all I get is the stock recovery.
I found multiple threads about this phone, but it's all very confusing to say the least and I don't know where to begin with. I hope there's someone here using it who can give me some pointers as to how I can flash this thing.
Thanks in advance.
EUREKA! I've done it. All i had to do is uncheck the auto reboot option and use the key combination for entering recovery while still in the download mode. That got me to TWRP and I was able to successfully flash the rom and gapps.
Hope that info is useful to someone else.
