Can I swipe a contact to call them? I can swipe a contact to the left to text them, but if I swipe it to the right (like I could on my GS3) it doesn't do anything. Am I missing something?

Yes you can, just make sure you start your swipe on the text part of the contact and not the picture.

Hey Guys,
This is driving me NUTS :silly:
Did samsung take out the swipe to call feature out of the S4? I try to swipe to the right on a text message or contact to call that person....but all i get is a drop down box with their name/phone numbers.
No it works but its difficult to swipe to call and swipe to text is easy
To swipe to call start swipe beside the contact picture and not on it....They changed it i dont know why....
Still works

I found it best if you swipe left then quick right

Here's a easier way. Touch the middle of the contact and swipe to call. It works better from the middle.

Swwweeeettttttt! Thanks to all that replied..thanks to all
Why when a message is displayed on my lockscreen, clicking it creates a box below that i then have to swipe on to unlock the phone in the messages app?
What's the point of creating that faded box? why not just open the app when i click on the text message?
I agree it's very annoying...
To prevent opening in your pocket...

This is happening even with no lock on the screen - just swipe to unlock? I don't know because I have a pattern lock and assumed it was just for security but if you keep your phone unlocked and it's still happening then I agree, it's stupid. No lockscreen widgets when using any kind of security is also stupid in my opinion.

I only have swipe to unlock and it happens on it..
Seriously a 'feature' I can do without..
I think it would be nice if you could swipe the message notification on the lock screen to open that message. Similar to the S3.

I agree. Now that option only appears if you have your lockscreen timeout set for a few minutes and you manually lock the screen. When you unlock within the timeout period it will show your lockscreen widgets and you can swipe them to go right into that app.
Someone at Samsung over thought this one.

I agree. I liked when they had the puzzle piece, and you swiped to "complete" the puzzle, and that would take you to the message. I think that was back on the S2?
I just drag notification bar down then click the message.

you press the notification then swipe in that box and it will take you the message
Guys, all you have to do is swipe down the box to open the message or view the call log (if it was a missed call).

Don't blame Samsung for this, it's an Android 4.2 "feature".

Thank you captain obvious :silly:
Of course that's "all you have to do". But my point is that it's silly that it creates that box in the first place after you click the message. It looks like they tried to implement something then quit halfway through.

You're not understanding... That transparent box does not show if you do it right. When I get a text message, a small message box will appear, I swipe it down to the bottom of the screen and it takes me directly to the messaging app.
EDIT: It's more of a tap then pull, I should make a video...

yes i can make that happen too.. i still dont get the box though.. why is it there in the first place.. what are they trying to do here?
Once the box is there, you can swipe left or right for other widgets if you have multi widgets in settings setup

In the pool party commercial for the S4, they show a girl checking her text message on her lock screen by hovering her finger over the "New Message" box on the lock screen.
Here is a link. It happens around 1 minute:

Maybe it's not a lock screen but a widget of some sort? It looks like either a lock screen or home screen.
True. Can't tell but it's either home screen or Lockscreen. Both where previews don't work with air view?

I wasn't able to get it to work on the lock screen. The box shows up looking just like the commercial but hovering my hand doesn't do anything. I'm wondering if this is a feature not in the AT&T version... I tried doing it as a widget on the home screen but it also didn't work with air view.

You have to click to the left of the on off toggle for air view in the settings.. It will bring up a menu and make sure information preview is selected.. Also if the whole message can be seen in the message preview on the lock screen it won't air view... It has to be more than the preview can show

So have you gotten it to work? In my lock screen, the box says "New Message" but doesn't show ANY of the text. Do I need to make a new widget on my lock screen or something? Air view isn't working over the standard "New Message" box that shows up on the lock screen by default. If you could take a pic of where the air view is working for you on the lock screen, that would be great.
Yeah after figuring it out I've been using it a few days now... If its not showing any part of the message open the messaging app.. Then settings and make sure message preview is checked

I'm going to reiterate the steps since I think I wasn't clear enough in the first post I made here..
To enable airview and get the messaging preview from it like the pool party commercial is a two step process Samsung did not enable the information preview from the factory so you must do this yourself..
Step one: goto your phones settings then my device and scroll down to airview.. Make sure the button next to the word airview is green THEN tap the word airview and it will open a sub menu with 5 settings in it.. Make sure information preview is turned on and green
Step 2: open the messaging app and hit the menu button to access settings..scroll down to notification settings and make sure message preview is checked off with the green check mark (again Samsung did not enable this by default so you must check it yourself)
To test text yourself or have someone text you with a few sentences and hover your finger over the notification on the lock screen it will bring up the bubble like in the commercial.
If the entire message can be seen in the preview on the lock screen (ex: hey) then airview will not doing anything here.. Its only for messages larger than the preview can display..
If your notification on the lock screen only shows 1 new message you do not have message preview enabled under the messaging app..
Airview and information preview will allow you to hover over your calendar (app not widget), and in the email app (not gmail) as well.
Also yes I am on an AT&T S4

I can't seem to get air view to work with my text message threads. I open the stock text message app once it opens to all of the text conversation threads I hover over any of them and nothing. I have air view turned on and I also have preview enabled in the text settings. Help will be much appreciated.

I dont see a link hole when I hover over it. I'm guessing that based on what your saying if the text reply isnt long enough airveiw will not work? The threads i have in text are short replies 2-5 worded responses. Am I guessing correct?

There's no need for a button. If you scroll your contact from left to right - it will call him. If you scroll on contact with your finger from right to left it will send him an SMS. I know that works on stock rom, not sure about others.

no no its not the google, speak and screen shot app its all the apps installed on the phone in one quick menu but you can edit which ones you want on the menu
App Panel
Darkfang, i am guessing you are referring to the app panel. The only way i know for it to show is if it is set to pop up when, ie: dock phone, plug in headphones, usb storage. I never use it and dont know another way to make it pop up. You can find the setting for what i mentioned under settings-->general-->accessory.
