I'm new to the world of GSM as I've been on Sprint for 7 years. I'm trying to understand how it works before I take a trip.
I have a Nexus 4 purchased from The play store. I'm going to France and had a family member in Paris pick up an SFR Red SIM for me to use while on the trip. Is it as simple as putting the SIM in the phone and it works, or do I need to mess with APN settings and such for everything to work?
Any tips for the travel would be great.
Thanks.
Steve

It will probably be that simple. The sim card will get recognised and the right apn settings will be applied as all major provider settings are included in your nexus 4. If for some reason that isn't the case than you can google the right apn settings.

Hello,
Im a verizon customer (only carrier here that actually works and have GREAT coverage). But I wanted a device that I could use to remote my servers that had a great screen and processing power. So as you can probably tell, i flipped when I saw the note and picked up one right away.
But now my problem. I see that there are updates out and such, but I don't have an ATT account. When I go to update the note it just tells me that I don't have a sim card. How can I update my device without a sim card.
I tried to look this up, but didn't get far (I guess most people here have an ATT account or a GSM carrier). So is there anything I can do to update my Note. (I purchase an unlocked one, if that helps any).
Thanks in advance
Ah buy pay as you go sim or borrow one.

Just to start, i have never been able to connect to 4g on my i9505. When i got the phone 4g was not available with my carrier, so i rooted the phone and flashed a custom rom right away. Once 4g was rolled out (i have the option in settings for lte) i was never able to connect.
I have tried almost everything you could think of, i am using the correct modem for my carrier and region (Australia, Vodafone). The app viaero 4G toggle to set the phone to only use LTE only to test if that works but it results in no network found.
My last step which I'm thinking probably won't work but you never know, is a full wipe and flashing back to an Australian stock rom.
It seems as though the phone doesn't have the 4g radio installed.
Could this be possible? Maybe i have a dodgy unit, and if so what do the experts here think should do?
After some advice and insight from the people here at XDA!
I hope i get done replies!
Are you sure you sim card allow you to use the 4G network? May be you need a new sim card. (This is my case)

That's an interesting thought. I might ask my carrier about getting a new card as i didn't get one when i upgraded my contact.
I didn't think sim cards had any affect on network performance though?
Here în Romania i had to change my sim to a 4g compatible one

Thanks for those quick replies guys. I'll try the sim first as doing a full wipe and reinstall is time consuming.
I'll update after I've tried a new sim
Yep u definitely need an LTE activated/capable sim. At least this was the case on my carrier. You should probably ask more about this with your carrier

you need to change an lte capable sim card and make sure lte is activated in your account. i have read somewhere in this forum and have a checklist of all possible solutions and the last thing i did was have my sim card changed anf told my carrier that it should be lte capable since lte is already activated on my account and it worked for me. i'm on H3G Italy.
BTW LTE capable vodafone sim card here in italy has a 4G mark at the back, maybe it should be the same there in your place as you say vodafone is your carrier.
So I just got a nexus 4 from a cousin in the US that brought it to Mexico for me, I am trying to use my microSIM from my note2 but it will not read it, my carrier here is Telcel and if I got to movile networks and search for network operators it does find mine (Telcel) but it will not read the SIM, any ideas what it could be?

I think its not fitting properly in the sim tray.
remove it and fit it properly in the tray or else I doubt you need to order another micro sim from Telcel.

yeah, i came here and asked first before doing some research and it seems that might be it :/ its a cuted sim and it seems the nexus 4 has some issues with does if they are not done properly.
I will go to telcel tomorrow, thanks.
I bought a microsim from telcel and it did not work, the phone does not recognize it, the phones from Google come sim unlocked right?

Hey guys so ive got a question, atm ive got the T-Mobile $30/Month plan, and i just purchased a $15 sim and $45 unlimited plan from straight talk just to try it out. Anyway so when i get the sim and what not can i just take my T-Mo one out and put in the Straight Talk one and it should work or are there any changes I need to make. Also is this going to change my phone number and stuff as well?
Thanks

Yes, you can just replace the TMO sim with the ST sim and it should work, though you may have to go into network settings and manually select the correct mobile network. There should be instructions included with the ST sim card.
Yes, there will be a different phone number associated with the StraightTalk sim.
OK thanks and just to clarify so after it assigns the new straight talk number and I switch back to the t mobile Sim will the number go back to the original one

That's correct. The phone numbers are associated with their respective sim cards.
OK cool thanks

I have flashed 2 different images downloaded from Google and have even tried to install CleanRom. My issue is I get LTE data and can even receive messages, but absolutely no calls in or out. *#*#4636#*#* shows emergency calls only. This same sim works on my old phone still. My APN is exactly the same as my wife's Note 3 so that isn't the problem either. Can anybody help me figure out what is going on and how to fix it. Thanks
CDMA/LTE checked in the cellular network settings under preferred mobile type?

You can cut your sim down to nano... They even sell sim cutters that punch out the different sizes.

I put my verizon nano sim card from my s6 and it just worked for me. Stock unrooted.
Yeah, I have CDMA/LTE checked and have a nano sim in.
With no solution in sight, i contacted Huawei customer service and am supposed to be getting an RMA label today. They said it will ship back for repairs and be gone 10-14 days.

Archaleus,
Did you get your phone back yet? Did it work out of the box?

Are you curious if Verizon works on the 6P? Because I am on Verizon and everything works as it should. Just pop in an active nano sim.
