hello. i've been trying to root my kfhd7" for more than a week now.
i've tried almost everything here on xda. also on google. and nothing made a chance.
this kindle is a unregistered kindle. i got it from cash converters for 50 pounds.
i cannot register it.
i've done all, drivers.adb.eclipse.sdk. nothing goes like it says on forums.
7.3.1_user_3140720
if anyone knows how to root and push twrp, let me know, please.
thx in advance.
What were you using to try to root it? Also i figured i would ask but your using windows right? I personally use linux to root mine because i don't have to worry about driver issues typically and i prefer linux but i can help you out probably on windows. Also u have adb enable on th kindle correct?

yea i got adb. i rooted my hox+ 2 months ago.
I am going to throw a random guess out there based on experience with windows 8. Windows 8 has a nasty little feature i think vist ha that i didnt see in windows 7 about unsigned drivers. Last i checked when usine the adb driver on windows u hav to modify the one that come with the sdk, not very difficult if you know what your doing, problem was i can remember if the drivers were originally signe or not but by modifying them to accept the kindle adb interface it wouldn't let it be considered signed because it was tampered with so windows 8 would throw a fit an not let the drivers install. That's just what happened last time i used window 8. I don't know if this i your problem but if you open a command prompt and run adb devices with the kindle plugged in with adb enabled what is the response.

Ok weird seems like driver aren't the issue, usually on windows 8 that's what i check first, unless that happen to be your phone or something but i would throw a guess that having the emulator running at the same time might cause problems. I may not respond for like half an hour i have to go somewhere but il be back in a bit. If worst comes to worst i can always use teamviewer to help you unless your uncomfortable with that. I feel kind odd suggesting that on a forum, but that's how i usually help people. Anyways i would disable that emulator and try rooting again.

This is aggravating, i would be pretty sure you're having issues because of more than one adb device but i have no way of knowing, nor do i know how to kill that emu offhand. I am curious because i haven't seen this scenario before, but if u type "adb shell" does it present u with choose which device or anything like that?

I've had no issues rooting 7.3.1 and new 7.4.1 firmware using the Bin4ry method. I did it on Windows 7 and have not tried on windows 8. You should not need sdk or adb to get it to work. Just properly installed drivers. Checkout my guide here.
i've done it from my gf's laptop. she has windows 7. windows 8 is a pain. thx for your help guys.

Quick question... anyone have a link to get the adb driver folder for the KF? And what KFU version should I use. I heard v.9 had problems and I should use v.7. Any truth to this?

use last version - drivers are included - be shure to install theese before using kfu (install_drivers.bat)
Thanks a ton! That was my next question. So pumped to root. Thanks again

The latest version is 9.1 when I last saw, but check and use the most recent. Worked like a charm for me.
Most problems occur when you don't have the proper drivers installed and there is no communication between Windows and the KF, so make sure they can speak.

I've rooted about 4-5 different android phones and the kindle fire. Nothing causes more problems then getting the drivers to work. It's always been the part that causes me problems (if I run into any) and on the internet it's almost always what causes people problems when rooting.

is there a way to tell that my drivers are installed properly and working and I am in good shape to begin the root. I would hate to think that I had installed the drivers properly then begin to root, only to find out that the drives were not installed correctly and f*** my kindle up.
Thanks everybody

I used v.9, and it seems that the utility is having a hard time downloading the TWRP recovery image. I checked the size of the file it downloaded, and it was only about 8 KB, while the actual image is 10 MB. I know v.7 works, though, since I used it initially.
Sorry for the noob question but I haven't been able to figure this out. I just bought my son a Nook Color and I'm trying to root it. I can't get the drivers to install. I already have ADB installed from when I rooted my Kindle Fire. Every time I plug in the Nook, Windows installed the drivers automatically. I tried manually updating but it always says the best driver is installed. I tried some of the batch files other people created but nothing has worked. Any help would be appreciated. I hate being locked down.

Just a question why do you even need to install the drivers? They are not needed for root and then after you root you can use wireless adb which is a lot easier to set up and use.

If you just want to installthe Amazon app, then why you head into the ADB over USB thingy? Who lead you through that way?

Hey guys,
I've searched high and low in this forum and others for a solution to my problem, I have been unable to find one. I'm looking for a way to sideload apps onto a Kindle Fire so that, after the third party app has been installed, I can clear the Launcher data and the next time I start the device it boots to the setup and welcome screens like the very first boot.
The reason I want to avoid rooting or having to download a file manager app to the device is that I am planning to create a script for the process.
Any advice or links to a helpful guide?

Now I'm confused, on the Android Forums you said it was so you could give it to someone as a gift and you wanted to give them the "first-time use" experience. I really don't see anyone needing a script for something like this but I may be wrong.
It's more of a fun project for me than anything else, a Kindle Fire loaded with apps makes for a great and affordable gift and I have other family members who I intend to give the Kindle Fire to as a gift. But I don't want them to feel as though I've been mucking with it

I completely understand, I still think the easiest way would be to just use ES file explorer, or something similar, to install them and then just delete the app. Maybe someone here will have a different idea.

Perhaps. Can you link me to any guides on this?
Are you trying to make a script that will be run on a computer or on the Fire itself? If you're running the script on an actual device (terminal emulator, gscript, etc):
Code:
pm install /path/to/file.apk
In that case the .apk will need to be copied onto the device first. If you're running a script from a computer and have the device plugged in via USB you can use:
Code:
adb install /path/to/file.apk
...and for that one the .apk needs to be on your computer somewhere. I know 'adb install' doesn't require root. I don't remember if 'pm install' does, but I think it doesn't. Either way, you just need to get a copy of the .apks you want to install.
Cant you just reset the device to factory defaults from the settings?

Hello,
I have just rooted my samsung galaxy tab. I have lost 180 holiday foto's en i read that with Hexamob, yu can get them back. But when i start that app , it says that i don't have root permissions. Fix this from your superuser app.
I rooted my tab. I have got superuser, but still it doensn't work.
Can anyone tell me what i have done wrong.
Are you sure the app has root permission? If you aren't, open Superuser, and "Hexamob Recovery" must be in the "allow" list.
If it's not there, open Superuser, then (without killing Superuser) open "Hexamob Recovery" (a prompt from superuser will pop) and allow root permission.
finally i got soperuser working. something with the permission for usb controlling.
But I still can find my device in Hexamob. Normally I can use recuva to get delete files back, but that also doens't work. It also doesn't see my divice. Is there another way to get deleted files or foto's back, from a tablet?
Maybe you could try another app, e.g.: Undelete
Is there als o a way, that you can connect your tablet to your pc en use your pc to searce throw your tablet?
When i connect my tablet on my pc i can see and open the folders on my tablet, but i can't use any programs to searce throw the tablet

It's something to do with mtp mode and the tab not being mass storage recognized by the PC. I've seen a thread where Misledz dealt with this. Can't remember if it was ever resolved but some searching might get you some more info about it being possible or what solution, if any they came up with.
Hope this helps.

Thanks! But do you have to do this every time you reboot or do you need to do this just once and it sticks? And what will happen if you update firmware (minor update)? Do you have to do it again?

You have to do it once / release. When you upgrade, these types of settings are usually volatile. I just cut & paste it and do it once / version. It's working for me now on b360.
Edit: I thought about that some more and forgot that I had to rollback to 162 before I went back up to 360. Rollback kills all data, so maybe I had to enter the permissions statement due to that.

I've done it once when upgrading to b360 Nougat and it has held and worked fine through a few reboots and a number of system changes. So, .. once should do it, but I'd never expect it to outlast an upgrade of OS.
I can't seem to get this to work. I've tried three times now and restarted the app and my phone every time.
I also tried including "-d" between "adb" and "shell" in the command (I saw this version on another page) but still nothing.

You don't normally need the -d unless you've currently got more than one usb connected phone that adb could get to.
This command comes documented straight out of the latest version of GSAM. It actually tells you under help or in settings. I don't have a phone in front of me but the command is identical to whatever I put ^^ up there. I just tried this command on an unrooted Oneplus 5 running 7.1.1 and it worked fine there as well.
I wonder if there's any way you could have installed it without some basic permission that's a prerequisite for the usually unshown android.permission.BATTERY_STATS permission. You could go into apps and permissions and make sure it's got permission to write or whatever it's basic permissions should be. There's probably two or three.

Did you "force-close" the app after you enabled storage and reenabled the android.permission.BATTERY_STATS? If so, other than uninstall/reinstall and try again, I'm not sure. Are you running stock OS? There can always be something quirky in anyone's install that I'll never figure out. Good luck.
The only thing I recall is that the command doesn't do anything until after you've executed it, force closed and re-started the app. If it doesn't work then, then something else is going on.

I basically followed instructions from the apps.
I installed adb, device drivers, then in cmd, "adb devices" then "adb shell pm grant app_goes_here android.permission.BATTERY_STATS".
It worked once for BBS and GSAM, but never stuck. Now it doesn't work at all.

Mine worked until I rooted at which point root takes care of that problem without the shell command.
The one thing I can think of is that the command differs (I read this somewhere) if you have GSAMPRO rather than GSAM (by just a word) and you'd have to google the correct word and substitute it. I got this the first time I started GSAM in an unrooted environment and just noted it. It showed up in a dialogue box on GSAM.
What iam doing wrong? :
adb>adb shell pm grant com.gsamlabs.bbm android.permission.BATTERY_STATS
Bad argument: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Unknown package: com.gsamlabs.bbm
Edit: problem solved: I have the Pro version and so the item was: 'com.gsamlabs.bbm.pro'
