Kindle fire adb driver and utility version question - Kindle Fire General

Quick question... anyone have a link to get the adb driver folder for the KF? And what KFU version should I use. I heard v.9 had problems and I should use v.7. Any truth to this?
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium

use last version - drivers are included - be shure to install theese before using kfu (install_drivers.bat)

Thanks a ton! That was my next question. So pumped to root. Thanks again

The latest version is 9.1 when I last saw, but check and use the most recent. Worked like a charm for me.
Most problems occur when you don't have the proper drivers installed and there is no communication between Windows and the KF, so make sure they can speak.

I've rooted about 4-5 different android phones and the kindle fire. Nothing causes more problems then getting the drivers to work. It's always been the part that causes me problems (if I run into any) and on the internet it's almost always what causes people problems when rooting.

is there a way to tell that my drivers are installed properly and working and I am in good shape to begin the root. I would hate to think that I had installed the drivers properly then begin to root, only to find out that the drives were not installed correctly and f*** my kindle up.
Thanks everybody

I used v.9, and it seems that the utility is having a hard time downloading the TWRP recovery image. I checked the size of the file it downloaded, and it was only about 8 KB, while the actual image is 10 MB. I know v.7 works, though, since I used it initially.

[Q] android market apps will not download

Hi guys,
I have rooted my kindle fire with burritoroot and i got the market to work with openmarket. I am able to log in successfully and hit install on several apps. They sit at download starting. I have rebooted several times. Any ideas on a fix. I have also tried the web store and the same result.
Thanks
Update, I have also tried it at work and I am still getting the same problem with the download just sitting at starting download.
Go to applications, and select the market. Then clear Data.
Try it again.

I tried this and still the same result, I also went on my home router and forwarded port 5228 because I read on several sites that is the port that the android market uses.
I use many android devices in the same site without having to forward anything. I doubt that is your issue.

Ok, I was just trying to rule out anything on the my network end while trying to troubleshoot the device.
Would i be able to download apps from the android market on my computer and transfer them to my fire?
I am going to try putting the google talk app on the fire and seeing if i can sign in to see if that fixes the issue. I have read in many places that it fixes it for many android phones.

You may be using an older version of the market. The instrucions say to use vending.apk, but I actually ended up having to use com.amarket.apk. A lot of people were having this issue. Repeat the data/cache wipe after installing the new one.

Yes, or just pull them from your phone. Dropbox is very handy for sideloading apps. Just make sure you have installation of unknown sources enabled under Settings>More>Device
I see you're new to the forums. Please remember to use the search as often as possible. I know there is a lot of stuff to sift through, but creating threads for questions that have answers readily available makes it that much harder to find substantive info. Plus you'll miss out on all the fun of trial and error.
should i uninstall market opener and vending.apk before i install the the other market app?

Oh ok I was going to suggest turning off the firewall to download but nevermind. Its almost definitely the vending.apk vs com.amarket.apk issue. I had a similar problem. Also, for some reason File Expert would not keep the permissions changed when I changed them. I sideloaded Root Explorer and it worked like a charm. Good luck getting it working.

Can't install drivers

Sorry for the noob question but I haven't been able to figure this out. I just bought my son a Nook Color and I'm trying to root it. I can't get the drivers to install. I already have ADB installed from when I rooted my Kindle Fire. Every time I plug in the Nook, Windows installed the drivers automatically. I tried manually updating but it always says the best driver is installed. I tried some of the batch files other people created but nothing has worked. Any help would be appreciated. I hate being locked down.

Just a question why do you even need to install the drivers? They are not needed for root and then after you root you can use wireless adb which is a lot easier to set up and use.

If you just want to installthe Amazon app, then why you head into the ADB over USB thingy? Who lead you through that way?
I can help but it's irrelevant to get the Amazon app install and running.

[HOW TO] *New Instructions* Add Amazon VOD to Android Phone

*NEW INSTRUCTIONS*
Today I figured out how to get Amazon Video On Demand app on my phone and watch videos
I did this with a rooted phone, I am not sure if you phone needs to be rooted to accomplish this task. I have attached the required files to accomplish this task. These steps are assuming you have a rooted phone.
REQUIREMENTS:
Download attached APKs
Wireless connectivity
VooDoo OTA for rooted phones (https://market.android.com/details?id=org.projectvoodoo.otarootkeeper)
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Copy downloaded APKs to your phone
2. Install each APK and make sure to click DONE after each installs
3. Enable phones Wireless and connect via WiFi
4. Go to your phone SETTINGS>ACCOUNT AND SYNC
5. Press ADD ACCOUNT
6. Press AMAZON and enter your Amazon Prime credentials
7. Start the VooDoo OTA app
8. Press TEMP.UN-ROOT and allow the program to temporarily unroot your phone
9. Reboot your phone
10. When the phone comes up, still be attached via wireless and try your app
I hope this works for everyone who tries, please report your findings
Currently this app only works on wireless it will not work with your cell signal. I am looking to see if I can figure out how to enable the app to use the cell signal, I'm not a developer but I do have an idea to try!
ill try this on my Amaze 4G when i get home

Are you doing this on a phone or on your Fire?
I wonder if you can remove root from some alternative method and see if you can run VOD, perhaps remove BurritoRoot if that's what you have installed.
There is something about CM7 that amazon does not like. I have never gotten it to work on CM7, even after temp unrooting. But if I did the same thing on a none cm7 rom, it worked fine. Go figure.

It's on a fire. Before I flashed CM7 over, I was running just a rooted fire, and voodo ran just fine allowing amazon video to work when needed. Would be a shame if I couldn't get it to run on CM7.. not a huge loss, just would like to see if it could work on this variant..
That's too bad that it doesn't work on CM7
Maybe I should try it and see what I can find out
will try and post quick feed back

I tried this on my CM7 Kindle Didn't Work
I copied the apk's and ran the installs. It won't let me login to Amazon even. I just grabbed the apk's from the Kindle Fire .bin file though. I'll try the ones you have for download in your post and see if they work differently.
Hmm, MAC wasn't the problem
I'm on ICS and when I try to add an Amazon account I get a failure. I've checked my MAC and it's the same as under stock, but what does concern me is my serial number is all 0's.
Has anyone got this to work under ICS? Is everyone's serial number all 0's? Any other hints on how to get VOD working?

[FIX] Getting more market apps to show up
If you have an Android phone, you might have noticed that some of the apps and games that you are able to download onto your phone do not show up on your Kindle Fire. There could be several reasons that this happens, but one of the main reasons I have seen is because of the density of the Fire's LCD display. Although it is a large display it is considered a medium density display because of how many pixels fit into a square inch.
Any easy fix would be to edit /system/build.prop and change ro.sf.lcd_density=160 to ro.sf.lcd_density=240. Sure this works but you will be left with items on screen being enlarged quite a bit. Icons will be much larger and you will not be able to fit as many on each homescreen. There is one other thing you can do to help this situation.
1. Change ro.sf.lcd_density=160 to ro.sf.lcd_density=240 in /system/build.prop (you will need to mount /system as RW using adb or something like ES Explorer or Root Explorer)
2. Create a file named local.prop in /data and add qemu.sf.lcd_density=160
3. Reboot and enjoy having more apps and games available in the Android Market
So why does this work? Well the Android Market will get your density from ro.sf.lcd_density and see it as a high density display. qemu.sf.lcd_density will override this for the drawable objects in apps and will use the medium density setting for displaying these items. So you end up getting the best of both worlds.
Enjoy!

This also fixes FCs that you might get! You could also get "LCD Resolution (Root)" but you'll have to manually set it back to its original resolution.
I don't think screen density is the answer. Mine is set to 160 and I have no problems getting my apps to show up in the Market.

What color is the Swype "S" on your installer icon? If it is anything other than Orange, then you're not installing the version compatible with your Fire.
Since I also use Swype on my Thunderbolt, I signed up for another beta with another email address I have, and that let me download the latest beta on my Kindle. I tried this 2 weeks ago and got an error that Swype was not compatible with my device. I saw that they have Swype now for the Galaxy Tab and that was my cute to try again. I did and magic happened.
If you have the orange S and are not able to do the install, make sure you don't have any other versions of the installer on your KF and try again. You might also try downloading again just in case the download was bad.
Good luck!

I am stuck once I get to the swype installer. I click the "enable swype" button, which according the swype installation page is supposed to take me to the keyboard recognition page, which technically it does, but doesn't allow me to choose a new keyboard.
My fire is stock with the most recent update (6.2.2?). Does it need to be rooted or running another rom for this to work?

I was just going to ask you if you were running the stock ROM. That is the problem. You can still do it though. I had Swype when I ran stock ROM.
I'm working right now and can't refer to the instructions I found, but Google it and read the threads completely. You can do it, but it involves moving the Swype apk to your system apps folder, changing permissions and then deleting the apk to keep Swype from force closing. It's a hassle, but worth it if you don't want to install a recovery and flash CM7 or other ROM.

It does not appear to be resizeable, so I assume it's the phone version, but Swype apparently approves of it for this device, and it does work perfectly with the KF. It is a large size though, but I don't mind because my fingers are big.

Ok. So I even went ahead to create a new swype beta account just to use for my kindle fire. But after the installation, it still tells me the screen size is not yet supported. Yes, the color of the installer is orange. And since I just created the account, I'm sure I have the latest installer. Could it be due to the fact that I'm running the ics (cm9) rom? What rom do you have on your KF?

So swype has a new update today (2/16) that is supposed to support ICS tablets officially. I'm running CM7 and had no problem downloading and installing the latest Swype update. Honestly, not being able to use my Swype on CM9 will keep me on CM7 indefinitely.

I extracted the Swype apk from my backup of CM7 so I could use it on my CM9 install. It works just fine but the keyboard is more narrow than the screen even in the vertical orientation and it occasionally nags about the version being incorrect for the screen size when going from vertical to horizonal.
Instead of using your backup to install, just run your installer and download a fresh install of the beta. As long as you have your user name and password, Swype will let you download it again. Then you have a fresh install without any settings that may exist in the backup.

I have not ran into that issue myself. I am currently running 326.41 with a 660ti. Maybe you can try the custom install option and putting a check on clean install.
I always use this option to make sure things install properly.
The issue happens when using the 326.41 beta drivers used for streaming.

I'm sorry I copied the wrong numbers. That is what I get for being lazy.
If someone who has the 320.49 drivers installed can check if you have the streaming service installed that would be great.
also if you have updated to GFE 1.6
I am going to guess it will not be there.
From what I can tell it will not be there, so i added it my self and streaming works on 320.49.
