Hi Guys,
I have spent several years in the device specific forums here at XDA and finally I need some help from the community.
The company I work for is developing animated children's book for Android, iOS (and soon WinPhone7).
As an avid Android user, I find cross-platform applications are often sub-par on Android, and even across devices within the Android platform. Our company is dedicated to writing our applications from the ground up on each platform and particularly in the case of Android to ensure that our applications look great across all devices.
We are looking currently for users with Android devices to test and give feedback, volunteers are to send me a private message with their username, hardware devices they can test on and OSs. They will be send a custom build featuring their username.
The requirements and requested feedback is as follows:
Requirements:
Android Phone or Tablet
Stock OS preferrable.
MDPI or higher device.
An Interest in Children's books.
We would LOVE to have this tested on a Xoom Tablet.
Feedback:
Screenshots
OS Version
Device Name
Comments on performance and appearance.
Testing at the moment is focussing on the performance and appearance of the application but comments regarding the "story" and it's illustration that are relevent would also be appreciated.
I'm not sure if the rules of advertising apply here but if you require more information feel free to PM me and I can provide a link to our website pending allowance from admins to post our name and address.
UPDATE: Thank you for all those who have helped and provided feedback. My apologies to those who have not yet had replies. The BETA has now ended and the product will be releasing very soon.
I'd like to beta test it.

Hi all,
I have now sent out the first few copies of the application for testing. I have replied to all PMs with either an email wit hthe file and instructions where supplied, or a request for a contact email to which I can send further instructions and the application.
If I have missed anyone I apologies, please message me again and I will get back to you as soon as possible. I have had a large number of PMs and I'm only human so in between relaxing for the weekend I have tried to reply to everyone without missing any out.
Thanks again and I look forward to some feedback from the community.
Me me me!
I'd love to test this out. My 3 year old and my soon-to-be-1 year old would love to be able to listen to different stories than the ones I've already bought. ^_^
And, to the person who wonders if this is practical... it truly is.
I'm sending a PM, hope I can be involved.
Hi Guys,
Please do send in more PMs. We have have had several testers on the Motorola XOOM tablet so we don't really need many more of them, but please if you have other devices get in touch, the BETA will be running for a day or two longer.
i am a stay at home dad with a 7 month old ..... i would be honored to be a part of something so important to the new generations development... lord knows the world will need our kids to be smarter
Hey guys,
today I come to you with good and bad news.
Bad news first: Flemmard decided finally, that he hasn't got enough time anymore to support and develop M10Tools fulltime.
That means, he is quitting the main development. This is very unfortunate because Flemmard and I are the only two person who actually know how to reverse engineere the *.m10 format.
Therefore I am searching a new developer now, who can take Flemmard's part over.
And here comes the good news: The next version is going to be OpenSource (most likely some kind of GPL).
(This doesn't include the upcoming Virtuous Ten Studio, only the decoder/encoder for the m10 files itself)
Now let's get to the actual search. The requirements are quite hard:
We search (Flemmard will be still here as some kind of help) one or two very experienced C# or C++ developers with the following requirements:
Very good experience in C# and/or C++
Windows dev of course
Experience with reading/writing binary data would be helpful
Experience with reverse engineering file formats would be also helpful
Good spoken english required (German would be nice too)
Communication is done via either IRC or Skype
Development uses SVN, so knowledge about SVN and how it works is quite helpful
Having a HTC phone with a sense 3.0/3.5 ROM is strongly advised. You don't totally need it, but it helps a lot
Now lets come to the tasks that needs to be done and the usual workflow
We do know everything important about the m10 file format, so the hard work is already done
But you still WILL be starring at your hexeditor four hours (no joke here), so if you don't like digging through hexcodes you are totally wrong here
This is not a halftime job. Writing such a decider/encoder requires quite a bit of spare time
Once I explained you most of the things we know about m10 formats, YOU will start writing a parser for those files. This is much trial and error.
The time will come where you understand the basics of the format. Then you need to finish that decoder/encoder and start working on the addtional things (mainly image decoding/encoding)
Image decoding: The images saved in m10 have different special file formats. We do know how to decode them. There is just ONE format that needs further research.
One last thing: Flemmard won't give out his current source code. We have to accept that.
As I am too lazy to put up another G-Forms thing, I'd just like you to answer here in that post if you are interested in becoming a main m10tools dev.
Flemmard and me had a great time developing this tool, so I guess this will repeat with the new guy(s).
Did you ever speak to THIS guy?

Nope, everyone should have a chance of getting in here if he is still interested, he can just post here
This is sad for our HTCs , I used to build some themes but HTC new m10 files are as bad as locking the bootloader!
Why the hell do they play like that?
Unfortunate that flemmard can't keep putting his time on this but we all understand that all devs do what they do here out of their passion and hobby not because they have to do it.
That being said, I will more than happy to help you guys here. I have been a c# developer since .net 1.0 and work with svn day in and day out. As far as reverse engineering goes, I haven't worked with hex editor much but I'm pretty comfortable with IL. Though I know we cant compare binaries with IL. Please pm me if you would like to know anything else.

because they hate people like us, messing with their files prolly
I'd say : it's as bad as a locked bootloader AND closed source camera drivers
HTC is taking a piss out of Android and open source, unfortunatly their phones have the best build quality, otherwise i would own a sony or samsung phone ...
I have a large experience on C++, and free time too

i have been following your dev work on irc for a while
I am hoping to help!
Come to #vts-dev and #m10tools on freenode irc!

I do not have experience in C. I have experience with free time at work (midnight shifts) and looking at hex code most nights. I would love to help when and where I can with that portion of it. I also have an HTC EVO 3D (Sprint CDMA, not rooted, has 1.50 hboot which I am trying to bypass), an HTC Thunderbolt (Verizon & rooted & primary phone), and an old HTC HD2 which has had android and winmo, all of those are available for testing if need be.
Good to see M10Tools is coming back hope to see OSX and Sense 3.5 support soon. Thanks so much for all the work you (Diamondback) and Flemmard did and hopefully will continue. You make it easier for us to theme Sense and we are grateful for all of the work you have done for us.
sweet hopefully m10 tools will make a comeback!
Wondering if you guys ever found the extra help you were looking for? I love m10 editor
Finow has seen fit to use the work of face creators without permission, credit, or compensation. Finow has even gone so far as to remove copyright notices, as well as logos and other identifying marks on some faces. Use of such faces helps sales and results in profiting from copyrighted works they do not have rights too. Even under a lose interpretation of copyright law, this is well outside of fair use and copyright. This is not the first time Finow has done this.
As recently as July 6th 2016 Finow was asking for permission to use faces even though they had already put the faces on their server again.
So to outline our experience with Finow;
Refuses to fix critical issues
EOLs devices they are still selling
Steals copyrighted works to promote their device
Removes copyright works after confronted
Asks to use copyrighted works while putting the works back on their server.
What we the got in return were empty promises of fixes and device support, and a couple of firmware zips.
So the question is, considering Finow's actions do we end our partnership with Finow and do what we have been doing since the beginning. That being trying to fix issues ourselves
Video of faces Finow has arbitrarily put on their server more than once
Iam surprised you didn't get a sore finger scrolling through all them lokifish marz ,but yes not good at all, last they could do is follow through with there promise of fixes.

Don't think I'd stay friends with them in r/l....
Just a quick word about sending your clockskins out in collections or zip files.
There are some people around collecting the skins for vendors to use on their watches and make profit from these faces without a thought for the work that has gone into making them.
The bottom line is - if you don't care that a huge manufacturer is making money from your work without any recognition to you for your effort - then go ahead and hand them out.
Other wise leave them as single attachments to your posts and be wary of anyone with one or two posts who asks for a "collection of watch face files".
My advice - as we have just had hundreds STOLEN for corporate use - keep as single attachment and even digitally sign the work.
Personal use is one thing but corporate theft is very nasty indeed.
You have to wonder why someone with forum stats like these below would be asking for a dump of files:

Pablo11 makes a good point, but still this is a situation where you are "damned if you do and damned if you don't" even if you post the skins one at a time they could download them and use them anyway. The only possible solution is to digitally sign the watchfaces. The most remarkable thing i have noticed about finow is that they just "dont give a f**k" about the people who are buying their product. It doesn't seem like a serious company at all. So im guessing that most of us that bought the finow watches are pretty much up ****s creek without a paddle hahaha
Buuuuuuuuuttt for some happier news if you guys that are making the watches want to digitally sign the files that make up the watchfaces in my experience as a software developer we could do it in a couple of ways the easiest is probably signing them with simple self signed X.509 Certificates using OpenSSL. For the image files hiding the signature using steganography and in the xml file it would be added as a xml tag at the bottom. Its not a perfect solution but it should work for now
If there is some interest in an application that could do this i think i could probably put together a simple signing app in a mater of 1-3 days for you guys. The only reason i'm offering is since i don't want you guys to stop making the watchfaces, since i'm not that particularly artistically inclined.
Anyway as i said if u want it i can make it pretty fast and an app that stamps all the files with a digital signature is better than nothing right?
I posted info on the G+ community dealing with using steganography and embedding data in the meta when creating the face. There is legal recourse in the situation as well. Under China law, images are copyrighted upon creation without the need for formal registration and fair use doesn't exist there.
Update: i'll start working on an digital signature app for this as i talked about in the Previous post and put it up in a new thread once ive made a functioning alpha so you guys can start using it.

Much appreciated. Thanks for your effort :good:
Hi again guys, as you probably already figured out the app for digitaly signing the watchfaces has stuc a litle bit. The issue is with the alpha channels (transparency) in the png files for the steganography part. The alpha channels get a bit messed up sometimes. But i have hopes that it shall be overcome i have been discussing the problem with a coleege and he gave me a couple of ideas that im gonna try out when i get home today so if they work then it can be uploaded here for you guys to try it out in a mater of a day or two. I appologize for saying it would be done in a couple of days i didnt account for unforseen problems as the alpha channels problem in my initial time estimat.

[Tool][Windows] WDS
Hi guys, ive finally made an alpha of the signing application. It signs both xml and png files, the signature is based on an self signing certificate that is saved on the hdd as a file ".pfx" i choose this approach because then you can keep both the app and the certificate on an usb as backup. This is a link to the thread i started for the application here on xda forum. Im not sure i posted it in the right forum category but if i did not and an admin moves it then you can search for "[Tool][Windows] WDS".

Try it out and let me know in the thread of any improvement suggestions or bugs you guys find.
I will keep it short like on the Nexus 6 Thread before...

Two years ago we released BlurKit to create fast blur effects in Android. It was simple to use and filled a need for many Android developers. Since then, development of BlurKit has slowed as our attention moved to other projects such as CameraKit.
Today we are bringing back support for BlurKit in a big way. We've released v1.0.0 and will work to squash bugs and roll out new features in the coming months. If you want to contribute or see our roadmap, check us out on GitHub! We've made a blog post about this here: Medium - but wanted to share with XDA for any direct feedback! Thanks in advance everyone.
A couple of years ago I needed to create a blur effect in one of the applications. For implementation I used renderscript. Everything worked very slowly and this idea had to be abandoned. Does your library work in a similar way or does it use something new?
