Keep track of internet access record of an app - Android Software Development

When I am using an app to access the internet media, I am always curious about where do they download the data and where is the downloaded content. Is there an app out there that allows me to have an internet access record of selected apps?

App that control which apps can use 3g/edge and wifi

Is there any app that can control which apps are allowed to use 3g/edge to connect to the Internet and which are only allowed to do that when wifi is available?
Yes me too want to know how to restrict data download.
Thank you.
IMO, an app that manages all permissions would be even better. I haven't heard of any such apps but hopefully someone can come up with something.
can I somehow restrict all data transfers? I have no data tarif from my mobile operator and allmost everywhere I am i have free wifi connection (so I want use wifi).
Thank you
"Tasker" may be able to help, it can control your settings based on all kinds of scenarios. I have my mobile data disabled and use Tasker to enable it when certain apps start (internet, email, etc), it will disable it automatically when you close that app (needs apndroid installed). I do the same with GPS.
Tasker gives you loads of options and control, you can create custom widgets and automatic profile switching.

droidwall may be of interest to you guys, it blocks all apps to connect to 3g/edge unless you specify the app in the droidwall whitelist
note: Droidwall does require root
Would appreciate to know where to get the "Tasker" you mentioned.
Thank you.
I can find Tasker in the market, but I first found it on androlib. I use it to disable ´mobile data' during the night.

Hotel Wifi connections and installing apps

OK ive just got the HD on Orange and being a complete novice to the world of smart phones, how do i get the Wifi to access the web at hotels etc?
It works on my home router fine, however im currently away on business, and want to access the hotel internet, so i can start exploring the world this of so called App's!
Ive turned it on, and found hotel network and connected.
Now to access the web via the laptop i need additional login though the web brower.
How do i do this with the HD?
Also how do i install apps?
can i download them onto the SD memory stick then install them onto the phone?
To access your hotel network via the phone, simply open up the browser on it & key in the logon info. You'll probably have to disconnect the PC first though.
Re apps, just go to https://market.android.com/ and browse and download. Or use the Market app that is pre-installed on the phone. They will be downloaded and installed automatically for you (you can also do this via your PC, assuming your Google account is up to date. Once you click on the accept button on your PC's browser, the app will be sent to your phone & installed).
Have fun!

Streaming Media From PC To The Nexus 4?

I did a search and couldn't find what I was looking for hence the new post.
Basically I want to be able to stream my media to my phone from my home PC. Also I want the ability to stream media over the internet via my cellular data connection too when required. Similar stuff to what Air Video does on iPhone.
One of you recommended me ES File Explorer but this relies on a static IP address for my computer serving the media which I don't want to set up.
Any way of doing it using the computer name?
Have you tried Plex ??
No Static IP, or Computer Name Required...
You install the Plex Server on your Computer (Make sure you download the SERVER, and not the Media Center)
Install, tell the Server where to find you files (Music and/or Videos) and it will start loggin them all (even download posters/album art)
Then you install the Plex Android app on your phone (This Cost a few $ via the Play Store)
Sign up for a Free myPlex account, then Sign into it via the Plex Server, and the Android App... then all of your media is available locally or over the internet...
Plex will even stream to a PS3 (or any DLNA enabled Device)
The few $ for the Android App is work it. Plex works way better than most of the free alternatives (I think there are like 2) and Plex also Transcodes videos so you don't have to worry about format problems..
Although I use DicePlayer so it handles pretty much all videos

No... not without some service for dynamic DNS management.
How often is your ip address changed by your provider? Mine rarely changes and I simply have Tasker check it every time I leave the house and stuff the value into a global. Of course, if you are on the road for long periods of time when your ip might be changed... that won't help. If this is your case you will need a server side process like the aforementioned Plex, or more simply, an account with a service like DynDNS.org. I prefer the latter as I want more access to my server (VNC, full file access, and connection to a home built http server for home automation) than Plex would allow.
You could also cron a shell script to get the current address periodically and send you a message if it changes, of course you would have to manually set the ip in ES File Explorer (or other client) when that address changes. In my case, it simply does not happen often enough for me to need set up any of this.
Try ghostcommander. You can just enter your computer name login and password. Easy peasy.

That's on a LAN, right?
Qloud is one of the best apps I've used for streaming video and music. The music player could be better but the video player can play any file format and it is an awesome app. Check it out in the play store they have a free version so you can test it out before you buy.

I've tried Qloud already but had no luck with getting it to work.
Plex sounds pretty good actually. I just want to try before I buy it though.

[Q] MTP connection using WIFI

Hi Hi,
I'm wondering if it is possible to do a MTP connection using WIFI (instead of USB)? So that I can see my phone's folders using window explorer on Windows 7.
Thanks.
I don't think it is possible but I would suggest trying out the Kies Air app (available in Samsung marketplace). When in this application you can manage your phone through WiFi using any internet browser on PC. You can upload and download pictures, videos, manage text messages etc.
Or use Airdroid. Better than Kaes Air.

Offline device

I am working for a advertising company and tagged to lot of content providers and broadcast to mobile app using own tablets mostly used in hotels...
We have a customer at other country also want a same but required some kind of device like ( Mac mini) which can pull data from our main server and storage the data locally.
Next this device will broadcast the data to the users own handset by using our android app.
The device will work as a Hotspot and when user mobile connect to it, they were able to view the contents..
Question here.... can a andriod app receive data from our main server and store locally and then allow to broadcast the data to users own mobile phone through our android app
I might not be clear on my working.. Do ask me question to clarify...
Android can receive the add easily when it is online,ok.
But wen the conection disconnects, the ad is still there on the app untill it closes.
As when the app closes the ads data vanishes and nothing will be showed.becoz ads are temporory..
This what happens on my device
Ask me for any clarity on my answer...
