[Q] MTP connection using WIFI - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Hi,
I'm wondering if it is possible to do a MTP connection using WIFI (instead of USB)? So that I can see my phone's folders using window explorer on Windows 7.
Thanks.

I don't think it is possible but I would suggest trying out the Kies Air app (available in Samsung marketplace). When in this application you can manage your phone through WiFi using any internet browser on PC. You can upload and download pictures, videos, manage text messages etc.

Or use Airdroid. Better than Kaes Air.

Share files through a created wifi hotspot

So I had this idea for a longer time now.
I'd like to access the files on my galaxy tab through for example my iPod. Therefore I'd like to create a wifi hotspot that just simply gives access to these files.
Is this possible?
It should be possible if I share my internet connection with the iPod through a mobile hotspot.
But I'd like to save my mobile data plan.
The other way round: iPod -> tab probably wont work because of iOs's limitations right?
Is this possible at all? Or can't the tab create a network structure that would allow this.
It should, shouldn't it? It can share the mobile data, so it should be able to share files?

DLNA
If you change a file name to a DLNA supported extension than you can probably transfer from one device to another. Then when on the other device just change the extension back.
Okay I have no idea what Dlna is, I just know its something with servers.

I believe you are looking for an app called: WiFi File Explorer. With free version you can download files from Tab, with full version you can also upload files to it.
I think I wasnt precise enough. I want the tab to be the wifi hotspot.
When I'm out in the dessert, there's no wifi hotspot in sight, I still wanna be able to access the files on my tab.
Wifi explorer is working with a hotspot, I just can't seem to download files with free version.

Digital living network alliance. Unless you want to share multimedia files, it's useless for you. The tab has a client / server app installed, AllShare.
A little question : why not just use the hotspot feature? I doubt that in the desert you'd be able to connect to the network and spend money accidentally.
That aside, I'd use FTPServer on the tab to share the files, and whatever ftp client you want to access them.
Still there's the issue on how to connect everything...
Sharing from the iPod would work the same way, with the limitation that the files to share need to be in the server folder.

Okay I've got ftpserver installed, but I've got no idea what to enter into the blanked out fields.
Btw. How can I make a mobile accesspoint, when I haven't got a 3g connection?
That option is just greyed out when I haven't got mobile data!

Really? Well, that's unexpected. About the settings, just fill them as you wish. But remember what you used, don't just input random stuff: that data needs to be input into the client as well.

So I entered the stuff into ftpserver, started the server.
I can't access it through a webserver neither with my desktop nor the iPod touch.
I just get some error that its not availible.
Ftpserver has in its logs then, that it blocked because the standard directory doesn't exist on those devices.
If I change the directory to "/" it stills doesn't work on the PC.

Nope, you are doing it wrong : what you need to connect is an ftp client, try Cyberduck on Windows.
Also, while I don't think it would be an issue, try to set the server on /sdcard no need to get access to the whole system ( if that even works)
An ftp client for the iPod... hard to tell, looks like all of them aren't free.

I just send files back and forth with bluetooth. No 3g connection required.
Sadly I don't have a Bluetooth USB stick and Joseph (wtf fail autocorrect: iOs) doesn't allow filetransfair for Bluetooth.

That's not entirely true, I forgot the name, but on Cydia there is an app to handle the whole Bluetooth file sharing issue. Might not be free however.

Jep i know that.
Its called ibluenova and it didn't even work on 3.x, it was quite buggy. on ios 4.x it doesn't work at all.
so that is no option.

When I have to, I share between devices (laptop, phone) with a dropbox. Also by email. But that means a data connection.
Try "file expert" app. Then set your tab as a "mobile access point" using the standard wi fi settings.
When you start file expert the tab becomes a web server (it tells you what address to use and lets you set login & password)
Then open browser on your "other" device --enter the address from step above and then browse your Tab.
I tried this in the office recently with an ipad owning colleague & he was browsing my photo collection in less than a minute.

file expert its working very nicely.
Only problem is that it uses data.

Hi Diemex
Are you sure it's "using data"?
File Expert should work if you switch off your 3G and create your own private wifi network.
Glad it's working for you.

Theres definetly data that's caused by file expert. That's what 3g watchdog says.
The upload of file expert is quite precisely the filesizes of what I viewed.
Probably it even charges me double data, I think it will be uploaded first and then downloaded again via the hotspot.
Its not possible to create a hotspot without a data connection. I tried the IP I get from Fe to cennect to is also "localhost".

wifi sync hack or app?

Is there an app that I can use to connect to my computer and do file transfers wirelessly? Or perhaps a hack..
What exactly are you trying to transfer? I use DropBox all the time and you can share files with other devices/people as well, follow that link for extra storage.
Ive also used a comp w/ bluetooth to transfer a bunch of pictures to my Atrix one time..
If your wanting to sync your entire iTunes library, you might give this a try: http://goo.gl/hVxxf
I use ES File Explorer, free in the market. It acts as a file explorer on your atrix, but can also set up LAN locations via ip addresses. With that you can easily copy files from your phone to computer and vice versa as long as both are on the same network.
Just hate having to take my sd card out all the time or moving my charger around. Just transfering music, videos and pics.
Apps Drawer > Phone Portal > Connect with Wifi
In your browser, connect to your phone by typing in your phones IP address followed by :8080 and you will connect to the phone portal which will allow you to manage your phone wirelessly.
Use IE 7 or Firefox 3 if possible as they are the most compatible with the software.

Quite welcome. You can also do this while plugged into USB if you are low on battery or whatever else.
Ever since the .83 update I have horrible signal in my house. I typically just leave my phone in another room lately where I get decent signal and use the BT headset for calls and then use my desktop or laptop for txting.
I have been using PhoneExplorer.. its free from the market. It will sync Outlook if you need that, it lets you run your texts in chat windows, and it syncs files and pictures as well as lets you upload and download to the phone. It supports wifi, bluetooth, and usb connections.
When I tried PhonePortal, I couldn't get to my files... I might have to try it again.

Which app do you use to transfer files via FTP?

One thing I missed about MIUI is the built-in FTP server within the File Explorer.
I have tried a few FTP server apps and so far I don't like any of them.
If you use FTP to transfer files (as opposed to USB cable), which one do you use?
I like AndFTP on the client side, and SwiFTP for serving.

Transfer music from Android tablet to Android phone

Hi,
Is it possible to transfer musics from my Galaxy Tab 2 to an android phone?
I cannot use PC.
Thanks for your help.
Copy your music to an SD card, put the SD card in phone, copy music to phone. Need a file manager? Try Total Commander.

Yes, using a direct connect via WiFi. There are different ways to do this; I use the app called Software Data Cable Pro from Play Store. Within the app, use the function "Sync Phone". You can also use "Sync PC" function, if you are on the same WiFi network - on another device, just run any file manager that supports FTP connections.
Bluetooth transfer, wifi direct connect, cloud transfer, external sd card and es file explorer are good for this.
Did you thank your Developer today?
