[POLL] The DMod team polls! Updated![30/05/2013] - Galaxy S III Mini General

Hi guys
Me and dolar4ik are working on DMod V6. It will be awesome, I promise! But to make it closer to your needs we decided to open this poll thread where we'll ask you what do you prefer.
It will be constantly updated, so please keep an eye on it!
We took our decision regarding kies. It will be removed, but we'll provide a flashable addon for the people who can't live without it
Unfortunately,we can't modify our polls, so here's a new one for you! NEW POLL
Let us know what you prefer!

Small notice!
Your PC will recognise your phone. It will be shown as media device (via MTP)

I think most of us want battery life, stability and speed. Those three things are most important for me. Don't get me wrong, everything you did till now is great..
Sent from my GT-I8190 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

Kies not vital
AirDriod makes it better to synchronize and backup. The only feature that would miss is the location of the phone in case of loss or theft, but surely there are third-party applications for that purpose.
Once we left the original rom, not longer interest us Samsung notifications.

I never use Kies when connecting to pc. However...when connecting to mac as it doesn't support MTP, I've been using kies for filetransfering.
Airdroid isn't as fast as cable, and googles "Android File Transfer" app have never worked.

Yesterday i've ınstalled your rom, thanks guys good job.
And what i have done first is removing the kies myself. Useless for me.

Never use Kies No problems at all without it, if only backup is concerned titanium is handy

kies, because you can remove it afterwards if you wan't to debloat more.

It's nice to have kies. The nicer thing is that you can easily remove it. So I vote in favor of kies even if I probably disable it afterwards..

Remove it, buggy as hell (sometimes works sometimes doesn't) and completely useless.

Kies? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

you should remove kies because i think noone who use custom roms/firmwares uses original pc-software like kies ....

kies no .... I'd like the menu 'white as s4 ... and if you can S-Translator and notifications led with display in stand-by

We decided to remove Kies.
But we will provide flashable addon for people who want Kies.
We have few other questions and Dario will make polls for each of them later.
Thanks everyone for your opinion. It help us to make ROM closer to users

Would it be possible to somehow integrate the same options in the Aroma installer as in your Pala tool bloatware remover so I can get rid of all that pesky Sammy stuff but keep some of your great features like custom browser?
Thanks!
sent from the tips of me fingers!
Please hit thanks if someone helps;p

Okay guys!
We took our decision for kies,so new poll.

I updated the LA1. I don't see any difference other than WIPING. I was from KL8.
I interesting thing I noticed was "Back" is not working when I was in "Applications". I am the only one?
I see a lot of fine improvements in the ui:
Lock screen, contact list, Swype update...
I can't help: I like it!
It is hard to estimate speed and battery improvement, but at least it is not worse.
Thanks for posting the ROM!

still on KK9, not receiving any updates from KIES nor OTA
I am wondering why I never get updates although from what I've read, others got 2 OTA's? anyway, is there any problems with flashing the above firmware to my phone using Odin except than losing root?
An additional question, which country is my phone from? CSC and PDA seems inconsistent to me :/
PDA:KK9 / PHONE:KK5 / CSC: KK2 (DAM)
Sorry..wrong thread! Pls close my post..

I am actually quite happy with it, it's fairly fast nice and smooth with no major issues.
Just need status bar toggles, power button menu, custom kernel and I think I will be happy
What's everyone else's thoughts ?

Well, I'm still not sure what the whole big deal is about this update for us.
It isn't more beautiful then a custom ROM. Even Sony told us that this isn't as fast as GB.
And their are still a lot of apps that isn't working correctly on 4.0.
I have it for only one reason. That is because I can't stand if someone with the same device have a newer software then me
Edit: I thought we should have the original unlock. But I have still the Sony one.....
It is no way smooth.. Everything works.. But isn't hardware acceleration supposed to increase the smoothness? I don't blame Sony. I blame Google for not fixing hardware acceleration right!
Sent from my LT15i using XDA
Try enabling gpu acceleration in developer settings?
Has anyone tried using apex launcher? It's probably way better than the stock launcher from what I've seen; like ICS but even better
Running official ics(rooted).its excellent. Very quick lag free compared to beta. I have frozen unneeded system apps and deleted bloatware. Very snappy
Sent from my LT18i using XDA
I love it.
I've been running the ICS beta since it was released and the performance of the final release blows it away on my Arc S. Getting it installed via Flashtool was a right PITA though - I thought my device was properly screwed at one point!
The launcher doesn't redraw like the beta did - I think Sony have made some memory tweaks in this area which is very welcome. I also like that they're shipping the official ICS Gallery app (and have renamed the old one 'Xperia Gallery') - the ICS Gallery app is so much faster than the Xperia one.
The ICS browser is in a different league to the GB one. I also love the Task Switcher, swipe notifications, music player controls, data usage monitor, new ICS calendar widget, GMail widget, etc. etc.
But Sony won't be able to please everyone. Some people were expecting the 2012 NXT UI even though Sony never promised it. These people will be disappointed. Personally I can't see what all the fuss is about - I'm sure someone will get the Xperia S music player working on ICS if that's what people want!
sooo smooth
so fast
i use baseband 70 with cm9
so fast sooo smooth >> perfect battery use
good new baseband

its complete rubbish to be honest. It hasnt improved at all since beta, the look and feel of it is like 2.3. They could have atleast been bothered to integrate some of xperia s apps.

Why would they integrate S apps into the Arc S ? What would be the point in giving this years flagship phones apps to last year's ? Then it removes some of the attraction of upgrading , Sony is a business out to make money not provide users with all the solutions they want

It's a legitimate request I've seen before. I mean, why let your old devices just waste away when your children or family members could totally use them as dirt cheap replacements for iPods and such. You don't want them making accidental emergency calls or circumventing the settings you put in place.
Should be able to completely remove the radio somehow so that the cellular stuff just won't work.

Maybe this is a project for some of the budding devs on xda. In theory, it sounds like a simple change. Simply remove the phone aspects of a rom and repackage. I'm sure it's harder than it sounds in terms of stability and usability though (I'm not a dev) =/

Eh, some apps certainly wouldn't work, anything that needs to communicate through telephony and such. But really shouldn't be that difficult.
I'll come back when I'm not too terribly busy with some links about breaking down and customizing ROMs and such. I know that I've found a thread specifically for this kind of thing for another device, but there are a few of them I read up on so it may take a while to locate. Hell, you could just about remove the phone and contacts apps and edit your build.prop and leave an existing ROM intact. I'm no dev or anything though lol so I'll look around.

TeamDRH over in the gTablet forums have added something similar to this into their ICS ROM for gTablet. Might be a useful place to look.
Ok well.I went and remove like all telephony apk in my Rom and some app don't work like he said

Not the OG article I had read, but after a bit of Googling I came up with a script that you should be able to set to run at boot which will disable your radio.
You may also be able to dial *#*#INFO#*#* and choose turn off radio, but that will not be persistent across reboots. I would use the script and a third-party launcher that can hide apps so that you'll keep the phone and contacts apps and such for stability, but not have them readily available.
*EDIT:
And a flashable zip! Thank you jellybellys!
**EDIT:
Just to elaborate about that flashable zip, it will actually "permanently" (until you wipe and install another ROM) disable the radio and clean out the apps that you don't want. Also installs some kind of binaries if they're currently absent from the ROM. Great find, I'm glad you asked about this!
exactly, my first thought would be just to use titanium backup and disable/freeze but not remove apps such as dialer or what you dont want/need. not sure if this will work but its worth a try. probably a few treads across xda on this (especially on older model phones) id search in those and see if there is a quick answer short of developing a whole new rom

I'll try it out on my phone, see if I can't replicate the issue and speak with the dev. Exactly what MIUI build are you on?

So that's the MIUI.us "Pure English?" I've just downloaded the last available build and will soon flash and then install jellybellys's zip. I'm hoping that will get me the same FC's as you are.
Once you've gotten home after the weekend, try rebooting it a time or two and see if it consistently gives you the FC's.
Also, just curious, but are you using MIUI just because it's the most similar Android overlay to iOS? To make it a bit easier for your friend? Because you could hook him up with some ICS goodness otherwise
*EDIT:
Ok, looking through his updater-script vs. my /system/app/ directory, it looks like MIUI names a couple of apk's differently. I'm currently installing a fresh MIUI so that I can see the directory before moddified by the OG jellybellys zip, then I'll update his zip to reflect those different names and try to run it again. If successful, I'll post the modified file and hopefully we can get your friend a fun little multi-tasking media player
Ok sweet umm can u send me the edit zip
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using Tapatalk 2
Had a good look at the flashable zip, very simple. I need to learn to code, I guess this is a good small place to start lol
All I did was unzip his file, change a few things and added a couple extra lines to remove one more app he hadn't worried with. As said above this will disable your radio, install the radiooptions binary if absent, and remove a number of apk's from the /system/app/ directory.
Removed apps:
TelephonyProvider.apk - cellular service
TelocationProvider.apk - emergency location service (I just don't see the need if you're not connecting to cellular networks)
Phone.apk - your phone app - should also get rid of dialer, I'm trying to find out why it doesn't.
Mms.apk - messaging app
All credit to jellybellys @ rootzwiki.com of course, I couldn't have written this myself or anything.
jellybellys-mod-wifionly-MIUI
Again, the phone app will still be on the homescreen and you actually can't remove it. It won't dial anything, and will just cause the acore process to FC if you try. It's looking like the only way to get it really removed is to modify the ROM's zip so that it never installs the app to begin with.
I'm going to restore the apps again, see if Titanium Backup can't do a better job than outright removing the app does.

Also need the GSM part to work so having the ability to flash the Aussie Radio on it is a must.

Interested, would like some debloatation of the stock rom maybe kill the google search bar at the top to regain some screen real estate.
Also have the setting turn on for hot spot so those of us with unlimited data can easily go in and mod it. I cant seem to get the setting turned on keeps telling me i need to call Verizon.
And and and lol
reboot & sleep mode back for JB (ie when the power button is pushed) not sure if its easy or not just a wish list.
If nothing else would be happy with just the stuff in the first line. But a fella can dream right.

How do I flash DSPManager on the stock ROM? I can't stand not having it and I don't really like any of the custom ROMs.. and I am working with very limited space, so a custom ROM really is t an option for that reason alone. I recall a way to flash things without using recovery, but forgot what program did it..

I don't know if you have read the tons of suggestions to reduce or get rid of the "lag", but here it's a summary:
1-) Activate Developers options and then set to off all the animations options
2-) Freeze/Disable the AT&T and/or Samsung Bloatware
3-) Remove the option to activate the S Voice by double clicking the Home Button, go to options on S Voice and you will see it there.
4-) If you have the Default Weather Widget, get rid of it or at least set the options to not update all the time.
5-) if you have downloaded Swiftkey, people seem to have issues with it and Weather widget combined. try using Swype (already on your phone) or Google Keyboard that was updated on the Playstore and now most can have it for free.
Maybe there are a couple of other suggestions, but the last ones, 4 and 5, seem to have affected the most. I haven't had any lag but can't say that there is no lag, as there are a lot of people that seem to have it, so it seems that it maybe some productions issues if that's the case, that is affecting some, while others don;t have it.
Custom roms would be the only way to limit the lag, as most of the devs have pretty much put a stop to it. If you stay stock you will have to wait a LONG time until they release their slow ass updates.
I am running WanamLite with NO lag so far. The above post is about all your going to get running stock.
