Galaxy S4 Navi Software - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

all I can say is Wow thought its about time they did something like this to save on data use, but Please fix some of the issues with it, some serious.... random voice saying PREPARE FOR A U TURN on a bloody highway, even sitting at some lights yesterday about every 30 sec it was PREPARE FOR A U TURN, PREPARE FOR A U TURN when there is no chance a U turn was around the corner, today driving down a freeway in Perth it boomed out "turn right" as I drove over an overpass in other words it wanted me down on the underpass which was the turnoff to the left about 500m back its a good idea but really needs work

Sorry What Navi Software are you talking about?
Google Navigation?

You cant review on Play as its outside their site.
One thing that would be good is if you could instantly notify of mistakes, for example missing speed cameras or wrong directions

It's not galaxy s4 software. Definitely not on my version. Maybe your carrier included it. Either way, it's in the wrong section.

New Google Maps 4.1 is out! Faster GPS FIX on TP2(For Me) also supports voice search

I'll attach the cab. First thing i noticed was an almost instant GPS fix where before it would take up to two mins for a fix if I got one at all.
And of coarse Voice Search is now supported
I also downloaded the satellites before running it the first time enjoy.....

Telus fascinate gps no working

Hi,
gps has sucked on this phone since the beginning, but I thought update to 2.2 would fix it. Sadly it still does not work. And I don't mean it takes long for a lock or the accuracy is bad. It just has no idea where I am. Some gps status app I downloaded does not show any satillites.
I think I should go back and get a new one, or is gps broken for everyone?
Sent from my SGH-T959D using XDA App
Mine takes a fair bit of time to get a lock but i do get a very accurate signal onece it locks, it was very slow on 2.1 maybe a bit faster now on 2.2 but still realy sucks coming from my htc tp2 which got locks everytime within 5-10 seconds. If i try to get a fix when inside my house it will never happen, I have to be outside in clear view of the sky. I would say take it back it might be broken.
My phone also takes awhile to get a lock on Maps and such. I need to be outside and it usually takes around 5 -10 Minutes. when I do get a lock it is very accurate. I haven't upgraded to 2.2 yet so I'm not sure how it will work on that (hopefully better).
I would go into Telus and see if you can get it repaired/replaced
I had my GPS working like a charm with 2.1 and it all went to **** when I upgraded to 2.2.
Re-applying these settings fixed the locking issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732030
I now get a lock in under 30 seconds.
gps lock? what is that? (im sarcastic) but really, my telus fascinate running froyo never had any lock.
1 time while driving i had it on for fun, it had me perhaps within 10-15 blocks, and then it put me in the middle of the ocean.
ill try the link above to see if it helps.

Edit: for anyone else having the issue i did if you have launcher pro Create a shortcut - activity - LBSTESTMODE or get LbsTestModeLaunch from the market.

You probably didn't type it in right. You could try something like SGSTools from the market; it has lblTestMode in its list of "secret codes".
Try turning on your wireless.
So I went to Telus to get my phone replaced, and after about an hour of discussion they agreed to help me out. It was just over the 30 day exchange period, so they wanted me to give them my fascinate and $150 deposit for 4-6 weeks and give me a loaner feature phone. Crazy policy, but at least I was able to reason with them in the end.
GPS now works again, but it still takes a couple minutes to lock. On my old Acer Liquid E it takes 5 seconds. Both have Skyhook disabled. I'm really disappointed in Samsung. My next phone will probably be an HTC.
I'll upgrade to 2.2 when I get home, and see if that helps.

How much better/faster is it when you are outdoors since the test in that vid appears to be indoors?...
For folks having trouble, please try this. The file expires, so it must be done often, but if I can gauge a decent amount of success with it, I will get an app built for it.

no difference. I was by a window.
Just drove for about 30 min and it couldn't get a lock the whole trip. (I had the sun roof open even ... and it was cold)
This phone is just pathetic, but I don't know what to change to. I got it thinking it was the best android phone available...
You can complain how crappy the phone is, or take a proactive approach to fixing it. Did you even try my post above?

Ya I'm gonna try that later, but it requires root access and voiding my warranty. If a software fix is possible why wouldn't samsung release it? Do they want their phones to suck? Or maybe they fired all of their engineers because of the bad economy.
But ya, if Samsung doesn't release an update in the next month I'll see what the community can do.

GPS issue.... Won't hold lock

Has anyone else been experiencing GPS not holding lock or not locking at all? There are tons of people having the problem in the Google groups.... Surprising to not see more about it here..... Let's get the word out if you do.... Mine will not keep a lock no matter what.... Many resets and other nonsense.... It will sometimes lock but loose it on the move or just drop the lock without moving....
Here are some of the fixes that have been tried / tested:
resetting back to stock
removing google services
downgrading maps
changing settings for WIFI
user data wipe
clear cache
Some of those may temporarily fix it, but any sort of long term use the issue always comes back.

I think the guy fixed his problem but I don't remember how. Sorry

yeah, there are been several people that "claim" to have fixed it but... it's not really fixed. there have been many different "solutions" thrown around over in the groups but, again none of them worked long term. it might work for a little while, but not for very long. anyone that has a N7 i suggest you test it out.... Try bringing up maps, cache the offline map and try to use the GPS to navigate somewhere.... It will drop off everytime.
Google is going to have to release a patch, that is going to be the only fix!!

so... what's the deal here. I don't see how more people aren't having this problem with the responses on the google site. have people been successful using it? or do u not use it at all anyway? or is it because you have a ROM that it works on? please let me know.
My temporary solution (as suggested by others) is to ONLY allow 1 app which may access GPS.
So I disabled Earth, Maps, GPS Tester (some widgets may use GPS too) ... only leave Sygic navigator. I've navigated a few long drives without issue. Re-enable those apps will bring back troubles.
This works with different ROMs, so it's not a ROM problem.
Hopefully Google will have a fix soon.
yeah, that only seems to work for a short period of time too! thanks though!
well, at least it's out in the open now and it will force googles hand!

I haven't touched Google services, just simply disabled (GPS-accessing) apps such as Maps, Earth, GPS Tester.
I only left one app (Sygic) on my Tab. The last few days, I've had no issue with GPS navigation. Everytime I've tried,
I got GPS locks within a few seconds. I've done a few drives (mostly under 1-hr) and everything is normal and accurate.
I've not seen it fail yet.
It isn't 'failing' at start, necessarily. It won't keep lock after stopping and starting.
Can you enter address. navigate to the address. Stop and them do it again?

Like going to work ... going to lunch .. going home .. I fired up the app fresh (I clear recent apps often)
haha.. I had quite a few struggles since day one, so I know how to make it fail.
I can start-close/stop-restart Sygic multiple times without failing. But if I re-enable those (GPS) apps and
switch between them ---> GPS no-longer works.
I have never had a issue using Osmand GPS yesterday. Locked on quickly each time after device was put to sleep about 5 times in a moving car ( i was the passenger at the time).
joined the forum to say i'm having the same issue with GPS (and possibly compass). looks like google is aware so that is at least good.
bought the tablet to use in an in-dash car install. loved it until yesterday and today when i started doing more in car function testing. wanted to test the google maps app out out while driving but the compass oriented me cocked in the wrong direction and spun around like a dradle before gps lost me completely. for a bit i thought omg, maybe it's so cheap because they got rid of the GPS chip.
i have to say i hate the google maps application right now too. the old google navigation app was incredible for "chase view" which gave you. the new google maps app is supposed to integrate the nav feature but you must be on a specified route. it's terrible, going to search for the old APK.

thanks! just downloaded and will try it out (once this gps issue gets fixed).
Suggestion to try by others.
"Go into settings, all apps, locate ‘network location’, clear cache, clear data, reboot and try using GPS again. Seen this behavior on another device where it didn’t like the backed up app data restored from the previous device."
NONE of the "fixes" are permanent. As soon as you start moving it loses your location, even if it hold it for an hour.... IT WILL eventually drop out again. All these "fixes" are a waste of time, i have done every single one posted in all teh forums they have talked about N7s. and it ALWAYS goes back to not working again.
it's just frustrating to have a brand new device that doesn't work properly, and then on top of it to do all these silly fixes and research for none of them to work either. bout to take it back and say forget it.

[Q] My Tracks going crazy last 2 weeks?

Hi,
I noticed that for about last 2 weeks Google app called My Tracks is acting rather crazy. I'm using mobile data and have GPS on, and I want to record my driving or running tracks - but it seems that I loose signal every few hundred meters because there is nothing on the map marked. Then it starts tracking again and stops... No idea what's causing it. Is anyone esle having same issue?
After 15 minutes running it showed my average moving speed as 26km/h which would be great if it was real, but it's not.. 15 minutes running and only 3 minutes moving time according to My Tracks.
Help please!

For me, it's not just My Tracks. It's my Maps and Navigation as well. For some reason, no matter if I'm running X-Note, KnoxRaid, or the Verizon port rom, I cannot get a gps lock. It's kind of working, it will update my location with horrible accuracy but the GPS icon continues to blink and it never seems to get a true gps lock.
I don't know how to resolve this, but I'm not a noob to flashing or odin. If any devs out there would help us out, it would be greatly appreciated. FYI I'm on 4.3 and MI9.
Please help...I will definitely donate if a solution is posted here!! (Just quote me so I'm alerted!)

i'm on stock touchwiz rom, just rooted. it used to work okay for a while, but now it doesn't record whole tracks.
i don't use maps or navi so often, but i remember that i put both maps and my tracks at the same time, and i don't remember maps showing wrong position.. if no solution will be posted here, i'll go to samsung service.

i had a long trip yesterday, i can confirm that sygic navigation is working fine (maybe it got stuck for few seconds 2-3 times during my ride).
but my tracks is still recording like 10% of what i drived... and i have second note 3 that i took with me today, did a ride around my town and the result was that my primary note 3 is loosing signal (but only in my tracks) and the frest stock note 3 does not.. hmmm..

What drives the GPS?

I'll be to the point. I have bought an O2 (UK) N9005 for me, to be used in India. I think it is completely unlocked as it is perfectly running each and every ROM meant for N9005. I am facing GPS lock issues with the device ever since. While on a particular ROM (Darklord S6) the GPS works fine (temporarily until restart) with the help of the app "GPS status and fix". This made me think if the GPS is region dependent, or it depends on the kernel (as referred by my fellow XDAian). I need some expert help to find a way to fix this problem for good!
Kernel should be the driver .
I would start with stock O2 firmware .
Nah, I don't think its kernel or ROM or anything but the GPS antenna and antenna only. So mainly and totally hardware. I have weird GPS issues too! On both S4 and Note 2 I had super fast GPS lock, indoor, outdoor doesn't matter. They both were Exynos versions though. But with my Note 3 (N9005) I can't get a lock inside. I have to go near windows or outside to get a lock, and then that lock stays inside too until I reboot the phone. However rebooting an Android phone will reset the A-GPS data, so its normal to not get a lock after a reboot.
You can just change the region to India, by using Faster Fix app, or just by using the Indian GPS.conf file, see if it helps in anything.

I have been an Indian Note 2 user too. Had no GPS problems with that. Will try your suggestions now and see what happens..
EDIT: Hey bro! While the FasterFix app didn't solve the problem (also, Its dev said not to use it on Android 4.2+), I just discovered an app on play store that worked miraculously! It has fixed the problem for good. My phone catches the satellites in just 1 second now! And that's when I am indoors. Haven't tested it outdoors yet! It's unbelievable to say at least!! I strongly recommend you to give it a try..

Dude this app is magic, the urban kids will use the word dope I suppose.
However I don't understand one thing, right now I am on ground floor of my premise and no windows are open or anything, so naturally there are no satellites in view, but still this app says GPS location is set! I mean what the heck! I will try to go to first floor and see what happens when the phone actually catches some satellites, but too lazy to move now
You could go HERE ^ DL the GPS.conf file for your country (or closest if not listed) - it helps. Don't forget to change the permissions...
