Bravia Engine Stopped working - Bootloader is not Unlocked - Xperia Z General

Hi Guys,
I've just Flashed a .253 firmware using Flashtool and found that the Bravia Engine 2 is not working. Tried a second ftf and the same.
This phone's Bootloader has not been unlocked.
Any ideas?

Have you tried checking the status of your DRM keys to make sure they are still ok? You can do this from the service tests. And does Track ID still work?

I believe if you go into security you should see MARLIN as OK and Active. Then if you go into Verify Certificates you should see some certificates, though I think the first part with MARLIN being OK is more important as even with unlocked bootloader mine shows certificates.

OK thanks for the help - All seems to check out and TrackID is working.
I think BE2 is working for Video's but not for Images viewed in the Gallery...Very odd...

Sometimes on mine it happens so fast I can't tell it's working? Then other times I can see it get applied. Maybe it's just that? Otherwise have you tried a reboot, that might help?

Yeah i've seen that occur before but i have 2 XZ's side by side, and the stock images look exactly the same as the other XZ with BE2 turned off (this was a 3 UK version that recieved the update OTA) - It's a little hard to tell but i'm sure it's working ok with the HD landscape video...Reboot is just same :/

Hmmm, i've just done a Factory Reset and it's now working - must have been some odd Glitch!
Anyway - thanks for your help!
All working as normal now!

Unlocking bootloader pictures with t-rex &elves work!

Yes everyone now knows that unlocking the bootloader breaks camera, but strangely not with the elves and t-rex stuff, as I was still able to take pictures as long as those filters were on. I just clicked on the t-rex picture in the widget. I really think this is a bug and not related to sony software or else why would pictures of t-rex on my desktop computer still work? running the.34 uk unbranded firmware on C6903.
Also worth noting, I forgot to yank my 64gb micro sd card, and it isn't erased.
Timeshift also work, but it's not really news, Doomlord has posted it before somewhere

Please how can i bring back camera fonctionality with my unlock bootloader no backup ta partion .
Don't know if there is a way but as a warning to everyone else, you should always backup your TA partition before messing around with the bootloader. In fact, it's so easy, that you should back it up even if you don't.

BRAVIA ENGINE 2 WORKS on unlocked in 4.4 !

It's working again! Even after getting my drm keys lost, BE2 is working after the 4.4 update! still having BL unlocked, running stock kernel not rooted
I was hoping for this after reading this tweet from DooMLoRD some time ago.
Anyone else confirm it? If so, my bootloader will remain unlocked after rooting KitKat.
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk
Works. Unlocked bootloader, 10.5.A.0.230 Generich Schweiz and DooMLoRD's advanced stock kernel -> link
even in movies?
So we can use any custom kernel and bravia engine works?
Sent from my C6603 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
will this only work if you are previously unlock the bootloader then upgrade to KitKat
or
will it also work if you unlock the bootloader after you upgrade to KitKat ?

More sounds like as long as you have 4.4, DRM stuffs like BE2 will work anyway. Awaiting for confirmation from devs.
maybe someone who claims it to be working can post before and after pictures of BE? although it can be easily done with PS, im sure no one here is immature enough to pull of something like that.
bump up!!
m really interested in this.... devlprs pls confirm
How can I know is working?
Upgrade to 4.4 and see if there's a difference in picture quality with bravia on and off.

correct me if I'm wrong .. but I think Bravia engine is a post-processing system .. so it doesn't really matter how you took the picture ..
you can actually notice some (subtle) changes happening when you look at the picture at Album with BE on ..
the same goes with Video ..
posting pictures here would not make any different, because the raw data is the same ..

lol its doesnt work like that its post-processing engine that work on actual screen, not on images, you should take picture using camera not screenshot :]

You're both wrong. I didn't talk about taking pictures but on taking screenshots. It's different when u use screenshot option, u collect information in real time from ur screen so BE2 effects will be visible on screenshoot image. Take screenshot (in xperia album app) with on and off and compare it on ur PC.
There are a few things flashed to TA so it's possible, but wouldn't that work only if you flash using Emma?
As seus and pc companion don't work with unlocked bl.
The custom ftf around don't flash anything to ta.
I relocked bootloader and restored my Ta so can't say what it did as I wasn't paying attention, might be worth experimenting with.
Just a quick musing.
If it has restored drm, then I wonder if unlocking would improve camera quality on custom roms.

I'd guess that it's removed the DRM checks from BE2 etc rather than restoring the DRM keys to the TA partition. I could be wrong, but it doesn't seem likely that the unique DRM keys could be generated and pushed to the TA partition by an update.

But it is compatible? Now try but could
So, what do you guys think about this update? Is it really worth it? Curious to know.
The biggest reason for me to change was to get Remote Play to link with my PS4. Also, the applications button is now shifted to the middle of the bottom edge. Other than that, I haven't noticed any huge changes that blew me away.
Remote Play is pretty cool though, tried it out for a little bit last night and it was good enough to play Call of Duty campaign mode.

Well, technically, it's not such a big deal, to swap kernels/ramdisk with an unlocked bootloader. It's a simple edit. But, at this point, it would mean unlocking bootloader, and losing DRM keys (still not sure what functions besides some lost advanced camera functions, not that anybody uses the camera anyhow except for skype).
Under the old rooting, it used an exploit to modify ramdisk, (and install the necessary apps), without unlocking bootloader via an exploit.
As for me, I will wait a couple weeks and see if there's a new exploit. If not, well, I will do the above method.

Basically DRM keys are used to see if you have unlocked the device (in the past). So mainly for Sony to check if your warranty is still valid.
There is a tool that will backup your DRM keys though, and can restore it too. You just need root for that (just downgrade, root, backup keys and upgrade again) Just Google Xperia DRM backup and you're bound to find out

Pre-rooted 32.0.A.5.32 firmware - one-click root for unlocked BL

Update 29.10.15
No need to flash pre-rooted firmware anymore. Use TWRP for Z5C instead.
I have prepared a pre-rooted 32.0.A.5.32 firmware (based on Nordic Combined, but I don't think the system partition differs).
Unlock your bootloader and use the following one-click solution to flash Zombie b1 kernel (with 32.0.A.5.32 ramdisk) and a pre-rooted system partition. I strongly suggest that you upgrade to stock 32.0.A.5.32 before flashing this, to make sure you get latest BL/modem/etc.
The firmware is not deodexed. I tried to deodex it but couldn't get it to boot.
Help is appreciated, since Xposed doesn't work with odexed roms.
Download:
Z5C_OnClick_320A532.7z
N.B! Only tested on E5823. Will probably not work on other models.
Xposed should work with odex ROM.

Thank you nilezon. Cheers for the quick reply.
I was curious as this setting is related to DRM. According to http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/general/loss-drm-keys-t2890936 the Z3 compact loses the tap to wake feature with unlocked bootloader (i.e. DRM loss).

This ROM is just stock+root. Any other battery experience than stock is just placebo.
Like nilezon wrote, nothing different from stock.
Although now you can remove more ****ty apps.
Which leads slight better batterylife
