Hi!
Is there an app or short cut for this? I mean to do in a proper way through settings. You know settings/storage/unmount.
My device is rooted and the USB mounts automatically, so it pops up in MXplayer, EZ file explorer etc.

Tried it, doesn't work. Thanks anyway.
Here you go.
Stickmount is great but this app has worked flawless for both my gs3 and n2.
Try b it out.

I used this np on my n2 even when my n2 was being recognized as gnex due to my rom.

I just picked up a xoom a couple days ago and am waiting on one of the OTG cables that were linked in the accessories page. I'm wondering how one goes about transferring files from a camera to internal storage? I noticed there isn't a built in file manager so maybe using something like ES file explorer? Being that I haven't received the cable yet, I can't just try it out.
And I did search, but the XDA app sucks. Search xoom and you get everything else...
Any help would be appreciated.

I use the HD File Manager app which works great. Have to admit I haven't tested importing pics from a camera yet.
Use Drive Mount to....well mount your camera so it's viewable in the file manager.

Is the OP rooted?
No, I'm not, but don't have a problem with being rooted.

Please correct me if I've missed something, but I believe you have to be rooted with a custom kernel/rom that supports usb host mode to do what you want to do. If you do want to root, here's a guide you could use: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1249798
You may have to hunt down the most up to date kernels/roms for the last step, but that's easy.
I think I'm correct here but there is no slot for an SD on the Nexus 7 is there?

Yeap cloud storage, and also AirDroid when you're at home or around a computer makes things quite easy and there's always the option once you're rooted of just using a USB flash drive, and I can't imagine not rooting this thing, that would just be crazy.
I was reading the manual, it talks about using the USB port for keyboard, mouse, etc, but not about USB sticks or external HDD. Can the N7 natively detect the USB stick and allow me to access its content? Or do I need a kernel with USB OTG + Terminal Emu command + an adapter?

You should learn how to search. There are few guides on USB OTG.

I have read them. What I don't understand is if this is native or a kernel hack.

Buy an OTG cable, and plug it in. Add peripheral of your choice. There have been hundreds of reports stating that the Nexus 7 does OTG natively. thats what he meant by "Search".

Put OTG in the Forum Search for Nexus Q&A topics and you get 109 threads. Most of them talking about obtaining an OTG cable and using StickMount which itself needs your device to be rooted.
Yes you will need to root and install stickmount before you can use a flash stick or card reader with the nexus. It will work fine with a mouse or keyboard stock but must be rooted for adding more storage.
Do you need to root the Nexus 10 in order to use a Usb-OTG to USB flash drive?
I have a usb-otg that worked with one of my older tablets but nothing seems to happen with my N10.
Any help will be very appreciated.
Thanks.

Let me add to my question....
Will usb-otg only work for non rooted devices with the Nexus Media Importer app installed?

I've already answered these questions and made a video showing it works without root.
Search please, but to answer your question.
Yes Nexus Media Importer will work just fine with an OTG cable.
I had to delete sonic 2 just to update it. We need to be able to save to flash sticks. If they don't fix these soon they will start losing money.

You can mount NTFS drives out of the box.
And you can use an app to move data files off to the HDD to save space.

Yes, but just to explain what is meant by mount in this case is that the OUYA reads it in it's internal file structure. Without doing more, you can only transfer files or read FROM an NTFS hard drive. You cannot WRITE to an NTSF drive currently, nor can you use it for extra APP storage, without doing more with different apps and stuff, I'm not really sure of the process.
I am currently using a 1TB Western Digital HDD full of PS1/Genesis/SNES ROM's.
We need to be able to write and read to the USB stick. Using the ouya os.

You can use link2sd but you need to create a second partition ext4 for that.
