[Q] Defy - no boot and no recovery after root - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, - I'm a noob in this.
I'm working on my Motorola Defy and my Ubuntu 13.04 machine.
I:
1) Rooted my device using these guides: "wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_jordan"
and
.ibm.com/developerworks/community/blogs/coolwinding/entry/how_to_root_defy_on_linux1?
2) I got the CyanogenMod installed and it worked. I needed to install Gapps so I followed this guide
linux.com/learn/tutorials/698725-how-to-install-cyanogenmod-on-an-android-phone
3) When I tried rebooting my phone to install Gapps I couldn't boot into the recovery utility. I only had the possibilities: "reboot system now", "apply sdcard:update.zip", "wipe data/factory reset" and "wipe cache partition".
I tried them all (I was really stuck!) but after the wipe data/factory reset I can't even boot in the Rom, so now I'm totally stuck with these four options as all there is!
In the bottom I get:
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/command
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/caller
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/log
- I see these are common but it is always resolved by booting the phone in the rom and I'm not able to do that.
I read that the Defy is not easily bricked, but what is there to do now? adb can't find the device from the SDcard only.
What2do?

*In my opinion you should start again from clean SBF if you don´t know how to flash it in LINUX Guide is HERE(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076138). Just make sure you are flashing the right SBF for your Phone.
*THEN root it as it is said here (https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/...ding/entry/how_to_root_defy_on_linux1?lang=en) *Alow USB debugging and unknown aplications and install 2ndinit apk (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032212)
*THEN reboot and watch your phone, wait for the blue LED turns on and pres volume down.
*Select custom recovery and flash for example CM7 from HERE (http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?type=stable&device=jordan) and GAPPS (http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip) and reboot
*Now you have CM7 and working phone
** You can try CM10 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1768702), CM10.1(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2013059) by Quarx ...... FOR CM10.1 you need MINI GAPPS (http://d-h.st/users/tejus.k.v)

It worked! Thank you very much. I'm SO tired now.

In order to install zips you have to reboot to clockworkmod recovery by pressing vol down when the defy boots up showing the blue led instead of entering the stock one

I'm facing the same problem here, after flash full sbf rom, it's possible to flash again, but with same result, i can't wipe since android won't start and i can't install clockwork.
any hint, clue or point for some documentation/tutorial is apreciated

this is what solve the problem for me:
boot in recovery : pull out the batterie, boot with volume down and power.
when you see the android and the triangle, volume down + volume up, when in recovery, wipe data and cache.
i have the folowing "warnings"
wipe data/factory reset:

the next boot took aprox 10 mins
hope this helps

hey, if you are stuck in an android logo, it means its the infinite boot-loop thing..
PLEASE make sure you are CORRECTLY trying to get into stock recovery or bootloader.
Here is what to do to get into recovery first:
1- turn off your phone (take the battery out and then put it back in)
2- press and OLD the volume DOWN button + power button
3- Motorola logo appears first, then after a few seconds an 'android ROBOT logo' appears
4- press volume UP and DOWN buttons at once, quickly
5- from the menu choose 'factory reset/wipe-format data'
6- then do 'wipe cache'
7- then do a reboot
see if it helps and you are able to start the phone normally
P.S. don't worry - a bootloop is a considerably easy thing to fix, at least i managed to fix mine yesterday.
good luck

Hi ! Are you sure you took the good rom for your defy ? Is it a regular defy or a + ? Because you need to have the good rom for the good defy version ( at least for gb rom). Then before installing the rom with the recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cahe (in advanced) and even data if you come from 2.x to 4.x. (same thing from 4.x to 2.x).
It would work

Thanks for this method even if I knew it. The first time I tried to flash a sbf it was awefull because nobody says it clearly. Wipe data, cache and dalvik in recovery doesn't work at all I experimented it again yesterday.
Please specify me the good GBROM!

Hi here the one I use : http://www.partage-facile.com/V96TH...nfryortcee_p016_a016_hwp3_service1ff.sbf.html
PS : It's in French but just go on "telechargement gratuit (VITESSE NORMALE)" and then on "télécharger ce fichier"
Follow the steps given by your_login and you should end with a froyo ROM. After it's as usual to install a custom ROM (root , 2nd init, wipes...)
Also when you are in bootloop remove the battery and restart the phone. When there is the blue led with the M logo press volume down and then go into recovery > stable recovery. I think it's better than your method
My phone is bricked after flashing!

The method as you tryed is stock recovery, if you try to enter CWM recovery
after rooted, you must install Defy system recovery
- put system recovery.apk into SD card
- enable(Turn on) Unknown sources and USB debugging in Application settings
- install system recovery.apk from SD card (Use File manager or Root Explorer)
- Open System recovery App and Select Install Recovery system, it will show "Install success"
- Before reboot (Recovery reboot), you must Turn off "USB debugging"
Otherwise, defy will stuck in black screen
OK, If you want to reboot to CWM recovery mode, you can open System recovery App and Select Recovery boot
or Try that

What I always do when I flash something and it goes wrong is enter bootloader mode and flash a new sbf. I'm fairily sure to do that you hold power and volume up while booting.

[Q] Install CM10 on Motorola MB526 BL7 DFP-231

Hello!
I search how to install CyanogenMod10 on my Defy MB526 BL7 DFP-231.
My config:
Rooted system: 45.0.2310.MB526.AsiaRetail.en.03
Original system: 45.0.2310.MB526.Retail.en.FR
Build: 4.5.1-134_DFP-231
Boot Loader version: 9.10
I have rooted my cell and tried this solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30992824&postcount=2
The first problem is that: i haven't got, or i don't find it, menu advanced with "wipe dalvik cache" in the recovery mod
I have installed ClockWorkMod but when i reboot with him (checked wipe data cache, dalvik cache & selected new rom for install) my cell boot on the classic recovery mod or freeze on the motorola boot logo.
I am lost, thank's in advance for your help
Sorry for my bad english :/
it looks like you are entering normal motorola recovery, if you say you've installed CWM ( ClockWorldMod Recovery) then you need to wait until a green light turns on at boot ( after the blue one) and quickly press <VOLUME UP>, and then you will be at CWM recovery.

then how did you installed cwm? if you dont have the lights at boot, then you havent installed 2ndinit.
you should instald 2ndinit via apk defy.wdscript.fr/jordan-nightly/SndInitDefy/SndInitDefy_2.0.apk (i can't post links sorry)
then open the app (while usb debuggin on) and hit install 2ndinit buttom, witch will also install the recovery
that is the oficial metod with the defy, once you do that you'll get the blue and green lights at boot. (durring the Motorola logo)
presing <volume up> while the blue light is on enters bootmenu, and presing <volume up > while the green light is on enters CWM recovery

Also, did you manage to wipe cache and wipe dalvik after you flashed the CM10 zip? If not, you should do it just to make sure. I often get stuck on moto logo when I flash roms and wiping cache/dalvik plus taking the battery out makes it better.

Problems after resetting.

So I wiped cache and so on now the thing is hanging at the Motorola screen and that's it.
I tried to get a sbf but all who should be compatible are down so that I pretty much am freaked.
Is there a way to get at least now a clean rom on it maybe something new 4.4.2 without SDCard or is that also a nogo?
----
So if your phone won'T boot and you just have a white light or nothing at all. You probably have less battery power to sbf flash something.
I used the Jumper cable method from Sorensiim.
That worked like a charm.
If you are looking for sbf files. Here are some.
----
So now I rooted that thing and tried to install bootmenu. Iused the adb method with ./install.sh permission denied after the copy procedure was complete ((data/bootmenu chmod etc.). I tried 2ndinit with the problem that the program hangs after the download. So what is it now that freakin thing wants me to do?
----
Got Bootmenu installed now the Defy has a Bootloop. For a short time before it loops the white led blinks. No volume up or volume down work.
----
Hanging at M logo on re-boot
Having rooted the phone . . .
1. Switch on and await blue LED
2. Press volume down to enter Android Boot Menu (v 1.1.8-jordan)
3. Recovery
4. Custom Recovery > Cyanogen Defy Recovery (v5.0.3.1-jordan)
5. Wipe Data / Factory Reset
6. Wipe Cache Partition
7. Advanced > Wipe Dalvik Cache
8. Install zip from SD card
9. Toggle signature verification to Disabled
10. Toggle script asserts to Disabled
11. Choose zip from SD card
12. Apply zip from SD card
13. Reboot
14. Hangs at M logo
Tried with and without step 10.
The zip files tried are the only two ‘nightlies’ on the XDA website, as I have been unable to find the last ‘stable’ version.
Can anyone help please?
