[Q] can rc CM101be installed on rooted NC with dualboot cm7/cm9? - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a rooted NC and dualboot using the guide and resources in Taosaur's excellent "[eMMC][2/22]Dual Boot Guide 2.0: Any Combination[Stock 1.4.1][CM7.1+][CM9]". My question is: Is it possible for me to install the new rc CM7 101 into (and over) the partition currently used by CM9 by using/modifying the instructions in that guide? Or is this available only in a dualboot zip created for this purpose? If so, where can I get it? The expansion of this simple little device's os by these genuises has wonderfully extended its capabilities and I look forward to taking advantage of even more improvements made possibile by these exceptional individuals who so generously share their work with us. Thank you!

[Q] Flashable Android-based ROM - Questions from Newbie

Hi everyone,
I just flashed the ChuckyRom along with Radio v.2.12. I've also been using Android on my HD2 (MUCH thanks to all the talented devs on-board the project) and wondered why I didn't get a phone with Android OS from the getgo. That thought led me to the following super-newbie questions:
1) What's the current status on flashable Android-based rom development? I've been flashing so many WinMo-based roms. Is there an Android-based one, so I can have it as the standard OS on my phone?
(I've heard from quite a few people that I can have Android boot up automatically from start-up using a few tweaks. However, this would still involve booting up from SD card as opposed to having it flashed permanently on my phone.)
2) What seems to be the biggest hurdle to overcome in getting Android OS flashed on an HD2?
Thanks in advance for all of your inputs.
Best,
John
1. It is not a priority, but Cotulla (remember that name) is believed to be working on it, rumour has it it's going to be released even this month. Not seen this confirmed by an official source though, so don't expect it.
2. Not too experienced myself, but from what I've heard it's about decrypting, or making Android compatible with, this filesystem called NAND. A flash-able ROM could probably have been here already, but the devs wanted to focus on delivering quality & bugfree ROMs first, and bonuses such as NAND later on.

Dual booting feature for any modded roms for Elocity A7

Hello folks,
Soon I will purchase an Elocity A7 (after I receive my tax refund).
I was wondering if there will be work on creating dual booting feature for this unit to allow me to create a custom rom based on Gingerbread or Honeycomb whichever is available at the time.
I would like the AOSP Gingerbread or Honeycomb to boot from the sdcard instead of internal storage. That gives me more freedom to update the kernel (via grabbing updates thru WiFi from a local network hosted webserver) with the minor modifications to boost the stability/squash bugs and other things before I can release it to the public for pleasure of using it in everyday use.
----- Edit
Because I can't post yet any links, I'm giving you the forum thread name here that is found on these forums: "[ADV] Boot menu for the Nook Color [2011-02-21]"

OK I got the A7 tablet yesterday and installed the dexter mod 1.3 and I'm having fun with the device. Now I just have to prepare a linux environment to compile the kernel and the modules.
Also have to look in offering dual booting.
Ytain
Unfortunately I won't be able to compile ICS or JB because my computer is very old and doesn't support 64 bit environment required by the building process be that in Linux or Windows. However I can build the kernel with the 32 bit compilers/tools with no issue, but the ICS or JB doesn't like the 32 bit compilers/tools.
I'm still plagued by OOM freezes and a strange Google Play Services install error that prevents me from installing the latest version of Youtube.
Sorry for letting you down.

1. It customizes the look of the device; sort of.
2. No.
3. No.
4. Recoveries that you can boot into; flashing ROMs.
5. CM10.
If you want more detailed info, search for it, it's literally all over XDA.
Question 2
Explain number 4 a little more and tell me what a flashing rom is please
lol. Those were some pretty short answers.
A ROM is the operating system of the phone. Android is open source so anyone can customize the OS and make changes. Those can be performance changes, having certain apps installed by default (or removed in most cases since cell companies load Android phones with so much crap), visual changes by modifying the stock theme, or complete re-writes as is the case with MIUI. If you like iOS then you would probably feel very at home moving to an MIUI based ROM
A Theme can usually be installed onto any ROM and it just modified the way the OS looks.
The recovery is where you boot the device into in order to flash a custom ROM or kernel, or some system apps, or things like that. You use TWRP or CWM as a replacement for the limited and locked down stock recovery that the phone/tablet comes with.
Be sure to look at what features come with a ROM before deciding. Many early ROMs are labelled as alpha or beta builds and usually contain lots of bugs and have missing things and some areas that dont even work at all. Nexus devices usually dont have alpha ROMs though since they work 100% with Google source and have no cracking to do because nothing is locked down at all.
Help
By recovery what do you mean like revert it back to factory setting what is it used for, thank you for good awnsers! btw

Who can get me a server with SSH?

Hi. I'm a 17-year old developer from the Netherlands, who was the first to get Ice Cream Sandwich booting on the HTC Desire. Then I released MIUI, CM7 and AOKP for the HTC Flyer and I was the first with every one of them
I have also been repackaging factory images for Android 4.3 for the Nexus 7 to make flashable ZIPs, and I released a nightly build of OmniROM. In case you're wondering why OmniROM Unofficial Build is not getting an update: I preferred to spend my time to prepare for KitKat.
But now that KitKat is available, I want to work as quick as possible to give you the latest best stuff for our Nexus 7. A custom ROM with features from Android 4.3 custom ROMs is what I strive to. However, I don't have a server or fast machine which is capable of compiling Android in a few hours (my machine with a dual core E2180 takes about 9 hours). This is really counter-productive as I need that box for other purposes as well. So I was wondering if anyone can give me access to a Linux box, with SSH access, and at least about 50GB free space (Ubuntu preferred). That way, I can release updates for unofficial builds of KitKat with new features much quicker.
If you think you have a machine that may be suitable for this, please reply And thanks in advance!
Sorry, I do not own such a machine, but I came here to vouch for this guy.
He was an excellent guy to have around the Flyer forums, and is sure one heck of a developer.
If you do have a box to spare, I would recommend giving it to Chaosz-X

Android 4.4.4 on Acer A500 Working Partially
I was running ICS 4.03 and installed the 4.4.4 from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2705989
Using Skrilax V9 bootloader and CWM 6.0.4.5.
Omnirom Kitkat loads up fine but cannot restore apps through Titanium Backup and as it reports no Root access.
Also Google Play cannot locate this device but I can log in and see my apps using the stock Browser that was installed.
Made several attempts with Google Android Manager to no avail.
I assume this custom ROM has root access correct? If true, don't understand why Titanium Backup is complaining.
Location is set for Wi-Fi and mobile network to determine location.
So for now cannot restore my apps locally via Titanium Backup until I get to the bottom of the issue.
Your guidance appreciated as well as the work to make this ROM available to such a broad audience.
DISREGARD, I am getting everything working in the light version.
Rom for Acer A500
Hello I am new to the forum and also the modding and not perlo language very well.
I tried to flash the recovery "update-recovery-thor2002ro-rev1.7.3" the "OmniROM-4.4.4-Tegraowners ROM v21" the work went well but sometimes I crash.
Can you tell me what is currently the OmniROM 4.4.4 better and more stable than those in the first page, and if I can flash with the current recovery, (update-recovery-thor2002ro-rev1.7.3), pointing to the steps to do because I lost in the discussion not knowing the language in fact I am using the translator.
thanks

I used the instructions found at the beginning of the 4.4.4 Light version thread as the full version gave me issues. I didn't use the Thor recovery, Skrilax version 9 instead.

flickering screen with Facebook?????
I installed v6 of omni ROM on my Acer a500, and just updated to the newest version. Both ROMs are am some and smooth, but I have just one issue when I have Facebook open for a few minutes, I go to scroll down then the screen starts to flicker and I can't do anything. And to use it again I have to reboot otherwise I just get a black screen. It happens on both versions of the ROM, anyone else have this issue???. Thanks for any replies
Hello , I am trying to flash this rom on my Acer a500 and I get this error :
This package is for "picasso.a500" device this is a "ventana".
E:error
Status (7)
Could anyone help me with this issue?
Lockups
yeah i have been having a few issues along the same lines, i think its more to do with disk 'bandwidth' usage than the cpu. With low data throughput apps running it will run for days without issue, start downloading at 500kB/s (or sometimes as little as 370kB/s) and do some other disk intensive task and pop its gone! this could be biased a bit by my experience of it as i quite often use the A500 to dl things or load it up with stuff before a journey etc.. have also had it get stuck in deep sleep modes but think thats the disk issue as well...
Could it be overfilling it disk buffers or something? not much experience with android hardware but this tablets a bit old now and new roms may be expecting the inbuilt storage to be performing a little faster than the a500's can deal with
Also have tried all the available i/o schedulers and none seem to have and noticeable difference in time between hangs, although without bothering to setup proper test conditions i cant really say much really
oops was meant to be in reply to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60787006&postcount=293 meh....
LNX partition not loading?
Hello and sorry if it's an easy question but it's my first time trying to install roms. I've followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2705989 to install OmniRom 4.4.4 on my iconia A500. I installed Skrilax bootloader V9 and then CWM 6.0.4.5 on my device and up to now everything worked well. I then put OmniRom 4.4.4 build 8 and gapp pico on a micro sd card, wiped data using CWM then install the rom (from /storage/sdcard1) then installed the gapp (also from /storage/sdcard1), then wiped cache partition and rebooted. I've been stuck on the Skrylax "booting android image from LNX partition" for half an hour now... Where did I make a mistake?

Using TWRP-2.6.3.0 to install Omni 4.4.4
Hi all,
Just want to know if it does matter to use TWRP-2.6.3.0 (instead of 2.6.3.1) to install Omni 4.4.4...???
Anyway, the installation went through w/out any issue. I'm using my revived Acer-A500 (was bricked for almost 2 yrs).
W/out this XDA-Dev's great resource, I would not be able to revive my bricked Acer-A500 & running Omni 4.4.4 (CM-11) now.
Many thanks to everyone on the board, especially, Skrilax, blackthund3r, civato & all the great XDA-Dev team...!!!
Cheers,
JKS
