how can I put my phone in stock recovery mode? I tried holding both volume keys down and power, it just powercycles. Even if let go on the second screen off. if I continue on holding - it just powercycles. If i hold vol down and power - it goes into download mode...
I have Clockwork installed. If I start recovery from ROM Manager it bypasses stock recovery straight to Cloclwork menu. I am trying to install battery percentage indicator, which I can only do thru stock recovery menu. How can I start stock rec mode?...
Also it says DO NOT INSTALL this lag fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765820 using ROM MANAGER. So how can I install it then??
in clockwork recovery theres an option to boot into regular recovery. i believe its in advanced settings?
adb is your friend. seriously, how have people on this forum not figured this out yet? (I don't actually even know how to reboot into recovery with just the buttons off the top of my head)
either "adb reboot recovery" or download "Terminal Emulator" from the marketplace type "su" and then "reboot recovery"

Should I delete it from my internal after I have the battery indicator installed, should I get rid of that update.zip? I did a backup using ROM Manager before adding the battery indicator. So I have my former ROM and Current ROM backed up.
OMG, I've been going crazy trying to get my phone into boot screen all night. Thanks for this!

yea delete update.zip(battery indicator). open rom manager to install your clockwork recovery which will automatically put an update.zip(clockwork recovery) back on ur sd card. thus "update.zip" is just a rename for whatever program/file.
Also there is an app called quick boot in the market. Its free and will take you to stock reboot and recovery without going through the whole hold power
And vol up and down at same time. Is super easy to use. It have icon on my phone next to rom manager so one will be clockwork recov, and the othe stock.

I have a kernel that replaces stock recovery with clockworkmod. I'm trying to work out whether I can actually distribute such a thing, and also how to incorporate downloading it into my kernel build script so that I don't need to include it with the sources.

I'm pretty sure Koush said he wanted this from the start. The reason he changed the way clockwork recovery works for our phones was because recovery and the system are handled by the same part of system code, unlike with other phones.
He wanted to make it available to be incorporated into other kernels/ROMs instead of relying specifically on his kernel (which is why the roundabout happened from earlier where he offered the stock kernel to revert to)
It doesn't use a custom kernel, it's started from an update.zip normally.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Does our recovery system work the way it does because of lack of fastboot?
Another idea. is there something we can add to build.prop or perhaps init.rc so a command such as adb reboot clockwork would work? Just spitballing here.

Unless I'm mistaken, his original method did require a custom kernel or modified the stock kernel which is why he offered the stock kernel for people to reflash when he provided the final release.

So i had to Odin back to stock because in whatever rom i used i wouldnt get vibration for text messages. This worked fine and i flashed back to eugenes stock jk2 that was prerooted. Now i need to install new roms again and im having trouble. I have rom manager installed and superuser was already there. I got the rom on the sd card (tried with multiple roms), but when i go to flash the roms it fails because it can't verify the signature. Even when i go to fix permissions and reboot my phone like rommanager tells me to it cant flash a new rom. On the other roms i had i would just go to advanced options in recovery and disable verification checks but with the stock recovery i cant do this. So my main question is why isnt this option in cwm recovery and how can i get it there so i can start getting roms again. Thanks for anyone who takes the time to read this...
Make sure that you have CWM recovery flashed onto your phone using odin. Also make sure that whatever rom you install is on agreement with your software version.

Are you putting the rom on the internal memory?
Yea i copied it to the iternal sd, i see it on the internal sd, but the only way to reflash it is to rename it update.zip becauae all i can do is reinstall system packages
You have to download cwmrecovery, plug your phone in while in download mode and put cwmrecovery onto your phone. Just installing rom manager doesn't cut it and trying to flash anything will give the exact errors you're talking about.

You put the rom Just on the internal sd card not any folders right?
its doesent matter at least for me if the rom is right there or in a folder no difference just file called update.zip need to be there (not in the folder )
and no ! u cant flash clockwork recovry thru odin ! loL both of these program u mentioned are intended to flash roms not to be flashed as rom p u can flash in clockwork recovery if the rome is made for it which would be packed with .zip file if its odin file it would be .tar not every rom is flashable thru odin or clockwork depends how devs made it

If your phone reboots to stock recovery again, hit reinstall packages again and the second time it should put you right into Clockwork Recovery. Good Luck.

What rom are you currently running, still on Eugene's JK2? If you Odin'd a stock file, you may have 2e recovery, not the modded 3e. Check this thread, it may help you out with the stock recovery issue. In fact untermensch mentions this kind of issue specifically in the OP. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423

I just added this to the ACS, thanks for reminding me
Im sorry if this has been brought up before, but i couldnt find a thread with the same problem.. Whenever I try to do a backup with ClockWorkMod(before you ask yes i have flashed it) Anyway i click on the backup option, my phone then resets and boots into recovery, at which point it says "install default apk-files. please wait" and "install default apk-files. finished" and just stays there, with the normal recovery options, reboot, apply update, wipe data etc etc.. My phone is a rooted Galaxy S running stock Froyo.
Thanks in advance,

when you are in recovery what is the first thing it says ?? does is say android recovery system <3e> or does it have somethin like ClockWork Mod x.x.x.x (x being numbers)
It says "Android system recovery (3e)".
Had this same issue at one point, but this resolved it for me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...4#post10624454
Do yourself a favor and download Root Explorer from the Market so that you can apply the the file supplied in the zip.
the link to that thread is broken.
Not sure what happened but try this one:

thanks for that ill give it a try and let you know how it goes.
Nope still not working, thanks for the suggestion anyway
you need 2e to flash unsigned zips, your still on stock recovery.
quickest easiest way just flash speedmod or voodoo kernel, gives the phone extra performance too.
or if you just want recovery flash CF-ROOT.

Can you please provide the steps of what you've done? You said that this didnt work for you but did you follow the instructions? Did you reboot your phone into android recovery and choose the option for installing the update.zip? Are you using Rom Manager?
You're most likely trying to do a backup using rommanager. Same thing happens to me. When on the 3e screen just reboot and then straight away enter recovery using the 3 button method. It then enters 2e recovery and begins to backup automatically. Or just start the backup with the 3 button method instead.

Ive been tinkering since last night trying to get miui 2.10.12 on my nexus 7 and every time I get a "Installation Abort (Status 7)
how do I get it to finish installation?
ive tried with multiple roms, CM10, MIUI, Kang all have same result
I have clockwork mod installed, from rom manager
I made sure I wipe data and cache and also davlik cache
any suggestions?

I think you will hopefully get more joy posting in the Q&A section.
I have read that it can be fixed by fastbooting stock and then re-rooting though. If you can make backups first, you should, because this will wipe everything.

download TWRP for the Nexus 7 (grouper) Here : http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/103
Since your rooted you can use a simple app to flash the Image. Download and install the free app here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1790150&highlight=flash+gui
Open the free app and select the option for Recovery Image. Hit Browse and find the recovery image you downloaded and select it.Once finished hit flash image. It will ask you to confirm this image is a recovery image. Hit yes and it'll flash.
Then reboot to recovery, you can do this by using Terminal Emulator from the market issue this command
Code:
su *hit enter*
adb reboot recovery
If that doesnt work.. remove "adb" I forget if you need it or not :S
This should put you into TWRP Recovery.. go ahead and flash your ROM. Make sure you follow the proper procedure. I recommend this
1.Wipe data/Factory Reset
2. Wipe Cache Partition
3.Wipe Dalvik Cache
4. Format /System
then proceed to flash the ROM and Gapps. and Reboot.

If you're going that route.. you might as well just use fastboot to reflash recovery instead of the app.
Download the same image i linked to earily. While in the bootloader issue this command
Code:
fastboot flash recovery name-of-recovery.img
Make sure you have the Command Prompt in the same directory as the recovery image.
So say its in your downloads folder on your computer open CMD and cd to that directory.
Code:
cd C:\Users\Name\Downloads
Or just open yoru downloads folder and Shift + Right click and select "open command window here" then issue the fastboot command.

Ill write you up a quick tutorial.
First download this zip it contains adb and its .dll's needed to be executed and fastboot.exe for flashing
http://db.tt/EOwGUAPV
Unzip it and put that TWRP image in the same folder.
Then in that folder Shift + Right click and select open command prompt here.
Then type
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
This will boot you into the bootloader. Once in the bootloader do this command
Code:
fastboot flash recovery name-of-recovery.img
Hopefully your smart enough to realize that means type in the name of the recovery not exactly what that says.. for instance openrecovery-twrp... etc etc.
Then once its finished writing the recovery hit the volume up until the "Start" Says Recovery Mode. Then hit the power button. You should now be booting in the TWRP. Then flash your ROM.

First, go to the link provided https://samsungodin.com/ I would download V310.6 personally.. It must be run in a Windows Enviorment IE. Win 7, Win 10 etc. Put you phone into download mode Volume down, home button, the power button all at the same time. Plug your USB cable into a USB port on your computer, and plug in your phone. Unzip Odin, then open and right click Icon, and run as administrator.. Put TWRP. zip in the AP slot. Under options in Odin uncheck reboot and reset, hit the start. When it says pass, unplug your phone, pull battery. But battery back in. Then hold Volume up, home, and the power button, and your phone will start in TWRP recovery.

TWRP is the custom recovery you flash in Odin, to replace stock recovery. You need that to install custom roms and mods.
Go to this link https://dl.twrp.me/klte/ I would download 3.0.2-1-ktle.img.tar. to your desktop. Open up Odin uncheck reset, and reboot. Place phone in download mode Volume down+home+power. Open up Odin choose AP find your file and insert, then hit start. When done pull battery, but battery back in then Volume up+Home+Power and you will boot into recovery.

Flash TWRP first in Odin.. Then what ever Rom you use, will already have root (some dev's might require you to install root as well separate from the ROM you use).. Put the ROM of your choice on your External SD card. Go to recovery wipe cache dalvik/cache, system, data, internal storage. This is why you but the ROM of your choice on a External sd card, because you will wipe the internal storage. Flash ROM and reboot.. Now of course follow the dev's install instructions, as you might have to do something different. But that is usually the normal process to flash a custom ROM.

If you do not use those app, I just uninstall them period, through Titanium Back Up and Root.. Better yet you really should try flashing a custom rom, you won't have all that garbage.. I'm using this one
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/unified-development/rom-crdroid-t2860894
It runs great.. Give me a minute, I going to upload the files you need, so you do not have to go through the trouble of downloading them..

Put all three files on your external sd card.. Do a full wipe, data, system, cache, delvik/cache
1) Install the rom first (do not reboot yet)
2) Install gapps (do not reboot yet)
3) Then install SuperSu- reboot, and set up normal.
Be sure to give proper credit to the crdroid team..
