I'm looking for an app or method to be able to download apps on the Google Play Market that are strictly for tablets. When I try it gives me a message saying the app is not compatible for my device. I know that this has something to do with the Play Market knowing that my phone is not a tablet and they get that information from somewhere in the build prop..I think. Anyways, could somebody please help me.
Does anybody have an idea??
You have to request for a mod that will trick your play store into thinking that your phone is a tablet search around though I think you may be able to ask a few developers that are in the early stages of there ROMs build and maybe taking request.. Also if you come across anything that can help them put this in there ROMs and send them the info I'm sure they will add it.. Just see what you can find on your own first..

I'm going to wait to read reviews on some of these non-google sponsored android marketplaces as I think that's where the malware is going to show up. The user is always the biggest hole in any security plan.
http://www.android-freeware.org/ Do Not attempt
DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANY FREEWARE ON OTHER SITES. Thier is a reason that it is not in the android app store. I downloaded a program from http://www.android-freeware.org/ and it crashed my device and since T-Mobile will not support it yet, its useless at the moment.
Be patient wait for all the apps to load in the market.
Hope this saves someones device
Ok so I tried:
Took sim out and booted up in Safe mode. Was able to actually open the menu and go into settings. I went into applications and the error came up again.
So I had to master reset the device and it is now working back to normal
It's a bit blanket to say to not download any apps from a site just because a beta app crashed your device.. There are many apps there from many different developers, and while some may be quite unstable, some may also be fairly good..
It was my understanding that the Android Market would be similarly unregulated, so I honestly think you'd have the same chance of finding a app that has some issues there as you would at another site.
It would help to know which app you were trying to use that crashed, so we know which app to avoid.

Here is my take on this. Google has never said that the Android Market would be unregulated. They would be idiots to say that and even bigger idiots to actually follow through on that. They've made a huge investment in Android and intend for it to grow. To protect their investment I am positive that there is a team of android employees who's job it will be to regularly download and test new apps, especially from new/untested developers to make sure that 1. it's not malware 2. it doesn't crash the OS or cause any other problems. This is protecting their investment.
What I have heard as regards to the android market is that it will not be heavily regulated like the apple market. For example Apple refuses to let you sell apps that compete with one of their own products, or a product they have in development.
Thus my thought is this. The most amount of regulation that Android apps on google's Android Market will undergo will be minimal. Most legit developers will not have a problem setting up space on the market, and getting their apps out to users. So, given that, what are you likely to find elsewhere? Apps that don't even meet the basic requirements of the Android Market. Apps that are malware, or will crash the OS, or snake oil salesmen trying to make a quick buck, and thus can't/won't be allowed on the Android Market (or will be removed quickly) That equals problems in my book, and there is no way I'm going to download anything that's not at the Android Market, at least not for a very long time. If it's legit, it should be at the Android Market where I can trust it.
thanks for the tip, will trust your experience and leave apps that aren't in the market alone. Thank god you got yours working again!!!

A friend of mine got his first Android phone today and told him to download Google Talk and he was not able to find it. So I searched and had now luck either any one else or am I missing something?
Edit: He found it pre-installed.
Mm yeah I was about to say that Google talk is one of the apps the still comes with the phone, just like YouTube just to come hopefully they start updating it tho

Yeah, we know. Not there either. Miztaken1312 was kind enough to post the .apk files in the Captivate forum. I assume they're the same for most devices. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773272
I've got an x10 (wolfbreak 5.7) and I'm gonna try use it to root the play and pull all its apks does any dev want anything doing? I don't really know much so simple instructions please and does anyone already know a way to root it? I've got a spare +1 too! :-D
try to dump rom using newest flash tool, also copy /system folder
Try root apps if you dont have access to a pc/laptop....

If you have a spare x10.. Bin4ry needs it. If you can send him a pm he should be able to get a postal address to you, so you can send it to him.
If you have a new model same I guess. What do you actually want?
P.s this should be in q&a

it'll be @ the party thing so can't use a laptop Im not very optimistic about my mission but I want the ps apk and a look @ the build. Prop
It's not a spare x10 its my baby sorry was just saying to show the tools @ hand the spare plus one means VIP ticket
Sorry its in the wrong place :-s I just found out x10 section is not all this website...
email yourself all the apks you think you may want. Gmail can install them directly without downloading. I use appmonster a lot....it's very quick to back up any apk on your phone. You may need root access to do it, but once you are in, there's not much you can't do.
I'd definitely email myself androot and z4 root just in case!!! just attach the bare apk to an email & send it to your gmail account.
He won't have been able to do anything like that.. the play won't be rooted, and do you think anyone's going to have left him alone with it to see if he could root it and rip all the APK's out of it.. er.. no.. I don't think so.
I'll go with you...
Just completed the Dexter Mod to allow Google Play on my A7.
All appears working fine, except that Google play will not allow me to purchase any apps. I get an Error ("An error occurred, please try again"), everytime I touch the price button on any app or music.
I've rebooted the device without clearing the issue.
Any ideas?
Oh yeah, this device is not on Googles list of supported devices.
Thanks
Update - Still no joy. Free aps download, but cannot buy
I decided to try to re-do the mod.
I first went to Google and deleted all my accounts.
I did the Dexter mod again from scratch and set up a new Google Acct after the reboot.
Going to Google Play updated the Android Marketplace to Play Store on the tablet.
Using Google Play I still cannot buy an app, but I can download a free one. There are only two apps listed anyway. Missle Command which I cannot buy for $0.99 and 8Track, a music app which is free and downloaded fine.
The first time I did this there were a bizillion apps available, although I could get to none of them.
Any ideas here?
***** Another Update: I discovered I can buy apps using Play Store through my PC for the A7 which upload fine, but still not directly thru the A7
Another Update: Success
Seems like after waiting a while and not using the tablet's Play Store, when finally returning, I have a full list of games and apps.
I also just successfully downloaded a free game (Angry Birds Space) directly from the A7.
This is good news!
I had read elsewhere that on another tablet (Samsung, I believe), ignoring the Play Store app on the tablet for a while would eventually alloe it to work properly.
Seems like that's the case here.
Wow, quiet group here! Lots of views on both of my current threads and not a single comment. I know everyone was just waiting for me to figure it out myself ;<)
Dexter has more than a dozen Mods for at least 3 OS on at least 6 platforms. Probably that is the reason that no one replied ??

I haven't been in this forum in a while just pop in once in a while, might find better help for the a7 at tabketroms.com, but any ways have you tried clearing the cache and data of the google play store in your settings?
Thanks for the recommendation on the other site. Everything works fine, but the device is listed as not supported by a great majority of the apps. It's kind of a worthless tablet, at least it was free.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think I'll just let this one die a quiet death.

Only thing I could recommend is if you have a tablet, use a program to backup the app on there and move the apk file to your s4. Only issue is it probably won't scale to the screen fully. I did this with game informer from my nexus 7 and on the s4 is like half the size of the screen.
