Sorry if this has been answered, but I just picked up my sprint S4 a few hours ago and I'm reading through the threads as fast as I can.
Are there rooted/stock one-click .exe files available for the S4 like the ones we had on the E4GT? I really like how easy they were to use to restore my phone to a stock or rooted stock condition.
Thanks in advance

I think the MDL oneclicks haven't been created yet b/c people are still trying to figure out how to flash the MDL modem. AFAIK, the only way right now to get the MDL modem is through the official MDC to MDL OTA update.

Thanks for the info. I've already updated the modem through OTA to MDL. I guess I will try Chainfire's method to root then, but I was trying to avoid the triangle. I've always liked how the one-clicks never gave a count when flashed. After rooting, do you use mobile ODIN to install a recovery kernel? Which one do you guys prefer?
Sorry about the noob questions, but I am a noob on this phone.
Love it so far. I have to get a case today until I get one from Amazon. The slippery little bugger has been on the floor three times already. Once after I fell asleep.

I used desktop Odin to flash a recovery. I started off with Team SXP's CWM recovery then went on to the OUDHS recovery. I like OUDHS b/c I don't have to press any physical buttons but swipe to do everything (although you can use buttons too, if you'd like).
Today I tried the TWRP v2.5.0.2 recovery and it's awesome~! It's touch screen enabled and it recognizes my 64GB exFat microSD card. I used Goomanager from the app store to install it.

So I am upgrading from my beloved S3 to the Red S4 now, getting it in on Tues. Thank you employee line deals.. So anyways, I saw some stickies about to avoid the OTA otherwise can not flash a diff kernel, correct? That there are no odin files of the new update.
That being said, How will I know when I get my device in, if they already gave it to me updated or if its where I can custom rom it. Would figure its a certain thing in the status menu part for a version. Dont wanna mess this up, so doing my research now.
Also any custom roms that are super worth it? I know on my S3, I use a nice one with the multi window and floating windows. So if there is a super good one to use, IF I can use one, what is it?
Also does the toolbox program we used for the S3 work for S4? (Havent checked on updates in awhile) cause I need to least root this sucker if I wanna restore my titanium backups.
Anyways thanks for any points in the right direction, this is the part I always hated.. working with a new phone then sitting with it till I study up on all the roms and tweaking of it.
When you get your device got to settings>more>about device and if the the last three characters of the baseband is MF3 then you can only use stock kernels with safestrap recovery and if it is MDL or MDB you can have custom recovery, custom roms with motochopper root. There are some pretty good roms out there. Unfortunately i'm on MF3 cause i got the OTA and it updated overnight.
Also when you first get your box with the phone inside. Look on the outside of the box and it will show which firmware is on it. It will have the last three letters of mdb, MDL, or MF3. All I can say is HOPE for MDL which may or may not be possible. But the red colored ones do not seem to go as fast so HOPEFULLY it is MDL.
Next course of action IF it is MDL is DO NOT connect to WiFi, and I would also suggest NOT putting in the Sim card yet. Download Motochopper by Jbliss and or Casual+motochopper by Adam Outler which will root and install tarp recovery. Then read up from there and flash a ROM.
If it comes with MF3 then you will need to flash SafeStrap to be able to out "some Roms" onto your phone and have root. But safestrap is more limited than what you are used to/what I posted in the paragraph above.
I am GUESSING you are buying it from ATT? Then chances may be slim of anything other than mf3. But I did get a MDL from Walmart (they had black and white if I remember correctly, not sure about red). I got a black one with MDL about a month ago and they had two others in stock. So places like that MAY be a better bet for you.
Now this is MY opinion and take it for what it is worth. I will NEVER be buying another ATT phone due to how hard they are locking the boitloaders down. NEVER... So my next suggestion is get a T-Mobile S4 and you can use it on ATT and it does not have locked bootloaders at this time and hopefully never.
Read all the sticky threads about MF3 and prepare yourself in case you want to keep it. Good luck to you

You will have to try out different roms and see for yourself what they have to offer.if it turns out to be MF3 take the most important advice "!!READ!!"

Yes, getting from ATT dealer accounts, while I know I can use T-Mobiles stuff, I wouldnt have the "LTE" ability, which is what is happening now with my TMO S3, I have 4G, yes, but not LTE. So giving that phone to my friend for her upgrade, so she can get LTE with TMO while upgrading myself. Now if I am MDL, then woot, I take it its almost business as usual with the way I worked my roms and so of the past?
Then lets say I am MF3, now that in itself. may not be "as bad" since honestly, the S3's rom was pretty solid out of the box, just root it and go. Could I assume if I dont wanna put a diff rom on MF3, I could least root the stock rom easy enough and move on? (Plus could use titanium backup to remove the bloat) Seems abit crazy on MF3 and safe strap, sounds like its using the internal storage space to run the rom off of.
Now in regards to if I am MDL, I assume you mean download motochopper for the pc, then hook up and let it run. Now after that point, is my phone safe from OTA? Do I need to install a new rom right then and there or can I use stock rom and know that I am safe from it updating to MF3. Just making sure I got my notes right for tm morning when it comes in by fedex heh.

Yes it would be almost exactly business as usual. Of course READ any Roms HOW TO INSTALL section. About the only difference from the S3 flashing is if you are flashing kernels/Roms make sure the are loki'd or use Loki doki during flashing. Again read up on this.

Yes you can flash some Roms (4.2.2 based Roms) with Safestrap. Read all about safestrap as I do not have it and don't know many if the answers since I cannot test. But the one thing is be VERY CAREFUL removing bloat with tibu, once it is gone you will NOT be able to get it back. Read many horror stories if debloating gone wrong and phone not working.

Yes download either Motochopper or I like "Casual+Motochopper" as it gives you a recovery as well. Either cwm or twrp.
No at that point it is NOT safe from OTA updates, you will need to FREEZE certain apps with tibu.
Check out the Roms section. I haven't used it but I believe there is a "neutered mf3 stock firmware" that has the ota updating parts removed already. If you do NOT freeze the apps ATT set up mf3 to Auto Download and INSTALL mf3. Most users got it while they were sleeping, even if they were only stock and rooted. But IF you have a custom recovery and a ROM on it you will not get the auto update and install.

MDB was what came with the phone and MDL was updated within a few weeks if I remember correctly. I believe I still have the mdb bootloaders on my phone and my wife's came with MDL and has those bootloaders. I have seen NO DIFFERENCE as far as flashing or things working differently in my case.

Yes I believe you cannot flash kernels with safestrap. And only 4.2.2 based Roms will work and possibly on tw Roms, but there might be one cm variant that would work. Just check out the safestrap thread for more info on all if this. I think they even have a list if tested working Roms there.
No one knows FOR SURE but I believe the new 4.3 update blows a second qfuse, this will make it so you cannot downgrade to anything lower than MJ6.
MF3 blows the first qfuse which is why you cannot downgrade to MDL bases.

Of course I am rooted... you think after being a pioneer with a beloved Htc G1, that I would EVER be on a device without root. =p (Man.. the reinstalling of a 100 apps manually alone without titanium backup along with its prefs, config and data would take a week to get right) I used that exFat method.
But yea, even tho I am rooted, I wouldnt "mind" a diff rom.. or least debloat this sucker. Half tempted to see which ATT apps I could get rid of, issue is... no odin to restore to if something messes up. I am sure someone will do a mf3 recovery sometime eh?
Oh... btw, how would I disable any auto OTA that could come in the future?
So i rooted and used safestrap to install my 4.2.2 rom a little while back when that was all that was available. Now i cant find out how people are moving away from this old 4.2.2 junk and moving to 4.3 or 4.4
I know safestrap i have only works with certain TouchWiz roms (found that out when i triend to use CM a while back) and that is a headache only having really the plain google rom available to use.
any help would be appreciated, its been annoying

Read the second post of this sticky thread, it states if you try to install a custom recovery on MF3 you will hose your device.
Lucky we have the MF3 odin files now so we can recover from soft bricks (that post was created before the MF3 files were leaked).
Glad to hear you got it sorted out though.

Ok....I know that no one may be able to help...but here goes....I used odin to root my phone while on 4.3...I tried to flash a rom with 4.4, didn't work, so I flashed liquid smooth which was for 4.2.2 but said it could work on 4.3....somehow I lost root but still had liquid smooth, it was kinda working but the internet was very slow...so I tried to re-root, odin said passed but I still wasn't rooted, so I erased liquid smooth, thinking it would go back to stock, but I forgot to make a backup. couldn't get anything to work amd then I accidentally tried to root using a file through odin that was for my gs4 with Verizon...I know stupid right...now I can only get in to recovery and download mode, and if I just power it on, it only goes to the Samsung screen...I suppose it has nothing on it to boot to...I wish I could just wipe everything on it completely and start over with just basic stock...and i'll leave the rooting to the pros.....
begging for help, bc i'm just paying sprint for nothing

You can root MK2 the same way you root any other version via CF Autoroot.
And I just noticed in your OP you flashed a Verizon ROM by accident. For future reference, you can use ROMs for other GS4 variants. You just have to flash a Sprint kernel before you boot.

Background.....not new to flashing and used to be a flashaholic but I am new to flashing Samsung.I never saw the need to root or rom my S4 because well, it's a good performer for me, unlike my previos HTCs which I flashed to hell and back.
I am on stock MK2....no custom recovery and never rooted. Took the new KitKat NAE update this morning and it failed in recovery and rebooted. Downloaded the NAE.zip from here after that to manually flash in recovery myself. Update failed again but was able to see why this time....failed signature verification... Phone did reboot successfully again and functioning well, but if this isn't fixed I'm gonna be stuck on Jellybean....
I believe a previous update may have been corrupted....may have been from MK2 or even MJA. Since one of those 2 updates "Help" (system app InteractiveTutorial.apk) force closes upon start-up every time and when opened. Even tried a factory reset with same results. I believe this to be the culprit.
My question is where do I go from here to be able to install stock KitKat? Can I reflash a full stock MK2 in Odin to cure the obvious corruption? If so, which version of Odin would you suggest? Any special instruction?
Any help is very much appreciated.
I really need to know if you can flash back to mk2 after taking the 4.4.2 update too because the update didn't flash the new modem on my phone and wifi isn't working so I wanna retry it lol.

I have a verizon note 3 I ordered from insurance when my last note 3 finally bit the dust. My previous phone was running jasmine and stock using safestrap. I strove to do the samewith this phone. Instead, when attempting to use towelroot, it said my phone was no longer supported. I tried to find a viable nc2 and couldn't for the last week. Most links on this website are dead because note 3 is hardly supported anymore. I finally found one, one developed by hrsbad or one someone claimed was, the custom note 3 nc2. When I flashed it using odin, i get an error that pops up with Samsung splash screen, "kernel is not seaandroid enforcing" It then takes me to a yellow exlaimation point with "system software not authorized by verizon wireless has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest verizon wireless store for help. Is there anything i can do? Im sure there's a wiz out there who knows an easier solution.
I would appreciate your help very greatly, and if you could explain to me why i couldnt; use safestrap and even suggest how i could root an alternate way that would be super amazing. Thanks for any help you might be able to lend.
I have attemtped to flash all the nc2 and nc4 finally succeeding with one that had previously failed. The kernel error no longer appears and my phone is behaving normally. I have 4.4.4 and would like to root it, are there any options anyone knows of? Towelroot does not support my version, Im open to any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

I have put nc4 back on. This is how the phone was shipped. But I was unable to root with towelroot, I am still without root. And that is the crux ofmy questions now, is where can I get nc2 so I can use towelroot, or is there a better method than that?
what I have tried
nc2kernel.tar.md5
VZW-N900VVRUCNC4-20140512165349
n900v_kk_firmware.tar.md5
It has been very difficult finding these files online, sammobile is where I got one of them, the other two were from a hsrbad post, a comment from "Dutchboy" who still hosted these files lead me to them.
it's hard to say if those work, what I'm trying to determine is the original firmware your phone was running before all of this. I'm not super good at this just fyi.. haha. i usually look for the modem and firmware for the "original" firmware from before rooting.

Sorry for the late response. School and work are kicking my butt. The original is hard to say, I attempted like five different roms after noticing that mine could not be towelrooted. all of these romsfailed, and one finally raised an exception with the security that temporarily soft bricked my phone, I found a nc4 on sammbile that was able to remedy that, but I'd like most of all to get this rooted and safestrapped again so i can dualboot as i had previously. I'm also pretty novice but i enjoy the attempting to do this stuff, even when it ends in me bricking my phone for the day :good:
so have you been able to get your phone running?

Towelroot was supposed to work on NC4.
You can not flash any ROM lower than NC4 due to bootloader. There is also supposedly a rooted NC4 here that you can flash...but towelroot should work.

Thank you both for your replies.
Towelroot had previously worked , this is an insurance replacement as mine bit the dust. I went to towelroot and to my great sadness does not work. I am using:
4.4.4
sm-n900v
n900vvrudnj6
kernel 3.4.0
Truly I'm novice so Im not positive if any of this can help or not, but do you know of a way I can towelroot?
