[Q] From Quarx CM10 To CM 7.2 Safely? - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have been using a Quarx version of CM10 for a while. I'm having problems with the battery drain, so I want to downgrade to cm 7.2.
Now I'm a bit confusing about how I can do it safely. So I want to ask you! Thanks for your attention.
I'm using Kernel: [email protected]#1
CyanogenMod version: 10-20120924-NIGHTLY-mb525
I'm not sure If I must change the kernel because i'm using a gb kernel.
Thanks again!

just format as ext3 and flash as always..wipe dalvik/cache..

I'll try that. I only wanted to be sure that I'm using the correct kernel.
Thanks a lot

I can't find the option to change to EXT3 in Tools. Why arent it there?
There's only option to Share SD Card, drivers, system, data...

Good, I'll see and tell if that works for me!

The tool to format in ext3 is located into the bootmenu: format there and then switch to recovery without rebooting, wipe dalvik and flash your rom

[Q] confused about kernal

I was wondering about the overclocking kernal for cm7. just how do i put it in. Do I have to do that when I first install or can I add it later. also does it really help. I mean is the difference really noticeable or not at all. I am still deciding if I should do it or not.
Kernels are flashed through ClockworkMod and can be flash anytime after you flash a rom. If you use the search bar you can easily find what particular kernel works for your setup.
OK, I think I found the right one but I was also wondering if I could install it when I first installed cm7. When I installed it I saw that it was searching for the kernel and for gapps but didn't find the n and skipped it. Could I install it then

CM7 has the ability to be overclocked as it sets.
settings > CM settings > performance > CPU settings.
just be extremely careful when Overclocking devices. it can takes it's toll in the long run.
and the g/apps are not kernel dependent they are ROM dependent.
OK but what do you mean by gapps are not kernal dependant

On *UNIX based devices. They have a section of the firmware called the "kernel". The kernel accepts the coding, binary and scripts from the RAM/ROM and tells the hardware how to act, what to do, and when to do it.
The g/apps have nothing to do with the kernel.
The g/apps are Google's property and cannot be included in AOSP based ROMs. Those ROMs are developed from Google's code. And developers do not have the ability to add those at will. So we must flash them after/prior (depending on he ROM) to get the Google Apps.
YES! DO IT!
for me its like day and night, it so much smoother with dals OC kernel. and yes you can flash the OC kernel any time. you can flash cm7 rc1 then OC kernel in the same boot. or you can first install cm7 to check it out for a while and then later flash the new kernel. if you planning to flash dal's 6/18 kernel, make sure to get his app NC Tweaks.
NC Tweaks here:

Dal's Kernel here:

thanks. What I want to know is how to flash it. do I do it the same way as gapps( have wifi and reboot in recovery mode) or is there a different way?

You place the over clock zip file in the root of your sd card and flash it through cwm like you would a rom or gapps. So for example you would flash cm7 then gapps then the overclock kernel.
Not to Jack this thread, but I want to update from cm7 old kernel to New nightly build. Does the new kernel flash with the nightly?

When you move from stable cm7 to cm7 nightly the new kernel is included. However the included kernel is overclockable only to 975mhz. If you want a higher clock speed you'll have to use dals 6182011 kernel, up to 1200mhz.

ClockWork Manager
basically boot into recovery then flash.
OK. but this may be a stupid question but will the cm7 kernal work with the stable version7.0.3 because that is what I have.

I'm not following you cannot use just a Cyanogen(mod) kernel. They are built into their ROMs.

The latest nightly should be considered stable. It is in release candidate stable for the next stable build. The next stable build should be released in the next couple of days.

There is a Clockwork ROM Manager and a ClockworkMod Recovery image.
Together they are known as "CWM" Since one is a recovery and the other is a ROM manager.

[Q] Dualboot CM9 + CM7 ?

Can I use CM9 as my main ROM and CM7 as virtual? If yes, then how can I create File Systems for that?
Sorry, I'm new to Multibooting

Just follow my guide, it works and has 20 000+ views:

P.S. instead of installing CM9 as the virtual rom, install CM7 on the "latest recovery". Same steps but the other way around.

Oh ! Thanks a lot ..... glad I could help ....

to flash any rom..

Hi to all,
I would like to know if is possibile, on my defy, to flash any rom simply putting rom file into SD memory and flash it with CWM...
I'm looking for a system to backup/restore my actual MIUI Rom.
Could you suggest me any stable, affordabile, daily rom?
Thanks
Hi, why is this in development thread??
Anyway yes you can install rom from sd card and you can backup and restore your miui rom with CWM.
I would suggest some cm7. 2 nightly, they are reliable for everyday use... or Ms2Ginger4 when it's out of beta :-D

[FIX] "type password to decrypt storage" message on JB roms

This happens when you flash any Kernel that support JB or ROM from EXTERNAL SD CARD, so, if you're getting this message at boot, you'll need to re-flash it from INTERNAL SD.
I hope if this help.
I will apreciate any thanks. :good:
This is silly. I've tried flashing dream 2.6.6 from internal and from external. Both brings to decrypt screen when finishes boot.
The solution is to flash 2.6.5 back. Perhaps you flashed 2.6.5 so it was fixed, not 2.6.6

Useful! Went back to my nandroid after that error. Will reflash everything today. Its kind of funny that I can record video on a preview jb build but not on a full stable rr. 2.6.1. Still working on that.

this is just kernel related (v2.6.6)doesn.t matter you flash from external or internal.i tryed 2.6.5 , 2.6.6 , 2.6.7 , v2.6.7 has battery huge drain, v2.6.5 seems stable.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527745
and it is working but i want to try and newer roms.
So today i have try the AuroraSP.
I have recovery 5.0.2.8 (and i have try with 5.0.2.7)
I have make full wipe (data, cache, dalvik)
I have install AuroraSP V4R

hi
thanks for this, i have use ezet's CM 7.2 and it is good.
I have see that you have use AuroraSP (in your signature).
How about speed and battery about ezetCM7 and AuroraSP? it is similar or not?
Also you have any idea what is wrong in my previous post?
thanks a lot
Hello, first of all you should install official 2.3 gingerbread from Huawei and root it. After that you should be able to install aurora without problem.
There is a thread on the developer section on how to install and root official Rom.

Speed is better on Aurora that's for sure and about battery i don't remember well i don't have CM7 and haven't tried anymore more than 1 year but drains a little more if you use 2G and turn off Wifi and then you can save battery.
If must have GB on your phone after that you should install any other custom roms since from CM7 to CM 10 and of course Aurora too. Remember when update from different kernel please format system, data and cache with together all 3 wipes.
