Buying S4 in San Francisco area - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello All,
I'm going to a business trip next month to Mountain View (Santa Clara, San Francisco).
I live in Europe and want to buy Samsung Galaxy S4 mobile phone to replace my old S2.
Which options do I have as non US resident?
1. Can I buy a phone from cellular provider like T-Mobile or AT&T with month by month contract and pay for 1 month only?
I guess in this case the phone will be locked to provider, but as far as I see its not a problem to unlock it.
Will US version work fine in Europe?
2. Where do I buy an unlocked S4 phone with no contract in reasonable price in SF area?
Thanks for help,
David.

[Q] Prepaid carrier for one week in New York

I am looking for the best prepaid carrier solution in New York for one week.
I have an unlocked Motorola Atrix and will be there in one week for holiday (I am from Germany).
I only want to use it for staying in contact with friends. Included data volume would be optional, lowest price has first priority.
What would you recommend?
Thanks in advance!
No help for a traveler here?
Hey, I'm wondering the same thing. I just need data and will be in California for the month.
+1. I need data for a week in NYC.
T-Mobile has something called T-Mobile® webConnect™ SIM ONLY KIT but someone said in the review that you have to use a device sold by T-Mobile USA
T-Mobile or AT&T
Cricket is also not that bad..

[Q] Modern Version Help / Roaming Question

Hey Guys,
I am from the auK but travelling in the USA for a couple months and then living in Canada for a year from July, I want to pick up a sim free S4 to use that will work in the USA, Canada and the UK... From what I understand the Walmart versions are the AT&T which is the same as the Canadian ones so should work, but will this model accept sims from UK carriers also?
In the USA ill be using a Walmart family t mobile sim (not worried about data speeds here as its just for emergencies/emails)
in Canada ill probably go with The cheapest sim only rolling contract and speed will be important
in the UK ill probably go with Vodafone or EE
So, if I go get a sim free version in Walmart will I have any issues and do those S4s have any physical/software branding on them?
Cheers
No you should not have sim issues with them.
Yes, walmart phones may have Software (bloatware) on them. You can flash a generic rom to remove the software issues
As to physical branding it depends on where walmart gets its supply from.
That's good news so the LTE version and bands will be fine for Canada... Phew
Now do I buy or not!
AT&T verson Canada capiable with LTE
Tmobile version not compatible with Rogers but will work on wind and some other providers.
Cool so long as its the AT&T version it's good for Canada and any provider?

[Q] Tmobile or Rogers or Stock Android s4 that will work on LTE in the US & Canada

[Q] Tmobile or Rogers or Stock Android s4 that will work on LTE in the US & Canada
I'm in the market for a massive cell phone upgrade. I'm currently on a BB 9000 that still works as well as the day it was made.
I spend considerable time in Canada (Rogers Network) however I am from NY (T-Mobile). I am looking to get a an s4 that will run on LTE in both countries. I will just swap sim cards when needed.
I will be buying the phone outright. Should I get the Google Edition GT-I9505G which after taxes is just over $700 or should I get the discounted locked T-mobile S4 (SGH-M919) for just over $600.
Rogers also sells the (SGH-I337M) variant with an unlocked boot loader for 700.
Ultimately,I don't mind unlocking and rooting the device I get .
What would you guys recommend ? What would you do ?
Thanks in advance,
John
Hey John,
Considering you don't mind unlocking or rooting, I suggest you get the Google Edition. It costs less, it'll save you the trouble of getting it unlocked, and you won't have to deal with the cellphone companies. As a canadian, I've heard enough horror stories with Rogers, to advise you to avoid any hassle with them. Then again, it's very YMMV, some have great customer service with Rogers and will never leave them.
As for me, considering where I'm from, I don't have the option to purchase it through the Google Store, unless I have an amerifriend or through family in the US. So I don't have the choice you have. Even if I did, I would still get it through a carrier, simply because I really love what Samsung did with the S4 and am not really into rooting (although considering it more and more lately). I don't really use the "gimmicky" features (air gesture, smart scroll, etc.) but what they've done with the camera is great and I see myself using the different modes more than I thought.

Which Note 3 should I buy ?

My family has account with Verizon, and I live 1/2 year overseas in Asia where it has only 3G ( atm, no 4G/ LTE yet) . Also, I plan to use prepaid number sometimes like from Tmobile, H20wireless, Ptel or whatever for 2nd number/backup whenever I am in the States.
So, which version of Note 3 should I buy ? the international N9005 or the Verizon version ( no problem to have another line with them to have a primary number for myself ) ? or even Tmobile/ATT version ? Of course, I want to have fastest internet speed in US. TIA

If you want to use a prepaid simcard your basically forcing yourself into a non verizon N3. If you use verizon N3 you can simswap overseas but not domestically. If you want total freedom, N9005 but then you cannot use verizon.

I think u should buy a International N9005
I just got a Verizon note 3 and was told that it was not unlocked for use in the United states. I complained to Verizon that I paid the whole Cosy of the phone up front and that didn't want a contract. They told me that it is not possible to unlock the phone from Verizon wireless. Come to find out that a att sim, t-mobile works just fine. I'm so confused as to why my phone is unlocked here in the states and afar?
Can anyone help me to understand this issue.?

Buying a S7 Edge with BAD/ financed IMEI outside of US

Hello there!
Since I'm currently living in Germany and electronics here are sold with a 19% markup called sales tax, I was wondering if I could use US phones with bad IMEI/ ESN in Germany.
I found a unlocked Galaxy S7 Edge for $120 but it has a bad IMEI (T-mobile USA unit). Can I use this phone with Deutsche Telekom (T-mobile Germany)?
I couldn't find the info I was looking for so any advice is helpful.
And yes I know these phones have been beaten to death and may have even been stolen but I can live with that since a similar device here will cost around $400.
Best regards!

You may.. if it's Network unlocked for any sim to be used. Verizon are unlocked by default. Sprint remote unlocks are less than 10usd on ebay. ATT can be unlocked too... tmobile ones are costly to unlock.
