[Q] Modern Version Help / Roaming Question - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys,
I am from the auK but travelling in the USA for a couple months and then living in Canada for a year from July, I want to pick up a sim free S4 to use that will work in the USA, Canada and the UK... From what I understand the Walmart versions are the AT&T which is the same as the Canadian ones so should work, but will this model accept sims from UK carriers also?
In the USA ill be using a Walmart family t mobile sim (not worried about data speeds here as its just for emergencies/emails)
in Canada ill probably go with The cheapest sim only rolling contract and speed will be important
in the UK ill probably go with Vodafone or EE
So, if I go get a sim free version in Walmart will I have any issues and do those S4s have any physical/software branding on them?
Cheers

No you should not have sim issues with them.
Yes, walmart phones may have Software (bloatware) on them. You can flash a generic rom to remove the software issues
As to physical branding it depends on where walmart gets its supply from.

That's good news so the LTE version and bands will be fine for Canada... Phew
Now do I buy or not!

AT&T verson Canada capiable with LTE
Tmobile version not compatible with Rogers but will work on wind and some other providers.

Cool so long as its the AT&T version it's good for Canada and any provider?

[Q/SOLVED/CLOSED] Which UK networks will a sim-free phone be able to use??

Currently on orange with a Hero- if I buy a sim-free unlocked Desire Z, will that work with my sim card? I'm planning to switch to 3 when my contract is up as well.
I hear a lot about phones being restricted to EDGE when used on an incompatible network, and hoped someone could fill me in.
I'd be interested to know too, ready for when my new Desire-Z arrives. Fingers crossed for next week, but not holding my breath just yet.
I'm on T-Mobile UK, so any specific settings that I'll need to make to get myself up and running as quickly as possible would be appreciated.
Andre
I've never heard of this being an issue here in the UK about certain carriers only getting Edge on their phones. This is more the case over in the states where the different carrier use different frequencies.
The carriers here all use the same so an unlocked and unbranded phone can be used on any carrier. If anything you find maybe the speeds are a bit slow then just go on your carriers website and you can find the settings to use.
just buy it from the car one of the high street phone retailers and you will get it unlocked as all the phones there they sell are unlocked I believe
Yes. An Unlocked DesireZ will work with all valid UK Operator SIMs

[Q] Venue Pro In Canada, Ideas?

Ok so now that Dell has the DVP for AT&T, will anyone here be working to change their T-Mobile device to work on AT&T? From what I understand it's just a firmware difference that allows the radio to work on the other frequencies. Consequently the same frequencies of UMTS that Bell and Telus run in Canada. It's great that Dell has decided to move to AT&T as well but unfortunately we can't get the unlocked versions shipped up here directly from Dell.
If someone wants to make some coin, buy a bunch of unlocked AT&T compatible DVP's and sell them to Canadians to work on Bell and Telus. Unfortunately I'm one of those suckers that didn't realize that UMTS 3G ran on 5 different frequencies and bought a T-Mobile one before the AT&T version was available.
I'm basically looking to try and get this one I already have to work, but if it's not possible, I'm willing to trade and/or buy an AT&T one.
Anyone have ideas? Do you think that the May 18th (tentative) firmware release will be able to be hacked to unlock all the frequencies on the radio? I hate to make such a long post but basically I'm grasping at life-lines here. My iPhone is a POS and I'm desperate for an awesome, non-android phone.
You my friend and I are in the same boat. I lucked out and Mobilicity shows up just before I ordered the phone. I like you have the t-mobile phone.
So far however the phone only works on rogers (and subsidiaries) and mobilicy. But as mobilicity is brand new i'm having a hard time staying connected and after paying almost 600 for the phone i'm kinda getting annoyed at the fact it barely stays connected to the 3G, though I have no issues with wifi.
Otherwise the phone is fantastic (with the no "explorer" exception) and with unlimited data through mobilicity, when it's good it's really good.
Lucky for you. Unfortunately I live in Alberta and the only carriers we have here are Bell, Telus, and Rogers. And the only coverage worth mentioning is worth Bell and Telus. So I'm a little SOL. If someone from the states is willing to trade an unlock AT&T version for a brand new (used for a couple hours) T-Mobile version, I'll pay shipping. I don't care. I just want a working phone.

N900t vs n900w8 difference

Hey guys,
so I live in Canada and the note 3 model available here is the n900w8 which is approximately 700 plus tax. But I can get the N900t unlocked for $650 tax included.
I tried to Google if both phones work on the same frequencies and as far as I can tell, both phones have the exact same specs.
My question is will the N900t work on all the Canadian networks like the n900w8 or will there be compatibility issues? which model should I get?

That I can tell there is a difference in the LTE bands between the 2 models so if you want to run rogers you need the n900w8. If using wind looks like the t mobile will work but wind does not have lte. If you want to be able to hop back and forth between different Canadian carriers better off with the n900w8 it would seem, I am looking at exactly the same situation by the way.

Thanks for the reply, I already went ahead and bought the T-Mobile one, I doubt I'll be switching to Rogers or bell as their prices are ridiculous, I was struck in a contract with those guys for years and will never go back.

Doing some more research the n9008w may require different radios if you changing from wind to rogers etc and also looks like the 900t from t mobile can be made to work with either wind, rogers, etc but again will need to root, add different radios etc. Currently I use Fido with a note 1 ATT and Rodgers is throttling the network as last year I could get 40mb on LTE now down to 10MB, it seems Wind will give 20mb on 3g and Rodgers or Fido wont gaurentee anything better so it doesnt matter if its on 3g or LTE its still going to likely be 20mb speed anyway. Most sites cannot give you faster downloads anyway so paying more is pointless, it only benefits the service provider.
Telus LTE

Yea LTE is the only difference.
I have the N900W8 from Telus and it works with Wind and mobilicity
but only on 4G
Of course when i insert a rogers telus bell or other carrier sim i can still retain my LTE cuz that is what my model is.
I have an old legacy with TELUS but I still pay 72 after tax. I still keep unlimited this and that and 6GB data.
This new 2 YEAR plan thing is a load of bs.

Which Note 3 should I buy ?

My family has account with Verizon, and I live 1/2 year overseas in Asia where it has only 3G ( atm, no 4G/ LTE yet) . Also, I plan to use prepaid number sometimes like from Tmobile, H20wireless, Ptel or whatever for 2nd number/backup whenever I am in the States.
So, which version of Note 3 should I buy ? the international N9005 or the Verizon version ( no problem to have another line with them to have a primary number for myself ) ? or even Tmobile/ATT version ? Of course, I want to have fastest internet speed in US. TIA

If you want to use a prepaid simcard your basically forcing yourself into a non verizon N3. If you use verizon N3 you can simswap overseas but not domestically. If you want total freedom, N9005 but then you cannot use verizon.

I just got a Verizon note 3 and was told that it was not unlocked for use in the United states. I complained to Verizon that I paid the whole Cosy of the phone up front and that didn't want a contract. They told me that it is not possible to unlock the phone from Verizon wireless. Come to find out that a att sim, t-mobile works just fine. I'm so confused as to why my phone is unlocked here in the states and afar?
Can anyone help me to understand this issue.?

[Q] Buy from the US ???

I live in the UK and am on a Vodafone contact, I am planning to buy the S5 when it is released here. However I am off to New York in a few weeks and looking at the US unlocked pricing I can save myself over £100.
Is the US and UK phone exactly the same as I know previous models were different and will it work with my sim ?

Think the LTE bands may be different. Best to wait til they're released to check specs of both.

Any US model won't work on LTE in the UK or EU. Only 3G will be working.
However, you can easily buy international version of S5 in the US cheaper than in the UK and it will work on LTE in the UK.
International version are SM-G900F or H.
