[Q] Auto brightness too dim even at +5 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi to all,
i own an i9505 with (rooted) XXUAMDM firmware and in my opinion auto brightness is too dim even at +5; is there a tweak (for rooted) to increase brightness values without disable auto brightness feature?
(Of course Power saving mode is disabled and i have tried with "Auto adjust screen tone" on and off with no results)
Are auto brightness default values enough bright for you?

It's the same for me with ME2

Nobody has a solution? I also tested PlayStore's autobrightness apps but they are not faithfuls to light changes like stock one. It would be perfect to add "X" units to every value on stock autobrightness... but unfortunately i'm not able to do that... please devs help me/us

fix
I found a solution,
Go into Settings > My device> Display > Screen Mode>
Uncheck Adapt Display then choose Dynamic.
This should fix the issue.

I'm already on "Dynamic Mode" but it has no effect on brightness, i noticed only more vivid colors

It works on my I9505..

Auto Screen Brightness is too dark

Hi all,
I found that the default auto brightness setting always render the screen darker than my favourite. For certain I want to keep the adaptive approach (i.e. the screen brightness will change according to my physical enviornment), however I would like to fine tune it such that it will always return a +1 / +2 brightness on top of the default return. Do anyone know any apps / tricks can I do so?
p.s. I know I can place an widget to manual adjust the brightness, but I am now looking for a way to fine tune the automated value.
Thanks all!

Did you ever solve this. Posted numerous times about a similar issue but never really found a proper solution.
You can use Tasker. Set up profiles for depending how much the light sensor sees, you can have the brightness exactly how you want. Note: You need to disable auto brightness for this to work.

[Q] What's your Screen/Brightness Setting?

just wondering what you guys recommend for
(1) Screen Mode
Adaptive Mode (I turned this off... doesn't seem to make a diff?)
Dynamic
Standard (currently set on this)
Professional Photo
Movie
wanted to try Pro Photo and Movie.. but both make the screen yellow.. and reds washed out
(2) Auto Adjust Screen Tone
just wondering if you guys keep this on or off?
(3) Auto Brightness?
do you guys use this or manual adjustments?
(4) Power Savings - Use low power level for screen
1. Dynamic : because i love bright & vivid colors
2. Turned off : to preserve the bright & vividness of colors
3. Turned off : whenever i need i just slide the brighness slider.
4. Turned on : for most activity. Turned off while gaming
Standard, off, off, off. Brightness slider is set to about 10%.

No, I refer to pro photo mode in screen mode. Please note that I have extensively used Andreilux Perseus kernel and I love the color correction as explained in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38497753&postcount=3
What I know from what I read from different posts and my own experience, the natural screen mode in Cyanogen mod and pro photo in new Samsung devices is very close to Perseus kernel improvements for correct color reproduction. I love "washed" colors
One more thing, the "reading mode" is very good too, since when you add up to 20 applications in this mode in the settings, it automatically reduces contrast when you run one of these apps. I use it especially for Dolphin browser to read papers etc. It turns back to normal when you close the app.
Last but not least; general brightness level of Note 3, especially under direct sun light, is much better than Note 2, but especially under low light I have to manually reduce the brightness not to disturb my eyes.
Regards.
I'm using the pro photo setting. For brightness settings I'm using the app Lux to fine tune autobrightness which has separate day and night profiles. The app can darken your screen below the 0% setting by applying a filter on the screen. Very useful for totally dark situations.

I've been trying out Reading Mode... but it is making the screen really dim though.
Do you have power-savings mode ON?
No, I only use the power saving mod when I have around 15% battery left and I do not experience any dimnes in normal use.

been using the Professional Photo mode. I must say I'm liking the colors much better
anyone tried out LUX?
hmm.. seems like Professional Photo mode.. causes a level of yellowing?
Adaptive at 50% Auto Brightness.
Unbelievable colours at an unbelievable power consumption rate, much better than my N2.

[Q] How to set base brightness level?

The BestBuy N3 demo unit allowed me to set a "base" level brightness from which the auto mode started. On the drop down notification the brightness control would show -1, -2 or +1, +2, etc.
However, my AT&T N3 does not allow this...is my memory making things up? Carrier specific? Settings?
thanks.
Go to settings, device tab, select notification panel and tick brightness adjustment

Thanks, I have the brightness scroll in the notification...but what is missing is the +1, +2 that shows on the screen when scrolling the brightness which sets the base brightness level.
Well mine is there, anyway stock brightness auto control is crap. I am using velis auto brightness app which is way much smoother.

It should be in the settings.
Device> Display> Brightness
Just set it to auto and Move the slider.
You have to tick the "Auto" box in your notifications.
Nope don't have that + sign, numbers or vertical bar in the middle. I actually thought if I did it was "the key" to making autobrightness work better.
Think I'll try velis auto brightness app as suggested.
I am on AT&T version Model number "SAMSUNG-SM-N900A". I checked the one at the best buy store which does have the #'s and it is a different model number..."SM-N9005". go figure. weird but I suppose it doesn't really matter.

Go into settings>My device> and find "Power saving mode" and disable it if its enabled.
Doing this might solve your auto brightness issue.
Good luck!
Nah I've gotten used to it by now.
I only get the dimming thing when I switch to and from Google apps like Chrome.

I had the same problem but you can sort it out if you're rooted and using STweaks:
Set 'Brightness Reduction' to 0 under 'screen' settings
Dimming Problem
Hi,
I would appreciate if you guys could give my app a try. Even if you found a workaround...
It's an easy to use application that allow you to manage your screen and can allow you to stop it from dimming.
It can be configured for specific apps also. Please give me your feedback!

[Guide] fixing washed out black in direct sunlight.

Did anyone notice the black on the screen tend to be greyish and less contrast in direct sunlight?
This how to fix it:
1- Go to about phone and tap build number 7 times to access developer options.
2- in developer options find increase readability in sunlight and turn it off.
3- turn off developer options.
4- clear data for settings app to remove developer option from the settings.
You can skip 3 and 4 if you need to tweak other settings in developer options.
I Know this option is meant to improve readability in sunlight but i prefer more contrast in my screen and still the screen brightness is more than enough.
You might want to warn people that they will also lose other settings when clearing the data from the settings app.

No need to even list #3 and #4.
Having Developer Options on doesn't hurt you in any way and can only help -- like tweaking Windows animation scale, Transition animation scale, Animator duration scale (I set them all to 0.5X).
All you need to do it turn off that one misguided option you mention which seems to do the opposite of its intended purpose.
