I just picked up the Samsung Vibrant and so far I love it. I came from the myTouch Slide. Now, I have all my contacts entered into GMail so every time I switch phones I don't need to manually type everything in. With the MY3GS, it only showed the group My Contacts, but in the Vibrant, it shows all the contacts which I don't want it to. Is there a way to only show the group My Contacts? I also noticed that the FaceBook link is kind of annoying as well (need to enter first and last name for it to sync, no first names only)
In contacts, hit menu, then display option. Check the providers you want to see ( I assume your google account only) and uncheck the rest.

That's what I did, but it shows all my contacts in GMail as oppose to the My Contacts in GMail from the MT3GS
This is one of the big aggravations with Samsung's Touchwiz interface. The contacts app does not allow the listing of specific groups within Google contacts. Nothing can be done at this time.
I guess I'll live with it, I rooted the phone and flashed it to Eugene's firmware.
I'm running Gmail 2.3, it came with the Evo I bought this week.
Anyone else seeing the problem of Gmail getting stuck on ONE email?
For instance, I can see a list of emails, but whichever email I try to select, it will always show only one particular email. And pressing the left right navigation arrows at the bottom of the email still shows the same email.
Gmail been flakey on all phones this week. Thought google fixed that.
8pen from my supersonic on the xda app.
I don't get this issue, but many times after clearing my inbox in the app it still looks like I have new emails when I don't. The number of new emails doesn't go back to zero till I login via gmail.com or wait for a new email to come in.
Gmail has always been like this for me though.
Last year I learned how to include a push feature Google offers on the iPhone, and I set it up there, yes the push worked. Until then I got the Evo in June and used Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync instead of the gmail app.
If you want a true sync, then u can get it set up in MS Exchange by entering your username and password, then click on manual setup, from there, when u see the server box which says gmail.com, you will need to change that to m.Google.com then click next, choose which u want synced then ur good to go.
P.S. screw the gmail app, I prefer the HTC mail app though, has user friendly UI and the ability to multi select files to be movedto another folder or deleted...I tried moving files on gmail and don't see that feature implemented on the gmail app, unless I missed it.
I deleted the data for GMail within Settings Applications and everything was okay again after the resync.
Man.... I have never had any issues you guys write on here, I must be extremely lucky *knocks on wood*
No issues here

I was having issues with the sync yesterday as well. Clearing the data like you said fixed it. Thank you!
This doesn't help I'm just stating my personal experience:
I have never had issues with Gmail app other than trying to save attachments as posted. Other than that it has always been solid. If Google has server issues it wont matter what app you use.
I was forced to change my password today due to 30 day timing on the email password.
So where in the Atrix do I change the gmail password? I tried, accounts, gmail but there is no password box/option in there.
Any ideas?
I'm not understanding: GMAIL doesn't force you to change passwords at thirty days.

Well I work for the largest company in the world that uses Gmail as it's email system. Therefore gmail has corporate requirements of password changes.
Not no matter that I need to change the password on my phone and I cannot find out where to do it. Any help?

Delete the account, and add it back up. Problem solved
"Therefore gmail has corporate requirements of password changes."
I understand now, but I think you mean "our corporate IP has requirements of password changes". GMAIL is incidental, their email policy probably applies to all email.
I poked around and saw no way to change passwords, that's odd. Before you try diablo's solution...Try changing the password, then accessing the account with the phone. It MIGHT be one of those invisible Google things, if the password is rejected I would expect the phone to ask you to confirm/re-enter the password. The same way that a lot of email clients do, when they get a "password rejected" messager from a mail server.
Or...ask the whiz kids in corporate IT.<G> I always figured if they're that concerned with security, they should ante up and buy RSA fobs for everyone. THAT's almost security. Passwords? Is it under your mouse pad, or your keyboard?<VBG>
if you use the actual gmail app on the phone, it should ask at some point when it tries to check.
Found this from some other forum:
I needed to change my gmail password for security reasons, but I knew this would mess with the G1 account too, since they use the same login info. I searched for a way to change/update the password on the phone and couldn't find it. So, on a whim I went to google.com/accounts on the browser, signed in, then clicked on "Change Password". After changing it successfully, I went back to the Home Screen on the phone, opened the GMail app, clicked on Menu, then Refresh. I got a sync error, but the notification gives an option to re-enter your password. I entered the new password, and voila, it worked.
Even the reasoning for this is pretty convincing:
i think they designed it like this so if you got your phone "stolen/lost" you HAVE a way to change your password via online rather than you phone cause obvious your phone is stolen/lost =D

I did this on my friends captivate and it worked. However there is no popup for a failed sync that allows you to update the password on the Atrix.
This is insane. Why would I be forced to delete an account and add bak to change a password.

Something is not right.
Look in ur 'status bar' or in the pull down notifications screen.
Are u sure sync ran? Try sending a test mail from a different account to this and see if it retrieves it properly. Reboot phone n see if the sync was using a cached connection.

This is insane. I tried synching in accounts and in gmail app as well. It fails but no option to reenter the password. Even google talk fails but only a retry option or a cancel option.
Since this is my master account I have to factory reset.
This just can't be right.

Wait. Try going to settings --> applications, and clear data for gmail, gmail storage, etc n see if that works.
I read horror stories about this but when I changed my password I was prompted. I forced a gmail sync which failed and it put an exclaimation mark in the notification bar which I dragged down and clicked. Prompted for a new password and then I was good to go. This was on a phone with Sense and 2.2
Only thing I would worry is if moto screwed it up but I doubt it.

Nope that didn't work either...
AT&T Can't figure it out
Motorola Andriod Level 1,2 & 3 can't figure it out
This is absolutely insane that you cannot change a gmail password. Can anyone else try it? You can always change yours back...I can't since I cannot reuse passwords for 180 days.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really don't want to return the phone since I love it but I can't go through this every 30 days!

It worked fine for me. Got the little exclamation point notification, clicked, and entered my new password. Are you not getting that? Could it be some setting on your company's side? When you try and refresh your gmail app, does it just do nothing?

I have tried to sync in both the gmail app and sync in the accounts area in settings. Nothing really happens and definitely no notifications of failure in the app. When I try to sync in settings>accounts I get the following: Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly." That is next to a sync logo with the red exclamation point in it. That notification appears in the window at the bottom and not in the notification bar.
When I have cell access again I will change my personal gmail account and see if I get a notification.
Ok so a bit more movement on the topic. I do get the notification that asks for the new password on my personal gmail account. I do not get that notification for the corporate gmail account.
Any ideas now?
Well it is working now. Did a factory reset, setup account again. It was working, changed my corporate gmail password and this time on t he phone I got the notification.
Only difference was that I did not have it rooted at the time. Hopefully it doesn't happen again!
So I received a Nexus 7 today as a gift from a grateful client. I'd wanted one for quite a while and would have purchased one eventually, but through luck, I finally have an N-7. But having played with it for barely an hour, I'm concerned about privacy in sharing this device with my family.
You see, I want to use this on my existing Google account, so that dozens of apps that I've previously purchased for my Android phone (Razr Maxx) and Android Tablet (ThinkPad) can be installed on this device without having to re-purchase them all. However, to my great surprise and frustration, I can't seem to make the Chrome Browser logout of my account and stay logged out.. Using App Protector Pro, I can lock down the Gmail app and other apps that I don't want others using. However, even though there is a logout link in Gmail when displayed in the Chrome Browser, whenever I re-open the browser the home page it displays offers to let me sign into my Google account with one click.
I use Gmail to communicate with clients. I am required by law to keep their communications private. I absolutely cannot allow a family member to have access to my Gmail account under any circumstances. How can I let my spouse and kids use the Nexus 7 but make it impossible for them to get to my Gmail through the browser? Note: I have no such trouble on my ThinkPad, but it's running ICS not JB.
You can use switchme for user accounts its the best and probably the only app around here that makes you feel desktop like user account experience. For example after adding a password to your account you can create a new account for your children. New account will not have any kind of data from your account including user apps, cookies, history, mail accounts and even the wifi access points so nothing from your account .

I was able to set up Exchange account for Gmail on Nexus 6 but don't even have this option on 6P. I Googled this issue and someone said that I need Google's Exchange Service apk but it's not pre-installed on 6P (definitely was on 6). I downloaded one from mirror they provided and it seems to work now.
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...ge-services-6-5-1729047-android-apk-download/
I actually could swear that I added this account to my phone as soon as I got it but now this account is simply missing (like the guy said in the last post)
Anyway, why did Google remove this option? Is there some issue? Is this the only workaround or is there a better/right way to do this?
Would recommend you to try Nine Exchange on Play Store instead!
My work has all of the stupid policies enabled and Nine just works wonderful without the need to password protect my whole phone aswell as I just have to password protect the app instead. With the Nexus Imprint you can also open the app with your fingerprint
+1 for Nine. Have been using it for a few years, it's by far the best Exchange client.
I think Inbox might also be an option, but haven't tried it.
Trying to stay with Gmail as I have had no issues until Google removed this support by default for some reason. It works good now as I manually added it.
I really like to have all my emails under same app and I'm used to Gmail.
Does Nine also add events to Google Calendar and integrates this account into Do Not Disturb Automatic Rules? That's another thing I love about Google's integration of Exchange into OS.
It's just strange that Google kept saying that Android are work "friendly" now and then they remove the "native" support for Exchange.
Nine ... Best money I've ever spent on an app. Truly Enterprise level Exchange email client for Android. Their support is phenomenal too. They've personally addressed multiple bugs and enhancement requests I've submitted.

Umm, my 6P on 6.0.1 has Exchange Services already installed. Settings -> Apps -> Three dot menu - Show system. Scroll down, its there. Maybe you didn't know how to add an Exchange account to Gmail? Gmail -> Side menu -> Little down arrow next to your Gmail account -> Add account -> Exchange.
Guess I don't see why you had to download some APK for this.
+1 for Nine, been using it forever. And yes, it integrates with Google Calendar.
Another ringing endorsement for Nine here as well. Phenomenal app and you can still fingerprint unlock the phone, as it's software-level security over device-level (your choice)
And I believe the reason the 'Email' app is gone is because they want us to use Gmail.

Interesting. I definitely did NOT have Exchange Services APK (I specifically checked and I remember it on Nexus 6). And no, I did not have the Exchange option in Gmail until I side-loaded that APK.
Could someone please check if this APK is "uninstallable"? That's the only thing I can think of..... that I manually uninstalled it when I got the phone. At the moment I can only disable it but since I side-loaded it, who knows how it's supposed to be by default..... hmmm, that's actually interesting that a side-loaded app can only be disabled now LOL.
Anyway, it works and I am happy.
Thanks!
