UPDATE: After completely wiping everything(recovery, ROM, bootloader, etc), and putting it back in with fastboot I no longer have this problem. My recovery probably just got corrupted or something while getting sent over to the device.
Got my Nexus 7 3 days ago, had it unlocked and all that jazz within the hour(thanks to the people who put the stuff together). It's great, but I have a problem with flashing .zip files in recovery. It doesn't matter what type of thing I'm wanting to flash(ex-kernel,rom, or even the uber-simple 720p camera mod), if I don't do a full wipe before flashing, then it just ends up boot looping my device. The boot loop doesn't turn the phone all the way off, just the boot animation. Sometimes the launcher will pop up for half a second and then go back to the boot animation.
For example, whenever I flashed the rasbeanjelly rom, I first flashed that, then rebooted(got excited and forgot about gapps) and checked it out. Remembering about gapps, I went back to recovery and flashed gapps. Then it boot looped the animation. After flashing gapps again(trying different combos of wiping cache/davlik), I flashed the rasbeanjelly rom again, and then gapps immediately afterwards. Still a bootloop. So I did a full wipe(including data this time), sideloaded my .zips, and then it flashed and rasbeanjelly booted up with gapps just fine.
This exact same problem has been happening with every .zip that I try to flash(running TWRP, yes all my stuff is updated). If I want to flash a kernel, I have to flash it when I flash my ROM or else I'll get boot loop. I can't really make any modifications without having to completely wipe my device(which is annoying because I carry a lot of data around on my stuff)
I'm asking if there is a way to flash a .zip without having to completely wipe my device. I'm not a noob to android at all(ROM cooker over at androidforums), but I can't figure it out, I'd love to make stuff for the grouper but this is kind of a big roadblock for me. Logcat isn't helping either. Hopefully I just skimmed over something and it's a simple fix. Thank you for your tips/suggestions/solutions.
EDIT: forgot to mention something. When I flash a new ROM and get it going, I always make a full backup in recovery. If I flash something, and boot loop it, I can't restore it correctly. Recovery says that it restores all good, but it still boot loops(even though I just restored a backup of a non-boot looping system from no more than 5 minutes ago).
If I read your post correctly, you've only tried this on one ROM. Try the same thing on CM10 or PA or whatever you want.

I've actually used several, and it seems to be happening on all of them. I've tried flashing things with PA, CM10, Stock, and RasberryJelly. The kernels I have attempted to flash have been Trinity, Motley, and Franco. All with no success and boot looping me :/
Hi I wanted to completely clean my phone so i formatted it via open recovery, menu and then reloaded my stock firmware ready to flash custom rom.My problem is it flashes the rom ok but now is in a boot loop i.e. it boots up to the samsung logo and you hear the bootup sound then it reboots itself. I have removed battery re-formatted caches etc but it is behaving the same way, have I bricked it? is there something else i can try.
Thanks

Hi all, so I got this nice S4 i9505 (telstra unlocked).
after a week I thought I'd try install pacman rom.
I installed openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.1-jfltexx.tar
I wiped all caches, system, data, and than the fatal mistake, I wiped the WRONG data...... now I have nothing on my phone.
It wasn't rooted, I've lost everything, I need to get I9505XXUEMJ5 (stock) and flash it back on, and start again.
I tried CF-Auto-Root-jflte-jfltexx-gti9505.zip
than openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.1-jfltexx.tar
right now I have twrp on there, and not much else.
basically, I've wiped the data and now i need to reinstall stock. than start again flashing pacman.
how can I get out of this situation?
I can't find I9505XXUEMJ5 ANYWHERE with a reliable download, the one I've got is 10KB/s and will take 30HOURS to download T_T T_T T_T I need help....
thanks in advance :3
I need my phone T_T it's brand new.
I'm assuming I9505XXUEMJ5 is the right firmware to flash on it, and that I don't need any extra modem or anything to flash?
to flash pacman rom I just need to install copy rom to phone after stock rom is on, reboot into twrp and flash rom??
what about root?
when I try install CWM-SuperSU-v0.99.zip from TWRP it works, but when I booted into the telstra firmware it said SuperSu crashed straight away.

You can get the telstra rom from sammobile.com (the latest is ND1), but it will probably have the knox bootloader crap on it. As long as you have trwp installed and running, you can install any custom rom from that, root will be done by the custom rom, you don't need to root first and you will find most custom roms will have superuser installed as well.
I have a telstra S4, but I am running Echoe rom v29, when installing it gives you the option to wipe cache and things.

So you cant boot your phone at all? If not you will have to go to telstra or samsung and get them to fix it.
I am wondering if you need a pit file to also flash in odin, you can get a i9505 pit file from this site.
With trwp the latest is 2.7.1.0.

I can get into recovery and download mode, but can't boot. it stays at Samsung GALAXY S4 GT-I9505 screen with KERNEL IS NOT SENDROID ENFORDING Set Warranty Bit : kernel
when in TWRP 2.7.1.0 all zip's I try install always fail.
I'm trying this;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2594483
I'm going to try install I9505XXUEND1 through TWRP.
Got from sammobile
From what I read flashing stock should fix the problem.
I dont think you can flash that through recovery, you will have to use odin.

So that means I should be able to install pacman after installing stock?
Yeah I need to use odin. no problem.
Downloading stock rom now, will take an hour with the slow option on sammobile.
The stock rom I downloaded from some random place that took 30hours!!!!!!!!!! didn't work so I hope this stock one works.
I'll let you all know how it goes.
You will have to install the custom recovery again, but after that flash away!

EDIT:

How long has it been stuck for, I remember it took over 5 minutes to boot, and even then I had to press the power button for it to finish booting.

Fantastic mate, yep go right ahead. In recovery goto wipe, advanced wipe, only wipe cache, dalvik, data, system.

Are you flashing the black power edition RC1 or a nightly?

No prob mate anytime. Enjoy your rom!
Evening. Iv had my Note 4 on a 4.4.4 Rom for ages. I decided to flash it with Resurrection Remix ROM [Android 6.0.1]
Everything flashed fine. BUT I get the "kernel is not seandroid enforcing" message at the top of the screen and the phone either boot loops or turns off. I have a had a look around but there doesnt seem to be any fix other than flash a stock rom to get the phone up and running again. I really want to get a more recent Custom Rom on this phone but Im not sure if I should bother in case I brick the thing. I have managed to restore the phone through TWRP to my previous Rom. Thanks for any help
Did you completely WIPE the phone using TWRP BEFORE flashing RR? That's a must step for stepping into any custom ROM, let alone an AOSP based ROM.
I Wiped Dalvik Cache, System, Data and Cache?
Get back to a 5.1.1 stock, root and install twrp, boot into it and wipe everything. Install your custom rom, then wipe cache and dalvic . Hope it helps
Sent from my HTC Desire 820s dual sim using Tapatalk
Tried to flash the stock 5.1.1 but TWRP fails? Is it to do with it saying that there is no MD5 file present?
Do I need to flash with Odin and select the Rom in the AP tab?
Same as me
I too have the same senandroid in red every time I boot my phone up I thought it was normal after flashing lol
I've had many roms on my 910f and had no issues ..
So I take it that it's not supposed to say this message oops..
I shall try above at the weekend by going back to stock and starting over again.. I use philz recovery btw but will try twrp
And report back how I've got on
Braggster
Any luck with this Braggster?

seriously guys, there are hundreds of post on this topic here on xda. No one is able to do a search?
This is so important for you, and no one do a search?
And it's not even hard to take out: see the picture in attachement.
and there is even more than a process. Just yesterday I learned another one:

Sorry for the spam guys but I am having massivle failures just trying to install twrp. So this is what happened:
I install twrp
it auto reboots
stuck in bootloop
i wipe data cahce dalvik system
reboot, still in bootloop
i flash a custom rom to 'try' get rid of boot loop
the device shows the sm g928i logo and then turns off forever
I cant even turn it on until now...
I try to hold all buttons down and I go into download mode. Thats all I can do. Currently I am installing a stock rom.
But guys can you tell me how twrp got overwritten by the default recovery one?
update 1: Ok i think the device booted properly. after flashing
edit: Its just stuck on the samsung logo just pulsing
edit: I rooted cf autoroot and it is now back at it again with the boot loops
edit: it booted back up and Im checking root
edit: I still got the basic recovery. gonna go ahead and reinstall twrp but will not check auto reboot. Lets ee how it goes.
edit: Im in australia so I dont know which twrp recovery to go for: europe or america?
Thanks.
