when taping the resolution settings while streaming video on youtube it doesn't show also flashplayer 10.1 should support this , has nay one faced this issue i can't choose any setting rather than 360 p no more , no less
Why on earth would you want to watch 720p YouTube videos on a screen that isn't 720p?
The Android app doesn't support it because it generally errs on the side of lower quality due to generally slower cellular connections.
Flash Player on Android likely wouldn't play anything over 480p very well on Android, so even if you could, you likely wouldn't want to.
The problem is I cannot choose any thing except 360p no more no less that is why Ian asking

I swear.. now that I've updated to Overcome 2.0.1 and I saw the browser had the option to change the User Agent, Flash 1080P actually plays back so nicely with the stock browser.
If you try to use Dolphin it becomes a stuttering buffering mess long before the stock browser will. That's not to say depending on the video the stock browser won't do the same but certain videos play much better with the stock browser.
Try it..
Sucks because so many people use Dolphin HD. It's the stock browser for me from now on. Haven't tried Opera Mobile but 11 also brings the ability to change the user agent.
Having problems with the Led torch app it's pretty laggy
Yeah i use stock browser! Its faster than dolphin.

theres definitely special sauce in the stock browser (HW acceleration).
its light years smoother than dolphin or miren.
good on samsung, now fix the broken layout (e.g. to call up bookmarks you need to press menu, then move your hand to top of the screen and press the bookmark button on top right, basically going a full diagonal, usability fail).

It's Vevo, right off of Youtube's servers. I can play pretty much any 1080P Youtube flash video I want. 1080P content plays smoothly. I just watched the Transformers Dark of the Moon trailer and it was completely smooth. Kelly Rowland - Motivation - smoothly... not sure what you're looking for here but my Galaxy Tab plays 1080P flash just fine with the stock browser. Dolphin HD has issues and it always shows the status/notification panel in full screen.
I tried looking at the video and it seemed more like the tab was video recording something else playing the desktop version of the video. The stock browser was denied when trying to watch the video with fourteen million views and said not allowed on mobile. I tried changing dolphin mini to desktop and watching the video but I couldn't select 1080. The popup kept disappearing when trying to go to a higher resolution.
Pull back on the camera and show it was actually a tab playing it. Show proof that it was playing at full 1080. My 2ghz dual core MacBook can't play that high without studdering and a computer CPU can run circles around the galaxy tab 7 horsepower wise. I call fake unless you can show absolute proof. Even if you gacked the 1080 video and played it in the default video player app or dice player, it would bog down because of too much processing power needed to play the video.

Are you SERIOUS right now?!
The Tab doesn't have stereo recording. My Sensation 4G does. Apple sucks the fat one at Flash playback. They don't have any HW acceleration last I checked and use crap like Intel GMA graphics. The mere fact that my Hummingbird Tab can flawlessly playback 1080P flash content and my $1800 Black Macbook can't is really just proof of how sad that is for my Macbook.
NonetheLESS.. there is a new video uploading that clearly shows that it's my Galaxy Tab playing the video and not something else.. damn. With Youtube. With me selecting 1080P. With 2 videos. I'm sure someone else will tell me it's all just an illusion.

Lower the volume because it gets pretty distorted at the :25 mark
Your lucky i guess, because i cant play anything over 480 on youtube, its choppy as on 720, and unplayable on 1080, maybe its a cm7 issue
I'm with heygrl, just watched a number of 1080p youtube clips, in the stock browser. Including the transformers 3 official trailer, on my tab and they all played flawlessly.

I just got my Note in the mail from Clove UK. And everything is great so far, and I dunno if this is and Android thing (This is my first Android device) or a Samsung thing. When I play videos from You Tube or videos that I encoded the blacks are heavily pixelated. (Not sure if that's a word). Am I doing something wrong? What program and/or setting is the best to get rid of that black pixel issue? The test video of the jelly fish works great. Noob questions I know! Thank in advance again for your help.
My guess is that its not directly your fault.
There are several aspects to think of here:
- It may be that artefacts (caused by video encoded in low bitrate) are more noticable on a screen like that of the galaxy note than others.
- It may be that youtube just delivers you the low quality version of the video.
- The video on youtube may be in bad quality to begin with, try other youtube videos and see if it happens only on a few ones or many.
- Note: I see now you already tried the video, so that is probably not a cause. (Your screen itself may have some flaws. Check on that for instance by using a screen test tool like "Screen Test" or playing the video already supplied with the Note (Open the standard video player app that comes with it and select "lightness & slimmess"))
When it comes to watching youtube on a mobile device I recommend (if you have a mobile data connection with enough bandwidth, such as good umts or hsdpa or Wifi) to enable high quality in the youtube app (whenever possible, use the youtube app, and do not play it in the browser).
To do this hit the options button in the youtube app, select settings and enable the first option to enable high mobile quality.
Secondly many videos will allow you to switch between lower and higher quality with the HD button on the upper left (visible at the start or when you tap the screen while palaying) - if you enable high mobile quality this should be turned on to high quality by default.
When it comes to youtube thats probably all you can do to improve quality.
When it comes to playing videos in general (excluding youtube) the standard player can manage most formats. However if you have trouble with some videos you may want to give Dice player a try!
Hope this helps!
Ok thanks, I will def try that!
I belive this is coursed by the hight res/density of the Note screen and low quality of the video in YouTube app, I think the highest quality of video in the YouTube app is only 480P.
I also noticed this problem while streaming old TV shows from PLEX to my Note, this is less noticeable with my Tab 10.1 with the same resolution but its screen is about 4 times larger.
You could use the stock or most aftermarket browser and watch 720P YouTube using Flash on normal YouTube site.
simple solution is to not use the app and just use a browser. ive had no issues watching 720p videos in youtube on the browser.

I've noticed this too with the You Tube app. The blacks sometimes are blocky. A good example is the Avatar 1080p trailer, especially around 15 seconds mark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_i2RCBa3l-g
If I view the same clip on You Tube via a browser (720p settings) it looks better, but the browser is a fiddly substitute for the app on a phone. It does seem to be mostly a bitrate limitation though, so maybe Google or a.n. other hacker needs to modify "HD" on their app to mean a higher bitrate, now we're defining 1280x800 as a mobile screen resolution .
[edit]
Actually, if I watch that Avatar clip in the browser with a playback quality set to 240p or 360p it obviously looks pixelated, but doesn't show the blockiness that's in the You Tube app stream. Looks like the app either is handling the stream differently (badly) or the stream itself is different to that which is sent to the flash plugin in the browser. Wonder if Google is using a different codec for their app. WebM maybe?
Hi all, I've just bought a 32gb N10 after reading all about it here. It came with 4.2.2, the first thing I did was update it to 4.4.2.
Netflix, iPlayer and YouTube/vimeo all have choppy playback, especially noticeable when the camera pans around a scene. I've read that 4.4 can cause video issues, and never tried 4.2.2 or 4.3.
Anyone experiencing the same thing? Any workarounds? I've already tried clearing app cache and disk cache (via recovery)

I watch video from the sources you mention except iPlayer and resolved any playback shutter I've experienced. I'm using rooted stock 4.4.2 and XPosed framework modules. For me the culprit turned out to be an often running background and app "FolderSync". Once I reduced the frequency of the sync the stuttering disappeared.
Here are some suggestions on figuring out the issues.
- at least temporarily disable background activity (eg. Onandroid backups definitely causes video stutter)
- first eliminate the network by copying a HD quality video onto the N10 and play it back from internal storage. If it shutters then get a player that supports ARM7 hardware decoding (eg. MX Player)
- if the test above proves that your N10 can handle the videos then you will need to focus on weak links in your network connection
For high bit rate videos (eg. 1080p my files), Wifi can be overwhelmed so I often use a USB Ethernet adapter.
With MX Player and it's ARM7 add-on I can play any video in my collection. With the the Ethernet adapter I can play Netflix's SuperHD quality while with WiFi lower quality steaming do occur. The. Nexus 10 is a very capable video player.

Thanks for your input. I tried MX player with ARM HW decoder and it works! But for netflix etc it's all software. Did it used to be smooth on 4.3?
I disabled backups in the settings, does rooting let you disable any other backup stuff?

Hi,
I only had a problem with playing videos when my memory was cluttered like other people already stated. Make sure there's no apps running in background! I can't tell about Netflix though, I don't use it hehe, but today my memory was being used a lot by background apps and when I tried to watch a video in MX it skipped many frames and lagged a lot, after killing all background apps the video ran without issues .

So I used wugfresh to flash the factory image 4.4.2 and iPlayer seems better but Netflix still seems a bit choppy (especially when it's streaming in super HD).
I'm disappointed as I mainly bought this to watch Netflix and iPlayer. Are there any kernels or ROMs that provide a better video experience? Will flash 4.3 tomorrow and see how that performs.
When you flash stock and then first setup make sure you do NOT tick to restore from backup. It restores slowness.
I use my N10 for iPlayer every day and works fine but I prefer to use get-iPlayer on a Linux or Windows device to download and then watch on Android it is more consistent experience plus you get HD and I play using MX player just fine.

I have installed 4.3 and netflix and iPlayer are now smoother (still a bit choppy but much better). I wonder if this is to do with the RAM allocation between 4.3 and 4.4. Hope 4.5 is better at videos than 4.3 and would be nice to get ART on it too.

The stuttering can vary by the service provider. Be careful on forming conclusions when you're dealing with remote Internet-based services. I find services like Hulu and iplayer (I don't use NetFlix) varies by the day. If were dumb enough to think that was due to the Android version I could easily make false conclusions. I have a Nexus 10, 7, 4 and 3 PCs and from that try to eliminate the variable service aspect from the Android version aspect.
Do look into get_iplayer, it is very good and in many ways superior to the iplayer App. What you can then do is accumulate media and then use an OTG USB storage device which then makes your need for large Android devices or ones with SD slots much less important.

Yes of course I have made sure that remote connections aren't the reason for choppyness. I compared using the same 50 Mbps connection using my laptop (1080p), an iPad 4, my nexus 10 and my Galaxy S4, at the same time of day sequentially. The nexus came out the choppiest (dropped frames) by far.Even on media downloaded then played back in the gallery app.
It just seems strange that google would release a (flagship) device with an inability to smoothly play 1080p video out of the box.

I don't have any 1080p media mine are 720p. Mine play fine. get_iplayer HD produces 1280x720 H264 25fps 2.3Mbit 1GB/hour files.
Did you literally take stock (without restoring from backup) install MX Player enable it to h/w+ and get choppiness?
I find the video performance of my N10 stunning, it is the fastest and clearest of all my devices. I use it for Hulu+ often at its streamed HD when offered, and usually off local media or streaming off NAS. To make my N10 choppy video I have to be doing typically 2 other things in the background at the same time, I think due to 1GB memory not really being enough.
There are N10 weaknesses, on mine if I load too many apps particularly more than a few Chrome tabs, it does a reboot, so I tend to use mine for big-screen media watching and I got a N7 and N4 alongside which allows more multitasking by multi devices, then my N10 is very stable and performing. For this reason I never would pay $500 for a N10 but got mine for $278 which I think given its stability and performance issues is fairer priced. My N4 which has 24% number of pixels of N10 and double the memory is far far more stable but not really a sit back and enjoy media device.
With MX player and HW decoding it was smooth - however I primarily got my N10 to stream Netflix and iPlayer, neither of which can you enable HW decoding. I will look into get_iplayer but my laptop is Windows for a start so it's a pain in the backside to install Ubuntu etc to download. It just seems like it's a workaround for a deficiency that shouldn't have existed in the first place!
Yesterday I watched a whole movie in Super HD on the N10 from Netflix on 4.3 and it was a lot lot smoother than 4.4.2. I'm not sure why it would be so different, as the OS was generally snappier in 4.4. The picture quality was great, albeit the colours were a bit washed out but i can live with that!

If I'm traveling very light but I need a Windoze machine I have an ancient Netbook which sucks are performance but it runs the get_iplayer and I USB cable to copy over. If I'm traveling light and don't need a Windoze machine I'll have accumulated mp4 to the limit of the internal N10 storage then spill over into the ridiculously cheap OTG USB storage.
Downloading ahead and then playing local content removes a host of issues. It isn't a workaround but an alternative with advantages. Issues with streaming are that the BBC servers / bandwidth can be choppy themselves sometimes plus the Nexus 10 screen is much better than the highest definition content that the App delivers, if you download it goes up in quality (if you set modes=best) and really makes the N10 better to view. So it's relevant to this thread.
What I do is as get_iplayer exists is I accumulate the mp4 and when online with good Wifi 'net access exhaust all the Hulu etc online-only content and then move to watch the BBC stuff. Plenty of situations like hotels crap Wifi service come to mind.
For some odd reason many of my videos on YouTube only show as a 720p option, when there are 1080p, 1440p options available on my sub 720p iPhone 7 for the same video.

I think your Video is just available in 720p.
I tried and could only choose 720p as highest resolution.
Try this video:
Here you can choose higher resolutions.
Here you can see it

What has been stated is incorrect, the above video is available in up to 4k. Simply try from a desktop PC or a different phone.
A large amount of high resolution videos are not showing higher than 720p, yet randomly other ones are (but not that many) That one above was just an example. All of the ones I have uploaded do not appear to be available any higher, even the ones in the past day(s).
Selecting higher resolutions from the performance menu and selecting that makes no difference since I only run my phone in that mode anyway!
Don't get me wrong, a few select videos have options for 1080/1440p such as a few demo videos. But in the large majority of cases content I always watch and know is available at higher resolutions is not going beyond 720p

That KBHD video is one ripped from his channel. That one is 720P max.
Yes I see that 720 for a lot of vids is 720, and there are some that offer higher than 720. For some reason it defaults to 720 even if there is higher resolution available is what I noticed.
Same problem on Nexus 6P running latest 7.1.2. Started happening recently. 720p/60fps is maximum. 1080p not available at all.
i have noticed this too but i think it only affects videos recorded at 60fps? might be worth doing some tests, i tried a couple of videos by searching for 1080p60 and playing them but the highest resolution available would be 720p60.
Seems fixed for me or something.

There are several chrome plug-ins that will force youtube resolution to whatever you want.
Still have this problem on my Galaxy Tab A 2016 and several other people too (look at the AppStore YouTube reviews)
What was the last version without that problem?
1080p60fps issue
I have the same problem... Actually, problem is related to 1080p60fps YouTube videos. I cannot see option to use it, maximum is 720p60fps.
If it is not 60fps, there is no problem to set video on 1080p or 1440p...
I think it's server side or the app itself and not the devices. As shown above there has been no trouble for me switching out higher than 720 even with 60fps. I had that problem initially and had an update from YouTube which fixed my problem.
