[Q] Missing space? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im not entirely sure how much the 16gb Nexus4 should have available but my device is running out of space. Out of the 13gb partition I only have 4gb available.

That space quote is with only 1 clockwork backup.

How are you coming up with 10GB?

Use the app Diskusage to see what's eating up your space. Seriously, everybody should have this app.

For the sdcard, DiskUsage will report this space as 'System Data'
If you have root, which you probably have, you can point DiskUsage at directories outside of the SDCard to see where your space went.

Galaxy S 4G Low Memory

Out of the box I have 190mb free. This isn't supposed to be normal is it? Did Samsung/T-Mob really put .8gb worth of **** on here?
190 mb rom left? Thats sad.
^Exactly. That's why I don't know if mine has a problem or that's just how it is. I'm hoping more people with the phone come in and comment
Same situation here so yours don't have a problem, I think this is just how it is out the box.
I caught it the day it launched.

It's the same pic I posted in another thread.
T-Mobile and Samsung need to explain the application storage problem. It's not better than nexus one if the storage isn't that much.
It does indeed have 1gb total internal with only 190mb free for apps. I can't install anything past the 50mb left mark though...keeps telling me the memory is insuficient and to delete apps 1st...Called Tmobile tech and they said they hadn't heard of that issue yet. I'm sure developers will be able to make some changes to rooted phones and bring back some lost storage so I'm not too worried. It won't be quite as easy to use Clockwork recovery and flash a new ROM though since there might not be enough free room to put the rom on the internal storage. I'm sure we can use ODIN to put a new one on though...

Safestrap says I only have 12mb free. What?

Hi,
I installed Safestrap and I want to create a ROM slot.
But it says I only have 12mb free.
What's up with that?
I uninstalled all downloaded apps from my stock mf3 ROM and moved all personal files to the extSDcard.
I also did a "wipe cache partition" from recovery.
Here's a screenshot of my available storage.

Yeah,
Not sure why Photobucket isn't working.

Fixed it.
There it is.
Plenty of space available.
Does anybody know what's up?

Hello.
Anybody there.
Just seeing if anyone has had this issue with their ATT GS4.
Edit: The reason this says 12 MB is because you installed the wrong version of Safestrap, likely a wrong carrier not applicable to your phone.

Nexus 4 free space miscalculation

Does anyone suffer from this? The phone thinks that there is only 500MB of space available but there is heaps (and it shows this after it calculates everything and even reflects in the graph).
All the warnings about running out of space are very annoying.

I suspect that doing nandroid backups causes this somehow. Formatting the /data partition fixes this up, but it's a bit drastic.

I have the exact same problem. I'll try to erase everything incuding internal.
I'll get back to you after that.
/// Indeed, after wiping internal storage solves this problem.
Glad it's not just me.
I'd like to know a less cumbersome solution than to format, though.

US T-Mobile purchased from Motorola = Pure Edition

attached chat with motorola. can't find these info from search within this forum, so I thought I'd share this conversation record. mine is currently unlocked+rooted. the only thing I don't get is that the 16GB version after upgrade to lollipop+factory reset only gives me 7.8GB left with 10GB of total space, so something ate half of the internal storage with factory reset lollipop on this phone.

16 GB is the total size. This includes the space used by the system, recovery, cache, etc partitions.

I expected lollipop to eat about 2.5GB of the 16GB. it surprised me that pure edition also has lots of pre-installed apps that you can't uninstall and something else not known to me eating 6GB of space.

I am not updating any apps because of this reason

Hello guys,
I used couple android phones earlier and after i kept installing many apps, i ran out of system space in my phone though i had enough internal memory in my phone. So i tries to use xda apps ( forgot names) to move apps and clean up space.
1 I am wondering where do these app get installed in my S8?
2 if i keep updating apps or if i keep installing new apps, will i run out of space?
Please check screenshot from S8 below:

Apps aren't installed to /system, they are installed to /data and it says you have 30GB free so you're fine.

Thanks for replying, now. I wonder how does "system" gets full?
/system should not be your concern unless you root your phone.
this is used exclusively for system files, and data here is only changed when you install a system update.
the manufacturer will make sure no update will ever cause the system storage to fill up completely.
