GS4 - Historical usage menu? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

When I had a BB 9700, there was a menu where you could tell the total on-time of the device since it was manufactured. This menu was never cleared by a factory reset, etc.
Is there a menu that exists in the S4 that will indicate historical usage like that? This is useful in cases when you receive a new or refurbished device and are curious about historical usage. Thanks.

Got one of these off my dad(old business phone, they were throwing them out but had left the exchange settings intact so when I turned it on after 18months I got one of the sales reps e-mails, oops!).
Anyway, it's never been modified or touched in anyway and I'm having a few problems.
1) Randomly, screen goes to 100% brightness, texts wont send, programes wont open, data saved isnt actually saved, and I have to soft reset it. When it does reset, I lose anything saved/received in the last 2-60minutes. Including texts(grr)
2) Battery life is atrocious, and I have it running stripped down and with backlight set to turn off quickly and to run at minimum brightness.
Is there a way to update windows mobile on it? I'm not that big into tinkering, i generally just use it for the keyboard+texting+occasional mobile internet.

Please READ the Wiki, you´ll find all you need to upgrade your WM: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Universal
Try to buy a new battery
Good luck,
I'd suggest you try a hard reset first to wipe any business customisations on the device, you've no idea what may have been left on the phone by the previous user
then I'd look into getting a new battery as the sales reps tend not to look after their kit too well in my experience
then have a play and see if you still feel the need to upgrade

SMS receiving issues

Hello everyone!
I've got some weird issues with my Samsung Focus. Throughout the day, my phone doesn't receive any messages. It can be for periods of 10 hours. If I shut off my phone for a minute, then turn it on, I'll either get a message then another a minute later..etc.. Or I'll get a flood of messages at one time. The messages were all sent from the past, and come in the proper order, but not at the right times (they have a delay). I didn't have this issue until I started looking around at my diagnostic application so I believe I accidently changed a setting in it. I've already talked to at&t but the store here won't do much with it because the water indicator is red. I have my phone in developer unlocked state (I sideload apps and apps that I make). The reset data functions don't seem to change the diagnostic settings back, so I'm thinking I'll have to flash it with an original rom, but I'm not an expert by any means, but I'll understand whatever instructions or tests that are given.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I haven't had a phone that never had text messaging issues so this is a bit annoying for me when people think you're ignoring them.

Omnia 7 eating data at midnight HELP

My Omnia 7 seems to go online around midnight every night and eats up anything between 4-12mb of data.
I did a factory reset and never installed any other apps and its still happening. The only background task I have is the Samsung Now application.
Anyone suffer similar problems? I've only been made aware as O2 txt me saying I was almost over my data allowance, this has never happened before.
Turn of data usage before you go to bed, if it still happens, then contact Samsung for a refund.

Insane data usage - verizon

Has anyone else had really high data usage lately? I have not changed a thing about my phone and Verizon claims I have used 6gb per month for the last two months. Usually I use under 2gb.
They say it's my usage, not their system.I am on wifi about 90% of the day. Any apps that may be causing high usage and I don't know it?

This same thing just happened to me...within the first week of my new billing cycle i got a text showing that i had used all of my data which is 5gb....i know that this was impossible because i had only had my data on a hand full of times because i always use wifi...I had even had data completely turned off in settings...wtf vzw
2 options, 1. check for rogue apps that is sending off data 2. sell the phone and go tmobile for unlimited. I opt for the second option

Looked into the second option, horrible coverage in my area.
First option - How do I check for that?
use apps like wake lock detector but even that you have to know android system real well to define which process that is sending off data. another thing to check is market, make sure its only on "update when on wifi"

Well, did you figure it out? I can't. I called Verizon and they LITERALLY told me that having WiFi meant nothing being turned on and that apps go around wifi to use mobile data. I lol'd and hung up.
Lmao.... some do... anyway, settings mobile data will be decently accurate for mobile and Wi-Fi use if you have no data monitoring apps.

Samsung S8 Glitch? .. I've got one for ya....

So.. Story begins..
I bought my S8 a few months back.. Worked flawlessly (Stateside).. Then I came overseas and the problems began.. I requested my service to be suspended by Verizon and after doing so my phone began to freak out.. I don't know for sure if this is the cause but having just received my replacement device and experiencing the exact same issue. Could it be possible?
Issue: No matter what I am doing on the phone it will freeze for a split second then appears to refresh.. For example.. If I am typing an email, as I am writing my keyboard locks up and the phone becomes unusable then it jumps to the top of the app and then I can continue .. It is SOOOO frustrating because for example.. SnapChat: While I am writing and the screen freezes and refreshes, I lose everything I wrote.. If I'm scrolling through Facebook .. It jumps back to the top..This became more frequent and even more annoying! Even if I am in the settings menu scrolled all the way to the bottom.. it freezes for a second and then jumps to the top of the app.. So.. I began removing apps I thought could be the cause of the problem.. I cleared the cache on the phone as well as the apps, reset settings, removed/re-added Google accounts, even tried some developer options to scale down the graphics, background processes etc.. No avail.. I finally caved in and contacted Verizon who put me in touch with TechCoach app to remote in a see the issue for themselves.. All the troubleshooting steps they walked me through, I had already done.. So they sent me a replacement.. I set the new phone up, installed the software updates, just a few apps to test and sure enough same issue! Then I wiped the phone again.. didn't install any software updates, I left it bare bones and even set the phone up as new (no restore from Google)... So as I am writing this TechCoach wants to send me yet another replacement device.. But I'm certain the "Certified Like-New" S8 they send me will end up doing the same thing.. What it appears to be to me (No expert here) is that once I came overseas and suspended my line.. There's some service/app that is trying to push/pull over network data and since it's unable to do so it's causing the phone to glitch? I mean I really can't think of any other reason this could be happening .. Furthermore, I tried different Wi-Fi connections, changed performance modes, disabled many "enhanced features" ... Any ideas/suggestions greatly appreciated while I wait for the replacement device.... Thanks XDA!
Update:
Verizon had to reactivate my line before they could send a replacement... So I asked the rep to keep my line active to see if the issue persists.. Would you believe it worked flawless as it did when I first bought it without issues.. So my theory was right!!! Some service running in the background is attempting to refresh without connectivity.. I'm now going through every system app to disable and test ... more to follow!
