Let's Get Faux123 an Oppo Find 5! [Purchased!!!!] - Oppo Find 5

UPDATE: WE DID IT!!!! We have a phone on the way to faux123!
UPDATE: We will have enough as soon as Oppo fulfills their word and puts their $250 in. I have $252.50 in the PayPal account I set up for the cause. As soon as Oppo sends their $250, that will put us over the amount! Any extra will be given back to charlatan01 because he donated the most. Between XDA and oppo forums, we have some great people with the phone that don't mind helping others and it's great to see!
So far we as Oppo Find 5 owners have a decent variety of Roms including the most important ones like CM, PA and AOSP among others, but we don't have any custom kernels. A custom kernel would allow us more control over the hardware on our phones. CPU undervolting, CPU overclocking and underclocking, taking cores offline for better battery life. Also things like sweep to wake which will wake the device with a swipe across the screen and gamma control to make this gorgeous screen even better . Faux123 is a great kernel dev. His attention to detail is second to none. So....Let's get him an Oppo Find 5! I will throw down $20 towards it. I will try to keep a tally on the total and we'll see if we get what we need!
I'm not sure if these types of threads are allowed, but I want to get a dev a phone, but can't do it by myself. I'm sorry XDA staff if it's not allowed and please lock it up.
GOAL $500 USD
Bounty so far:
housry23--$25USD
Charlatan01--$75USD
osmosizzz--$20USD
Oppo--$250
CostaNova--$15
__________________
Total so far $385 USD
We can also get vouchers for a discount on oppoforums.com. With those we may be able to save $25 or $50. Once the running total gets to $400, I think I'll set things in motion and cover the extra money, and then close the thread and PayPal account once the goal is reached.

Faux is second to none.... I will throw something in the hat in a few days.

Maybe Oppo can donate one.

I am also working on my own kernel based on some faux changes just haven't had time to test much

Sounds good. I'm not yet taking the actual donation money yet. I'm just gauging interest. When you know how much you may want to contribute, post here and I'll keep a running tally.

Thanks for this! Will it only be compatible with PA? Or are you thinking of supporting other Roms with your kernel?

Thanks bro! I really hope we can make it!!!

Awesome idea, I would really like to see swipe to wake on the find 5! A soon as I get my find 5 I will support this.

I will donate 25 but I will have to do it another way than PayPal because I don't have a PayPal account and wont ever get one again, but if there is another way to get the 25 added I will do so. I know Oppo has vouchers how do you get those?
aaronpoweruser- Thanks man if you can create another kernel all the better, would be very much appreciated.

Oppo has said they will contribute $250. We are getting close guys.

Oppo said they will put up $250, they are really good to the Oppo community, makes me feel better about getting the phone really. That is some good stuff, someone who knows faux123 on a more personal level needs to let him know about this, and about the Oppo community! You wont find manufactures doing this often or at all, gotta give Oppo their props!

Okay after that awesome move from Oppo you can already count in 15$ from me. Really need to get my Find 5 soon

Thanks CostaNova. My question is to everyone here, how do I get the ball rolling on this? I've never started a bounty thread before.Should I start a throw away PayPal account to collect the funds? There's also a site called Pledgie that helps people take donation up to a certain goal. I think they use PayPal as well. Would you guys feel safer if I did it that way? I can assure you, I will not take your money and run, but I'm sure most of you will be skeptical of that. I just looked into Pledgie and I still need a PayPal address and they keep 3% of every donation. I think if you guys can trust me, I should start a new gmail address called Oppo_for_faux and take the PayPal donations there. I can take screenshots of the inbox often and hopefully you guys can trust that I will not screw you over. I am an honest, hard working guy and I really want faux to have this phone.

Hi,
I am here to first say thank you to housry23 and all the users who have contributed. I am also honored that oppo has contributed as well.
Once I get the phone, I will immediately bring this up the standards known to many of my users from other devices.
Thank you very much for the support!
Paul (I approve this message sounds like a political ad!)

OK folks. I have opened a gmail, PayPal and oppostyle.com account for getting faux the phone. Here are screenshots of them. If you want to wait to donate until more people and more money is raised, that's fine. I will update this thread often with a running tally of what's been donated to the account and how close we are to having the total amount.

Donating to devs for the ROMs they make.

First let me say I'm all for it and very appreciative that those of you can cook these and share with those of us who can't. I also realize you're quite busy with RL, etc.
Having said this though, it might be nice if you acknowledged it when people make a donation, even if it's small, perhaps via email. The world doesn't need to see but just seems like mutual respect to me. I've actually made a couple donations now which I was happy to do but the only acknowledgment I even received was the automated PayPal one saying it had been made.
It's also a way to encourage more to donate and repeat donations! Something to think about Devs.

I don't claim to be a developer, yet, but I have received a couple of donations and I emailed them and posted in thread. I'd like to think that I would do that for every donation that I'll ever receive. I agree that some type of personal response should be received.
I agree, but at the same time I know they can get busy... I have gotten a response the times I have donated. It is a great feeling to donate, and get that acknowledgement back that it was received.
It's like when you're in traffic and you let someone over in front of you, and you just want that wave in return.
LOL!

I have received either an email or a thank you post every time even though I did not do so expecting anything in return - that was just my way of saying thanks. To be honest I don't necessarily agree that the devs should say thanks back or acknowledge anything.
They are already doing their stuff for free. We should be thanking them for their efforts. It would be nicer if they listen closely to those who donated and help them out whenever possible. This way we would not be paying them for modification of open source code but instead for their consulting help in making the ROMs work better for us.
All very good points. But also if you donate let the devs know that you sent them a donation and that you appreciate their work. That way they see it sooner (since I'm sure they're not sitting there looking for who donated to them today) and they'll send you a thank you in return. Also paypal names might be different than xda nicks.

And what better way of thanking them than making a donation!
An old adage that has always worked for me...
"Business comes where it is welcomed - And returns where it is appreciated"
I have been on both ends of this thing, back in my WinMo days I created 400+ themes (home screens) in the Motorola Q forums and I can tell you from experience the donations are not going to make anyone rich!
If I had just $1.00 for every home screen I made for the Q that was downloaded I could have retired a long time ago. And that is no exaggeration!
Anything that would encourage people to donate is a good thing, these devs definitely deserve it!
Just my 2 cents worth.

i do agree with your whole post, but what discourages me is that i've donated a few times, and the question remains - whats the advantage??
i've offered dough for helping with real simple rom - no themes...
gotten no replies...
i've donated when i was under the belief of being kept "in the loop" for testing, early releases ect...
and never got anything... nor did i "request" special treatment
so basically, i feel from now on, i'm only donating for "personal" service, or until i get a rom i choose to stick with
sorry, but moneys tight for me, i cant afford to toss a five spot out for each new rom i try - specially when i o nly test it for a few hours sometimes...
I've donated to the same developer twice within the last month ($5 each time) because I appreciate his ROMs.
To date, I haven't received any kind of response beyond the Paypal notification.
Maybe he is just too busy, but it makes me wonder a few things...
- Is he already getting so many donations that it isn't worth his time to answer them?
- Was the amount I gave not appreciated?
- Was it so small as to go unnoticed?
I think the traffic analogy is a solid one. I gave the donations because I felt like they were the right thing to do. That said, not getting any kind of acknowledgment whatsoever left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth.
This experience won't affect my future decisions on donating to other developers, but I doubt that I will donate to the same developer a third time.
I've donated to just about every ROM I used for more than 3 days ... CyanoGen, rEVOlution, Virtuous, etc... usually 20-25$ or something like that. I have yet to get any form of acknowledgement but I didn't expect one either. I donate because I appreciate getting fast and stable ROMS so I'd rather know that those people are busy doing what they like which is programming roms versus spending 2 days a week replying to emails and sending personalized thank you notes.
Of course I would enjoy a little candy like a ROM with an extra feature or just a little something extra for my donation.

Exactly. Just some extra unlocked features for donators would be nice....
Why are the freeloaders getting the ROM at the same time and with the same features and functionality if we are helping with paying for hosting, and other costs etc?

bringing a new dev to the galaxy S forum

I hate non dev questions in the forum and I suppose this is in-between the dev non dev line.. but for the greater good
If I get some of a cracking dev teams attention to this section and ask for your help to buy his team a test phone me paying the first £100 and guaranteeing a refund if it goes tits up would you guys help with maybe £2 donations to get to approx £230?
I am putting my name to the http://www.villainrom.co.uk team who have done a **** load for the Hero and Desire scene to just bring a few improvements that we will all benefit from, I am not offering miracles and will refund everyone else's donations above my £100 if within 5 month you don't all agree them adding time to our amazing potential phone has not benefited us all? one example is the cm6 build!!!
No offence to the current devs like doc etc they do a really good job but the more the merrier?
I will provide all my details to everyone that donates so let me know what you think...

I am of the opinion that the most enthusiastic devs are the ones that do it because they care and they enjoy it, not just for the money.
Bounty threads are well and good, but this is so vague that I have absolutely no idea what the end goals are.
In conclusion I don't have the foggiest idea why I or anyone would want to contribute.

Its not about paying them to do it, as they are people just like us they cant buy everyone phone that comes around. For the majority its done in spare time especially these guys,
If you dont want to get them a test phone then thats your choice but from what I have experienced with what they done for the hero and desire they are more than capable of getting us beyond this base rom with apk's and no real development...
I am doing this to get our galaxy S phones above the ****e IO performance that my £480 paid for and if it means spending £2 each out of 1000's of people then so be it.. ill cover all loses as it will close at £230 when i deliver the dev phone to them
The idea sounds interesting, but I do not know them, so I have no clue what they did or what they can do. Maybe being more clear on that can help motivate donations. From looking at your forum link for a very short time, did not yet show me anything that's really more special that what is already happening.

I'm pretty sure your IO performance has been fixed time and time again with any one of the several great custom kernels we have around here.
We have CyanogenMod under development by some talented guys, definitely far more than a "base ROM with some apks."
Developing for these Samsung devices is a lot different than the HTCs, so I'm not going to assume that these guys are going to work magic on a platform they're not familiar with.
IMO I'd buy Cyanogen a Galaxy S before these guys...

You obviously dont follow the development of CM for galaxy. Otherwice youd know even now custom roms are next to impossible (really custom).
I will defiantley toss in some loonies if there is any chance we can get Ninpo up in here. I know he got an SGS and gave it a good reveiew, and to be honest even if he doesn't acomplish a single thing it'll be worth it just for his legendary release notes!
Based on the amount of damage I've been able to do to my phone in less than a week, I think that a skilled kernel dev could make a huge difference. (Not insulting any of our current devs, just came from the Hero and that guy managed to stretch my use of that phone by like 6 months).
The dev here get donations if they deserving it.

{KERNEL - DEV} (Open Source Kernel) XpLoDWilD's PopAds Kernel- NOTE IS BACK!(30.4.12)

XpLoDWilD's PopAds Kernel for Galaxy Note
Updated 30.4.12
Dev XplodWild got his note back just a few minutes back, expect CM9 experimental builds soon ..
also, awesome custom open source kernel for note goodness !!!
xplodwild twitter update: https://twitter.com/#!/xplodwild
Updated 25.4.12
Xplodwild is receiving his galaxy note this weekend, and will resume dev for the kernel and CM9 soon!
Updated 22.4.12
Team Hacksung Progress : Xplodwild & Entropy
As per Entropy:
Video hwaccel - working
GPS - Working, although GLONASS is either not being used or just reporting as not locked even though it is. Samsung's sat status interface in ICS is mangled, I need to bring gpswrapper over to this device to see what the deal is.
Stylus - Working with apps like Quill that support the standard Android 4.0 stylus API. (Haven't really tested anything else, but I know S-Pen API apps will not work and it's going to stay that way.)
Camera - untested, probably not working, I tried to implement Torch and it did not play well
Updated 21.4.12
stage 1 complete.
stage 2 complete - device ordered. project is ON!!
stage 3 complete - device has arrived already! Dev XplodWild is beginning with his kernel project on the device.
*** News - As xplodwild is waiting for his device to come back after repair... the amazing entropy is progressing with the kernel project based on xplodwilds work ... please read the last few pages of the thread for detailed updates !
Dear Friends,
I was in touch with my dear friend developer @xplodwild who is an integral dev member at TeamHacksung who are developing CM9 for the Galaxy series.
Xplodwild has been developing an open source kernel for the galaxy s2, and he would like to develop an open source kernel for the Galaxy Note as well now. Since the hardware is pretty similar except for certain changes, this can be achieveable quite fast.
So, what are the benefits of an open source kernel for the Galaxy Note?
Click to collapse
- Up-to-date forever kernel : Up-to-date forever kernel : The Kernel shall remain up to date forever, even after samsung or google come out with android 5.0+, and even when kernel will reach version 3.4.0
There is no need to wait for wait or beg samsung to release their sources. After all android and our community is all about sharing and developing with each other.
- Community supported : The project will be open source and community supported, so we can take this is another level really.
- The advantage of having "Updated drivers" - Once we have open source updated kernels and drivers, the developers can continuously work on new roms, ports and developments. and Don't have to wait for ics or other leaks from the company itself. Usually the ports don't have something or the other working (like camera, usb etc.) because the kernel sources or drivers are not available. Once we have this project running soon, we will never see an issue with future android builds or ports etc.
- Ability to do Mods
- Maybe samsung will never release sources or will release very late for each release. We don't need to be dependent on them
How to make this project Happen? Its pretty simple, we all are making it happen
Click to collapse
I would like to Thank "PopAds" and the community for supporting and making this happen. We have in a record time (less than 24 hours) collected enough to buy a note for the development, and now we head towards the 2nd stage.
Thank you!!
How much time this will take to develop?

Since, SGS2 and Note are similar so it should take some days to have it running, then it'll follow the same progress as GS2.
Check out xplodwild's sgs2 thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23462307 , you can see how he is making significant progress everyday and its coming to stable use very soon!
The open source kernels can be used on AOSP / Samsung Roms (with slight mods) / and CM9 based roms, for Android 4.0 +
Lets create our own community based, community driven samsung open source development program.

Cheers mate! Absolutely. I think if we all contribute, we can pave a fantastic way ahead for our phones and make development even more amazing.
Just because sammy never releases its sources so fast, or we have to be dependent on leaks all the time, which always leads to this or that not working...
we can now create ways to make the development for our phones instant and bring in so many possibilities

Assuming you got the money today for the kernel how many time?
I think samsung realease one earlier than you.
I think is more beautiful first you realease kernel and after ask for money.
Naturaly this is a personal position.
Good work

when we have a kernel drop from samsung for the 3.1 kernel there will be a lot of effort put into the kernel..
buying someone a note isn't the way to go about it..
I see no evidence that there's any 3.1 kernel source working properly for the sgs2, I understand they are waiting for a source drop the same as us, so why do you think this guy will get a kernel running for us, when he hasn't for them?
I was going to start working on a 3.1 kernel some time ago, but its going to be quicker to wait for the source, as porting kernels up major revisions can take quite a while.

Same as I replied there:
I can tell you myself that I got my 3.0.12 kernel running on my Galaxy S2. So far it boots, touchscreen and charger works (knowing I've been only working a week on it). I even got a 3.3 branch where I got screen working, but MALI drivers are fuct in the RC hence I couldn't get it to boot yet. But it's possible somewhat in the near future.
Knowing that, having a working opensource kernel that people understand will help having up-to-date kernel for the future. Galaxy S II users are more than happy to get it, and they're more than happy to know that they'll be able to get BLN, Voodoo sound and many other stuff and tweaks available largely before Samsung will drop the sources.
ICS leaks being delayed more and more every day, you can't be sure when they will drop the sources.
All in all, all I have to say is that it's booting. Here's an old video where screen works, but no touchscreen yet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_hhM411lHc&list=UUBMGKNICl0MqId2JPEPsTug&index=1&feature=plcp
Since, as I said, I got a couple things more. Check that on my github: http://github.com/xplodwild/android_device_samsung_galaxys2

I'm not here for the money. If I could do it without, I'd do, but I don't have a Galaxy Note hence I can't test yet.
@XpLoDWilD
I have elsewhere given my opinion to your path.
Maybe I can help you.
Pls try to contact winbug.
Lately, he has given some developers a note for free.
I cant write for him. Pls contact him.

Agree 100%
You are willing to put the effort into this. It may be good, it may not. I am willing to see it through. No software development project I have ever done has been certain. I have spent many hundreds of hours, and sometimes thousands of dollars employing others, on projects that may or may not work. Some paid off, and I keep going on the strength of that.
This is not even a commercial venture! I would not expect someone to buy a Note on the off-chance that the project will gain enough support to get that cash back. If you want a commercial product you pay on results. For an open source 'gift' to the community, I am more than willing to support an valiant effort to give us a kernel we can all benefit from. The Samsung one is just pants.
Just discussing with may very good friend (and son) here, and this type of community-funded effort just was not possible twenty years ago. I love the fact that it is now, and am more than willing to take a small chance on it!
Sorry, rambling a bit, but the bottle of wine is getting low.....

AWESOME... this is what we were waiting since long time.. i appreciate developer and the one who created this thread. nice work androidindian. as of now am struggling to make Paypal payment coz my card is not accepted. anyway ll try in other way to donate.
the thing is if this works out, im pretty much guessing that our notes and SGS2s will be the next HD2s and has all the rights to be. These exynos powered devices are definitely strong enough to be future proof with them kernels.

Oppo Find 5 Needs Developer Help, Donations Will Be Given, Help Make the Oppo Find 5

Oppo Find 5 Needs Developer Help, Donations Will Be Given, Help Make the Oppo Find 5 A Beast Modded With, Roms, Kernels, TWRPs, CWMs, We Need Someone Who Can Do This If You Are Willing To Donate Time To Oppo Find 5, And We Donate CASH.
I know that paperWastage and drewX2 have been doing some awesome work on the Oppo Find 5(OF5), but they cant do everything by themselves. TWRP and CMW are already working, but need updateded I think so. So I came up with an idea last night that would take some of the stress off their back and maybe someone could help them get things going a little faster, of course I will donate and I’m sure other will also. If my idea sounds stupid just delete this thread, I’m just trying to get as much help as we can on development with this device since it has the same CPU and GPU as most devices out today the quad core - S4Pro. The phone cost $499 and if we all pitch in a few bucks we could have the money for this phone to give to a developer who has worked with the S4Pro chipset before and knows most of how it operates and they will know what they are doing with the S4ProChipset. If this sounds like a good idea, I will start off by donating $20 so that that we can order this phone and send it to the developer of our choice. We need a really good dev. that isn’t working on anything right now and can spend some time turning our Oppo Find 5 into a beast.
If everyone agrees to donate a little as you want anything will help we only need $400to get this phone , I have saw more than that raised in one day. I don’t want to be in control of the money someone with a little ore authority here at XDA can do that. So does this sound like a good Idea, If so start getting in contact with some of the best developers that you know and let them know we got a free phone waiting on them and other donation for time and effort.
I WILL ADD NAME IF YOU ANT ME TOO - LIST OF DEVELOPERS. I will add others as people get in touch with the me or other developers and give them either give a YES or NO for committing time to the Oppo Find 5. When list is made we will all vote of which developers to send the phone out to so they can begin development.
1. drewX2 - He is working on Mod of CM10 and he does not even own the Oppo Find 5. Definitely on the top of my lists CM10 WORK http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2197147
2. paperWastage- I think he has Oppo Find 5 already though still dedicating a lot of time and a beer of coffee would be nice.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
10.
If you want your name on the list put in post and I will add it, I only made 10 for now if we need more I will add them later. Hopefully this is something that people consider; you don’t have to donate all kinds of money even $5 will work, Hell $3 will work, anything to get us closer to that $400. Everyone does not need to donate like some people will and donate $20 or $30 dollars. Because right now we need some serious help paperWastage and drewX2 have been doing some awesome work, a couple people can’t do this all by themselves, and if we want to make this phone worth every cent we spent for it, we really need to make this a nice phone that we can flash Roms, Kernels, and all the good stuff then this is a good opportunity to make it happen.
I'd buy a phone for a Dev. I think Entropy512,KamMa NODO-GT and XpLoDWilD already have the phone though....I haven't had a S4 Pro phone before so I don't know any experienced devs, but count me in for $10 a month.
I want to contribute whith my donations.
I´ve already make one to Kamma AOSP´s proyect
My next donation will go to Xplodwild when he launch his new builds of CM10.1
Donations do nothing but fragment the community in almost all situations. In fact, more often than not, users don't even remotely get their money's worth from device donations to developers.
Hell, in my opinion even teamhacksung device donations for CM bringups were bad ideas in the long run - they caused developers who had potential to achieve something to just say "****it, teamhacksung is here, I'll just kang".
If the device is still in a bad state after 4-5 months - yeah, then maybe it's time to start considering donation drives.
But a device that has only had kernel source available for 2-3 weeks? Hell no.
It often takes MONTHS to properly learn a device's ins and outs. You can't just throw devices at developers and immediately have good stuff overnight. More often than not, developers who take donations in advance will just take donations for another device in a month or two - I've seen it all the time.
Don't donate to encourage work to be done - only donate for work that has already been done.
And I'll be blunt - drewx2 should never have created a CM thread here. Blind development almost never works and fails spectactularly instead, especially for a CM bringup. Blind development only works for devices that are 99% identical to one the developer owns (I777 vs. I9100, N8010 vs. N8013, I777 vs. S959G, etc.) His thread is just a donation ploy. Any maintainer with the discipline to do a bringup knows when it is NOT the time to publically release anything because it's nowhere near ready, and also knows that you do NOT do blind development for a CM bringup.
Mod please delete thread, devs should get paid after they show progress in thier work
Mod please delete this thread everything you said made since. Give donation to the people when the work is in progress and completed, and not before I always give donations for devs efforts but you have taught me a lesson.
You know what you are doing Entropy512, you been around awhile, and I wish so bad you had this device even if you would work on it. I really like the phone its badass and its not all that buggy it just needs some kinks ironed out and in my opinion some kernels because this kernel is not running like it should. We need a kernel so we can play with and overclock or underclock with good governors to ramp it up or down.Come on down faux and show-p plus many more.
Can't we all just get along? Work together already.
Okay, enough is enough. This thread has just turned into a playground, as well as being pointless and jumping the gun in the first place. At everyone involved in the arguing, you really do need to stop doing it publicly. At the OP, be patient and see what the developers bring.
Thread closed at OP request.

Let's get a N8 to a great rom developer beanstown106

I contacted the developer beanstown106 about getting him a note 8.0 so he can port his ROM from the note 2 over to the Note 8 and he said he would be willing to.
For the people who don't know who beanstown106 is he is the developer of one of the best ROMs for the note 2 (i know there are many ROMs and i have tried a ton of them) It is the ROM I am currently using and have been for months as it has so many goodies including sd swap, custom kernel options and a lot, I mean A LOT to offer. Very important ! Donations do not guarantee the developer will get the device
There are no guarantees the developer will release anything just because you donated.
Or just pay for it all yourself...that works for me too.

once the s3 gets the premium suite everything should even out nicely with the same mods across multiple devices. the only device that is irritating me is the note10 cuz im new to the whole tablet mode type of stuff phone and phhablet should be quite easy for me aka n2,s3,s4 and n8. and obviously as devices get older they will be retired.. my baseline build for the note8 will be ready soon just got in from work gonna chow and then i will need someone to test flash

Porting the N2 ROM to the N8 wont be hard as he stated already the specs are the same and the only difference between those devices is the resolution
I am sure when the time comes he will be doing a beans ROM for the note 3 but for now all we have is this because the S4 is not even out on verizon
Come on guys lets make this happen $400 more to go or 40 people $10 each :fingers-crossed:

Bump, don't forget every dollar counts
I think this should be mentioned in any donation thread in the very first post. I am only saying this to protect gracious donaters and avoid any potential confusion regarding expectations. I've seen many threads like this turn out very ugly (see Galaxy S2 T-989), people were filing lawsuits, police reports, etc.
I'm not trying to call out the OP or developer but it's important that the OP mention:
- Donations do not guarantee the developer will get the device
- There are no guarantees the developer will release anything just because you donated.
Be aware, you're making a donation. Since there are no guidelines laid out in the OP, don't have any expectations if you do decide to invest.
With that being said I hope everyone gets a Note 8.0, it's the best tablet out, imo.
