Packet data and network issues with Samsung S4 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Using my samsung galaxy s4 , came across couple of problems. The first was resolved after I added the below APN. The second problem I have is ; I lose network coverage several times a day and have to either restart my phone or turn on the airplane mode and turn it off to get my coverage back.
However I noticed that if my phone is connected to the internet(either via packet data or WIFI) the problem seizes to exist.
Have tried everything I could
1. Force reboot
2. enable data roaming
3. Manually selecting Network
4.Changed my SIM card( though havent tried another provider as telstra has very good coverage here)
Internet APN Settings:
Name : Lyca AU
APN : data.lycamobile.com.au
Proxy : <Not Set>
Port : <Not Set>
Username : lmau
Password : plus

MMSC : <Not Set>
MMS Proxy : <Not Set>
MMS Port : <Not Set>
MCC : 505
MNC : 19
Authentication type : <Not Set>
APN Type : <Not Set?
Will be thankful if some1 cud help me with the coverage problem problem

I get the exact same network loss randomly...

[Q] Settings for O2 - internet, mms etc???

Hi All
I've finally got my Desire z, which is my first android phone and I'm having trouble with it.
Firstly, my network o2 in the uk, don't support the phone so can't send through settings for internet etc. Secondly I have tried several sets of APN settings I've found online but none of them have worked.
ALso, despite having connected to my wireless network, I still can't get internet or anything working.
At one point for a couple of minutes, I did have my location and weather showing but now that is not working either.
So far my experience of the phone is nothing but disappointment as I can't do anything with it yet
Can anyone help me?
I'm on O2 UK myself and it took me a while to get it right, but here's what I have and it all works okay (both standard Internet data as well as MMS)
Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names
You need to create two APNs, delete everything else you might have:
Name: O2 GPRS (or anything you want)
APN: mobile.o2.co.uk
Proxy: <Not set>
Port: <Not set>
Username: mobileweb
Password: password
Server: <Not set>
MMSC: <Not set>
MMS proxy: <Not set>
MMS port: <Not set>
MMS protocol: WAP 2.0 (Because you can't unset this)
MCC: 234
MNC: 10
Authentication type: PAP
APN type: default
Name: O2 MMS (or anything you want)
APN: wap.o2.co.uk
Proxy: 193.113.200.195
Port: 8080
Username: o2wap
Password: password
Server: <not set>
MMSC: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
MMS proxy: 193.113.200.195
MMS port: 8080
MMS protocol: WAP 2.0
MCC: 234
MNC: 10
Authentication type: PAP
APN type: mms
And that's all you need to do. It'll use the first connection for regular Internet and will automatically use the second one with the MMS details when needed. I tried to combine them into a single APN, but wasn't ever able to get a fully working solution so I just gave up as the two APN method above works.
Unfortunately O2 send "small" photo messages if they don't recognise the useragent of your phone and I think they're still doing that, but I haven't done much testing with this. Sadly if that is the case there isn't anything you can do except hack your MMS UserAgent (I don't yet know how to do this) or wait for O2 to hopefully add it to their system.
Thanks for those, I did manage to get it working in the end last night.
The problem was that although my phone was connected to my wireless network, it was unable to access the internet (any one got any ideas why?). Cos the wifi was connected the phone wasnt even trying to use the mobile internet settings.
Once I turned off wifi, the mobile internet worked fine.
Now my problem is why my router wasn't letting the phone connect to the internet but allowed it to connect to wifi?
After a restart of the router it all worked fine for a little while (maybe half an hour) then it stopped working again...

The firewall in your router ?
My Desire Z prompted me when I put the SIM in what settings to use.
It didn't have the O2 Mobile Web APN though, just the MMS one. Internet (HSDPA / 3G) was working out of the box. Have added it now and it seems my internet is quicker / more reliably*
Regards
Craig
*As quick and as reliable as O2's 3G data network can be.. Voice n text is always fine.

I've disabled the firewall and still nothing, the phone connects to the wireless but can't see the internet at all.
I'm completely at a loss as to what the problem might be, I'm guessing it's something to do with the router but have no idea what or how to solve it.
MAC filtering on the router?

[Q] Data Stuck Uploading

I tried searching for an answer but couldnt find any. So when i use any sense/sense HD builds on my phone, data works for a bit, but then it'll get stuck with the 3g or H icon and the up arrow showing something is being uploaded. I can't use data then at all and the phone goes really slow and only way to fix it is be restarting the phone. It wont let me turn off mobile data either when that happens. So the phone just becomes unusuable, so i cant use sense builds anymore. didnt happen before, just started recently, last week or so. I dont understand. I'm on T-mobile, i use internet2.voicestream.com for my data and the epc.tmobile.com one for MMS in the APN settings. this worked before, but now im getting this problem. Regular android builds work fine.
What kernel are you using? Hastarin's newest ones work flawlessly for me. Have you tried updating your radio to 2.14 or 2.15? For your APN settings try this. Delete the ones you have and make just this one. It works perfect for me on sense and CM builds:
Name: T-Mobile US
APN: epc.tmobile.com
Proxy: 216.155.165.050
Port: 8080
Username: (leave this blank)
Password: (leave this blank)
Server: (leave this blank)
MMSC: http://mms.msg.english.t-
mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMS Proxy: 216.155.165.50
MMS Port: 8080
MMS Protocol: WAP 2.0 (don't know if this is important)
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
APN Type: (leave this blank)
Also, it's normal to still get a couple of data drops (I get them VERY rarely) but I can fix them by turning airplane mode on and off. I hope this helps.

Nexus 4 not connecting to data using Straight Talk via Att

Hello, I recently signed up with Straight Talk via AT&T and am not able to get my Data services to connect or send/receive any MMS. I have configured my APN settings multiple times now and actually just got off the phone with straight talk about this issue as well. They were no help.
I am using Straight Talks at&t network and my phone reads this under settings>about phone>status...
Mobile Network Type: HSPA:10
Service State: In service (I have 4 bars)
Mobile Network state: Disconnected
Also when I go to the *#*#4636#*#* menu, It says this...
GPRS service: Disconnected
GSM disconnects: ========DATA=======
How can I fix this and get data and mms to work??
If you find anything out, please tell us! I'm starting to think its something that is wrong with the phone...
interesting... I just joined straight talk today using ATT micro sim and i have the same issue... I also have full bars.
I used the following APN and it didn't work for me.
Straight Talk
APN: att.mvno
Port: 80
Proxy: not set
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.33
mms port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
I'm beginning to wonder if straight talk is starting block ATT micro sim activation..?
I was able to get on using their T-Mobile APN settings.

On the AT&T on ST,
I didn't set the first Port you have listed after APN, I left it as "not set" instead of 80.
To the OP can you list what you set your APN to? Did you look at the Straight Talk thread in general area?
Also it might sound weird but check under Settings > Mobile Network Settings > Data enabled.
For some reason it wouldn't be checked for me when I was flashing a ROM or going back to stock ROM.
These are my settings:

APN: att.mvno

Why would the block something they sell and offer service through.
Its also noted on their site, that MMS may not work on some devices
"Updating your APN settings does not guarantee MMS (Multimedia/Picture Messaging) will work." Quoted from StraightTalk.com
I just got off the phone with Straight Talk and I bought a new AT&T micro sim card from Walmart. I asked if they are still supporting it, and they said absolutely, they will continue to. Just FYI

I had the same thing happen to me today and I am on ATT sim. I sent straight talk an email and they sent back a response asking me to call
855-222-2355. The agent had me make sure my data was on then I turned off the phone for 1 minute why she did something on her side. After that it started working again. I asked her what she did so the next time this happens I could just say this has happened before and this is how they fixed it. The agent stated to just call the number above and state that your data is not working and they will resolve the issue. No help, but that is what happened to me.

Same problem. Straight Talk has been working for months, and all of a sudden yesterday no data. I am lucky if I use data a handful of times a month, so I know I am not over any limits. I am glad I printed out Google maps before I left on my trip as a backup, because it was a 120 mile trek. I went to an AT&T store while on the road out of desperation and a person was kind enough to look at the phone and believes the hardware is OK and it is a Straight Talk issue. I am assuming the "Mobile Network State = Disconnected" I am getting is not a good thing. I will give them a call today.
EDIT: Just got off the phone with Straight Talk. They gave me new APN settings, and this is the first time since I have had Straight Talk (4 months) that I am able to get data at my house (It worked while on the road). It is also the first time I ever saw the little capital "H" near the signal icon, whatever that is. I am in quite a dead zone and previously could only use wifi. Yippee! I also see that "Mobile Network State = Disconnected" had nothing to do with getting data as it works now and it is still listed as Disconnected.
EDIT: These are the new settings that Straight Talk gave me:
Name: Straight Talk
APN: att.mvno
Proxy: not set

Username: not set
Password: not set

APN type: not set
APN protocol: IPv4
APN roaming protocol: iPv4

And these were my original settings
EDIT: As pointed out in a subsequent post below, these are the settings that the person in the AT&T store put in. He erased my original settings, which as I recall I got from the Straight Talk site or the sim card instructions.
Name: ATT WAP

Those original settings weren't for StraightTalk but for AT&T. Two totally different services.

FYI the phone won't connect to mobile data until you are using it, its to save the battery. That's why it shows as disconnected in mobile network state. To verify this turn off wifi, if your connect to it, open a browser using your mobile data then check phone status.

Thanks for spotting that. Those are not the original settings I put into the phone; I thought they didn't look right. Apparently yesterday, instead of creating a new APN set, the guy in the AT&T store overwrote my Straight Talk settings while testing out my phone (Not too bright). It really doesn't matter, as neither settings worked properly anyway. I am only getting 1 Mpbs download and 0.10 Mpbs upload at my house now (better than the zero I was getting before), but I am going to have to take a drive later to see what improvement I get.

I see.
EDIT: The highest data speed I am getting is 1.09 Mbps no matter where I go, even running SpeedTest while staring at a several cell towers (Where the signal strength gets better). I gather that is bad from the numbers I see elsewhere?

[Q] Network problem with T-mobile sim card on VZW Note 3

Please help the frustrated me
I put a T-mobile sim card on my VZW Note 3 and added an APN to for the mobile network, the 4G LTE flag shows up in the status bar as expected. The only problem is: when it uses data network instead of WIFI, all non-http network connections seem to get blocked and the only thing I can do is to use the browser to surf Internet. All other apps such as WeChat, Skype don't work at all. WeChat keeps reporting "Server access failure (1, -10087)".
I suspect there's a firewall built in the T-mobile data network but couldn't find any settings about it.
Does any expert here know to solve the problem?
Thanks!
I finally figured out that my Verizon note3 (N900V) can not use the T-mobile LTE network, but once I switched to 3G it worked fine.
This means for APN settings I have to use epc.tmobile.com instead of fast.t-mobile.com. I no longer remember the exact settings but I think it is close to the following (http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1976):
Name: T-Mobile Data (or T-Mobile US)
APN: epc.tmobile.com
Proxy: <Not set>
Port: <Not set>
Username: None
Note: For the Username, enter "None" with the keypad. Do not leave it not set.
Password: <Not set>
Server: <Not set>
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMS proxy: <Not set>
MMS port: <Not set>
MMS protocol: WAP 2.0
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
Authentication type: <Not set>
APN type: default,supl,admin,dun,mms
Are you sure? I'm able to get 4G LTE on my note 3 when I'm outside. Skype works, facebook, and just about every other app except for wechat.
Already sim insert but no network plz soul

problems with unlocked VS995 on ATT network

hello i just got a verizon unlocked lg v20 (vs995) and im having trouble trying to get ATT 4g LTE to work correctly.

i have these on my tmobile LGv10 with the same ATT sim card , and the 4G LTE works perfect on the V10
Name: ATT Phone
APN: phone
Proxy: not set
Port: not set
Username: not set
Password: not set
Server: not set
MMSC: http : // mmsc. mobile. att. net

MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: None
APN type: default,mms, supl, hipri
APN Protocol: IPv4/6

ive also tried tried both Network modes (Global and LTE/GSM/UMTS) but nothing has worked.
my only other question would be if i root it and install the stock ATT rom will it be better or worse?
