Now I can see in 3D!
I was watching avatar in 3D when this app updated. At first I didn't think much of it, but then when I took my 3D glasses off I was astonished to discover I could still see in 3D. Everything I see is now always in 3D! My life is now so much better. I also turned blue and grew a tail. Thanks Samsung!

This app is the GOAT
I was casually on my phone, chilling and stuff, and then suddenly my phone did an update for this. I was amazed upon completion as I looked in the reflection of my phone and saw my appearance had changed into a goat. I galloped my way to the nearest mirror and baahhhed in sheer joy. I'm a goat.

Never buying from Samsung again

Samsung sucks. Look at the T-Mobile G2 (HTC Vision) for example... ~30 MFLOPS result in Linpack with stock clock, and so much more when overclocked to a maximum of 1.6 Ghz (from 800 mhz). Samsung Galaxy S? Never passes 20 MFLOPS, despite having a very similar processor, and not as good at overclocking. G2 has completely AOSP Android and also CyanogenMod project behind it 100%, Galaxy S has customized outdated system and slow (though quite successful) CyanogenMod progress. And the T-Mobile G2 is not the only device I can compare the SGS to; just look at any recent Android phone. The EVO 4G, for example, might have a weaker GPU than a Galaxy S, but atleast it gets superior software support (from XDA and HTC). HTC releases the kernel source quick after every update, while Samsung lags behind (which means that Voodoo needs to be hacked into newer kernels through reverse engineering instead of just slapping in the C code and compiling.)
I bought the Vibrant because my G1 died, and the Vibrant (and entire Galaxy S series) has great performance and hardware, but it's not so great when you have ****ty software engineers (Samsung) getting it all to work.
Never Samsung again. I enjoyed the switch from G1 to Vibrant, and I really enjoy XDA's continued support of the Vibrant. But next upgrade (or earlier), I'm getting a good device from HTC.

Your frustration is understandable. Why don't you tell samsung and t-mobile via twitter directly.
Also, I think since Google chose the galaxy s (Nexus S) as their google experience phone, in the long run, Vibrant owners will greatly benefit.

Linpacks and quadrant have no real justice in there score I know most people love having the higher numbers but there just numbers. My buddy has a Samsung and his quadrant numbers are way better than my evo but I have mine set up so it flows better. Well for me it does. And for over clocking why That **** kills my battery quicker even if its set up like the best evo developers. Just find a rom and a kernal u like and u will be good I know most people like the cyanogen mod but alot of people also hate it.
Another thing can be u got a bad Samsung see if u can get a new one maybe that can get better scores if there thanlt important to you.

I can understand your frustration dude, I really can, but in the scheme of things, whether or you, or any one of us as an individual decides to not buy from them, the fact remains we helped this happen:
Samsung sells 9.3 million Galaxy S devices, within reaching distance of its lofty goal
By Vlad Savov posted Dec 22nd 2010 7:49PM
10 million freaking smartphones. Who thought, when Samsung put that number forward as its 2010 Galaxy S sales goal two months ago, that it was actually going to happen? Well, with just over a week left in the calendar year, the Korean giant has racked up 9.3 million sales of its Android superphone globally and actually expects to sneak past the mythical 10 million mark just before the champagne glasses start clinking. The Galaxy S has also scored a win in its home market of South Korea, where its two million units sold so far leads the iPhone 4's 1.8 million sales. Hearty congratulations are due to the crew in Seoul, such success doesn't happen by chance, but let's keep working on those Froyo (and Gingerbread!) software updates as well, eh chaps?

I completely agree with everything you said. There are positives for our phone, but I just decided to vent today
I did return my first Vibrant because it couldn't boot into recovery or download with hardware buttons (see my signature), and this new one works perfectly. But how can I like a company that failed to keep hardware-button recovery entry working, or possibly did that purposely to prevent tampering?

This happens when you put different phones with superficial similarities on virtually every major carrier around the globe, and call them all "Galaxy S" phones.
I guess the only qualification for being a Galaxy S phone is having a Hummingbird SoC and a sAMOLED screen, though...

Versus what, a company that completely locks down its bootloader or one that turns unlocking it into an elaborate puzzle that frustrates devs' for months? I'm not sure why some Vibrants had the button issue, but I'm sure it was unintentional since quite a lot worked fine just out of the box. BTW, there is a flashable software fix for the issue. My phone didn't work either, but one flash and it's perfect.

If the phone works as advertised and the performance is good, there is little reason to mod the device, other than "because I can" or "I just feel like doing it."
A modded up Vibrant is only approaching the performance of the Droid X, but you had to go through hoops to get there, except they just had to turn their phones on and they don't need to stalk web forums to see when a new revision is out - they just wait for an OTA.
Hardware lock was the least of most people's worries, unless they got bricked by an OTA update.
The reason the Manufacturers go through hoops to lock down bootloaders is because people on forums like these have no issues telling others to lie to Carriers and Manufacturers to get new phones when they brick their phones flashing ROMs, etc. linked here.
There is valid reason for the locked bootloaders.
If we weren't all human, perhaps those reasons wouldn't exist.
If you base a phones value or performance quadrant or linpack you should cook the apks to give tou 4000 every time.....
Those benchmarks are pointless

I completely understand your frustration because Samsung absolutely sucks when it comes to customer service and product support. I have a TV and mp3 player made by them and have had to deal with the terrible CS on those devices. The problem is that over 9 million people have been roped into buying Galaxy S devices and quite a few of them came from lower end phone so they believe it's be best thing since sliced bread. The last two people I know that got the Vibrant and Fascinate came from a low end Nokia and Moto Razr, respectively. Having real web instead of WAP and apps is a whole new world to them. We are a passionate, but small minority in the grand scheme of things. If I mention things like JIT optimization to most GS owners I know, I just get blank stares I like my phone and appreciate the time and effort the devs here spend on improving the user experience. I happened to fall into a free MT4G, so I'm going to give it a shot against the Vibrant (loser's going on eBay). I just wish that Samsung made a phone that you can mod if you choose to, not one that you have to mod to get the user experience and software you deserve out of the box. As a long suffering Cubs fan, I've hear "wait 'til next year" too many times in my lifetime and "froyo's coming soon" is essentially the same thing. It could happen, but I'm not going to put money on it.

I definitely appreciate the OP's feelings on this issue. I upgraded from a Vibrant to a Nexus One as my daily driver and have been incredibly happy with it. I'm holding onto the Vibrant for now hoping that the froyo update will magically fix all its issue, but god only knows when/if that's even going to come.
It's possible that the partnership with Google will lead the Nexus S to not suck in the same manner, but I'm honestly not even considering that device at the moment due to how the Vibrant has played out. The truth of it is this: with most manufacturers, I give them the benefit of the doubt. I assume the product will mostly work, and if there's a software problem I assume it will be fixed. By giving Samsung the benefit of the doubt with the Vibrant, I got burned, and I kept the device until after the return period, waiting for an update that never came.
I won't say that I'll never buy another Samsung phone again - never is a long time after all - but I'm certainly going to think twice about it. And I'm certainly never believing any excuses from Samsung about fixing things after release, ever again. Either it works perfectly out of the box, or it goes back to the store.
Dude who cares about Cyanogens progress? Have you not checked out the awesomeness that is Team Whiskey or Eugene? IMHO Team Whiskey blows Cyanogen out of the water. I came from a mytouch 3g and was worried when I got my vibrant about the quality of roms and devs that would be available. Well let me just say after flashing my first Team Whiskey rom, ill never go back to anything else. Might I suggest Obsidian v 4.2 (froyo) or Nero v3 (gingerbread based but not actual gingerbread). Both are awesome especially couples with voodoo or oclf

I could see the OP being upset about the slowness of the releasing a FINAL 2.2 update (they've graced us with enough good leaks for me to not care). The rest is nonsense that mostly has nothing to do with Samsung.
If you wanted even more devs releasing even more unfinished junk for your phone you most certainly should've gotten an HTC phone so you can flash your heart out every day on junk that almost never reaches a final status.

So, I've got tickets to the #nycgalaxytab event

Other than the obvious!
That would be my first question.
You should really make it clear for them how carriers are screwing up their name with these be-lated updates they do on purpose for their own benefits.
Asking them about the possibility of signed bootloaders from Samsung in the future would be a good one
I'd like to know for sure the cpu/gpu/DAC they're using in the Hercules. I doubt they'll tell you, though. Lol.

Amazing how many people do no know about the Note

I run into people all the time who see my phone and have no idea what it is or even that it's a phone readily available from ATT here in the US.
They have no idea. Most people actually like it and want one. A handful think its HUGE. I am so used to it don;t find it big. I find the iPhone and my SGS2 extremily small now.
It appears Samsung really doesn't push this phone like they did the S2 and now s3.
I am beginning to wonder whether or not a "Note II" will be released.
Anyone have the same experience when other's see their phone?
Yep here the same, a lot of ppl i met did not know that device here in Germany as well. 10% think its to huge but i tell them in even 3 days after i got my SGN i never touched my other SGS1 and SGS2 incl. the SGT7
Well first of all remember that 80% of the population barely pays any attention to gadgets. So it's not suprising that a relatively new device like the Note is still not well known. I guess it also depends on the level of promotion. Samsung ran the Superbowl ad but I don't know how heavily advertised it's been after that.
In India the Galaxy Note has been massively promoted right from the start, something which surprised me at first. However it's been a big success and even regular people seem to be aware of it. Whenever I show it to people, the reaction is generally very positive.
I don't think there is any question that the Note has been a big global success. I think there will be another massive round of promotion around the Olympics and I will be surprised if sales are less than 10 million at the one year mark.
There will definitely be a Note 2 though possibly it may not come this year. There isn't much serious competition yet in this category and Samsung may decide that the Note will continue to sell well. In that case they may postpone the Note 2 to sometime next year when they could ship with Jelly Bean. My guess though, is that the Note 2 willl be released around November this year.
yeah in India, Samsung has done proper marketing for this phone. It has sold well too. I see a huge number of people using it here..
Most people I meet, just look on and are surprised GNote fits in my standard trouser pockets! Confused with a 7" tab.
Hi all. I really hope that a Note II comes along. I'm absolutely loving my GNote. The size is perfect!! I'm from Trinidad and the reactions that I've had have been split 50-50. For everyone that wants one, someone else thinks it's massive and they wonder....how can that fit in your pocket?!? Silly question really...standard pockets have ample room for the GNote. Unless you're a chick....or a guy who's metro or something....
Here in the Netherlands there is an amazing amount of people who have the Note.
I see them literally everywhere.
Sammy has advertised a lot on T.V. and bus stops.
It's unbelievable, they keep popping up.
Although it is a device not so hard to miss right
In Malaysia, Samsung did a great promotion. My company have around 40 staff, we have 7 staff using galaxy note including myself.

There was a report of 250.000.000 note sized phones by 2015. I guess it will be the note 4 by then. Apparently from more manufacturers.

That's so true I'm also the only one in my surrounding who has a Note and they all make fun of me.. "Whoah you bought yourself a boat!"
It's sad that the advertising for the Note hasn't been that big in our country.. people don't even know what it is & that's a damn shame.
it takes a special sort of person to have a note - it is so large that it is a statement about your confidence and knowledge of technology
i look upon those with smaller devices with pity
and i drop change for people with a windows phone...

The reactions are they make fun of me like, wow you have brought you'r tv ? and so on, i dont think its funny but hey, everybody who steps out of the circle will be mucked i guess ?

I bought one because one of my collegues just bought one, I was damn impressed and the Note is just what I needed.
But they do make fun of it indeed, at bars they ask me why I brought my laptop.
I mostly answer that I can't afford glasses or an iPhone.

What a Silly Mistake the iPhone 5 was - just ordered a new shiny Note 2

I had the galaxy s3 which I loved and made the silly mistake of buying the iPhone 5
I gave the s3 to my lovely wife and she loves it
Well iPhone 5 arrived on friday wow I thought .. good choice
How sadly wrong was I
The finish is awful - there are loads of reports of paint scratching and chipping
The keyboard is just so unresponsive .. i thought firstly it was because I had come from a large screen .. I would type wrong letters and not put spaces between the words ... on speaking to one of my friends with the same phone .. yep he was having the same issue and he came from the iPhone 4s
The 3g is rubbish on my s3 I would get between 7 and 11 mb .... on the iphone 5 lucky if I got 4mb
Most apps dont fit the screen properly so basically they look like they do on the iphone 4/4s
It regularly crashed on apps .. which didnt like ios 6
Enough is enough .. I have after speaking to Clove UK ordered the Fantastic Galaxy Note 2 .. (I had the Galaxy Note which I loved but then swapped it to the S3)
I have packed up my iPhone 5 and rung apple to come and collect it .. the chap I spoke to didnt seem surprised when I listed the problems I had had ...
I am hoping for delivery on Tuesday as Clove say they should have enough for their pre orders and also my order .. fingers crossed
What a big mistake the iPhone 5 is ... waste of money if you ask me .. whilst I love my ipad 3 ... Apple could have and didnt make a big difference - android all the way you live and learn the hard way I am now debating to sell my ipad 3 and get the Asus tab with keyboard or the Samsung 10,1 2 .....
Has anyone else made the same mistake ?? I wish in a month of sundays I had never gone back to the dark side

Note 2 will be my first android. I have a feeling I'll be making the same post as yours, just replace iOS with Android. Hope not though!
You won't trust me .. some of the apps may not be as polished as ios but android has fantastic free sat nav in name of google maps most apps are free and you can make your home screen your own .... the only downside about samsung is you can't walk into a high street store and get it sorted however you get free 2yr warranty with samsung and a fantastic 50gb of free drop box storage I will have 110 gb when my note 2 arrives

Hehe, I can do that all already in iOS though. Honestly, I'm just moving for the 5.5" screen. NFC will be fun to play with though, although there are other solutions that do the same thing.
I think the biggest downside is the lack of a central modding place, like cydia. But I've read the CM team is considering implementing a feature like that.
All that said, I can't wait to give Android a try. I have to find the noob area for rooting and flashing haha.

Well I think design wise the iphone 5 looks great but yeah, it looks like it has its own issues, but again every phone has some kinda issue at launch. With that being said, even though the iphone 5 is fact as hell ( yes, it is fast), its software is not only old, but IOS 6 seems like a downgrade from IOS 5 besides the speed. Apple needs a major UI overhaul if they wanna keep their customers. I honestly thought of buying the iphone 5 over the note 2 last week, maybe cause of all the hype and talks, thank God I didn't make that mistake because I played around with my boss`s iphone 5 and again while its fast, it is the same old boring experience and I can't take that. Note 2 all day.

root apps are allowed on the play store, we don't need a cydia-like. For device-specific modding we have the great community of XDA.

I can see an possible incoming argument somewhere. SchusterIX meant an on board modding place similar to Cydia and before you say it, the XDA App is far from Cydia. And we do have a few backdoor root apps that you could use. I didn't think we needed Cydia. But maybe someone on XDA can create something like that. Or maybe Saurik can make one for Android.

The kind of stuff you find on Cydia can already be found in the Play store.
Regardless, I was just making a light-hearted joke, not trying to start a fight.

Good news
I'm up for upgrade in November in the US and on Sprint. It looks like the Galaxy Note II will be here just in the nick of time for me to not get too impatient! Finally upgrading from my original HTC EVO 4G. I have been on Android for my last three devices (since good 'ol 1.x), and was seriously debating an iPhone 5 for my next device, but thanks to all of the negative reviews I am 100% not going the Apple route.
I have been a devout Android supporter for some time, and felt it might be time to at least test the waters on the other side, but too bad for Apple, they still won't receive $1 of my money. The list of issues with the iPhone 5 is rather large thus far. Reports of screen light leeks, scratches & scuffs out of the box, easily scratched back, the failing Maps app, and sub-par SIRI. I even just read a Gizmodo post regarding tons of people 'complaining' the phone is 'too light'. Kind of a strange complaint, but the only positive I have heard thus far is in regards to the phones hardware speed, and blistering fast LTE data speeds on Verizon on the US.
Unless the rumored next version of Google's Nexus hits shelves in time and the specs are worthy enough, Samsung Galaxy Note II all the way baby! I cant wait!!!
Apple, proof the grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence.
Your definately right there the only thing apple is good for is sending the crappy iphone back to them

I actually know 2 iphone users that just went to the S3 over the iphone 5. The larger screen was the main reason given so you're not alone.
The Note 2 looks awesome!
Op I'm in EXACTLY the same situation - got the iPhone 5 last week came from a s3 to that and had a 4s as well. Man the iPhone 5 is such a major let down from the 4s! There is no difference to warrant an upgrade from that. On top of that I broke my s3's sim holder trying to use a nano sim with an adapter! Returning my iPhone 5 next week as soon as I get my gn2

I don't understand why anyone would get the iPhone over the S3 or Note 2. You didn't realize right when it was announced it was such a minor upgrade? I'm not knocking apple too much I mean all cell phone companies are doing just minor upgrades now. But ignorant people still think iPhone is so incredible. More people need to see the light.

You may have seen that weird symbol from Nothing's last presentation, everyone was expecting to see a smartphone, yet they only showed a SILHOUETTE of their smartphone (alongside a bit of the UI), so, using every hint they gave us, and trying to apply their design system, here's a concept of how the Nothing phone(1) could be like. (plus my ideas regarding the features this phone could have and what their future strategy might be) .
UPDATE 07/06/2022
I apologise for not posting the 2 previous survey forms, but work life took over and you can now find all four surveys in the links at the end of the post.
Last week you had the chance to join our first Beta project with 2 very cool quick surveys. This week we’ve got a more detailed one, with a few Qs around connectivity and personalisation.
The questions are open, but not compulsory. But please try your best to answer all – your feedback is super welcome and will surely help steering our team in the right direction.
Talking about the team, this is what they’ve said after reading all your answers from the first 2 surveys:
"It will take some time to develop dynamic colours and we’re working on it now. Once it’s done, we’ll update it to a new version of the Nothing Launcher and make sure it can be implemented on the final design of Nothing OS.
Regarding the toggle of hiding the search bar, we’ll also try to implement it with high priority in the later version as soon as possible, so please stay tuned."
Get involved in all three surveys, they’re super quick to complete, and your opinion is much valued.

Nothing (event): Return to Instinct.
This is it, what we have been waiting for is in sight.
The long wait is coming to an end! It's about time, you'll tell me!
We've been riding this hype wave since the official announcement of the Nothing Phone in March (1).
All your ideas, your suspicions, your doubts, everything you could imagine, put it all in the bin and I invite you to remember this date.
Tuesday 12 July 2022 at 16:00 BST* live from London on nothing.tech
To make this event even more exciting, a competition is being organised on the official Discord.
So if you are interested and want to participate, please spread the word on all networks and check on this post here

Behind the scenes of Nothing's hectic life in London.
Here's the latest excellent video released by the Nothing team showing some of the personal lives (especially for Tom and Akis), of how the Nothing machine worked before the official launch of the Phone(1) and you can see some of the core Nothing team moving into their new offices, some of the members as yet unknown, and see the complicity that exists in this anthill.
The surprise when we can see what will be, maybe, the Phone(1) in Carl's hands.
The video can be seen via this link: HERE
Not only does this video show us part of the anthill that is Nothing, but recently, if you're a Londoner, you must have seen posters with a green parrot on them, like this one:
But also on Twitter, parakeets and the green parrot appear with parts of what could be the Phone(1).
Updated:
If you take the latest tweet from the com Nothing team, something should happen tomorrow, Wednesday 15 June.
Unfortunately, I don't have a schedule for this event.
So if you want to know more, I invite you to check the Nothing Discord and Twitter page.
Nothing's instinct revealed!
Yesterday, in post #7, I wrote that something was going on today, Wednesday 15th June.
Well, it's done, early this morning the parrot revealed the back side of what will be the Phone(1) by Nothing.
Here are 2 pictures, and I leave you in reflection mode.
Are you pleasantly, if not really surprised by the design?
Disappointed? Were you expecting something better?
Tell me what you think?
I'm curious to know your first impressions!
It looks sharp, but uninspiring. I guess carl pei really took Apple's design language with the rounded corners and sharp sides. This is a typical candy bar smartphone with wide + ultrawide (my guesses) cameras and a clear back glass. Somehow I expected more... guts? Leaked video showed light-up effects to music is interesting but not really a gamechanger, besides it's existed in my 20-year old pc build lol.
Now it's really gonna come down to price and specs.

Even if this lighting seems obsolete to you now, it really is a change from all those stereotypical smartphones.
What would you like to have changed?
For the moment we have only seen the back of what should be the Phone(1), so we don't know much more!
I'm playing devil's advocate and trying to understand what people want! Some write that it's not great, it's a copy of Apple, etc...others that it doesn't have curved edges; others that it lacks this or that! that Sammies are better! In short, everyone gives answers but without really giving elements that allow the general shape of a smartphone to evolve.
For the price, I think it should be between 500 and 600€, no more, no less.
As for the specs, I think it should be the latest Snapdragon 7 gen 1 (new mobile chip for the mid-high end).
For the rest, I have no idea.

Fair questions. I'll have some of my own takes and I guess what I'm looking for:
Lighting is new, but is just a gimmick, as it does not change the way we'd use the phone.
At best, it can be a notification LED once again.
Front can't really be that different from normal candy bar phones. What it SHOULD have IMO:
Super AMOLED or equivalent display
Available 1440p or better
120hz LTPO 2.0 or better
Hidden front camera (Under display like ZTE, or popup like OP 7s)
Networking should, at minimum, provide:
Dual SIM, with eSIM support optional, in all markets
True global band support, with proper CA Combos, like how Apple (13s and such, not SE) has handled things and even some OnePlus (see https://cacombos.com/device/NE2213)
Performance, obviously depending on the price:
8GB of RAM is minimal, even for midrange these days
128GB of storage is fine to reduce costs, with a
MicroSD slot
3.5mm jack, with a decent DAC
at $700, I would expect them to be capable of SD8+G1, at $600 I would want to at least see SD7G1. No Samsung fabbed anything please.
Software:
Just run stock Android please, moto style of customization on it might be ok but no more skins like OOS, OneUI, etc
Proper 4+ year of dev support with on-time releases. See Essential team pushing out patches before the Pixel team back in the day.
Unlockable bootloader
Proper open-source code releases to enable devs
But again, these are just specs I would want to see on a "flagship killer" for a price of $600-700 USD. None of these really fundamentally changes the way a smartphone works, but could be exciting from a price/performance perspective.

I understand what your thoughts, but if you're honest can you imagine a flagship-killer with almost of yours specs for $600/700 USD. I'm not sure!
I see that you have a OP 10Pro & SGS22U, their are not really cheap! And do you have all the specs you want?
But I'm sure that the S7G1 is a SoC, not SD8+G1
3.5mm, I think not
MicroSD, now it's useless with 128/256 Gb of storage
I suppose 6/8 GB or RAM
Stock Android without majority of bloatware
Bootloader unlocked and open-source
It's just some speculations from me.
If you are not on to the Nothing Discord, can I suggest you to join it, if you want to discuss with some of them and explain your thoughts.
I'm on both, here and Discord.

I go through a lot of phones.
Take ZTE, https://screenrant.com/zte-axon-40-ultra-price-how-to-buy/
It actually has almost everything I want, with a better camera array than what the nothing is showing. The cost is $800 and there are available discounts. The only problem is poor band support in the US and SG8G1 being a Samsung fab chip. If nothing wants to compete, they need to at least be able to beat other competitors, so at $800 it better look as good as ZTE on paper.
