Backlight bug and/or light sensor problem

I bought a Nexus 7 in the Play store.
At first run there is a problem: androidcentral.com/nexus-7-display-goes-dark-boot-check-auto-brightness
To solve it, I lightened on sensor,screen went on and I turned autobrightness off.
However,this method doesn't work in recovery and I can't see anything.Flashed CMW, CMW Touch, TWRP - still no backlight.The display is working,because in bright sunlight you can see the interface.

Got my new N7 Monday and I had the same problem. Called Google, they said it's either a software issue (where a factory reset could help) or a hardware issue (the likely problem). As expected the reset did nothing. I have a replacement on the way, but I'm a little worried since the device was otherwise flawless.

[PROBLEM] The notification led doesn't turn off

Hi guys, i was using latest kalo ROM without any problem since yesterday, when i noticed that my notification led was red but i had no new notification, i also powered my phone off and also when my phone was turned off the led didn't turn off. The led turned off only when i removed the battery.
I tried everything, i reverted back to official 2.3.5, but the problem was still there, i also updated to official ics, but nothing...
Could someone help me? If anyone has any suggestion i would be really grateful =)

Maybe you burned your notification light? You could probably replace it.
By the way, this should go in Q and A
Edit: I thought it wouldn't turn off. Download root dim from the play market, Select other lights and scroll all the way down to red and select it. From there, try resetting it by turning it off and going back to system default. If that does not work just keep the led notification off.

It could be, in this days rained so much here where i live...

Because I read in some other threads with two different phones having the same issue, I think the one was sgs2...
So I suggest you flash an official ROM and go to warranty if you still have one...

There is more than one way you can receive water damage including humidity.

The problem is solved... I did nothing, it solved by itself, the led turned off and now works fine, everything now works fine, i don't know what it could be, it's a strange thing... anyway thanks to everybody who tried to help me =)

strange problem

Hello everybody,
first I have to say that I´m from germany and I´m sorry for bad english .
But no my problem:
Yesterday I tried out my new Nexus 7, everything worked fine, no problems...
Than I had the bad idea, too restart my device.
So I turned it of, trying to restart it -and yes you´re right- it doesn`t turn on again.
First I checked out the internet for information and I found out I´m not the only one.
I also found out that I don´t have the same problems as the most, cause I tried to start the device with pressing on 40 seconds or on+volume down....and all these tricks.
The next step I was trying, was too open the nexus backcover and disconnect the accu but the result was the same :
The Nexus doesn´t start!
But the funniest thing is that my PC regionise the Nexus and I can read/write on the internal storage.
So what do you mean ?
I dont want too send it back(cause it´s a bit of complicated - I had bought it in Ebay.de from somebody out of austria ) ...

It sounds like your screen has failed. The PC would not see your internal storage if it were not on. Maybe you could use one of the toolkits to try and restore a factory image in case it is operating system related.

Thank you for the quick response .
Do you think I can fix the screen by myself? Maybe it´s an connection problem and not the screen itself ? The Nexus 7 Toolkit I tried out a little bit, but its not easy to do anything with it, because at some tasks I have to do some input by the Nexus and I can`t see anything.
Another thing is why did the display failed by turning on again and not when it´s on ?
I hope I can fix it today :crying: I just dont want to stare at it, instead of playing with it.

Hold the power button for a full 30-35 seconds. Make sure it's plugged in, just in case the battery may have drained to much.
Should restart.

Nexus is running. I cant believe. )))
Thanks for the tip tootbrain, but I tried this out over and over again without any result.
Then I want To show my father the problem. I pressed the button just to demonstrate, but then it works.
Another thing was, first the screen had very low brightness (cant set it up with the brightness settings ) and after one hour suddenly it had became bright. And i didnt do anything.

maybe when you disconnected and reconnected the screen you may have fixed a previously broken connection, or even given it a little power jolt that got it working again? from your description of brightness staying low then slowly goin up to normal use....maybe you just breathed some life into it.:good:

GT-i9505 Blank Screen Problem

Hi guys. My almost brand new Samsung Galaxy S4 has just stopped working.
I was doing homework and one of my friends text me I look at the text and lock my phone screen and that was the last time I saw my screen working properly.
I later tried to turn on the screen but I had no luck, the screen wouldn't show anything, it was just blank but surprisingly it recognised my touch and made the sound. I could unlock my phone and even turn on apps by guessing where I kept them. I could turn on music and it would work but the screen would remain completely blank.
My phone was rooted and it had the stock rom but it had a custom kernel which enabled over clocking to 2.3 ghz (Ktweakers kernel I think) but the limit was set to 1.89 so I don't that that was the cause.
When I restart my phone the screen where it says "Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505", I think its called the splash screen? I'm not sure, anyways instead of it being black with white writing, its really weird and is bright white with very light white writing. This is the only time the screen actually works, and the other time it works is when you try to put it into download mode but both times the screen is bright white and everything is very light and faded. After the "GT-I9505" screen goes away the screen goes black the blue LED still flashes and you can hear the samsung boot sound and the phone boots up properly without the screen.
What could be the cause of all this? I have literally kept this phone on top of my head. I have done nothing to harm it in any way what so ever. I have never dropped it. From day one I had a thick case incase I bumped it and damaged it. Anyone else having this problem? Or am I the only one? Do you guys think I'll be able to fix this or will I have to take it back to the store?

U can try to go to stock recovery and try to wipe cache and see if it boots up
If u have custom recovery wipe cache / dalvik/ fix permissn and reboot
else u should download a stock firmware and flash it using odin it will work incase even after u flash a firmware and again stuck at Logo etc go to stock recovery and wipe cache and reboot

Thank you for replying! I had cwm recovery installed but I reverted back to stock mod through odin. Now I am trying to wipe cache through stock recovery but the problem is that I can't see anything that I am doing. I am relying on pictures of the stock recovery. I know that my phone goes into recovery mode but it does not show anything on the screen. I am assuming I get stuck on the part where there are lots of no's and one yes.
Would It be possible if you could post a picture of that (The screen with all the no's and the one yes) because maybe then I can wipe the cache.
And I am already downloading the stock firmware, but it is taking forever because if the extremely slow internet. But the thing is that I don't see any logos, it boots fine but it doesn't show anything on the display. But I also know that the display is working because it still shows the "GT-I9505" screen. I'll post my progress here.

I dont have a s4 with me now using htc one for while flash the firmware Stock one using Odin and wait for better result

Okay so I downloaded the stock rom and flashed it with odin and it basically did nothing. Rather before flashing the stock rom, the splash screen would show (the screen that says "Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-i9505") but now it does not show anything. It turns on normally like it should, it makes the boot sound but does not show anything on the screen. If you have the lights turned off, you can see a flicker when it turns on and thats the only time the screen actually lights up. What do you think I should do? I still think it might be a software issue. Also I don't think I have warranty because I have flashed my phone a few times. Its still very upsetting that this has happened because honestly I haven't done anything to this phone.

Haha no I don't think so Well I'm still taking it back to Singapore but I will probably have to pay for the repair.

Does your screen not have cracked (from the inside ) ?

I don't think it does. Because before flashing stock rom, the splash screen would show and it had no cracks. So no actual damage, I still think it is a software issue but I don't know how to fix it :/ I still can't decide if I should take it to Samsung (which will take like a few months) or I can take it to a local repair shop and they can look at it which shouldn't take more than a week.

For repairs it takes 2 weeks before you get your device back (at least in my country)

Repairing it doesn't take very long, taking it to the repair centre will take time. I bought my phone from Singapore and I have to take it there if I want to get it repaired. I took it to the Samsung repair centre in Bangladesh, they said they can't repair my model because they don't support it here :/

The samsung centre here will send it to a repair centre. Here i will lose the phone for max. 2 weeks.

same problem
The same exact thing happened to me yesterday. Opened a text from a friend, tried turning on the screen and black screen. Thinking of sending it to samsung but do you have a solution yet? Was the problem diagnosed?

My Samsung galaxy s4 i9505 screen is dead--
I woke up this morning and my phone is still charging... But I cannot see my any data in the screen.. But my phone is still working.. I can receive phone call with my headset.. I cannot see anything in my screen.. It gone black.. Can anybody help me to fix this.. Or is this a firmware issue.. My phone has been rooted and installed official android 4.3 jellybean. Please help!!!

Just today I spend the same, except that the screen starts flashing, and at times the picture and the picture looked twice was very unstable, it restarts, and for the image of the i9505 without problem.

The touch and other features of the device, work perfectly. Try booting in recovery mode and I could not look very bad image.
In trying to backup my data with titanium to try to do a factory reset, began to regain normalcy. And right there my device works perfectly.
Bring 7 hours working normally my device. But I have fear of failing again. And now looking for information about possible solution. No warranty now.

AND VOALA WORKS AGAIN! but after 5-10 minutes and everything is again black?! wtf i said!?! its not normal! my screen is working flawlessly colors touch response... everything! do i have to reconnect the display connector every time? i think its not normal. what must cause this bug/glitch/issue?!?!
i am rooted with cwm and cyanogenmod 11... i dont think its caused by the rom? what do you think guys? give me suggestion before i try to demolish the phuking fone))

Hello Guys, this issues is very common when you rooted the device and install Wanam Xposed.
You can try flash a stock Rom and stock Kernel with odin, try to swipe cache and dalvin using ADB.

Display not working on my pottter. Phone turns on but display is not turning on.

Hey guys .. iam a Moto g5 plus user.
My display is not turning on. But I can attend calls by swiping up when the phone rings , I have flashed twrp, and iam on Android extended experience now .
This issue happened when I was using phone casually, just like that my display got off and it never turned back on no matter what I tried,like switching off/on..or trying to get into twrp recovery.. nothing made the screen to turn back on.
Please help guys.

Try booting to bootloader and see if the screen is working correctly, try flashing or if not Your screen got damaged by something or due to Falling. If you use a touch and put on screen you can see the display is working but the backlight is not(the light which is project the colours coming from device). You need to replace it.

i tried booting to bootloader. it didnt light up the screen. and i flashed stock rom through fastboot ,phone booted in stock i heard the 'hello moto sound' but still the screen was off.
i didnt damage the screen through fall or anything , this issue happened when i was using my phone normally.

Then your screen need to be replaced. Some how your screen got screw and now it won't work. Did you try using a flashlight on screen if it working???

You need to replace the screen from service centre to work your device again. And if you keep a touch on old screen you see the colours but that are very dim. So you need to replace the screen.
