[Q] Lockring then PIN/Password/Pattern - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello!
I currently have a Nexus 4 on the three network. I am running Android 4.2.2, rooted and with a custom rom of 3.50 Paranoid Android.
I use a pattern for my lockscreen at the moment, but was wondering something? Is there an app with lets the phone have a lockring with the apps on it and then when you swipe to unlock it, you still have to do some type of security.
Basically I want the functionality of the lock ring (open apps quickly) while sustaining the security aspect of passwords.
Thanks,
Adam

I was wondering about this too. On my old HD2 one of the CM10 (i.e. JB 4.1) ROMs had this functionality so maybe CM 10.1 has it as well. I'd wait for someone else to respond before doing anything but if you desperately need this but want to retain all the features of PA then try out the PAC ROM which may well solve your issues.

Cheers. I'll check it out now

CM 10.1 doesn't seem to have it. I'll check pacman in a few moments.

did you figure out how to do it?

Nope. I couldn't find it at all. The best I could do is have a widget locker lock screen then a pattern lock. I'm not too bothered anymore

Jelly Bean CM10 Lockscreen gestures

Hi,
Does CM10 or CM9 support lockscreen gestures? I can't find anything about it in the FAQ or the description of the ROMs.
I'm wondering why this question has not been asked more often... In my opinion this is one of the best features- I can turn on the flashlight drawing an "L" while my mobile is still in my pocket!
Another thing is the permission management. Is it possible to block some permissions for an app in CM9 or CM10 ???
I'm still on CM7 but would like to switch to JB as soon as I know whether those features are available in CM9 or CM10.
Thank you,
Greetings
Haven't seen this so far, but i will also keep on searching. If i find any helpful stuff i will post it immediately in this thread.

I'm really hoping that the lockscreen gestures come back...
Am I the only one who is thinking that this feature is so important?
Nope u arn't alone I also think so

i too think that lockscreen gestures is one of the best features of cm7, but i wouldnt get my hopes up regarding it being ported to cm10 as one half of the screen is taken by the unlocker 'slide', and the other is by music control. remember in cm7 the music control was 3 little buttons at the bottom and there was plenty of room for drawing the gestures. i have no idea how it could be solved now :/
Man I was hoping this was already available!
I never used cm7 by myself cause i have an st15i and when i found out about cm the newest version was cm9 so i used that one. I was surely cool to have gestures on the lockscreen and i cant wait for it to be ported (somehow). Google gesture search is like the cm gestures just not on the lock screen but works exactly like cm version.
Please ask all questions in Q&A. Thread moved there.
I really miss this feature. Hopefully lockscreen gestures will be implemented in CM10 eventually, but in the meanwhile, the "Gesture Lock" app seems to be a close approximation: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.whacked.gesturelock&hl=en

I'm using this right now, but it has some faults.
1) no sensitivity control like CM7. So, a curved line pretty much runs the same gesture as a straight line. Without sensitivity control, you are very limited to the gestures you can use unless they are uniquely intricate.
2) The giant clock. I hate this clock on the bottom of the screen. I have a lock screen image I use that displays owner info and some other important info. The clock takes up a large portion of the screen and makes it hard to fit. Besides, the status bar has a clock, so it's pretty much just double displaying info I don't need. I would be willing to pay the developer to add a hide clock option, but next item rules out that option.
3) The developer isn't working on it any more. I've emailed him to ask some questions and he said he's pretty much too busy to do anything with it, so don't expect any updates or improvements.
4) No shortcut ability, other than launching apps. CM7's gestures would let you set a gesture to run things like direct dial a number, toggle sound, turn on flashlight. Gesture lock can only launch apps. While this is a let down, I have found a solution to the problem by using Tasker. Takser now has the App Factory which lets you create an app for anything Tasker can do, which is pretty much anything. So, I've created a few apps like toggle flashlight, which unlocks pattern lock, toggles Tesla LED, then locks the device again. Essentially, it toggles the flashlight pretty much the same as CM7 did. I've also made a couple direct dial apps that work similarly to dial a phone number and relock the screen.
5) No way to choose the color of the gesture trail or disable trails. I loved that I could hide the gesture trails because I made my lock screen look like a regular lock screen with a slide to unlock graphic. If you didn't know the gesture to unlock the phone, you would think the screen is frozen because the slide was just an image that didn't move! With Gesture Lock, you can see the yellow trails and it gives away everything.
Overall, it's a decent app, but nothing close to the CM7 gesture settings. I will forever miss it if it never comes to CM10. I'll probably also never use CM10 if this feature doesn't get added because I am perfectly happy with stock JB as it is now. I've got a ridiculous battery life on my Razr Maxx HD, so I don't really need to save battery, which was my man reason for switching to CM7 in the first place. I wonder if enough of us request it with a donation if it might happen. Anyone else interested enough to donate for it?

I would definitely chip in for it.

I just found another alternative: an app called Gestos, available free on the Google Play.
It's a really nice gesture app with lots of options, including a gesture lockscreen that works well. Unfortunately, the custom lockscreen includes an ugly clock that I don't like, but the gestures work well.
The app also has a thread on XDA.

[Q] Clock in status bar doesn´t change

Folks,
I rooted my Nexus 7 and it worked fine as it did before with my GNex and my Bravo.
After trying some custom ROMs I decided to stay with the latest Codename Android release.
But now I realize that the clock in the status bar doesn´t change/update the time.
If I change anything regarding the settings in Settings -> Interface I´ll get an time update, but then the clock always tells me the same time although the clock in the lock screen works fine.
Anybody with similar experience?
Cheers
Chris
Typical C.S. answer, but did you try and reboot?

That's weird. I am running CNA nightlies and have not incurred this problem.
Yes, I rebootet the hell out of the nexus
Unfortunately without effect. Well, I think I have to live with that as the ROM is perfect for me.
Have you tried switching launchers or themes?
Really, I don't get it .... Now it works without changing anything.
I have a self-healing ROM.
THX for your replies

[Q] Removing lockscreen camera

As a matter of preference, I set the DPI of my nexus 7 to 320, by changing buildprop ro.sf.lcd_density. This sets all applications to run in an enlarged cell phone mode. I love the way everything looks, and while I know most people wouldn't agree, it's perfect for me. However, doing this added the camera to the lockscreen as well, and I can't get rid of it. I'm running Lockscreen Policy, which allows me to remove widgets, but because the device is a Nexus 7, it won't allow me to disable the lockscreen camera (probably because it's not supposed to be there).
An interesting problem, with hopefully a simple solution. Thanks in advance, and thanks for all the help this community has already given me.
fyi, I am using stock rooted 4.2.1, stock kernel. I'd really like to be able to revert the lockscreen back to the way it was in 4.1, but I don't see that happening without flashing a ROM, which I don't want to do.

[Q] Lock Screen Widgets with Security Lock

Hi Guys
Apologies if this has been asked before but the search feature doesn't seem to be working.
Got my S4 a few days ago and loving it, but there is one thing that has been annoying me.
If i set up any sort of security lock on the lock screen I am unable to add widgets. It only seems to work when you have swipe set as your unlock option. I was able to add widgets just fine on my S2 running jellybean with a pattern lock.
Does anyone know a way around this? On the S2 jellybean you had an option to show the normal swipe lock screen before the security lock screen. Hopefully this will be something they will add in a coming update because it really was a great option.
Would like to know if this is happening for other people, if anyone has got around it or if any one has any alternatives that I could try
Its done as a security feature. Its not very secure having a PIN to unlock your device yet have widgets for email, Twitter etc accessible from the lock screen.
I'd like to be able to access the camera from the lock screen too, but unfortunately no luck.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh yes.........but we are on Android, not Apple, where the consumer would like to make this choice!

What you're saying is not true. On vanilla jellybean on the nexus 7, you choose the widgets that you want accessible from the lock screen. Even with security on.

[Q] Remove annoying notifications on lock screen? (CM 11, 4.4.2, Nova)

I just purchased a Note 3 (htlecan), and installed Cyanogen 11 (4.4.2) rom from Temasek. I also installed Nova Launcher.
I've been searching for a way to remove the notifications that appear on the lock screen on the right side, but can't seem to figure out how. I've tried disabling lock screen widgets, and it still appears. I don't have any third party lock screen apps installed, and I know it's not Nova doing it.
I'm also rooted, so more extreme methods are doable.
I'm pretty sure it's either a CM11 thing, or a Kitkat thing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, here's a screenshot.

I'm wondering if anyone can tell us what app is doing it.. is it Kitkat or Cyanogen? What ROM and Android version are you running?
It must be an extra feature in Temasek's rom. I'm using the standard/official CM11 and those lockscreen notifications are not there.
Try asking Temasek directly. There's a specific thread about it in the development section.

Well I found it, and it was already disabled. Wierd..
I had to turn it on, wait for a notification, clear the notification, then turn the feature off.
Settings -> Temasek spare parts -> Screen and animations -> Lockscreen notifications
