Jelly Bean CM10 Lockscreen gestures - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Does CM10 or CM9 support lockscreen gestures? I can't find anything about it in the FAQ or the description of the ROMs.
I'm wondering why this question has not been asked more often... In my opinion this is one of the best features- I can turn on the flashlight drawing an "L" while my mobile is still in my pocket!
Another thing is the permission management. Is it possible to block some permissions for an app in CM9 or CM10 ???
I'm still on CM7 but would like to switch to JB as soon as I know whether those features are available in CM9 or CM10.
Thank you,
Greetings

Haven't seen this so far, but i will also keep on searching. If i find any helpful stuff i will post it immediately in this thread.
regards jomochito

I'm really hoping that the lockscreen gestures come back...
Am I the only one who is thinking that this feature is so important?

Nope u arn't alone I also think so
Sent from my MB525 using xda app-developers app

i too think that lockscreen gestures is one of the best features of cm7, but i wouldnt get my hopes up regarding it being ported to cm10 as one half of the screen is taken by the unlocker 'slide', and the other is by music control. remember in cm7 the music control was 3 little buttons at the bottom and there was plenty of room for drawing the gestures. i have no idea how it could be solved now :/

Man I was hoping this was already available!

I never used cm7 by myself cause i have an st15i and when i found out about cm the newest version was cm9 so i used that one. I was surely cool to have gestures on the lockscreen and i cant wait for it to be ported (somehow). Google gesture search is like the cm gestures just not on the lock screen but works exactly like cm version.

Please ask all questions in Q&A. Thread moved there.

I really miss this feature. Hopefully lockscreen gestures will be implemented in CM10 eventually, but in the meanwhile, the "Gesture Lock" app seems to be a close approximation: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.whacked.gesturelock&hl=en

I'm using this right now, but it has some faults.
1) no sensitivity control like CM7. So, a curved line pretty much runs the same gesture as a straight line. Without sensitivity control, you are very limited to the gestures you can use unless they are uniquely intricate.
2) The giant clock. I hate this clock on the bottom of the screen. I have a lock screen image I use that displays owner info and some other important info. The clock takes up a large portion of the screen and makes it hard to fit. Besides, the status bar has a clock, so it's pretty much just double displaying info I don't need. I would be willing to pay the developer to add a hide clock option, but next item rules out that option.
3) The developer isn't working on it any more. I've emailed him to ask some questions and he said he's pretty much too busy to do anything with it, so don't expect any updates or improvements.
4) No shortcut ability, other than launching apps. CM7's gestures would let you set a gesture to run things like direct dial a number, toggle sound, turn on flashlight. Gesture lock can only launch apps. While this is a let down, I have found a solution to the problem by using Tasker. Takser now has the App Factory which lets you create an app for anything Tasker can do, which is pretty much anything. So, I've created a few apps like toggle flashlight, which unlocks pattern lock, toggles Tesla LED, then locks the device again. Essentially, it toggles the flashlight pretty much the same as CM7 did. I've also made a couple direct dial apps that work similarly to dial a phone number and relock the screen.
5) No way to choose the color of the gesture trail or disable trails. I loved that I could hide the gesture trails because I made my lock screen look like a regular lock screen with a slide to unlock graphic. If you didn't know the gesture to unlock the phone, you would think the screen is frozen because the slide was just an image that didn't move! With Gesture Lock, you can see the yellow trails and it gives away everything.
Overall, it's a decent app, but nothing close to the CM7 gesture settings. I will forever miss it if it never comes to CM10. I'll probably also never use CM10 if this feature doesn't get added because I am perfectly happy with stock JB as it is now. I've got a ridiculous battery life on my Razr Maxx HD, so I don't really need to save battery, which was my man reason for switching to CM7 in the first place. I wonder if enough of us request it with a donation if it might happen. Anyone else interested enough to donate for it?

I just found another alternative: an app called Gestos, available free on the Google Play.
It's a really nice gesture app with lots of options, including a gesture lockscreen that works well. Unfortunately, the custom lockscreen includes an ugly clock that I don't like, but the gestures work well.
The app also has a thread on XDA.

lockscreen unlocker

Hello desire community,
I just though of an idea. I like the look of the lock screen on sense, but i miss the option to have two sliders (one to unlock, one to silence). What is someone could build a slider that can slide up and down, plus has a slider point in the middle that can slide either left or right. I have attached an example but I am not a good artist so I hope you can understand what it means.
+1, that would be neat
I thought so to but:
1) I don't know how to program that
2) I can't even draw it very well
Like WidgetLocker, perhaps?
http://www.appbrain.com/app/widgetlocker-lockscreen/com.teslacoilsw.widgetlocker
Moved to themes and apps
I have widget locker. I was thinking like the rotory slider but with one "slider" in the middle and four directions to slide.
This is what he wants except the places where it fades he wants it to rotate, and i agree would be cool.
Edit: this as in dragging up, and down, and rotationg side to side, would give it 4 ways to move instead of just one, and would take full effect of the possibilities of the HTC design...
Exactly I could imagine using up for dailer, down unlock, left mms, and right ringer. If it is in widgetlocker they could be customized
That's a really nice idea, i'd love to see such a feature.
Nice idea but I can imagine the amount of unwanted actions in pocket etc.

None because you would have to touch the middlepoint of the slider to make it work and thats veeeery unlikely....

[Q] Notification Tray BT, Wifi, and Mute

Coming from my Cyanogen Nexus One, im starting to miss things. The most missed thing is the quick toggle of Bluetooth, Wifi, Mute, and Airplane mode that were in CM 6.1.1 under the Notification Tray.
Anyone know what that program was called? Of course it is possible that it wont even work on the Atrix.

Its part of the rom, and not a seperate app. Of course, you could dig through the CM sources and see what that is, and then see if you could port it.
Get beautiful widgets, they have an entire set of toggle widgets that allows you to do this quickly.
They also have an excellent clock/weather homescreen widget.

you don't even need that, there is a stock android power control widget. the point is, in cyanogenMod, you could pull down the status bar and toggle those from any app. so you could turn on GPS without leaving maps, or unlock screen rotation without leaving the web browser. It was really handy.

Come on guys... You got the phone 3 minutes ago.. Please don't start this. Give it some damn time. I'm pretty sure Cyanogenmod will be up in a few weeks. It's not like the Nexus One got Cyanogenmod in day -1. Seen as the phone is not suppose to be even out yet.

Are we really all having this conversation again? The bootloader is signed...nobody's going to be designing custom kernels anytime soon. Once the key is found or another exploit is found...sure. Until then? no dice.

Wasn't trying to talk down the Atrix, just fully explain the feature from CM.
I'll be happy when AT&T flips my data service back on again so i can actually set up the phone and use it. Kinda dead in the water right now.

Yeah, I was just trying to cheer you guys up. We'll have some custom roms up and running soon.
Get switchPro Widget. that way you can make 7 shortcuts on your homescreen to enable/disable GPS, Wifi, Bluetooth, Mobile Data, Sync, Silent/Vibrator and airplane mode just to mention a few.
Guys, the idea is to have it in the Notification Tray, not on my homescreen.
Also, im not asking for a custom Cyanogen Rom. Just because there are people on here that complain every 5 minutes, dont get an attitude with everyone. It was a general question about if it is a program. It is not. End of story.

The Samsung Galaxy S phones have it and it is a great feature. The idea of widgets or the power control widget is not the same as it takes up space on the screen - having a list of shortcuts at the top of the notification area is simple and elegant.
My solution is to use quick settings (app store) it has a notification tray icon (you can hide it unless you pull down the tray) that lets me get to a set of toggles.
BarControl will let you put any app in the bar.. I use it with ToggleWifi and Bluetooth mode for notification bar toggles on a stock N1

widgetsoid is another option also.

Modified lockscreen from JHA? WHY!?!??

I've just bought the Galaxy Note (wonderful indeed!) and the lockscreen doesn't have the lower end shortcut to 4 different apps, as I saw in some video previews last month.
It was something very similar to HTC sense 3.0 to be clear. I have version JK4, did Samsung remove it in my version not to have any issue with HTC?!
Anyone else owning the GN can confirm the lockscreen has only the meteo widget and nothing more?! Anyone with the previous JK1 version can confirm the lockscreen had the shortcut feature??
I do really hope someone can extract it from the older firmware version, it would be great!
It was a very useful feature!
UPDATE: I saw in the video I wrote you about that the firmware version having the lockscreen shortcuts was an old JHA! I do really hope someone can dump it in order to extract the lockscreen!
I was just wondering about the same issue and I wanted to open my own thread for this as I see yours.
Maybe you should rename the thread title in "Starting apps from lockscreen" or something like that?
I really want to have these shotcuts on my homescreen to as I am changing from HTC Desire HD an I really miss the possibility to start application right there.
Of course I could use widget locker and something like that but I would prefer to have the original lockscreen.

I don't have the note yet (soon!), but I am pretty sure the lockscreen with the icons is only an Ice cream sandwich thing.
I have not seen any videos that mention this in the stock Note, nor does the manual mention it.

That's different.
Yes, you can put app icons and allow them to work.
But the advantage of the ICS method is that it is almost impossible for you to accidentally activate anything if you are say, trying to find your keys. I use widgetlocker but I disable interactions so I don't accidentally, say, call someone.

You can create multiple application sliders with Widgetlocker, too. It's not as elegant as the ICS or Sense implementations, but it does the same thing.

I'm talking about some previews I saw during Ifa back in September. It couldn't be icebreaker sandwich for sure, even because the os shown during those preview was gingerbread 2.3.5
Just look on you tube for galaxy note preview made at Ifa by, for instance, HdBlog and you'll know what I mean.
I got my Note a couple of days ago. I'm very happy with it: superb screen, as smooth as my SGS2, a lot more portable than expected
I also immediately noted the absence of these app shortcuts on the lock screen, and after trying every option in Touchwiz this feature seems indeed to have been removed in this version (N7000XXKJ4).
Has anyone tried to run the leaked KJ1 ROM, to see if it's activated there? Or did Samsung remove this utility indefinitely for patent-related reasons?
Look at beta of go locker. Ics style but still beta.

Of course I know about go l know about go locare or widget locker but I'd rather have the default system lockscreen already with shortcuts indeed!
I modified the starting post: the version having lockscreen shortcuts is JHA
Now I could be totally wrong here, but this is what I saw on the Tech News Today (TNT) video podcast.
Apple won a court case concerning a patent they have for the lock screen gesture/swipe action. Basically, they have a patent on the gesture for the lock screen where you start at a specific point "A" and swipe to another specific point "B"! So any other manufacturer or OS cannot have a gesture to unlock the screen where your finger has to Start at a specific point on the screen, and then End at another constant point on the screen, such as the way the iPhone unlocks.
That is why you now have to start (or place) your finger ANYWHERE on the screen, and drag or swipe to any arbitrary area on the screen to unlock it. There can't be any point 'A' to point 'B' gesture or swipe because it violates Apple's patent.
Notice that AFAIK it has only been the Manufacturer's Skins or UI/UX's that have implemented these gestures...e.g. Samsung Touchwiz, HTC Sense, etc.
I'm not sure, but I think that Apple's case was only against Samsung and "Touchwiz", so Google & its pure Android & ICS as well as HTC may be safe from this (for the time being)! In fact, I think this is the reason for the new lock screen gestures, and Face Unlock, in ICS!
Check out Tech News Today Video Podcast #358 starting at 22:50, or search on www.9to5mac.com
So just be aware that if you download any upcoming Stock or OTA manufacturer UX, Gingerbread, or even Froyo updates, you may lose your precious lockscreen shortcut gestures!!!

Annoyances/Bugs in Samsung Jelly Bean (DLH7) update

To be honest, I really love this update. So many new things! Made me feel like I have bought a new phone all over again. But there are a few issues..
1- Grey statusbar. Why Samsung changed it from black? God knows why
2- Background in the toggles panel in "Notification pull-down", [not the color of toggles itself]. It feels so out of place. The color doesn't match Touchwiz color scheme.
3. WiFi has very slow speed, and can't maintain connection. <<< this is the killer bug for me!
4. Browser will force close (FC) when users try to go to bookmark selection.
5. Help app is very weird. The "step-by-step" guide (e.g for WiFi) is pointing to the wrong location. This is maybe caused by the major changes that Samsung has done to the Settings app. If this bug is still present in final release, then many people will complaint, especially the non-technical one. Samsung made that "easy home screen mode" for a reason, to help those new smartphone users. That "Help" app was supposed to go hand-in-hand with the new Home screen mode.
6. Phone will vibrate even though there is nothing happening, no notification whatsoever.
-Possible causes are WiFi error, and apps FC.
7. New widgets (the white one) are great, only that it doesn't match the color scheme of the old widgets.
-Most of old widgets are in black, e.g Music player, FM radio, Mono Audio, Negative colours. The new widgets, e.g Dialer, Favorite apps, Favorite contacts, Favorite settings, Messaging and Simple alarm clock widgets are all in white. Only two of the new widgets retain the black color scheme of the old widgets, which are the "turn off all sounds" and the "smart switch" widgets.
8. AC charging is very slow, did not test USB charging but some users said it's slow too.
9. Battery draining.
-This might be caused by mediascanner that's constantly running in background, and scanning without stopping.
-Other possible cause is the random vibration bug (point #6) which makes the phone awake so often.
10. Touchwiz is very unstable.
-Sometimes, folder will not close and stays on every homescreen I go (sorta like Pop Up Play).
-Seldomly, app shortcut (or icon or whatever you want to call it) will be replaced with an invisible icon that takes up space. Touchwiz will FC if I try to put an app shortcut to that empty space.
I might add more when I found it, I'm using Omega v16.1. Hopefully this post will help someone, especially those who want to upgrade but can't make up their mind whether they should or not, and not to forget Samsung development team (damn you cunning bastards, LOL!) :silly:

Relax, man. I labeled this thread with very specific title, to discuss bugs in Samsung DLH7 update. The fact that I mentioned "bugs" means I know the rom is still not an official rom, that is leaked to public. You gained nothing by being a prick in the online world.

I know about both fixes because I have been reading posts in Omega thread discussing the latest custom rom (Omega v16). I just want to make a thread with all bugs I found (that shouldn't need fixing in the first place), so that it will give others (that is still on ICS rom but wants to try JB rom) some kinda warning, before flashing.

Also maybe point to the already present solutions to the browser and WiFi bug and show the positive aspects as well, like the smoothness etc.

Since its a beta, bugs are expected. However, I feel that LH4 and LH6 were much better than LH7. LH7 is bit slower and ram leaks. Also I don't like that why voice commands are merged into s-voice again.
Not got an opinion on leaked test roms that are not the final build .

i think the random vibrations seem to be events like wifi connecting and disconnecting. it took me a while to figure that out.
also seems to be a bug with the gmail notifications. when you collapse the notification it shows the text as partially is cut off instead. not quite sure how to explain it. but it was working properly in LH6.
they are either changing a lot of things and testing, or they keep doing things which ends up breaking something else.

visual mods

Hi all,
In the past a few mods have caught my eye, over time they've slowed stopped being available on all devices, mostly because of changes made to android.
Here's a list of the ones I liked most.
1. Screen off animation, the CRT on /off it just looked amazing.
2. List view animations, not completely gone but not exactly something you can just flash.
3. Halo, I know this was paranoid androids, but it never got ported over quite as much as I thought it would..
My question is are these available anywhere ? Any idea how to flash them ? Or even if anyone misses them like I do?
I know that CRT and list view can be obtained by flashing two Xposed modules called
Screen off animation and xui mod.
Halo I've never seen outside of PA.
But these mods used to be flash able as standalone without Xposed.
Personally I'd like to avoid Xposed as it breaks so much and I don't like it to be honest, although its a great bit of software.
Any ideas ?

You can use Screen Off and Lock ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock&hl=en ) to achieve your desired screen lock effect. I too LOVE the CRT T.V. off look that Moto put on their phones some time ago. I use this app all the time in conjunction with Nova Launcher's ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher&hl=en ) double tap action just to make everything super fluid. As for the list animations, I am not too sure what you mean but they may be found in Nova settings too. I know it has an option for something like that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ As far as the Halo type things you may want there is an app called Unique Controls and does not require root. Hope this helps!

This is one of my old HTC devices the list view animations can be seen here as can the screen off animation,. The CRT animation was changed from not existing to CRT to fade which it is now, the Nexus devices had it originally then vanilla type phones like Moto followed suit.
I've seen the application and it's not quite the same, although it wasn't last I tried it, I'll give it a whirl and see how it is.
Same with unique contrails, sorry I probably should have mentioned this too, they aren't quite the same as the originals.
Appreciate you taking the time to answer though, thanks.
From what i remember it was something to do with surface flinger but I remember that that has now changed although could be wrong (screen off animation that is)
Any other ideas?
Ok so that app has come a long way, by all accounts it doesn't allow for the actual power button to show the screen animation and fingerprint didn't work, probably a way to map a key to it.
Will check it out tomorrow
Cheers
Ok so tried a few of them apps and none of them allow you to use fingerprint thereafter

Yep there was, however back in the day it wasn't required.
