AT&T & T-Mobile models the same? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

AFAIK, the only thing different in the radios is the lack of HSPA+ support in AWS on the AT&T model.
Does this mean the AT&T model can be flashed with the T-Mobile modem and have use of all the bands? After all, the AWS antenna is there for LTE. Similar situation with the iPhone 5 (except AFAIK, Apple is not going back to enable HSPA on AWS for the older AT&T models).
Food for thought.

There are several threads for this already.

You could have at least said yes or no instead of using more words and being a **** about it. Some of us would like that information in passing instead of having to hunt around. I'm not that curious, but you're still a ****.

Haha. True I would like to know too but not that curious to go out my way to find out.

Lazy and feeling that you are above the forum rules?
I let the OP know that the issue has already been discussed so he /she could use the search function to find the information they requested. There is way more information in those threads that already exist than I could ever put here. How is that being a ****?
If you are not interested in "hunting around" for answers and just want them handed to you on a platter, I suggest you sell your phone immediately. Good day.

we all are in trouble if this continues. you will find as soon as we are able to get busy later..that these type posts will go untouched. then you will have no choice but to hit the search button.

OP here... Searched but haven't found anything yet. Searched for "Galaxy S4 T-Mobile modem interchangeable" and "Galaxy S4 modem interchangeable".
If they were discussed in a thread that isn't directly related, then it'd be harder to find.
I also searched by going through threads. Can someone point me in the right direction, please? Thanks.

As far as flashing an AT&T ROM with a T-Mobile radio or flashing a T-Mobile ROM with an AT&T radio, no one yet knows because the AT&T bootloader is still locked. It has been possible to do so on other models of Galaxy phones, but the Devs need to take a look at it to make sure the rils and other settings match up.

Thanks. The idea is to buy the AT&T exclusive 64GB SGS4, get all bands working (using T-Mobile radio), and flash the Google Dev Edition ROM for a clean Android experience.
That would be my ideal phone, really.

[Q] Forcing 3G on T9193 HD2

Success! Flashed my 1st ROM and 1st Radio. I know that to the guru's here that's no big deal but it took a lot of nerve to risk my $500 investment to the mercy of my newbieness and potential to brick it.
Now I have a few more in-depth questions for the very helpful staff around here.
I flashed Radio Leo RADIO 2.07.50.27_2 on a suggestion I saw in a thread here that stated it was the best to use on AT&T in the US. I had the stock Radio at first. I am running Artemis v331_0409_WWE which seems very well behaved and has just about all I need less the typical bloatware.
My question(s)...
What is the difference in features/performance between the stock Telstra Radio, the generic OEM radio from HTC, and the radio I have flashed? Should I be seeing any sort of improvements?
I ask this because I see all the radios published for downloading but not much on specifics as to features or benefits.
I am also interested in forcing my HD2 to stay (forced) on 3G and stop dancing back and forth between 3G and EDGE. Is that possible?
I have good signals for both 3G and EDGE but sometimes the EDGE is stronger and it drops down to it and screwing up my connection speed to a crawl.
I know that in the TMO ROM on a TMO HD2 it had the ability to select the bands (at least that's what I recall). Do any of the Radio Gods around here know how to do this or any Cooks know if this is even possible?
Any answers on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Answered my own question
After some creative searching I found an answer to the "forcing 3G" question.
Why HTC buried the band settings in a phone menu beats me. But, I found the answer. I was hoping it would have been in a more logical place like wireless connections, but hey... what do I know.
I'd still appreciate some specifics on my radio questions as I'm not looking forward to flashing every conceivable radio to see which one works if I can at least narrow it down by getting some recommendations for the best one to use on AT&T.
there are no differences between those three radios except for version.when you are trying radios you need to run them au least a day if not two to get any idea for comparison.
Wait, you're getting 3G on ATT with the TMOUS? How are you forcing it to 3G? I thought we were stuck using Edge!

I did not say anything about 3G on TMO, the thread is regarding the T9193 (Telstra), not TMO branded.
Yes, I am getting 3G on AT&T, but its with a T9193. TMO's version has different hardware with a different Radio Chip frequency. Flashing does not change that since it is hard coded in the Radio chip.
Sorry.

If there are no differences then why are there different versions? Doesn't make sense to me. I'm not arguing your point but I am curious as to why a new version Radio is released if there are no differences. That would be like Microsoft releasing Windows 7 version xxxx12345.0 and then releasing version xxxx12345.678.1 and doing so for no apparent reason.
From what I've read, there must be a difference if the performance is different so it would indicate to me that there must be some tweaks on some parameters. I'm trying to find out what those parameters are and what they affect.
Oh well! That'll teach me to read more closely!

[Q] Got my GNote, now what?

Perhaps we should create a sticky regarding typical first steps most users might want to take?
Such as APN settiings, rooting, what NOT to do, etc?
My Gnote is comnig in the am. what are the first few things new GNote owners want to do? Maybe we could create a list, and if so, would it be the same as the SGS2?
Thanks,

Man, that sucks. I've been waiting for this phone to come out for a while. Was hoping for it to work on tmobile. Hopefully samsung will come out with a version that can support tmobile 4g.
I've seen nothing to suggest they will release to the US market at all, and several things which say they won't. I wouldn't hold my breath on this one.

Will this VERSION work (SHV-E330L)

Hi there,
my friend is coming from Korea soon, and I have a chance to get him to buy me an "UNLOCKED Samsung Galaxy S4 SHV-E330L" which is the Korean version with LTE-A and a better processor (snapdragon 800)
I have a few questions:
#1) Will this version work fine in Canada without problems? I understand we don't have LTE-A but it will just revert to 4G, right?
#2) I don't see a lot of support for that version. If I got it, will I still be able to customize it, flash the rom, and use files from this website?
what should I do? should I better off stick with a local version?
I just think the Korean version has a better processor, and I can get it for a good price + it comes with an extra battery...
advice!?!?!?!?!?!?
or I might just wait to hear what the Nexus 5 will be, it could be a galaxy killer

He means you should be asking in the Q&A section since you have a question.
If it has a radio compatible with whatever frequencies your carrier uses, then it should work service wise. Check the Wikipedia article about the S4 and compare. As far as ROM's, since it technically has different hardware I'd say there's pretty good doubt it would work with these ROM's and certainly no guarantee that root and recovery made for others will work on your model.

Unlocked with GSM + LTE!

Hi everyone, I use an unlocked Sprint Note 4 with Cricket/at&t. I understood that by unlocking that I would only ever achieve HSPA+ speeds because Sprint locks the LTE band's available. I accepted that, as it didn't bother me and I mainly use Wifi, but that didn't stop me from trying.
All my attempts never seemed to make a difference, until the other week, I finally realized that LTE must not be available at my home. Because while I was driving I noticed I had a LTE signal, which was a complete shock to me. So I did some testing and I only received HSPA at home with all my phones.
Conclusion:
So that means one of the steps I did must have activated LTE. I do have to force it to connect sometimes with phone info shortcut. Or at&t is broadcasting on one of sprints bands in that area.
If anyone is interested in this, I do believe I know the exact steps to replicate this. If this shows interest, I will turn this post into a guide. This would be my first guide, so bear with me.
Edit: After further testing, I'm concluding that I'm only getting Lte in certain area, so it must be that at&t is using one of the Sprint bands there. If something changes, I'll update!
Edit 12/11/16 - only getting lte at certain place. It's band 2. Added pic below.
Pics below show Lte. You can see from crickets website that 4g is only 4mbps and Lte is 8mbps.

I would be more than interested in knowing how you unlocked the LTE Bands because (you must be aware through my previous posts) I too use unlocked N910P with a GSM SIM but all I get is H+.
I did try to unlock the LTE bands using a thread on XDA but it did not work as the tool wasn't even able to recognize the phone.
Hence, a step-by-step guide would be appreciated regarding the same.

I'm not sure if I unlocked them or not.
This just all became aware to me that i have lte. So I'm still testing. It seems like I'm only getting lte in one certain area. I don't know if maybe at&t is using a sprint band in that area. And that's what is making it possible.
I also don't know if anyone one thing i did made this possible. I will edit my post with all my changes. And you can test to see if it changes anything for you. Give me a bit.

I'm also on a domestic unlocked 910p with cricket, and have noticed LTE popping up from time to time. It's not consistent though. I just assumed it was because I hadn't changed my network mode to GSM/UTMS. I was driving at the time so I couldn't check to see if it was actually working.

Im also interested, I'm using AT&T towers as well through straight talk... but ive only ever been able to get 3g. But more so than not lately, unfortunately, ive been getting stuck with GSM service, not even 3g.. So if you figure something out that'd b great , otherwise any tips to improve my speed capabilities would b much appreciated. . And just 2-3 miles away is an AT&T tower so i should be capable of much more.

I'm just gonna list some of the newer ones that are still being developed. But there are also more stable builds out there but they're no longer being improved upon. = final build. (Ex. Any of @tx_dbs_tx older roms are very stable= MOAR rom, Note 5 rom, Mr Wonderful)
Back to current ones,
If you want a very customizable rom then Dtux Rom here is great. I use it myself when I'm not testing another. Plus Dev is getting ready to put out v7 very soon.
Then there's new CM14 here. Still getting all the bugs out but is very stable enough for daily driver. If you want Nouget then it's only option right now. Or if you want a minimal aosp rom, then it's the way to go.
Then a lot of people like trying the Note 7 ports, specifically one of these here. But it requires some work to get service working. Personally I'd wait til @tx_dbs_tx releases his Note 7 port. Won't be long, i hope. But it'll be tailored for our device.
There you go, that's my personal opinion through experience. It just depends on what you looking for. But all of them are stable. Good luck!
Edit. I just re-read your question. If your looking for a stockish rom. I'd suggest Mr Wonderful here! http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-sprint/development/rom-t3396498

Anyone using N9005 on T-mobile US?

I have an N900T that I'm using with t-mobile in the US. Now I also have an N9005 that I got when I thought I lost my phone. I'm trying to figure out which to use and which to get rid of. I'm fairly happy with my N900t except for the fact that on all the MM+ ROMs my GPS doesn't lock, so I have to use lollipop.
With the N9005 I could use the newer ROMs, and hopefully have GPS working, but I won't have LTE in the US. So my question is, is anyone using N9005 on t-mobile in the US? How is the speed, especially as you travel around. In my area, LTE is faster than 4G/H+, but 4G/H+ is still fast enough - 3Mbps. But I heard that t-mobile is getting rid of hspa+ in some areas, or maybe already did... How fast is the N9005 in the US?
Thanks!

Thank you very much for your answer. In this thread I'm not asking about Phronesis or GPS (I did that, for example, here.) And I did
read all the MM+ threads up and down to try to find anyone who gets a GPS lock with N900T. But, I might have missed
something, so any new info is great. Thanks.
But here I'm simply asking if anyone is using N9005 on T-mobile in the US, and what their experience is.
