Stock Android does not support WiFi direct. It uses bluetooth to transfer. I would try the Superbeam app (You have to install it on both phones). Are your other phones working on the 5GHz WiFi band? If so, what channel is your router broadcasting at? Some people have issues with the Nexus 4 not connecting to bands 12 and 13 (if my memory is correct), but not all (My 211k Nexus is fine). Are you running stock? If not, what ROM and kernel are you running? Have you tried to disable WiFi optimization (Settings>WiFi>Menu button>Advanced>WiFi Optimization)?

Ok the wifi direct thing got sorted out...The wifi is also working BUT..BUT....the downloading speed is still too damn LOW!.. I dont understand is a hardware issue?? Or a software issue from google?..

I recently moved to another location and found out Nexus having hard time to connect to Google through Wifi(grey wifi bar appears often). Surfing internet is also dramatically slower than before. I do not know if it is Google I/O related issue (namely software issue) or router (namely hardware issue)?
All my PCs and another Samsung Android phone work fine with the new router. What's happening?

[Q] Wifi Issues?

After reading a bit it's seems to be a common issue on ICS and later. My device occasionally looses it's wifi connection, at which point I have to go to settings and turn the wifi off and on. Is there a better solution to this problem? My router is using WPA2-PSK and is on channel 7.
Wifi seems to stay on fine here, but I cannot connect to 5ghz, only 2.4ghz. Not sure if this is an issue or if the Wifi chip only supports 2.4 ghz.

it doesnt connect to 5ghz, unless theres a trick to it??? but use wifi analyzer and look for the strongest channel on ur wifi router to fix ur problem
Turn off multimedia support on your router if all else fails

Yea I'm having trouble as well. I have a telus smart hub at home and it is super slow. Then when I use my hotspot on my Gnex from rogers, it runs fine, although this app takes awhile to load.
Tried playing with the settings, only think I couldn't find was the 5ghz and 2ghz.
Try some more playing tomorrow and look for different routers

Can I ask someone with nexus 7 to check if it connects with wifi AD-HOC network without problems?
I use my old LG gt540 as a 3g modem + wifi router, but it works only with ad-hoc. For example my HTC Sensation can't connect to such a network.
edit: NO, it does not connect with AD-HOC

[Q] Nexus 4 Wi-Fi issues.

First - Hi all, long time reader but this is the first time I've needed to start a thread - so sorry about my first post being a problem/Q!
I've not had my Nexus 4 long, but have got some pretty annoying Wi-Fi issues. I've searched for answers but it seems that people have different Wi-Fi problems and I just wanted to see whether my issue was a common one and, if so, is there a fix on the horizon?
My issue is that I can connect to some routers but not to others (work, home, most open networks)... when I connect it simply says "saved, secured with WPA/WPA2" but wont then connect.
Phones running stock 4.2.1 with franco kernel r28 and the things I have tried are:
Resetting routers
Assigning static IP address
Wi-Fi direct from my Nexus 7
Cleared cache from recovery
changed the Wi-Fi band from 'Auto' to 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz
Flashed new kernel
Very frustrating and because of my signal the lack of Wi-Fi has made me go back to my old phone while I wait for a fix... which connects perfectly to the networks (S3 running CM 10.1)
Is this a 4.2.1 issue - as seems to be the consensus with other Wi-Fi issues or possibly a hardware issue?
Thanks for any info!
There's one fix you've not tried which might work for you (it didn't for me). You would have to be rooted though, which is going to system/etc/dhcpcd and changing the permission on dhcpcd-run-hooks to read and execute from "others". This help some people out but turns out for me that my router isn't compatible with my phone. (DSL-2780).
I've noticed that some of the mobile devices(eg iPhone 3gs, SGS2) are quite sensitive to wireless channel which your router/ap broadcast on.
Try manually switch to channel 6 or 8 that solved my issue - I don't believe in incompatible routers usually problems are related to config.
It is more complicated with an access to the public WiFi as you can not modify the setup.

Just to update.
I've now tried this and still can't connect to the affected Wi-Fi networks, probably going to have to wait for 4.2.2 to see if that fixes it...
I had troubles connecting to my wifi network here in my house, which worked pretty good with my galaxy nexus, what i did and worked was deactivating the option "avoid poor connections" in wifi advanced settings, you should give this a try

I too have wifi issues with my N4. We have several phones at home - an HTC Aria and believe it or not the SGS1, SGS2 and SGS3!
All of them connect with no problems. My brand new N4 will see the router but refuses to connect until I toggle wifi on/of serveral times in succession, sometimes 6-8 times!
I have avoid poor wifi disabled but it does not help
I really hope El Goog fixes this asap as it is very frustrating.
I've had this issue forever. Android phones hate low or overcrowded signal. Though my nexus 7 always works fine. Makes me think it is the lack of WiFi antenna strength

[Q] help wifi won't connect after upgrading to 4.3

Hello,
I'm hoping someone can suggest a fix, yesterday I upgraded to 4.3 using adb. I'm fully stock not rooted. today for some reason it won't connect to my home network. It's a cisco e2500 router and its on the 5ghz band. I tried setting different channels, turned off optimization....
what gives???

Seems like there is an issue with your router. Did you change anything recently in the router setting? Try restarting the router.

I had immediate problems with Wi-Fi after updating as well, I don't know what the new radio features but it turned out that a firmware update to my router had everything running smooth as butter again, actually better (a lot more reliable–YouTube app actually appears to buffer noticeably less and not break up, for example, downloads also initiate and complete more solidly) than it was under 4.2.2

I'm using an Asus AC66U at home and N66U at my office with no 5ghz connectivity issues.
Here's some things that might help you troubleshoot. Start by disabling the "avoid poor connections" feature in WiFi options. Install inssider or similar WiFi scanner to see if there is interference for your specific router config. Try removing the WiFi connection from your phone and reconfiguring.

Hi,
It's strange I have a similar problem. After upgrading to 4.3 my 5ghz connection came to a crawl. We are talking about 1.2-1.6 Mbps. But the 2.4 ghz was fine (35 Mpbs). Once I downgraded, re-writing the "radio" file, then the 5ghz connect was blazing fast again (50 Mbps). I'm convinced this has to do with the "radio" update, but I'm not sure what exactly.
Any suggestions? Currently I'm back on 4.2.2 as wifi speeds (PA rom) make more sense right now.
Thanks in advance!

I tried all of the above, every combination, reset my router, there are no other 5ghz overlapping networks, at this point it is something to do with my install. I wonder if a factory wipe would help...
That's my exact setup (E2500' did you set the Wi-Fi frequency band to 5GHz only on the N4 and give the band a different SSID from the 2.4 GHz network?)! Try forgetting the current connection and setting it up again.

If it were the radio software specifically, then logically 5ghz would be broken for everybody, which is not the case. Perhaps the issue is device data specific... There has to be a better solution than staying on 4.2.2.

I have with wifi problems too, but with 4.3 and 4.2.2 version. At home everything works fine, but at work phone connect to router, but no Internet (internet work only 1-2s). Other devises with this router works fine!
I have even a different issue. The phone is stuck at Obtaining IP Adress every time now. I downgraded to 4.2.2 and it's still doing the same thing. It does work if connected to a different router, but not to my main one. I haven't changed any router settings either.

5 ghz WiFi no Longer works 4.3?

I just setup a 5.0 ghz wifi router today. My nexus 4 doesn't seem to be able to connect to it now that I am running 4.3. I can see the ssid. I type in my password WPA2 and it reports saved under the network ssid. However no matter how many times I tap it, it never actually connects. I tried everything from restarting to flashing 4.3 again. Nothing helps.
I read several threads and reports about people experiencing slow speeds on 5 ghz after the 4.3 update but no one seems to mention not being able to connect at all. Some posts suggested that it works for them if they remove their router's password but I don't want to do that. I'm wondering if anyone has been able to use WPA2 and be on 4.3 successfully.
It's not a network or router issue. The router works perfectly with every other 5 ghz device that I have.
try changing the channel on the 5Ghz network, as some phones/tablets are quite fussy about what channel they work on!

This just started happening to me as well. I was away from my normal WiFi networks for a couple weeks and also updated to 4.3 and had to reboot the phone once or twice. Now I can't connect to any 5 GHz networks. I've tried 3 different networks that were all set up on my phone previously. I've tried "forgetting" them, turning off WiFi and then turning it back on, rebooting the phone, no difference.
On some networks, my phone doesn't see the 5 GHz band at all and on others it shows up until I try to connect; then it disappears.
Android 4.3 just seems to be another piss-poor update in a tremendous string of crappy software "upgrades" for me: Win8, Intel Centrino 6235, Google Maps, Hangouts. Quite the string of bad luck. It's like the world is telling me I need to buy Apple...
Drop the channel down to 36. All shall work then. This issue is in the note 2 and note 8

Same boat. Tried low and high channels. It does see it. CM10.2.
In my case I do not see 5 ghz network at all. I set it to be on chanell 44 (20 Mhz), no security - still the same issue.
Also I realized, that even if in Wifi Advanced setting I set "5 ghz only" I still see 2.4 chanells.
I am running latest stock 4.3, no root.
4.2.2 same config worked ok.

Interesting - as I am still get 2.4 AP's. I used a factory default images for JWR66Y to un-root and get full stock (only bootloader remains unlocked).
And even with full stock , un-rooted I got the same problem. I was using Purity ROM with Franco kernel before that - with the same problem.

I did some more tests, and I found that immediate after reboot, I can see my 5Ghz network AP, even connect to it.
However, after few hours it was inaccessible. Also, nerveless what I do, if I select to use only 5Ghz band I still see 2.4Ghz AP's. No idea why.
Both my N4 and my N7 (2013) won't connect to my router when it is using WPA encryption. My N10 is fine though. I have had to lower encryption on one frequency band to WEP - which I'd rather not do, but it is the only way I could get it to connect.
It seems sensitive to brands of router, as both devices connect to my work network fine and that also uses WPA encryption.
My home router is a TP-Link Archer C7.

Hi,
I have this issue logged with Google at the moment regarding the 5Ghz issue. They are fully aware of it and say numerous customers have been affected - their original solution to me was to downgrade to 4.2 and lose my warranty. When I said won't do that they offered RMA which 2 weeks later I'm still waiting for them to sort.
According to Google just because other devices work on 5Ghz doesn't mean the Nexus 4 will, so I can't how they can sell it stating it works with 5Ghz when it doesn't.
Also have post here
update: received my replacement phone on 21/09/13 and this is running 4.2.2 and connects to my 5Ghz without any issues - done a side-by-side video of the faulty phone running 4.3.3 and sent this to Google - I have told them it was working fine before update

Wifi not working correctly

Hello people of XDA!
I had my note 3 runnning on CM11, suddenly it wouldnt connect to my router 5ghz network anymore but it did fine on the 2.4GHZ i tought it was a CM11 bug so i restored back to TW now i can connect to the network but my Download speed is really slow (about 1-2 mbps compared to my laptop wich speedtests at 50 Mbps running the same wifi)
The question is: is my note broken (again) or what should i do ?
Great now i cant even connect to the 5GHZ network, if somone kind would help me i would be thankfull!
(You havent changed any settings in your router lately ? )
You tried rebooting ?
If wifi isnt working at all one of your last chances might be a backup + wipe system/clean flash of current ROM.
Use wifi anyalyzer on the play store, and see what channels other routers are using, if they are on the same as yours and there is an empty spot somewhere, try changing your routers channel to a free one.
I have had many issues in the past due to this, damn neighbours! Haha
This may not even help, worth a try.

Well im the only 5ghz network here nearby according to Wifi analyzer, strangely i can connect to the 5GHZ via wifi analyzer but after i exit the app it disconnects... Weird...
Could be the location settings under Google settings, caused me problems with glitchy internet in the past. Switched it to gps only one time and after that to desired setting and it solved the issue for me.
Hope it helps.
