I haven't return anything big item (like the xoom) before, and I was just wondering if there's any instances that they refused to take a return for any reason or another?
Do they check/test/etc. the device before giving you a full refund?
While I'm pretty happy with the device, the screen always bothers me. I'm thinking if the Asus transfomer can match the built quality of the xoom, then I'm returning mine to get it. This is if my assumption is correct that the IPS screen on the transformer will be better than the xoom.
Thanks.
costco is that smart or resourceful to test the devices before accepting returns. Sounds like they just want to be tools.

Costco has a full unlimited return policy for any reason. They have a 90 day unlimited return policy for all electrics. It doesn't mater your reason. I have heard people say "well you have a newer model".

While it's certainly possible to abuse Costco's generous return policy, I'll answer the original question: they're great about it. Of course, they expect all shipped items and such to be returned, but they won't question the reasons nor deny a return. It's one of the reason why I buy all of my electronics from them.
Thanks everyone for the replies.

Quite honestly your uncle sounds like someone that will eventually ruin return policies like this for us all.
Regardless, to stay on topic, I second everyone else with the fact that they really will take items back for any reason. I believe they used to have a "return at any time for a full refund" policy (except PCs, which were 180 days), but they had to change it back around 2007 or so. The current policy is still fantastic.

True but he could return the Xoom to get the Asus Transformer, then return the Transformer to get the SGT 10.1 down the road. Of course, this is based on if Costco carries the Transformer & SGT 10.1.
That is my plan. I'll find out if the Android Tablet gods love me or not.

Seriously, the computer system they use is from 1983. I don't think Costco can track anything but dollar amounts.
I once had to get a refund on a cart worth of items because I used the wrong card (or so I thought, the receipt only shows the last few numbers of the card, and every Amex ends in the same numbers...). I waited for 30 minutes as a lady keyed in every item by hand.

Contrary to what some are suggesting, Costco DOES keep track of items. In the past my father purchased a VCR, but we ended up returning it because it ate tapes virtually from the start.
Our problem was that we couldn't find the receipt. They were able to look up the purchase using the Costco card number, and printed off a new receipt to include with their paperwork.

How do i trade my unrooted mytouch 4g with tmobile for a Nexus S? do i have to pay to do it ? how can i do it without paying and what are some good reasons to do it?
The only way they trade is if you've had multiple defective devices. Even then it's rare you'll get a decent phone, although you could go to retention and say your going to cancel if you don't get a decent phone.. But I mist ask why would you want to switch from the MT4G to the Nexus S? it's so much better
the buttons on the mytouch4g dont work sometimes, the trackpad doesnt click, i also got the bad screen
Last time I tried to exchange my MT4G they offered me a Vibrant S 3G because they were out of stock. I highly doubt they would give you a Nexus S in exchange. They usually downgrade in that situation. (I personally think you should be upgraded if they run out of stock)
the only thing the vibrant has over the MT4G is the screen.. im not gonna give up all of the nice hardware in the MT4G for a screen lol im gonna see if i can get the nexus s tomorrow though im gonna call tmobile
I doubt you could ever trade for a Nexus S from T-Mobile since they do not sell the phone directly. Afaik it is only available on the T-Mobile network through Best Buy.
So how would i get the nexus s?
You won't be able to do it through T-Mobile. T-Mobile doesn't sell the Nexus S. Even if they did, I can't even fathom a circumstance where they would "trade". Your only option will be to sell you MT4G on Craigslist and use that money to buy a Nexus S on Craigslist. The only way you'll get upgrade pricing on the Nexus S is if you are eligible to renew and you do it through Best Buy.
Could always use best buy trade in. You wont get the cash you want, but it'll help you buy your nexus s outright since you can't upgrade.

You will not be able to call up t-Mobile and exchange the phone.
1) T-Mobile doesn't sell the Nexus S phone. Best Buy has exclusive rights to it.
2) T-Mobile will not simply allow you to trade in phones for another phone.
3) You have to have a legitimate reason to file a warranty claim on your phone. At that point you will only get a MyTouch 4G replacement. If that should happen a few times they will offer you a "like deceive" which in this case will be the Samsung Galaxy S model. Not the Nexus S you are looking for. And each warranty replacement will cost you ~ 130.00. So you are looking @ 360.00 just in warranty fees.
Just sell your device on Craigslist or eBay then buy your Nexus S. That is the only way besides buying the device outright for full price.
You can call T-mobile Executive Customer Care and leave a message. A T-mobile exec customer care agent will return your call within two weeks to attempt to resolve the problem (give a free phone without contract extension). However this will only work if you've done multiple handset exchanges for the same phone model. I exchanged a Motorola Defy 4 times due to a variety of problems and Executive Customer Care called me and basically asked me how I would like them to resolve this issue and I told them I want a better phone. And they asked me which one and I told them a Mytouch 4g (the newest phone they had at the time) and they said no problem and sent it out the next day. Hope it helps.
Ok, So I am incredibly unsatisfied with Sprint's service as of late. I purchased the Epic 4g Touch and experienced the dreaded "Loss Of Service" bug frequently. I was within my 14 day return limit so I went into the Visalia California Sprint Store to swap out for a different model (namely the Evo 3d which I traded in for the e4gt). I also signed 5 of my friends up with sprint as well and 2 of them got the e4gt and had the same exact issues. They convinced me to try a replacement and assured me that if it still experienced that bug I could return it within 14 days of receiving the replacement phone. The replacement phone was worse than the one I had originally and lost service every hour. I missed several calls from work leaving my employer under the impression I was angry and ignoring her and almost cost me my job. So I went in to the Visalia California store yet again to get a replacement model. I spoke with the same woman that convinced me to get the replacement model (She was also the manager) and she stated that the device was out of its 14 days since the FIRST device and that I couldn't get a different model (see what she did there?). So I went home and called Sprint off of another line and spent 4 hours total on hold. I hung up and called Sprint tech support and after running tests and walking me through updates and such the rep spoke with a manager on his end and concluded that I needed a different model of phone. He stated that he would note that down in the ticket and to go into the Visalia California store and they would give me a different model. So I went in to the store and spoke with the manager yet again. This time after reading the ticket she became rude and uncivil stating that the ticket says "customer needs to try a different model of phone" and that they didn't have to provide it for me and that even if it did, corporate cannot make them give me a different model. The whole time I was civil and polite but my frustration was building. I drove an hour to the Sprint store in Fresno only to find out that Visalia had to handle my case and that they could not even replace it with the same model. So I found a man on craigslist and traded it for a Nexus S 4g. I plan on paying out my contract asap and switching to Verizon. They know how to treat a customer.
/End rant/
I might be wrong, but i'm pretty sure since you live in the state of California you have up to 30-days to return a device and not 14 like other states.
i was told 14.

*nevermind*
read your local laws, scan or photo them, and send them to sprint. I have been a customer since 1999 and they would NEVER pull this poo with me. I threaten them every time I am on the phone, you'll get what you want, ask for the account retention department...
Wait what the hell? Verizon and AT&T both limit your data now? WTF I cant do that God they are sooo lucky I need a phone. So I get a choice between sh*tty customer service and sh*tty cellphone service... I can't live in this world anymore

sprint is fine, i work for them, it's just you always get the a**holes at some sprint stores, i would never treat a customer like that, let alone lead them in the wrong direction just for a commissioned pay, that's probably why that manager did that, but anywho, don't be mad at sprint, i'm sure you experience will get better with them, my parents have been with them for 15 years+ and never had an issue, and i've been with them for about 5 or 6 under my parents account, they have good service, just right now it's kinda hard keeping everyone happy while doing a MASSIVE network upgrade, but some people are impatient, but trust me sprint is the way to go
P.S. from reading your post, the initial issue does sound like it was the phone itself, you should have gotten something else, and don't bother with the 3d unless you can return it, i'm using it now, low signal strength, i would recommend the Photon (also own) the signal strength and radios in that phone are the strongest i've ever seen in any phone out there

^^ this. For a phone that costs $700, I'd think anything that looks like it shouldn't be there warrants a replacement.
Take that ish back!
Well I've called up my service provider and they've agreed to replace it with another new one - only problem is that they aren't getting another batch in for 2 weeks new one won't arrive til 27th June...
I can still keep this one til then, but it means I have to baby it/not take it out for fear of dropping it/not root it, basically treat it as a loaner.
I'm half tempted to say f*ck it, I'll just keep it - but you're all right, this is an expensive machine, I don't want a faulty paint job! Who's to say it won't get worse as well, since it's a prob with manufacturing process.

I'd recommend that you tell them your situation that you'll keep it till the new stock arrives and they ship it to you. True, but do you honestly think they are going to open every box and inspect for bad craftsmanship? If they were part of the assembly process then sure, but they merely order en mass and then either drop ship to their customers or reship from their warehouse.
I think the OP is doing the right and ethical thing by not blowing this out of proportion. To many people these days try and milk every little "mistake" that cross their path. But to each their own, the important thing is that he is getting a replacement with no down time and a few bucks for his troubles.

Think it has something to do with Apple, whether they want to admit it or not. Had a black version been available, I'd have gotten that one, but I've settled with the white version for now(was going for the blue version, but after seeing it in person I'm glad I went with white when the former was delayed).
It'll probably not be that long lived if the Note 2 gets released in October.
So basically I'm due for an upgrade and planning to get the S5 when it comes out in april.

I have an S4 btw so if I feel it's almost the same as the S5 I will exchange it for another phone.
All I really need is 1-2 days to decide if a phone is right for me

With AT&T return within 14 days if you don't like the phone their is a restocking fee don't know how much the fee is. If your going to exchange it for a different phone it's pretty easy depending on the store but their will be a restocking fee and new phone activation fee again. As far as Amazon you would need to log into your account then email the vendor and see what the return policy is or if they even have one on electronics/cell phones.
Good luck.
